@cooooooks my broda, its not about been constitutionally or not...how many people still abide by constitution 2day? Constitutionally, groom and family handle list while bride and family handle feeding and decoration....are u not seeing grooms been told now that, feeding and decoration is still on them despite the long lists( that in some places, still contain items for such feeding and decorations)?

Please fellow NL family, gdmonin, my friend....a highly industrious, detail-oriented and result-focussed B.Sc holder first son of his aged parents & 9 siblings, needs ur help. He lost his job in march without pay and mysteriously went wretched with no 1 kobo to his name again( which made the bride2be dump him and calloff the wedding). He is now very depressed after roaming abuja since june to no avail. He even attempted suicide yesterday(thank GOD i came back early b4 life would go out of him). It still amazes me how these parents and relatives set such a high bride price.

I can never forget the day we escorted a friend to traditional wedding and the kinsmen turned us back because we missed a few items in the list. All the plea by the parents were on deaf ears as the greedy kinsmen stood their ground.

Na correct guy. The kinsmen are not to be blamed but the hopeless lady and her family. Whose day was destroyed and would be gossiped 4eva......her day and their daughter/sister day(not any kinsmen daughters day). I have seen where bride and family fought kinsmen(not physically) when they are standing their grounds on their greed-ladden exploiting list not minding the in-laws might vex and go.

Omo am learning here oo. But why is it hypocritically like this....very meager bride price(except some parts of imo & abia so far) but neck-cutting non-refundable bride list?

Pls my fellow NL family, why is it that these days we are following suit in doing things haywire. Ideally in ancient days, the brides family on their own decorates their compound and cooks food for their guests(which includes their own guests, grooms family n guests) out of joy for answered prayer for marriage by the gods. But these days, 98% of brides family enforce both decoration, feasting on the groom &family, who are already exploited with outrageous list.

The only physical solution is legally getting a good job that would pay him well since his date is few weeks time....he still needs a good paying job to take care of himself and his huge responsibilities as firstson to his aged parents and siblings, should he dump the lady and move on. 2. His parents, some relations and friends frowns at the idea of he backing out because he has done everything in the list(which are considered a gift in igboland customs and are non-refundable by custom except bride price) and he is yet to pay that on the D-DAY so if he backs out, he would lose all he spent on that list(because they are considered gifts in igboland). so you see he is between the devil(mysteriously incapacited to pay bride price and do ceremony) and deep blue sea (brides red flag behaviours that r about costing him his all his expenses so far)

why should i publish the list of a community for you online? If u are from there, you either confirm if its in the normal range of ur people or if exaggerated by bride family & kinsmen to exploit the groom(and the implication). I believe that is the main underlying purpose of this thread
