Nairaland / General / Adeyemi, Ede North Caretaker Chairman Begins Rehabilitation Of Roads 5 Days Afte by CityMirrorNews1: 9:12pm On Jul 18, 2021
Hon Elliot Adeyemi, the caretaker Chairman of Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State, has began the rehabilitation of Isibo/Yidi road in Ede, barely five days after he was sworn in as Chairman.

CityMirrorNews reports that Adeyemi is among the 69 newly-appointed local government caretaker chairmen swore in by the Executive Governor of Osun, Gboyega Oyetola on Monday, July 12.

The local government chairman has, however, hit the ground running, by swinging into action, with the rehabilitation of the Isibo/Yidi road, which had been in a deplorable condition over the years.

Adeyemi who is a Christian, while speaking on the motive behind the road project said the Isibo/Yidi road is significant because it is the road that links the Ede metropolis to the town's Muslim prayer ground.

Adeyemi added the gesture was to complement the effort of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his bid to make life more comfortable for the residents of the state.

He further explained that the special attention given to the rehabilitation of the road was equally to enable residents and farmers transport their agriculture/farm produce to the town easily.

"During our swearing in ceremony, our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Gboyega Oyetola directed all the new Council heads to hit the ground running and ensure that they deliver urgently, the dividends of democracy to the teeming citizens as part of efforts to permanently register the name of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the hearts of the citizens and leave an indelible footprint in the sand of time.

"I see this as a challenge, and when I resumed office the following day, I identified the Isibo/Yidi road that needed attention and urgent rehabilitation (with stonebase) because it's a road that link the Ede township to the Muslims' prayer ground.

"Grading this road will also help give people living in the areas, a sense of belonging, so that they will not think that the local government has abandoned them.

"Before now, the road was in a deplorable state, as commercial and private vehicles found it very difficult to ply, but with the current grading, vehicular movement have become faster and smoother." he said

He therefore urged the people of the council area to continue to support administration of Governor Oyetola and ensure his victory in the coming election saying Governor Oyetola really meant well for the people of Ede and that's why he has been ensuring the people of the town enjoy dividend of democracy.

One of the residents, Alhaji Jimoh Alaba appreciated the Chairman, saying the gesture would aid easy movement of Muslims during the Eid-el-Kabir prayer.

Alhaji Alaba who said he was surprised by the reason for the rehabilitation of the road by Hon Elliot, who is a Christian, said his action, would further strengthen the peaceful religious co-existence among the residents of the council.

He said the Chairman and the governor deserve special prayer during the festive period just as he prayed for them to continue to excel in their dealings.

"In one of our several visits and meetings Chairman of our party, Prince Gboyega Famoodun and party leader from Boluwaduro Local Government, he promised us that he would do something about the negative reports and the proposed intention of the party in retaining the immediate local government functionaries in request having their former positions. Sir, we are highly disappointed that despite this promise the state party chairman did not invite us for a meeting nor fulfil his promise. "

They alleged that the past executives refused to organised meetings for party members all through their tenure which they claimed is detrimental to the progress of the party and took lots of steps against the demands of the communities in the Boluwaduro local government area.

Akeem Tokede that was announced for Otan Ayegbaju of Boluwaduro Local Government.

"That the processes implored are very undemocratic, unrepresented and unfair.

"That for about four years he earlier spent he did not allow or organize any party meeting at the local level, which has seriously destroyed the party.

"That the party under his watch as the council chairman did not enjoy any deference of democracy for throughout his double tenures and the appointment derogates other aspirants who have not served before but have better credentials as if he is the best or only available person suitable for the job.

"That his reappointment has further divided the party. Re-motivated party members and has made the job of memberszing member more difficult.

Nairaland / General / Osun 2022: Ede South APC Chieftain, Zobo Rallies Support For Oyetola, Tasks Resi by CityMirrorNews1: 1:16pm On Jul 02, 2021
Osun 2022: Ede South APC Chieftain, Zobo Rallies Support For Oyetola, Tasks Residents On INEC’s CVR

A popular political mobiliser in Ede, Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State, Alhaji Raji Taoheed, popularly called Zobo, has urged eligible residents in the town to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for them to participate in the 2022 and 2023 elections in the state.

Zobo, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said the only way for the people of Ede to appreciate the Governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola for the developmental projects he had done in the town was for them to cast their votes for him in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, saying the only weapon they could use was their Voters cards.

Alhaji Zobo who was a very strong member of PDP in Ede South until his defection, alongside scores of his supporters, had boasted to deliver more than 5, 000 votes for APC in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing hundreds of his supporters in Ede, on Friday, Alhaji Zobo also charged the youths on the need to participate actively in politics in their respective communities.

He noted that the youthful population when deployed rightly can influence the outcome of the 2022 governorship poll in the state.

Alhaji Zobo added that the achievements of the Governor Oyetola would be properly sustained if the ruling APC retained power after the election next year.

“INEC has commenced voters registration and I want us to go out there and register to have our PVCs and make the difference come 2022 and the 2023 general election.

"I have said it time without number that
Governor Gboyega Oyetola had performed excellently well in our town (Ede) especially in road construction, health, education, and human resource development, and has the support of the entire party members in the area.

"The only way to appreciate him is for each and everyone of us to come out en masses and cast our votes for him and this can only be done if we have our weapon, which is our PVCs.

“I restate our uncompromising, unalloyed, unwavering, unbridled and 100% loyalty to his administration and government. We, members of APC in Ede South local government are proud of all his achievements and happy to be associated with him.

“In tune with the sacrificial, selfless service and commitment of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to the growth and overall development of Osun State, with retrospect and benefit of foresight that he remains the best candidate, administrator and leader as we approach the 2022 gubernatorial election.”

Nairaland / General / Osun 2022: Oyetola's Aide, Aremo Charges Eligible Voters To Take Part In Inec’s by CityMirrorNews1: 2:54pm On Jul 01, 2021
The Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Youths and Sports, Hon Adegboyega Adelabu Aremo , has charged eligible voters in the state to avail themselves for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Aremo gave the charge while speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, Osun state capital, on Wednesday.

The SA commended the innovation of INEC, saying it will inspire citizens to register based on the introduction of pre-enrollment via INEC’s CVR online portal from June 28, 2021.

While emphasizing the need for eligible citizens to explore the registration opportunity, the Osogbo born politician said the exercise would allow more residents of the state, of voting age, to participate in the coming gubernatorial election and the general elections.

He said due to the tremendous performance of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, many eligible citizens of the state of voting age, who did not have the opportunity to vote during the last gubernatorial election, have been waiting for this opportunity to come so they can appreciate the governor with their votes .

“This will be the first time in Nigeria’s electoral process where citizens can commence their voter’s registration from their individual spaces of comfort.

"Citizens who complete their pre-enrollment in the online portal will choose an appointment date for their biometric physical capture, which will commence from 19 July 2021 at INEC offices in the States and Local Government Areas (LGAs).

“With the proposals for more technology to be deployed in Nigeria’s election, this CVR process presents an opportunity for the accurate capture of voters’ data and biometrics. It also creates an opportunity for more eligible voters to commence their registration with ease and hopefully reduce the pressure at the physical centers.

“Voters registration remains a critical exercise in the electoral process as it is the first determinant of who gets to vote in Nigeria.

"The exercise will give those people who wanted to appreciate Governor Gboyega Oyetola's tremendous performance through their votes opportunity to do so.

"Oyetola has achieved immensely and we need to appreciate him with our votes and the only way to achieve that is to take the advantage of the registration and ensure we come out en mass to caste our votes for hm comes 2022." he said.

Nairaland / General / OPC Commends Osun Governor, Oyetola, For His Commitment To Securing Lives, Prope by CityMirrorNews1: 10:55am On Jun 28, 2021
OPC Commends Osun governor, Oyetola, For His Commitment To Securing Lives, Property Of Residents

By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo

The Governor of Oodua Peoples' Congress (OPC), in Osun State, Comrade Taiwo Adebayo, popularly known as Aleeba , has commended Governor Gboyega Oyetola for his commitment to the security of lives and property of citizens of his state.

Adebayo praised the governor for his administration's timely support for security agencies in the state, especially, local security personnels.

The OPC governor, who belong to the Friedrick Fasheun’s faction, equally commended the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, for his security acumen.

He said the police boss had been collaborating with other security groups in the state and also been exploring every avenue to ensure people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.

Adebayo gave the commendations during his visitation to the state governor at the government house in Osogbo.

The OPC leader appreciated the governor for the recognition given to him and other people who joined him on the visit.

While fielding questions from journalists after his meeting with the governor, said the present administration's strong security architecture has engendered sustainable peace and stability in the state.

"The administration of Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has been commended for its strong security architecture, which has engendered sustainable peace and stability.

"Oyetola’s administration has done well in securing the lives and property of residents of the state with its decisive actions as regards the state security system, thus making Osun a peaceful state and suitable for habitation.

"As a matter of fact, Osun is relatively peaceful. We all know what's happening in other states, but the proactiveness of the Governor and swift response of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, whenever there is call for security matter, is what keeps the state safe and secured.

"I commend Governor Oyetola’s security policy ranging from the establishment of Amotekun Security Network to the establishment of Joint Task Force and recognition of local security personnels among other security frameworks which are instrumental to the peace and stability enjoyed in the state.

“It’s no gainsaying the fact that peoples' security is well guaranteed in Osun especially when considering the level of apprehension and fright enraging many parts of the country as occasioned by volatile atmosphere."

He urged residents of the state to be law abiding saying they should desist from any activities capable of causing crisis in the state.

He however, pledged the readiness of members of the Oodua People's Congress, Dr Fasheu led group, to continue to work in collaboration with the Police and other security agencies in securing lives and property of inhabitants of the state .

Nairaland / General / Osun 2022: Ogunbiyi Possesses Required Qualities To Lead PDP To Victory, Group by CityMirrorNews1: 11:03am On Jun 24, 2021
As activities lined up for the 2022 governorship election in Osun State continue to draw nearer, a socio- political group in the state has lent its voice to the raging battle for the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, declaring that Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi is eminently qualified and possesses the required qualities to lead the PDP to victory and transform the declining fortunes of the state.

The group, under the aegis of the Idera de Movement, IDM, stated this in a statement signed by Mr Kunle Omolere, IDM's Director of Strategy.

The release was made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday.

Describing the lawmaker as "an improvident personality and opportunist", the group declared that desperate attempts at blowing off Ogunbiyi's candle would not brighten Ademola Adeleke's chances .

The statement reads in part:

Our attention has been drawn to the spurious assertion of Mr Bamidele Salam regarding the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State and the aspiration of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi.

The self serving lawmaker remarked: 'I know Dr Akin Ogunbiyi very well; he is a brother that I respect so much, but you know that when we talk about politics, we talk about the name, influence, networking. Ogunbiyi is nowhere near the Adelekes. I give him due honour. He is a very good and capable man but he can also be very useful in other areas but certainly not as the governor this time around.'

While it is pretty normal for high-achievers like Dr Ogunbiyi to be misconstrued for various self-propelled reasons and hedonistic egotism, it is instructive to state that Bamidele Salam's latest spurious and highly objectionable claims on the governorship ambition of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi put a question mark on his sense of reasoning and integrity.

As a lawyer and once respected broadcaster, one would think that he knows and realises that a king is not who is not king of his time, the rich is not who lives on borrowed time. The poor is he who of himself is a zealot.

It is not surprising that the honourable member has continued to tow the path of dishonour in his desperation for a second term. We recall how he came begging to join the Ogunbiyi camp ahead of the 2018 primaries claiming that as a Christian, he could not subject himself to oath taking, a prominent activity of the Adelekes camp. After several emmisaries intervened on his behalf, he was accepted into the fold only to return to the Adelekes to take the same oath.

By now, he should have known that there is nothing momentous about an aspirant who has no distinguished virtues of his own. He doesn't need to be told that only the unreasonable would think that a 61 year old dependent individual and accidental diploma holder is better than a self-made, learned and renowned 57-year-old entrepreneur in the race for the exalted position of the governor of Osun State and her highly industrious people.

It is shameful and rather ridiculous seeing Bamidele and other supporters of the absentee aspirant banking on irrelevancies, guilt and manipulation to push his ambition instead of rolling out the unique selling points of the man, if he has any, apart from his good dancing steps.

In PDP, and against all odds, former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola emerged the governor of the state on his own honour. Why is Ademola's case so different and nothing else about him apart from belonging to the Adelekes counts? At what point was Bemidele's sanity and intelligence finally sacrificed for money and power?

PDP delegates and the general public have seen through and know the aspirant who will not make a good governor if given the chance. They know the aspirant with improbable academic record, character without character, the opportunist and accidental contender with no mind of his own.

That said, it is neither in the interests of our beloved state and the good people of Osun to continue to be ruled by undemocratic forces and fascists in power, nor is it in our shared interest to enthrone a mediocre in the exalted position of the state governor. Though not perfect, Dr. Ogunbiyi is better placed and, given his track record of service to humanity and growth, having stimulated several businesses from nothing to stardom, will make a good governor if saddled with the lofty responsibility.

Nairaland / General / Exposed: Segun Agbaje And His Sit-tight Syndrome In GTB, As CBN Keeps Mute by CityMirrorNews1: 9:13am On Jun 01, 2021
Exposed: Segun Agbaje and his sit-tight syndrome in GTB, as CBN keeps mute

...average of 25 staff quit on monthly basis, says official

Fresh revelations have emerged on how the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Mr Segun Agbaje, has continued to perpetuate himself in office after the expiration of his tenure according to the Central Bank of Nigeria Prudential Guidelines.

Investigation by this medium indicated that Agbaje became the Acting MD/CEO of GTB in April 2011, in which by the provision of CBN's prudential guidelines as reviewed in 2019, he ceases to be the helmsman of the bank by April 2021.

Schedule 4.01 of the CBN Guidelines for Tenure of Managing Directors of Deposit Money Banks and Related Matters under Corporate Governance, as reviewed in 2019 stipulates that:

"In order to ensure both continuity and injection of fresh ideas, tenures
shall apply to the positions of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Non-Executive Director (NED) and External Auditors. The following rules shall apply to the tenured positions:
(a) A CEO of a bank shall serve for a maximum tenure of 10 years.
(b) A NED shall not remain on the board of a bank continuously for
more than 3 terms of 4 years each, i.e. 12 years.
(c) The tenure of external auditors in a given bank shall be for a
maximum period of ten years from date of appointment after
which the audit firm shall not be reappointed in the bank until after
another 10 years.
(d) In determining the length of period service of a CEO, any period
served in acting capacity shall be deemed to have formed part
of the period of his/her service as the CEO.
(e) For all tenured positions affected by merger/acquisition/take-over
or any form of combination, the length of service shall include
both the periods served pre-and post the combination''.

It was further revealed that in his bid to unprecedentedly change the structure of the bank and destroy tenure arrangement to his advantage with impunity, Agbaje refused to appoint Deputy Managing Director after the last DMD left, against the tradition of hierarchy in every commercial bank, purposely to block the laid down process of succession, and arbitrarily restructure the pattern of arrangement in the bank to pave way for him in becoming the head of GTB Holdings with several MDs under him.

However, the CBN's prudential guidelines in schedule 4.02 under Cooling Off Period states that :

"Any person who has served as CEO in a bank shall not qualify for
appointment in that bank or its subsidiaries in any capacity until
after a period of 3 years after the expiration of his tenure as CEO.
If appointed, he/she shall only serve as a non-executive director.
(b) Where an executive director exits his/her position in the bank, such
a person shall not be eligible for appointment as a non-executive
director until after a period of three years.
(c) Banks shall reflect the provisions of these guidelines in the terms of
engagement of their CEOs, executive directors, NEDs and
external auditors''.

Meanwhile, Agbaje has been accused of different atrocities since his emergence as MD/CEO of the bank, ranging from staff redundancy, poor staff welfare, rigid policy, indiscriminate sack of qualified ED's among others.

A top official of the bank at its headquarters in Lagos, who craved anonymity said the tenure of Agbaje has been characterized with policies and gimmicks that are antithetical to bank corporate governance.

He added that an average of 25 staff resign from the bank on monthly basis, saying that the bank has lost almost a thousand of its staff in the last three years.

''It is disheartening that the CBN, which remains the only regulatory agency for commercial banks in Nigeria has been silent all this while despite the gross misconduct and great atrocities Mr Segun Agbaje has committed.

''How could someone be flouting guidelines of CBN in this manner and nobody is challenging him or calling him to order, the CBN has kept mute all this while thereby putting the bank at a great risk if something is not done fast as a matter of exigency'', the source exclaimed.
