Nairaland / General / Dele Adeleke Condemns Violence During PDP Delegate Congress, Condoles With Famil by CityMirrorNews1: 5:36pm On Feb 24, 2022
Dele Adeleke Condemns Violence During PDP Delegate Congress, Condoles With Families Of Dead Party Members

A Gubernatorial Aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Dele Adeleke has condemned in strong terms, the violence that riddled the Ad-Hoc Delegate Congress of the PDP in Osun State, held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. He also commiserated with the families of party members who lost their lives yesterday.

Speaking through a statement made available to the Press, Adeleke stated that “politics should never get to this barbaric and archaic point, where we intimidate, maim and even kill people to win election. The particular attribute that makes us higher than mere animals is our capacity to manage varied interests and conflict, without descending into lawlessness and barbarism.”

“The PDP, a party that prides itself on the ideals of people-oriented politics, should not be found having its internal issues end in violence and the unfortunate death of party members who only came out to express their free desires”.

He further stated that “the PDP is a political party that should set example of peaceful conduct and all well-meaning leaders must rise to condemn this act of thuggery, violence and inhumanity that some persons within the party, displayed yesterday.”

“We are well aware of the persons within the party who are trying hard to foist their desires on other members through any means possible. We know their antics and we can only remind them that only God has the capacity to enthrone and to dethrone. We were all alive in 2018 when despite at the precipice of victory, the PDP by a strange twist of fate, ended up losing the election. This reminds us that no matter what we do as individuals, the final verdict on our ambitions will still come from God.”

He concluded with a message of condolence to the family of the party members who lost their lives in Iwo during the congress. “I commiserate with the families of those young men who were killed in the course of the violence that erupted in Iwo, Ife, Ipetumodu and parts of Osogbo and I condemn these violent acts in very strong terms. Nobody has to die for anybody’s ambition. Nobody deserves to lose their lives for the actualization of another person’s desires. While I pray that God grants the families of those slain the fortitude to bear the loss, I also call on Law enforcement Agencies to expedite actions in bringing the perpetrators to book”, he said.

"Residents of the areas can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed at night nor able to go about their lawful businesses during the day-time as a result of these life-threatening incidences;

Nairaland / General / Tribal Marks On Male Children In Royal Families In Osogbo, Infringement On Huma by CityMirrorNews1: 10:13pm On Feb 20, 2022
Tribal Marks On Male Children In Royal Families In Osogbo, Infringement On Human Rights

Parents in Osun state, have frowned at the inscription of tribal marks on the faces of male children in some family houses especially the royal families in Osogbo, Capital of Osun State, describing it as archaic, and an infringement on their fundamental human rights.

Tribal marks are usually permanent on the faces of the bearer; it is a way of identification which has been passed down from family, community and royal lineage. It also functions to differentiate one ethnic group from another.

In Osogbo, the Osun state capital for instance, CityMirrorNews findings revealed that tribal marks is one of the criteria or condition which has been passed down from the ancient town and royal families of Oyipiloye, Matanmi, Sogbodede and Laarooye before anyone from the families could become a king.

Of which, it is not everyone that knows this as one of the things the kingmakers do look into consideration before a prince could become a traditional ruler of the town.

This norms of having tribal marks on the faces of male Children or princes to become a king in the encient town of Osogbo as one of the yardsticks are not known to many members of these aforementioned Royal families.

Our findings show that the kingmakers had made it a secret things because of the noises it might be generating puting into consideration the hazardous effects on the bearers.

As a matter of fact, the present Ataoja of Osogbo , Oba Jimoh Olanipekun bears tribal marks. His ancestors it was learnt also bore the tribal marks. Hence ,the reason for making it compulsory for all the male children in Royal families .

A source from one of the royal family in Osogbo who pleaded anonymity said he personally feel bad each time they are giving their children tribal marks saying it's crazy how those children cry not from just the pain their physical bodies feel, but from the mental scars and fugue nightmares they are about to get, and also the years of questioning the supposed wickedness of their parents who made such cruel choices for them.

The octogenarian made us to understand the fact that the Royal families in Osogbo, Oyipiloye , Matanmi, Sogbodede and Laarooye specialised in giving their male children tribal marks up till now because it's one of those things they do put into consideration before anybody could be made to ascend the throne of Ataoja of Osogbo land.

He said "this is a way of violating our male Children. It’s not just abuse, the psychological scars and identity crisis they occasion leads to a lifetime of unknown confidence issues, and possibly, anxiety.

"They are simply a contemporary blemish that our male Children will only grow to hate and it doesn’t require deep thought to understand why.

"They probably seized to be fashionable nearly 100 years ago when civilization became a Nigerian staple. What tribal marks are now is unnecessarily violation of children and an unnecessary abuse of the privilege of parenthood."

Mr John Ekun, a teacher at the Girls High School, Osogbo said that parents inscribed marks on their children during the pre-colonial era for easy identification, adding that tribal marks was used to identify an individual from a certain clan during the war.

Ekun stated that the marks made it easier for people to locate their homes, and communities after being taken away by the colonial masters.

"Those days, parents give tribal marks to their children at the age of nine or ten, and maybe at the age of 24 the person finds his way out of slavery, the only way he could find his way back then, was through the tribal mark.

"The tribal marks were given according to each person’s clan majorly in Kwara, Osun and Oyo states then.

"But we discovered that the issues that brought about tribal marks are no longer there, nobody is doing any slave trading again.

"No need to deface that your innocent child; and that issue also violates human rights, because the time these marks are given to the children, it is without their consent," he said.

According to him, people that their parents gave tribal marks in the olden days disliked it, but were left with little or nothing much to do.

Another person, Aresa Kehinde, a public servant with tribal marks on his face, said he did not inscribe marks on the faces of his children, adding that it would have amounted to inflicting pain on them.

“I was given tribal marks by my parents, and it was used to differentiate a particular tribe from another.

“As we continue to grow, things changed and tribal marks could be compared to the awkward way of circumcision in the olden days on the male children, but gone are those days.

“You as a parent will even pity the children you give birth to now, and for that you will be so careful not to use a razor or knife to make a mark on them.

“As a young boy, I felt the pain and it will not be right to do so to our children now,” Aresa said.

The method of making these marks is painful. They are made through scarification techniques. People who make these marks usually use razors or sharp objects to make them on children’s faces or other parts of their bodies. Then they rub native dye from charcoal marks to prevent the skin from closing up as the body tries to heal itself. The native dye also helps to stop bleeding.

Nowadays, tribal marks have become the dying lore of ancient days. Some young people who have it feel resentment towards their parents for giving them such scars.

There have been reports of many who resorted to plastic surgery to reduce the effect of the scars or obliterate them.

People have given so many reasons for the eradication of tribal marks in the encient town of Osogbo especially among these Royal families and by extension to some other part of the country and below are some:

[Bullying]

At a tender age, children are confused about so many things and among them is why someone has marks on their faces. We all have been there, giving people nicknames because of the tribal marks on their faces, it may be fun to you but to those involved, it is frustrating. This bullying does not end when they are young, it is a forever thing. The people they want to date often are not interested in dating people with tribal marks and so it continues. They keep suffering for a decision they did not make themselves.

[Risk of infection]

Children are prone to get infected easily. Having marks on their faces makes it easier. The use of unsterilized razors or sharp objects to make them on children’s faces or other parts of their bodies make them open to infections. People who pushed for the eradication of female genital mutilation also pushed for the eradication of tribal marks.

With the increase in the cases of HIV/AIDS and blood -related infections, it is becoming deadly to use sharp objects on people especially as such objects in rural and even urban societies can enhance further transmission of the diseases.

Also, the use of tribal marks as a means of identification and beautification among the Yoruba tribe is no longer a norm and some Yoruba states have enacted certain laws that prohibit the use of the marks.

Violators of the law are liable to fines or imprisonment (or both). In Oyo and Osun States, for example, the prohibition of tribal marks is an integral part of the states Child Rights Law, a law that imposes fine or one-month imprisonment or both for violation.

In these two states ,Osun and Oyo, the state government banned it but people are still doing it also like FGM is banned but peole are still doing it

According to the law “No person shall tattoo or make a skin mark or cause any tattoo or skin mark to be made on a child”.

Different stories have been told by many people with tribal marks and none have been fun so far.

Because of these aforementioned reasons our findings shown that many members of these Royal families in the encient town of Osogbo have to run on exile when it's almost the time for their wives to be put on bed. It is now rear to see any parents or family no matter how their traditions is to now make tribal marks on their children.

Even those that have the marks already, sees it as wrong thing being done by their parents or family are looking for a means of removing the marks but there is no way they can go about it.

Also, the intervention of the government to stop circumsition had added to it. Recall that the World Health Organization (WHO) and partners are harmonizing efforts by the Nigerian Government to put a stop to the medicalization of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) saying it is humiliating, excruciating, barbaric and actually poses serious health threats such as tetanus, excessive bleeding, urinary problems and in worst case scenarios, death. "We need to unite and speak in one voice to stop these barbaric acts."

It's quite unfortunate that the despite the ordeals bad experience of the people with tribal marks advocacy against the norm has not been extended to this barbaric act by both National and international non Governmental Organization.

Since the people with tribal marks could not have power to reject it when it was about to be done on their bodies because of their tender age, it was done on them without their own consent and giving them blemishes on their bodies, then, it should be considered as an act of infringing one's right.

There was a case of boy who hails from a royal family in Osogbo, Prince Adewale Motanmi by his name when he walked into the class, the first thing the children noticed was the tribal mark on his face. At first, they ignored him, but later, they asked if his dad has a dog that bit him.

He told them no, that it was just a tribal mark. They pretended they understood but subsequently, once they have any altercation with Prince Motanmi, it is easier to refer to his tribal marks, and he cried each time.

As they grew older, they understood better that Prince Motanmi had no choice but to live with those marks and they tried to be nicer. However, once in a while, they still wondered how someone would think those scars were beautiful.

As this culture persists among the royal families in Osogbo, many deemed it necessary to find their ways and decided to relocate from the family homes with a view to avoiding being circumstanced or getting their male children circumstanced.

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Babajide Omoworare said the outcome of the February 19th Primary election of APC Osun State is both an indication of the popularity of Governor Oyetola in the Party as well as the strength and indivisibility of APC in the State.

A non-governmental organization, Advocacy for Advancement of Peace & Harmony in Africa Initiative (ADAPHAI) has adjudged the All Progressives Congress' primary election of Saturday as peaceful and orderly.

ADAPHAI, an independent observer during the exercise asserted that the process was strictly in line with electoral guidelines and democratic ethos.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital, on Saturday evening, the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Sulaimon Suberu, averred that the process allowed every member of the party to exercise franchise in the atmosphere of peace.

''On the primary election of All Progressives Congress, APC, of today, the preponderant reports from the 332 wards monitored by our officials adjudged the process as peaceful and orderly.

"The pattern of conduct of the process was credible and in line with democratic ethos and electoral guidelines.

"The turnout of members of the party was massive and participation was active and encouraging, every member was given opportunities to exercise their franchise without any form of intimidation.

"All in all, the process of the APC Primary election in Osun State was free, fair and democratic, it is indeed a model for other states and other political parties", Suberu said.

The Peace Advocate however condemned the activities of some politicians in the state, in the count down to the Saturday's exercise, describing it as divisive and vindictive.

He also frowned at what he called a reckless display of power by a political appointee of the Federal Government from the State, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly call the individual to order to prevent further infraction.

Suberu, eulogized the peaceful nature of the Governor of the State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, noting that he has been very calm in the face of provocation.

According to him", We have been monitoring political events in Osun for many years with satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the inherent dynamics in it's polity.

"The recent political development in the state has put Osun on the front burner of national debate and political discourse.

"As a leading organization with mandate to promote good governance and political stability through propagation of peaceful co-existence and non-violent culture, we considered it paramount to do a thorough intervention in the state for the purpose of ensuring peaceful political process.

"It is a known fact that the state by all standards remains a peaceful federating unit, arguably the most peaceful.

"Meanwhile, the capacity to sustain that feat solely rests on leadership, it is on that note that we commend the Governor of the State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, for his peaceful nature and maturity to remain calm irrespective of degree of provocation".

Nairaland / General / Osun PDP Rejects Imposition Of Minority Over Majority, Denounces Sunday Bisi As by CityMirrorNews1: 7:19pm On Feb 18, 2022
Osun PDP rejects imposition of minority over Majority, denounces Sunday Bisi as acting Chairman

The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples' Democratic Party has frowned at a letter circulating on social media purportedly communicating a decision of the National Working Committee of the party over the appointment of a factional leader campaigning for one out of the Six Governorship Aspirants; Senator Ademola Adeleke, Mr Sunday Bisi as the Acting Chairman of the Party.

Recall that a couple of days ago the intra-party leadership squabble bedeviling the major opposition party in the state was gathered to be finally laid to rest in a landmark judgement delivered by Justice Aderibigbe of the State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife. The court ruled that Hon Soji Adagunodo was the Chairman of the party before his resignation from office. While stressing further in his verdict that the court affirmed the congress conducted under the leadership of Hon Soji Adagunodo and all other legitimate actions done by him, while in office. From the judgement it was clear that, part of the actions done in office by the Hon Adagunodo was handing over to Barr wale Ojo, who is the vice Chairman from the region/zone of the former Chairman before his resignation from office.

Meanwhile, our correspondent present at the state capital, Osogbo was at the rally organised by the People's Democratic party in the state.

Speaking shortly after the rally, the legally recognized State Acting Chairman Barr. Wale Ojo said " As you can see, our people from across the 30 local governments and the Area office have converged here today to show they're displeased with the position of the NWC. Let me say to you in clear terms, this is about constitionality and in the face of the law I remain the valid and legally recognized State Acting Chairman of Osun PDP. If you ask me, I would tell you unequivocally and expressly that the letter sent out as the position of the NWC of our great party is a mistake and this mistake will be pointed out and corrected."

Our correspondent also spoke with one of the leaders and Former commissioner under the platform of the Peoples' Democratic Party during the Era of Prince Olagunsoye oyinlola, Sooko Sunday Adewole from Ile-Ife. " We have gathered this afternoon to send strong signal to the Sen Iyorchia Ayu's led NWC of our great party to watch their back. They should desist from treading on the same path on which the erstwhile occupant of that office, Prince Uche Seconds, treaded— whom during his days turned party politics to personal business.

Another leader of the party from osogbo has this to say. "Going by the ruling of the Ile-Ife High Court, I think the NWC of the party should as a matter of exigencies recognize that judgement because in its real sense, the judgement binds all organs of our great party from the National to the state level.

A former Chairman of the Party in Osun, Barr. Ojo Williams said "the Peoples' Democratic Party which you all know is a democratic and law abiding party. What are we as a party going to campaign with, if we cannot obey a simple court pronouncement? If you take a keen look at our party constitution there's a place for supremacy of the constitution. What this implies is that, the dictates of the party constitution is supreme and in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He further implored the NWC led by Ayu to be cautious and never be allowed to be used as a destabilizing agent rocking the boat of Osun PDP, because this is the appropriate time for Osun PDP to recapture the state, he eloquently advised.

Nairaland / General / Osun PDP Refutes Purported Suspension Of Prof Wale Oladipo, Says It's Baseless by CityMirrorNews1: 4:06pm On Dec 31, 2021
The executive members of Ilode ward 1, in Ife East Local Government of People's Democratic Party, PDP in Osun state has refuted the purported suspension of the erstwhile national secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo by some people who are not known to the executive members of the party in the ward as baseless, Unfounded and far from the truth.

This was contained in a release issued and signed by the current PDP Chairman of the ward, Prince Omotosho Lawrence and authenticated by all members of the Ward Exco after their weekly meeting. Copies of their communique were made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Friday.

According to the release, the purported suspension was a charade by disgruntled loafers who lost out at the recently conducted Ward Congress where their political coffin was finally nailed after years of crass incompetence and open anti Party activities. That the reverred Leader had finally succumbed to the clamour for change of guard at the Ward level is a bitter pill for these agents of doom to take is the sole reason for this spuriuos, baseless and patently illegal misrepresentation of the position of the Ward.

"The executive members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in ward 02 (llode 1), in Ife East LGA of Osun State, has just been notified of purported suspension of Professor Wale Ladipo from the ward on spurious, baseless and unfounded allegation by a group of persons being led by one "Adelebare Adewuyi"

"We are through this public notice notifying members of the general public to discountenance such falsehood"

"The newly elected and National Convention recognised members of Executives in Ilode Ward 1 under the Chairmanship of Prince Lawrence Omotosho are solidly behind our leader Professor Wale Oladipo"

"We are admonishing these agents of destruction to desist from action capable of breaching the peace in Ife East Local government and the entire Ifeland. They should be mindful of the criminal content of their act of impersonation"

"As a matter of fact, we have adequately informed security agencies of this nefarious and untoward behaviour of these people who are presently on the wrong side of PDP. They are warned in their own interest to desist from such act henceforth, otherwise they will face the wrath of Law"

It would be recall that, a self styled executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in ward 002, Ilode 1, Ile-Ife, has allegedly suspended former National Secretary of the party, Prof Wale Oladipo over what they described as anti-party activities.

But the executive members of the party in Ilode ward 1 promptly met to serve a final warning to all impersonators masquerading as Party exco in order to truncate the chances of the Party in 2022.

Nairaland / General / Tetfund Contract Racketeering: Efcc Queries Management Of Agagu Varsity by CityMirrorNews1: 1:36pm On Dec 29, 2021
TETFUND CONTRACT RACKETEERING: EFCC Queries Management of Agagu Varsity, detained Procurement Officer

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced investigation of the Vice Chancellor of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa in the southern part of Ondo State of Nigeria and his Management team over what it termed “contract racketeering and violation of Procurement Act”.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Sunday Roberts Ogunduyile, his Deputy, Professor Francis Igbasan and the University Procurement Officer was said to have been petitioned by a bystander suspected to be one of the contractors who had bided for contract in the University but was edged out for reason of having anointed contractors to award the multi-million-naira contracts to. The bystander has decided to complain about the purported shady conduct of Management of the University on what seems to be their practice of breaching the Public Procurement Laws, especially about their wilful refusal to advertise some bids as a way to put potential qualified contractors in disadvantage, thus sacrificing the requirements of competitiveness on award of contracts as required by the Public Procurement Laws.

Sources from amongst the contractors who all preferred to relate under condition of anonymity confirmed that the University Procurement Officer, Mr. Bankole Adeyefa was the brain behind the illegalities in the University which was the reason why he was detained at the holding cell of the EFCC Benin Zonal Office. Other sources also confirmed that the Procurement Officer had to go to the extent of falsifying contract agreements in a bid to cover up some suspected infractions during investigations. He is being further investigated for offence likely to be forgery as the authenticity of the contract agreement he submitted to Benin office is still being verified.

According to a number of EFCC correspondence to the Vice Chancellor, whose tenure is said to be ending in February 22, 2022, there seems to be much for the Management of the University to explain.

By a letter signed by one Ede Nkechi Rita on behalf of the EFCC Benin Zonal Commander, titled “Investigative Activities 1. Rosjimtech Nigeria Limited, 2. Finlab Nigeria Limited, 3. Nairaland / General / Osun 2022; My Ambition Is A Call To Duty And Responsibility-dele Adeleke by CityMirrorNews1: 3:35pm On Dec 23, 2021
The rave of the moment and aspirant under People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun state, Mr. Bamidele David Adeleke has said, his ambition is born out of his passion to serve the people of the state using his wealth of experience gathered from private sector.

Mr. Bamidele stated this while featuring on a popular Rave F.M radio program tagged " Frank Talk"0

He said, his clarion call to service was the movement of the youths in the state who understand what re-engineering means

"My project..this ambition…this movement was born out of the clarion call that started from among the youths which started way back in 2018. There had been several calls since then and it continued to grow into the movement that it is today. And when it became clear that it would utterly be irresponsible for any man especially Dele Adeleke from the Adeleke family that is known for call to service, that is known for love of humanity, that is known for love for Osun people to see an opportunity to serve and to shy away from such responsibility,”

Speaking on the rumor of been sponsored by Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, Adeleke said, such claims are being done by “people…conjuring various postulations”

He said, " Governor Seyi Makinde and I have a good working relationship and personal relationship, and that is why some people think, ‘oh, he is the one sponsoring me.’

“Governor Seyi Makinde, respected leader of the party, not only in the south-west but also one of the major pillars of the PDP amongst the 13 PDP Governors, definitely will be interested in the enthronement of credible, competent leadership in the South-West. Also in bringing the South West together.”

He continued that he could no longer fold his hands while Osun State continues to go down the drain as it suffers in incompetent hands.

“From the word ‘sponsor’, it is the youths of Osun sponsoring me. It is the spirit of wanting to make that difference that we so desperately need, that is sponsoring me. Those are my driving forces.” He concluded.

Nairaland / General / Dawn Of A New Era, The Journey To Re-engineer Osun Begins - Dele Adeleke Declare by CityMirrorNews1: 5:57pm On Dec 17, 2021
Dawn of a new Era, the journey to re-engineer Osun begins - Dele Adeleke declares

One of the governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Mr Dele Adeleke had made it clear that if new Osun must be birthed, he's well prepared for it to happen.

He made this known today in Abuja while submitting his nomination form, saying Osun is in dire need of a person who understands the situation of things and has mental capacity to rescue the state from total collapse.

"Today as I submit my nomination form as an aspirant, I made it unambiguously clear that I have what it takes to rescue Osun State from the mismanagement of the ruling APC."

"I am coming into this race with three decades of hard-earned working experience in corporate financial re-engineering, project management and human resource management. My professional qualifications and proven track record of practical industry exposure have prepared me for challenging situations like the one Osun is presently mired, I am eminently qualified, competent and ready to undertake the re-engineering and repositioning that Osun so urgently needs. Therefore, I offer myself in service to be the vessel of upliftment, the ladder of ascension to the progress and prosperity of our beloved state."

"We must halt the retrogression of our dear State under the mismanagement of the APC. We must re-engineer, rebuild and reposition. We must salvage and make sense of all that we have left now, to build a today that is blissful for us and a future that our children can be proud to be part of."

It was gathered before the submission, there were lots of boasting from some quarters in Ede that mechanisms have been put in place to ensure Dele Adeleke does not get the requisite 45 PDP members from across the state to sign his nomination form.

Also, there were repeated boasts that he will not meet requirements and therefore be unable to scale through the official checks before submission, it was however reported that Dele Adeleke got 127 volunteer members of the PDP from the 30 LGAs offering to sign his nomination form, from among he chose the required 45 members.

This is clearly a testament to his statewide acceptance and growing affection.

2022: Osun West APC's women wing drums support for Oyetola /Alabi second term bid

...we are firmly on ground, ready for massive mobilization-Senatorial women leader

The All Progressives Congress, APC's women wing in Osun West Senatorial District, on Wednesday converged on Iwo, to mobilize members of the party and other electorates in the zone for the reelection of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, in the coming governorship election billed to hold on 16th July, 2022.

The women were resolute in their resolve to campaign massively for the party within the senatorial district and beyond, saying people of the state must be made to understand all that the government in the state is doing to make life better for the citizenry.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, the Osun West Women Senatorial Leader, Chief Mrs Funmilayo Adegbile, opined that APC's women in the zone were very proud of Governor Oyetola and his Deputy for what she termed tremendous achievements in all areas of human existence within the space of three years.

She explained that the Osun West Senatorial District is a friendly environment for the APC, based on laudable impact the government have had on the people of the area .

According to her, the consistent and steady pattern of development since 2018 when the present administration in the state came to power has distinguished the administration as responsible and responsive in all ways.

Adegbile, further asserted that no amount of lies and propaganda could sway the electorates in all the ten local governments in the zone from the path of APC, as she commended women across the zone in particular and all over the state for their unalloyed supports and solidarity.

''We are on the path of success on this journey , the unprecedented turn around in our dear state by this administration is already speaking for our party; our people now know better and could see the difference in every sector.

''For us in the West, especially women, we are more than ready to reelect our amiable Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola and his supportive and reliable Deputy, Benedict Alabi come July, 2022.

Nairaland / General / Between Dele Adeleke And Demola Adeleke By Farombi by CityMirrorNews1: 10:49am On Dec 13, 2021
To start with isn't it beautiful that a race which hitherto had been zeroed to one candidate is now been contested by 6 candidates as at this moment which includes a family member of the hitherto anointed candidate?

If anyone wants to know the definition of Democracy that person should be pointed in the direction of Osun PDP for all answers. To be sincere this is beautiful to watch and we all can't but pray for the best to emerge and deliver electoral victory to Osun PDP come July 2022.

At this point one can't but thank Hon. Olasoji Adagunodo for holding on dearly to the tenets of democracy, despite being at the risk of losing it all he held on steadfastly to the tenets of democracy and did not give up on deepening democracy in our dear state and the results are manifesting for all to see.

Now to the business of the day.
Without a doubt the race to watch out for is that between the duo of Mr Dele Adeleke and Senator Ademola Adeleke who both hail from the same family compound and share same blood.

While many supporters of Senator Demola Adeleke have taken to the streets to call Mr Dele Adeleke many unprintable names like bastard, betrayal, traitor and all since the purchase of his nomination form, I personally feel its totally uncalled for and Mr Dele Adeleke should rather be applauded for taking it up upon himself to renew the already battered image of the family politically.

I've received tons of calls since Mr Dele Adeleke's ambition was made public from different circles but of particular interest to me is the numerous calls from the youths in the state.

It was quite surprising hearing social media influencers and trendsetters who had hitherto vowed not to have anything to do with PDP in the coming election if we're hellbent on producing 'Adeleke' calling to declare support and seeking gigs to work for 'Adeleke'.

The only thing that made a difference to them is that, the Adeleke they want nothing to do with and the Adeleke they're ready to go all out for have different first names, Demola & Dele.

Everybody except for few mischief makers knows very clearly that the best foot the Adeleke dynasty can put forward is Dele's foot, not only has he been the brain behind Demola's ambition and strategy, he has also gone ahead to prove himself capable of managing affairs on his own and put in excellent performance everywhere he has been put to test since 2018, from Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo and many other places.
.
Mr Dele Adeleke is no doubt a far contrast to Sen. Demola Adeleke, everything Dele stands for Demola is the complete opposite. While Mr Dele Adeleke was busy building his political profile since 2018, Sen Demola Adeleke was nowhere to be found with only reports of him studying to get a degree in under 2 years being the only thing being heard of him and his supporters running haywire attacking every living and non living thing that did not support his ambition.

Suffice to say, Sen. Demola's ambition has suffered major hits mostly from the hands of his overzealous supporters who have created more enemies than friends for him thereby making him a polarizing factor in the state rather than the unifying factor which he ought to be.

A group within Osun state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Youth League Osun State Chapter, on Monday, rose from an extended Exco meeting to call on Bamidele Adeleke to join the Osun State Gubernatorial race come 2022.

This call is coming on the heels of demands by the Soro Soke Generation for a Governor who is passionate about the development of Osun State.

The Groups which announced the call sees Bamidele Adeleke as the man of the moment, and money should not be the determining factor in who becomes Governor in 2022.
The Group State Coordinator, Hon. Emmanuel Eni said this during the meeting in Osogbo.

Emmanuel said, “Today’s Osun has witnessed a high level of insecurity, unemployment, youth restiveness and acute borrowing, which has derailed our great State.

Emnanuel also advised “The PDP and Leaders to support and give Dele Adeleke the Governorship ticket come 2022 reason being that he is the most placed to lead PDP back to power considering his experience as a business manager who piloted the recapitalization drive of a major bank. His last performance in 2018 Gubernatorial election, where he was the lead strategist for Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the PDP flag bearer remains unforgettable. Dele's demonstrability of wealth creation and economy building, is what our dear state needs now.

Nairaland / General / Osun Govt Reacts To Clean-up Nigeria's Report, Says State Remains Most Cleanest by CityMirrorNews1: 4:07pm On Dec 06, 2021
Osun Govt Reacts To Clean-Up Nigeria's Report, Says State Remains Most Cleanest In Nigeria

Osun State Government has reacted to a report credited to an International non-governmental Organization, Clean-Up Nigeria which rated Osun as one of the dirtiest states in Nigeria.

The state faulted the claim saying Osun remains one of the cleanest state in Nigeria.

CityMirrorNews recalls that the
Clean-Up Nigeria, an international non-governmental organisation had rated Osun , Borno and Kogi , the most dirtiest states in Nigeria.

According to the international non-governmental Organization, with cleanliness performance index ratings of 12 per cent, 13 per cent and 14 per cent for Borno, Osun and Kogi respectively, the states emerged as the top three dirtiest in Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Environment and Sanitation, Hon Rufus Oyegbile while reacting to the report in an interview with Journalists, on Monday, described the claim of the NGO as a ruse and barbaric saying it was a delibrate attempt to rubbish the good work of the performing Governor.

Oyegbile said "it is callous and disheartened for a group not knowing to us with no defined criteria, to declare a State that has gotten several awards on cleanliness and sanitation as one of the dirtiest states in this country.

"I wonder what the NGO who has no website address and online profile, a masquerade, could be saying about the state of Omoluabi. This is insane. He said.

"With all sense of responsibility, Osun remains one of the cleanest state in Nigeria. The state capital and major cities in the state are kept clean everyday by over 500 sweepers, about 1000parkers, and 60 psp operators.

"Over 31large trucks and 43 small trucks pack over 1000tonnes of waste to our various dumpsites daily for effective management.

"How could some unscrupulous elements gathered together to tannish the good work of an action Governor? It's barbaric."

"I hereby reject such write up and warn the so called NGO to desist from such act. I thank you."

Career / Oyetola's Aide, Bello Cautions Lasun Yussuf Over Comments On 2018 Guber Poll by CityMirrorNews1: 3:41pm On Dec 03, 2021
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State on Social Intervention Programmes (SSA-SIP), Hon Lukman Abimbola Bello, has cautioned former Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf to stop being mischievous with his rigging allegations thrown to the person of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

This was made known on Friday by Hon Bello in his reaction to Hon Lasun's claim that Governor Oyetola was rigged in during the 2018 governorship election.

He said the former Deputy Speaker's claims were baseless and misleading, saying such is not expected from a person like him.

According to Hon Bello, "How would a governor who is known for peace and transparency involved in a dirty act like rigging election.

"Governor Oyetola who went through due process before, during and after the 2018 election got his mandate in a keenly contested election from the good people of Osun who wanted progressives party to continue after Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola finished his eight years.

"Lasun Yusuf should stop insulting Governor Oyetola and desist from comments that are capable of causing discord within the family of Osun APC.

He, however, urged members of the Osun APC to disregard politicians like Lasun Yusuf who are out to discredit Governor Oyetola in the faces of the electorate.

"Our goal as member of Osun APC is to ensure that governor Oyetola is re-elected come 2022" adding that "opposition must not be allowed to take this chance from us" he said.

"Governor Oyetola has done well in different sectors with leaving out good welfare for the civil servants of the state, infrastructures are going on in length and breath of the state, he added.

He also appealed to aggrieved members of the party to allow peace to reign by settling their differences and work harmoniously for APC to win come 2022.

" Governor Oyetola, went through clean and cleared primary before the real gubernatorial election then and won victoriously, so how could someone like Ilobu born politician be saying that the governor's election was rigged then and why can't he challenged it then? The statement concluded.

Nairaland / General / Akin Ogunbiyi Bags OAU Distinguished Alumnus Award by CityMirrorNews1: 3:12pm On Dec 02, 2021
The group chairman, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi has been described as a worthy ambassador of Obafemi Awolowo University and will on Saturday be honoured with Distinguished Great Ife Alumnus Award by the University.

This was conveyed in a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitayo O. Ogunbodede.

The VC remarked that the award of excellence was in recognition of Dr Akin Ogunbiyi's support and dedication to the growth of the University. He stressed that Dr Ogunbiyi is a “passionate, supportive and dedicated Great Ife Ambassador”.

The awardee graduated from the University of Ife, now OAU, in 1986 with a Second-Class Upper Degree. The class of the degree is a testimony that he has always been focused and understood what to do even as a young man. He also earned himself Honorary PhD. in Insurance and Risk Management because of his hard work, passion for knowledge, strategic business management skills and great human relations.

He obtained a master’s degree from the University of Navarra, Spain. He is a graduate of Yale School of Management, Harvard Business School, Advanced Management from the University of Oxford and many more. His quest for knowledge distinguishes him and makes it easy for him to be able to relate with every man and woman in different spheres of life including in business.

Dr Akin Ogunbiyi became Managing Director of a company four years after leaving University. He went from there to begin the path of building many business conglomerates including Mutual Benefits Assurance Group that now employs thousands of Nigerians and is contributing to the economic development of the Nation. At present, the business is worth billions of naira today.

For Dr Ogunbiyi, it takes not just knowledge to build business but charisma and the ability to manage resources of which human capital is the bedrock. He relates well with both old and young. His respect and empathy for humans is more than a gift but borne out of his humble background himself. He was born and raised in Ile-Ogbo, Osun State.

You can understand why it is very easy for him to set up a foundation that supports many students with scholarships. This and many more reasons is why it is not surprising when OAU decided to confer on him the Distinguished Great Ife Alumnus Award in recognition of his contributions to Nations building.

It should also be noted that what makes the USA, China and Europe great and different is because of industrial revolutions and the ability to empower their citizens. The leaders of these developed countries are great minds, selfless, knowledgeable, strategic, charismatic and these are the qualities inherent in Dr Akin Ogunbiyi.

Furthermore, the likes of Dr Ogunbiyi understand that quality education and training are vital to creating a successful business. They understand that our schools and the whole education system need proper attention so we can have employable graduates that can help sustain the economy. Great minds and successful businessmen and women understand that there has to be a security of lives and properties as these will affect their business and investment.

This is why Dr Akin Ogunbiyi wants to lend himself to the service of Osun State. This is what Dr Ogunbiyi will do if elected as Governor of Osun State come 2022. The fact that governance is a serious business is underscored why Governors are also referred to as Chief Executive Officers. We need experienced great minds like Dr. Ogunbiyi to wake up the crumbling economy of Osun so that an end will come to borrowing for unjust cause or not being able to meet up with the social responsibility as a state.
