I think it is the level of education, exposure and tendencies for diverse cultural exploration....

I noticed that it is the uneducated and poor folks here in Africa that get themselves involved in this tribalism game. The elites don't do tribalism with themselves, even the politicians amongst them does not get involved in it, rather they will mobilize the poor masses to fight themselves through weaponizing poverty. That's why you see sons and daughters of the rich northern elites getting married to that from the south and east and they live happily.

Until we eradicate illiteracy to a large extent here in Africa, issues like this is unavoidable.
