WhichKindWahala: I want to become a developer too. Please how do I go about it It all boils down to you: Programming has a broad scope but the first decision you need to make is; choosing between WEB DEVELOPMENT: if you're creative with designs, this is for you. Starting point: HTML/HTML5 and CSS/CSS3 What you can do with it: Create and design websites and web apps SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: if you're creative with problem solving. Starting point: PYTHON is highly recommended. What you can do with it: websites(server-side(that is not visible to the users)), mobile/desktop apps, games and lot more! ibkayee and CodeTemplar can also be of tremendous help! |

ibkayee: ClassicMcGee
Check out the thenewboston on YouTube, he has java tutorials that are straightforward and quite entertaining (in my opinion anyway lol), his way of teaching makes learning fun. I’m a visual learner so these type of tutorials help me a lot i'll take note of that |

CodeTemplar: Pseudocodes are normal language summary like English that breaks bigger task into smaller and logical steps to help accomplish the big task. That's interesting. You can help me with it now. It'll speed up my learning, as i won't just be learning basics aimlessly but will have a goal in mind. |
Programming › Re: Is It Advisable To Learn Java As My First Programming Language? by ClassicMcGee(op): 8:21am On Jun 08, 2018 |
ibkayee: Pseudocode is like an informal, readable, ‘draft’ way of writing algorithms/programming. You don’t have to use standard syntax basically, you’d use it to plan out a program you’ll eventually write in whatever programming language you want it in for example. Trust me, google will explain some of these things a lot better Thanks, About google,trust me there are so many conflicting opinions esp on quora. And i end up being more confused than i was before asking my question. And there are some pretty cool answers too but you wouldn't even get to interact with 'em. |

CodeTemplar: Master things like for loop, while, do...while, switch, String manipulation, Object creation and instantiation, pseudo codes, then do some exercise. Jumping into your project like that is more like a newbie who wants to learn driving by hitting the steering wheel on a highway or busy road. is like a pilot flying a plane for the first time without an instructor.
Study for at-least a week then come back and I will assist you with a small pseudo code to guide you through a console based quiz app. Have u gotten the book Java How To Program yet? It teaches things like array, random numbers that will be useful for a quiz app. Thanks, seems i'm breaking the speed limit. Ok,slow and steady does it,aiight.. Is there a particular sequence to learn those you said(object creation,pseudocodes etc.)? Maybe you should help me with the psuedocode, and what's pseudocope please? cc CodeTemplar cc ibkayee cc pcguru1 |

I've been dabbling in some of these languages from a young age, lol trust me I'm not a pro but I can get by That's one common thing with pros,they started at a young age . And they'd always achieve a great feat. What projects did you do as a beginner? I'm out of ideas. |

ibkayee: Hey dear, I studied it at school. Trust me once you get the hang of it, you'll look back and realise what I did was nothing special lol but I'm happy to help. Learning the syntax isn't that tough, it's the problem solving/how you're to apply the code in certain situations that can be the most challenging, it really helps to practice in school? In awe of you , there's this believe that you'll never be taught practically how to program. That leaves me wondering which school you attended? Maybe CU) |
Programming › Re: Is It Advisable To Learn Java As My First Programming Language? by ClassicMcGee(op): 10:10pm On Jun 07, 2018 |
ibkayee: I don’t use python so sorry for any mistakes
number = 1 while (number < 10): print number number = number + 1
Output: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Logic:
1. As long as ‘number’ is less than 10, print ‘number’ (eg. number is 1 because it has been set to 1) 2. Add 1 to ‘number’ (eg. 1 + 1 = 2) 3. The value of number is now stored as 2 4. Continue (loop) 5. As long as ‘number’ is less than 10, print number (eg. number is 2) 6. Add 1 to ‘number’ (eg. 2 + 1 = 3)
Real life logic:
As long as (ClassicMcGee practices): ClassicMcGee will improve If he stops he won’t
So the condition is that ClassicMcGee practices. As long as he continues to practice he will improve. As soon as he stops he will not improve while (ibkayee guides ClassicMcGee) ClassicMcGee will be obliged to learn if she doesn't //what will happen?;" lol! i need to step up algorithm.. i think i get it now,thanks! |
Programming › Re: Is It Advisable To Learn Java As My First Programming Language? by ClassicMcGee(op): 9:58pm On Jun 07, 2018 |
ibkayee: Sure. It basically executes statements repeatedly as long as the condition (boolean expression) you’ve given is true
while(booleanExpressio
Example
class WhileLoop{ public static void main(String args[]){
int classicMcGee = 25; //Integer variable set to 25
while (classicMcGee <=30){ System.out.println(classicMcGee); classicMcGee++; } } }
1. So it checks if your condition is true (in this case, we’re checking if classicMcGee who is 25 is less than or equal to 30).
2. If the condition is true, the variable is incremented by however much you’ve set, in this case, classicMcGee++ means it will be incremented by one every time
3. This will continue in a loop until the condition is longer true, Wow! It's amazing seeing a lady that code... Thanks for the simplified version, i really appreciate you finding out time to put a newbie through. How did you start coding? Was it tough? Sorry, I'm just curious. |
Programming › Re: Is It Advisable To Learn Java As My First Programming Language? by ClassicMcGee(op): 9:33pm On Jun 07, 2018 |
pcguru1: Java is actually good, learning C++ might not be a good idea, because you will have to learn alot about C++ and some indepth stuff and understand why certain things should taken into consideration than evn learning the language, but at some point the knowledge of C++ is very strong, you wlll really gain deep insight. however the main question is your drive, if you learn and don't follow up and build something with it, then it means you're just wasting your time. Noted sir! I think i'll stick with JAVA for now. Thanks, i really appreciate your response. |

wane01: python has its own originality .. We have languages that have been coined recently or I can say are relatively young . React native was made by devs from Facebook for building not so complex native apps. Go was built by devs from Google also So learning JAVA/C++/C would make me understand programming basics better, so i can easily switch to a new language? |

wane01: its just like the name "While" lemme give a layman's explanation ; "While" am asleep ... you keep on fanning me .. when I wake you stop . Try getting an example of a while loop in a simpler language like python and understand the concept before recoding in your language Thanks i understand that, what i don't understand is while: true. I think you understand cause i don't how to explain. |

wane01: My simple advice is to learn one language and get a good grasp before reaching out .... Some new modern languages are now being carved out from older languages e.g GO from c++, react native from js e.t.c Once you know the basic programming concepts the only problem you would have is adjusting to a new language syntax Python? |

CodeTemplar: There are platforms that do that but i haven't explored any. It is possible but have it in your mind that most frameworks are built upon languages so if iconic isn't built upon your language of choice you may have to learn another language and that exposes you to learning multiple language same time. It can be distracting. Pheew! I wish there a was a language that could do everything. So frustrating. |
