Athena6:
Last week I created a thread talking about how my japa plans have been crushed due to the increase in dollar.

Many adviced me to invest in dollar, this was the advice they gave me months ago but I did follow through because I wasn't sure.
My last thread hit front page and 90% of the comments were advising me to invest in dollars, one even quoted that in the past 10 years, the dollar haven't fallen but it increases every year.

One even called me a weak minded person and I am scared to take risks.
After everything I thought to myself, since so many people felt this dollar will keep on rising, maybe I should invest afterall life is all about risks.

Well guess what, dollar have decreased, I invested 3M in buying dollars and now in today exchange rate. I have 2.6M now and I either cash out now or hope it will increase.

Right now, I am very angry.
Those giving me advice should come and contribute the 400k for me o

Another thing, do you think the dollar will increase or should I just cut my loses.
I am so tired 😫
At what rate did you buy the dollar?

PoliticsImo Protest: Ajaero In Hospital, Battles To Save Right Eye by Clemzy19(op): 12:41pm On Nov 02, 2023
Medical experts at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, are currently battling to save the eyes of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero.

Ajaero was said to have been arrested by men of the Imo State Police Command while leading a protest in the state on Wednesday.

But the command said he was only rescued from a mob and put in protective custody.

Ajaero was seen in a viral video, sitting between two men while he was being rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.

In the video, the NLC boss said he didn’t have any phone on him, but had a relative in the employ of FUTHO who he hoped would be of assistance.

Meanwhile, the NLC officials condemned the incident as a heinous act of attempted murder.

The NLC Head of Information and Publicity, Benson Upah, described the treatment of Ajaero as an act of abduction that degenerated into attempted murder.

Upah said, “Contact has been made with Congress President, Joe Ajaero, this evening around 15:30 hours at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention.

“Thoroughly brutalised, his (Ajeoro’s) right eye at the time of contact was completely shut.”

I agree with you to never give up in life.

But realistically, is it not far fetched to expect to expect a cripple on wheel chair to win the world cup?

Obi has been crippled politically and that is a fact. The best he can ever be is to be a spoiler for a serious contender
But then Buhari contested about 4-5 times before he became President

Art, Graphics & VideoNigerian Artist Paints For 82 Hours To Set New World Record by Clemzy19(op): 2:49pm On Nov 01, 2023
Nigerian artist, Lola Mewu, has ended her painting marathon after 82 hours, as she aims to break the Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon.

Mewu began painting at 6:30 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023, and ended her marathon at 4:30 am on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, after painting for 82 hours and some minutes.

Lola aims to break the record currently held by Ronald Palmaerts in France, who painted for 60 hours in 2013.

See moment she ended the 82-hour painting marathon below:

If successful, Odumewu will become the third Guinness World Record holder from Nigeria this year following the amazing feats set by 17- year-old pupil, Philip Solomon and celebrity chef, Hilda Baci

In May 2023, Solomon, a student of Oyemekun Grammar School Akure, Ondo State, was declared the Guinness World Record holder for the most skips on one foot in 30 seconds. The boy achieved this feat back in January 2023, after recording 153 skips on one foot in 30 seconds to outdo former record holder Rasel Islam, of Bangladesh whose record was 145.

Baci was declared the world record holder for the longest cooking marathon by Guinness in June 2023 with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.

The chef cooked from May 11 to 15, creating over 100 pots of food during the challenge.

PoliticsWhy We Shot At Fubara — Rivers Police by Clemzy19(op): 2:32pm On Nov 01, 2023
The Rivers State Police Command has explained how the attack on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, during a protest at the state’s House of Assembly complex in Port Harcourt on Monday occurred.

The command described the attack as ‘not deliberate’, adding that the intention behind the water cannons and tear gassing was to disperse the protesters and to ensure the protection and safety of the governor from arsonists who were culpable of causing mayhem on the premises.

In a statement by the spokesperson for the state’s command, Grace Iringe-Koko, on Wednesday, it read, “Following the receipt of credible intelligence on the intention of some armed group of persons to cause mayhem in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, particularly at the State House of Assembly on Monday, October 30, and recalling the previous case of arson on the State House of Assembly a day prior which is currently being investigated, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations immediately deployed armed police operatives which he personally supervised in order to intercept the ‘hoodlums’ and ensure the protection of lives and properties within the State House of Assembly facility and its environ.

“At the complex’s entrance, it was observed that youths numbering over a hundred had begun a protest to gain access to the complex and conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

“This led to the police deploying non-lethal crowd control equipment, including tear gas and water cannons, to disperse the riotous and uncontrollable protesters.

“However, some minutes later, another aggressive group of persons approached the entrance of the complex and advanced towards the premises. The police, therefore, engaged them in like manner but observed that the Executive Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara, was in their midst.

The police maintained that the presence of the governor at the scene was of great surprise and shock as there was no prior communication to the police on the visit of the governor to the scene of the crime, which ordinarily is the usual protocol and complimentary that we accompany his guard for proper safety considering the intelligence of security threat at hand then.

In consideration of this, the DC Ops quickly took deliberate security steps to ensure his protection and safety while the Governor and his entourage went on to assess the level of damage caused by the fire incident.

“Thus, it’s pertinent to state that the Police did not deliberately attack the Governor or even attempt to hurt anyone, let alone the Chief Executive and security officer of the state, which is our most essential role to protect as being peddled in the news. Due to the present situation and the misrepresentation in some sections of the media, it is pertinent to clarify this.

“Similarly, the Rivers State Police Command has emplaced adequate security measures to ensure that the situation de-escalates and total calm is restored in the affected areas,” the statement added.

The PUNCH reports that the police shot water cannons and tear gas at the entourage of the governor while on their way to access the premises of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, which was reportedly burnt down following a crisis among the state lawmakers.

It was also learned that tear gas was used to disperse some lawmakers and protesters after the governor stormed the complex to prevent his impeachment.

Meanwhile, the governor accused security agencies of bias and “shooting at him directly” amid the ongoing crisis in the state.

Foreign AffairsStop Trading With Israel, Iran Urges Muslim Countries by Clemzy19(op): 1:14pm On Nov 01, 2023
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Muslim countries Wednesday to halt trade with Israel, including oil exports, in response to its bombardment of Gaza since deadly Hamas attacks.

Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip since Hamas gunmen stormed across the border on October 7 and, killed more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians, according to Israeli officials.

The bombing campaign has killed more than 8,500 people, two-thirds of them women and children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.

“Islamic governments must insist on quickly ending the crimes,” Khamenei told a gathering of students in Tehran.

Muslim countries should not cooperate economically with the Zionist regime (Israel),” he said, calling for a “block on oil and food exports”.

Khamenei lambasted Western governments who “stood against Palestine”, naming Britain, France and the United States.

“The Muslim world must not forget who is putting pressure on the population of Gaza. It’s not just about the Zionist regime,” he said.

Defence Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani warned, “certain European countries which help” Israel to “be careful not to anger Muslims”.

Iran, which supports Hamas financially and militarily, has hailed the militant group’s attack on Israel as a “success” but denied any involvement.

President Ebrahim Raisi has said Iran sees it as “its duty to support the resistance groups” but insisted that they act independently.

The White House has accused Iran of “actively facilitating” attacks on US forces in the Middle East.

On Friday, the United States announced a new round of sanctions targeting Hamas’s funding networks and sources of support in Iran.

EducationEFCC Arrests Over 70 OAU Students In Midnight Raid by Clemzy19(op): 12:20pm On Nov 01, 2023
Over 70 students of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife Osun State were reportedly arrested by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a midnight raid on hostels outside the campus.

Multiple sources in Ile-Ife confirmed to our correspondent on Wednesday morning that the officials, around 2 a.m., stormed the Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife, broke into rooms, and arrested the students.

Reasons for the arrest have not been confirmed as of press time, but the Students’ Union President, Abass Ojo, said the union had details of “72 students picked up from the hostel with phones and cars taken away.”

A former union official, Joy Abiola, told our correspondent that the students were beaten.

“The EFCC officials came between 1:40 a.m and 4:00 a.m. Only students stay in those hostels,” Joy said, adding, “How can you arrest people for owning iPhones, laptops, and cars?”

Another student, identified simply as Ewatee, said, “Female students were among those picked up. Even some fresh students who just went to greet their senior colleagues were arrested. The approach is wrong.”

In a video shared with our correspondent, taken by one of the students, several young persons said to be students of the hostel were seen being marched into a white Hummer Bus with some security officials hitting them and ordering them to move and enter quickly.

In another video, about six vehicles were seen alongside the white Hummer Bus on the move. Students said the officials were leaving the Ile-Ife area and heading to Ibadan.

Contacted, the head of Public Affairs Department of the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Command, Olumide Egbodofo, said an update would be given on the incident.

“A press statement will be released regarding that soon,” the spokesperson added.

Also, the phone line of the university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, was unreachable as of press time
