Police set to restore Tambuwal’s security aides The policemen controversially withdrawn from Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representatives, will be restored on Friday, TheCable understands. Suleiman Abba, the acting inspector-general of police, ordered the withdrawal of the security aides on Thursday, citing Tambuwal’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) as reason. The action had been widely condemned as politically motivated since the police are not empowered to interpret a constitutional matter. Curiously, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Civil Defence Corps did not withdraw their men. A presidency source told TheCable on Friday that the acting IG “clearly acted on bad legal advice in taking the decision”. He said President Goodluck Jonathan, who has been accused by the APC of giving the order to withdraw the police officers, will convene a meeting on Friday to resolve the impasse. Presidency is yet to make an official pronouncement on the development despite all fingers pointing in the direction of Jonathan. “The president believes in the rule of law and it is becoming glaring that the police did not get good legal advice in taking the decision they took. If the president was the one that ordered it, as claimed, why would he not also order DSS and civil defence to withdraw their men?” he asked. However, it is still considered “highly improbable” that the police would withdraw the security aides of Nigeria’s No. 4 citizen without the knowledge of the president. Meanwhile, APC senators plan to make it difficult for the confirmation of the appointment of Abba as IG. Abba, appointed in acting capacity in August, needs to be confirmed by the senate. Angered by the Tambuwal saga, leading APC senators have vowed to block Abba’s confirmation, TheCable was told. But his confirmation requires only a simple a majority or a voice vote, and the APC does not have the numbers in the upper chamber of the national assembly. Although defections are now taking place on almost weekly basis, the PDP had 65 of the 109 senators as at the last count. http://www.thecable.ng/police-set-restore-tambuwals-security-aides |

The fact is that the President Jonathan is so afraid of losing to the people's General in next year's election, that he employs Fayose and wike thuggery style of politics in fighting any perceived opponent. Unfortunately for him, Nigerians are so determined and resolute in their resolve to sending him back to otuoke with drums of Kai Kai, cos he is unfit to preside over even a council ward! TAMBUWAL Carry Go!!! |
mikeansy:So why are the PDP in Court for interpretation? "Why didn't they enforce it with "their police" in respect to the 37 who defected earlier? |

berem:Seun, is waiting for any glimpse of lie from the Defence headquarters, something like " No Town Was Seized By Boko Haram, Cease Fire Deal In Progress" Olukolade, and fiam it would be stacked on the frontpage. The issue is, Nigerians love living in self denials, they hate to hear truth! And anybody who speaks the truth, is always termed an enemy of the state! Seun has lost it here! And our Azonto Drunkard of a president is only interested in stealing and rehabilitation of his drug barons and convicted criminal friends!

barcanista:Have you seen the budget? If yes, can we share it? If No, why are you sounding so confident?Sir, I am very sure that it wasn't budgeted for. If it was, it would have reflected in the budget. The budget is a public document and not a secret one. Beside, the Government house was alleged to deduct the monies from their allocation. I challenge the first lady to bring out the cheques that was signed by the Chairmen and other supporting document. Boss this is pure fraud The government was "alleged" by who? Wike? You want the First to bring out the Cheque? As demanded by Barcanista, EFCC, Police or Wike? This is pure fraud? because Wike and Obuah said so? Barcanista, I expected you to wait for reaction from the First Lady before passing judgment as informed mind! Remember Fayose and 89 Billion Debt, Omisore and recounting of votes, to avoid shooting yourself on leg! |
barcanista:He came to derail the thread! |
barcanista:100% right there! But we still need highlight their hypocrisy there! |
Hypocrisy is when a south-south guy criticize Ameachi for joining APC. But praise Bafarawa & Shekarau for joining PDP! Hypocrisy is when PDP goes to court to stop PDP legislators defecting to AP But celebrate when APC legislators decamp to PDP. Hypocrisy is when the senate president refused to read Saraki & cos defection letter to APC But was quick to read Chukwumerije's defection letter to PDP! Hypocrisy is when PDP celebrate the defection of gov Theodore Orji & Ohakim to PDP But go to court to stop kwankwaso & co from defecting to APC ! Hypocrisy is when Oghiadomhe is sacked, to go & pursue his governorship ambition & Nyisom Wike is left to double as minister of education & military administrator of River state. Hypocrisy is when Bashir Argungu writes against GEJ and is called tribalistic and Edwin clerk's utterances called freedom of speech. Hypocrisy is when Stella Oduah is sacked for corruption charges that amount to 255million & Diezani Allison Madueke is left as minister with corruption charges amounting to $20billion! Hypocrisy is when PDP say 16 is > than 19 & 5 is > than 26!... For how long will this continue? Add Yours! Ibnsultan:My bad! Taken |
justitiaomnibus:What's this one saying? |
Sibabasibaba1:The thread is about the office of the Speaker not about Tambuwal as a member of house of rep! Before now, many people believed you can only become a speaker, if your party had the majority of Members in the house, whereas as the constitution didn't say so. Did you also read where, Oliseh Metuh-the PDP spokesman called for the resignation of Tambuwal citing the minority status of his new party? |
patrickmuf:You are right! We need to put things in an A, B, C way for the daft, ignorant, and Never-Willing-To-Know Pro PDP posters here! |
I read an article somewhere, where Oliseh Metuh of PDP, called for the resignation of Hon. Tambuwal for ditching a party on whose majority he rose to the office of the speaker house of Representative. In his exact words: “After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority [in the House]” he said. I have also read some comments offline and online, when some ignorant/paid commentators have started insinuating that Hon Tambuwal May lose his office for simply not fulfilling the requirements of the law as regards the position of speaker. It is very unfortunate that some Nigerians including public office holders are too lazy, to read the elementary sections of our Constitution, some of which are self explanatory. Now, let us examine what Chapter V, Part 1 (Composition Of National Assembly) sections 47 -50 of the Constitution Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria holds: There shall be a National Assembly for the Federation which shall consist of a Senate and a House of Representatives. 48. The Senate shall consist of three Senators from each State and one from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. 49. Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the House of Representatives shall consist of three hundred and sixty members representing constituencies of nearly equal population as far as possible, provided that no constituency shall fall within more than one State. 50. (1) There shall be:- (a) a President and a Deputy President of the Senate, who shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves; and (b) a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who shall be elected by the members of that House from among themselves. (2) The President or Deputy President of the Senate or the Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall vacate his office - (a) if he ceases to be a member of the Senate or of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, otherwise than by reason of a dissolution of the Senate or the House of Representatives; or (b) when the House of which he was a member first sits after any dissolution of that House; or (c) if he is removed from office by a resolution of the Senate or of the House of Representatives, as the case may be, by the votes of not less than two-thirds majority of the members of that House. So where did PDP find the supposedly "loophole" or authority in law, in asking Hon. Tambuwal to resign? The only option left for them, is to rally their members and see if they can muster the required number when plenary resumes in decemeber, in order to satisfy Section 50, subsection 2 C as highlighted above. Anything else is calling for anarchy! CC; Barcanista, Omenka, Berem, Obiagelli, Neenar, Donphilopus, ibsultan, Gbawe, pataki, edcure, pendy97, and the progressives!
