MrLouisVanGaal: Arsenal and Arsene are horrible. We got there twice in the new millennium and almost lost twice but nicked it at the last. We went on to reach the final twice again... All that time Wenger was only displaying his skills in economics. He's a great coach no doubt but successive evictions from the champions League and a final appearance almost 10 years ago is pathetic despite the way he transformed Arsenal. Even Di Matteo won one. Coaches came to England and won the Champions League. Enough template for Arsene to know what to do alas he is still making the great escape till today only to face the likes of Barcelona... The most dangerous Barcelona i can remember He is also a lucky man too... 99.9% of coaches in his shoes would been sacked over the last decade... |

nateevs: When I said many weeks ago that we were in a proper relegation fight, some thought I was exaggerating. When I also mentioned in the same post many weeks ago, that we had a fundamental problem, one that has existed for long time, one of a very blunt attack, unable to penetrate resolute defences and create chances, I was told I was exaggerating.
A few victories against weak teams made some folks carried away. Fast forward to December, the problems exist. Watch how Leicester build up to the first goal, moving the ball through the middle with swift passes and movements and tell me we play like that. I will state it for the umpteenth time, this is beyond Jose Mourinho. Jose lacks the fundamental concepts of developing attacking play. This is the only reason why you have Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Remy, Oscar, Costa and Nihilist thinks that counter-attacking football is our strongest set-up.
Those players alone have a combined value of £145m - more expensive than the whole of the Leicester team, 3 times over and the best way to beat them is to sit back and concede possession? Wonders shall never end.
It's a simple concept. When your idea of winning is predicated upon the opponent not scoring first, then one day when that defensive unit is faulty (as it is now), you will win few matches because the fundamental concepts of building attacks to create chances and score goals has been absent. You have little to nothing to rely on.
This concept only works for one or two seasons and that is why this fella has never been found out. When the true test of building a dynasty is upon us, this method of winning will not stand the test of time. It is a method built 'ONLY' on defensive organization; nothing more.
I don't dispute that Jose is an astute organizer but without dispute, managers like Bielsa, Wenger, Pep, Ferguson, et al will make a formidable attacking unit out of these players.
I am glad no one is still claiming the players are not playing for Jose. What's the excuse now? You are not just a fan but a real analyst... Truth is bitter... But I agree completely with you... Look at what happened to Inter after winning treble with mourinho's famous "pack the bus"... It only last for a while...its negative football not positive football... Not everybody sees this... He called himself "special one"... Now he has been found out like you said but not everybody understands the problem like you rightly pointed out...not even tv or football analysts know why... |

raumdeuter: Interviewer: It was a difficult night, what are your thoughts?
Mourinho: I think [Leicester] deserved to win because they were better than us during a longer period of time. I think we were the best team for 20-25 minutes, they were the best team for an hour.
They were very consistent, very focused, not making mistakes, aggressive with everyody, high tempo, great mentality - it was difficult for us.
Then we concede two goals that are unacceptable for me. I know my best quality is to read the opponents for my players and to identify every detail and these two goals - with the movement of [Jamie] Vardy between the two central defenders and then [Riyad] Mahrez one-against-one when I want one-against-two - are difficult to accept.
I feel my work was betrayed. Then we scored a goal with 15 minutes to go, but it was almost five because of the ballboys, the injuries, the ball disappearing and all this stuff. It's not nice, but they did it very well.
It's difficult for us to score goals when [Chelsea's players] are not at their best level, it's obvious, everyboy knows that. When you have some players in crucial positions not playing at a normal level, it is difficult.
Interviewer: Was it hard to watch?
Mourinho: Yeah, it was hard. All last season I did phenomenal work and I took them to a level that is not their level. It's more than they really are. It’s not all of them, of course, but clearly for some of them it is more difficult [to repeat those levels of performance].
Interviewer: What happened with the Hazard injury?
Mourinho: The only thing I know is in 10 seconds he made the decision himself. It must be a serious injury as he made the decision himself and just left the pitch.
It must be something important. His first reaction was ‘I can’t’ but then he wanted to try. Then he said he couldn’t do it and it was him in a few seconds that had three different perspectives. He is injured, clearly.
I don’t have time to understand what the injury was during the game, now I will have time to understand. Clearly he tried, but he felt immediately he couldn’t carry on.
Interviewer: Your changes helped. Mourinho: I always try to help, [my changes] helped, but it wasn't enough. We took off John [Terry], kept [Kurt] Zouma and Azpi [Cesar Azpilicueta] for the [Leicester] counter-attacks, because of their pace.
We put on an extra midfield player, then an extra striker, because clearly Diego [Costa] is in trouble in the box. Normally his movement is outside the box, so I tried to bring [Loic] Remy in to have another body there.
Interviewer: What do you try now?
Mourinho: I don’t know any way than working at the top level - and that’s what I do every day. I have to be honest and say day-by-day in training I have no complaints with the players.
There is a difference between training and matches, clearly yes. I have to be honest with them, but in training they work well. I enjoy training with them because they want to work.
Interviewer: Is the top four gone now?
Mourinho: [size=18pt]Yes, clearly yes[/size]. I must say... having listened to him... I felt so sorry for him especially when he said he was being betrayed! Honestly the way hazard waka commot smell betrayal... |
