Just six days to Christmas,4 friendshave died in a fatalcar accidentthat happened in the early hours of yesterday inIkotun,Lagos, Nigeria. The fatalcar crashhappened around 2am at the popular Arida Bus Stop after the driver lost control and hit an electricity pole. 4 out of the 5 occupants of the car died while the survivor is presently clinging to life at an undisclosed hospital. Police sources said the identities of the victims were not yet known. The registration number of the affected Toyota Tercel car was given as BT 597LND. The victims bodies have been deposited at the Igando General Hospital mortuary. The damaged car has been taken to Ikotun Police station. Police sources have made contact with the deceased relations.

No fewer than 22 persons were burnt to death on Wednesday in an auto crash in Takai, the headquarters of Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.
An eyewitness told theNews Agency of Nigeriaon Wednesday that the accident occurred at about 12.30 p.m.
According to the eyewitness, nine other persons, who sustained injuries, were taken to the Takai General Hospital.
He said the vehicle, an old model of Ford, was carrying 34 persons and bags of foodstuffs when the accident occurred.
According to the witness, the vehicle was coming from Magami Village in Sumaila Local Government Area of the state when it somersaulted and went up in flames.
The witness said the victims comprised 17 women and children while the rest were men.
“Only the driver and one other passenger escaped the accident unhurt,’’ he said.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Garba Ibrahim, confirmed the number of death in the accident.
He said nine injured persons were taken to Takai General Hospital for medical treatment.
Ibrahim said the deceased were given mass burial at the scene of the accident by some members of the community.

Masked gunmen on Tuesday evening kidnapped Mrs. Ngozika Oraegbunam, the wife of the Anambra State Chairman of the Labour Party in Awka.

The Principal and staff from Supreme Education Foundation Schools were in Lagos State Magistrate Court to support Mr. Abragandu Kan Nanya Aminu on December 16, 2013, Monday, who faces court for allegedly taking a photograph of a traffic warden.
Mr. Aminu is accused by the police for photographing a traffic warden inspector, Okpanachi Godwin, when he had positioned himself in front of a commercial bus to stop it moving on the Ikosi Junction of Ketu, Lagos State on November 19.
There were indications that the warden was trying to extort the bus driver and as such was fearful that the photo will make it to the Internet. In some recent cases such photos / videos led to dismissal of police officers.
Police officers objected to the photograph, seized Aminu's mobile phone, arrested him and took him to prison where he was treated in inhumane manner. Human rights groups petitioned the police for Aminu's release.
Police have charged Mr. Aminu of unlawful assault of a police officer, resisting and obstructing police officers in their duty, and breaching public peace.
In his interview to SaharaReporters the teacher explained he took the photograph to show to his students as an example of wrongful conduct for students in the School's traffic monitoring club.
Mr. Aminu's supporters insisted that he wasn't taking the photograph for mischievous purposes despite the police having a reputation in Nigeria for extortion.
The next hearing has been set for February 24-25, 2014.

The unexpected meeting held prior to the anniversary event which was held at the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, Nairobi with former president, Obasanjo paying a surprise visit to President Jonathan at the Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi where they had a private breakfast together. Obasanjo, who had the breakfast with President Jonathan had written a strongly worded letter, which went public earlier this week, accusing him of performing below par and taking actions calculated at destroying the country. Meanwhile, in his speech, at the event, President Jonathan called on all Kenyans to unite. According to him, there was no alternative to unity if Kenyans must move their nation forward. In building their nation, Jonathan told Kenyans that they must make unity their focal point. He said that the destiny of Kenya lies with its people and as such, the people must strive hard to take their country to a greater height. President Jonathan said that he was happy that former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga was present at the event and working with President Uhuru Kenyatta. “Nobody can love you more than Kenyans, so you all have to jointly develop your country. All Kenyans should come together to form an inclusive society. “Since 2007, many African countries like Kenya have been celebrating 50 years of independence and freedom, our founding fathers talked of political freedom to be followed by economic freedom. “The present generation of African leaders must work hard on science and technology as well as industrialisation, so that there could be economic development and freedom” Jonathan stated. Obasanjo was said to have sat quietly during the event and was making calls on his mobile phone at intervals while the event lasted.

The story of a 32-year-old Pius Abayomi Abiodun is one which causes remorse, pity and at the same time could go for one of the 'Wonders of Lagos'. The handsome well built light complexioned gentle man is one of the thousands of Commercial Bus Drivers, popularly called Danfo Drivers, in Lagos.
For a passenger boarding his bus for the first time, nothing suggests Pius has no legs. When a reporter boarded his bus 2 weeks ago at Town Planning junction towards Western Avenue in Lagos, he didn't notice Pius had no legs to drive the Danfo. After about 10 minutes journey, a driver who rode a mini truck pulled up on the lane Pius drove and before the passengers could blink their eyes Pius increased his speed and got at par with the truck, looked towards the driver and said, "Iwo, ma deal pelu e (You, I will deal with you). You dey try me?"Despite words of caution from his conductor, who said"Leave am"severally Pius did the unimaginable as if he was instructed by the Road Safety men, he applied his breaks and forced the mini truck to a slower speed, one of the Road Safety men gesticulated to the truck driver to pull over for retinue check. Pius didn't say a word but this reporter could read something like,"You drivers with legs, I will make you all to respect me by force!".
A more careful look at Pius behind the wheels, the reporter was in for a shocker. Pius controlled the accelerator and brake pedals with his hands. He exhibited the mastery of his specially built Danfo which he operated without any qualms. The reporter and Pius exchanged phone numbers with a promise he would get in touch for an interview soon.
As nature would have it, Pius and the reporter met at the Town Planning Road Junction Bus Stop, where they first met. The reporter quickly hopped into the front passenger seat Pius had instructed his conductor to reserve for the reporter. It was a trip through Western Avenue to Nigeria Breweries Area to Orile Iganmu linking Coker (Ijeshatedo Area) and through Apapa-Oshodi Express Way to Oshodi Terminus and Down to Town Planning Road Junction. The trip lasted for 1 hour 20 minutes and a trip that also got Pius very sober because of a few of the questions took him back memory lane when he had both legs and functioned like every other Lagos Driver with two legs. On the day they agreed to meet as nature would have it they met at the same spot the reporter boarded his bus.
Pius who hails from Mowo, Badagry in Lagos was not born without legs. According to him,he was involved in a fatal accident.
