The love of moneeeeeeeey |
There is something called economy of scales in life. It is a concept that transcends many areas of life. Mariage, community, industry, home economics, family, civilization, urbanization, academics, and even ministry or church as we all like to call it. Let me explain the concept with few examples. Example one - Industry If i have the task of producing a shirts with the inscription "JESUS IS LORD" on t-shirts, and i approach a printer(press), they will give me the a quote that breaks the cost into two main component. The static, unchanging part on one side, and the redundant parts that needs to increase as i print more shirts. That will be the impression or mold creating the unique inscription and then the ink used to create more inscriptions on more shirts. The impression or mold is of fixed cost and the ink used per shirt is of fixed cost also but with an interesting twist. The two cost will combine to give a lower per unit cost of printing each shirt. That means in simple terms, i get a cheaper deal per shirt as i print more shirts or more appropriately put, scale up my shirt production. Thats where the concept of economy of acales comes from. That is to say, scaling up production to reduce cost or improve economics of production on a per unit basis. Example two - Family Mr A has 2 children and Mr B, 50 children, all in school. Mr A can afford to put his two kids in a school of N50,000 tuition. Mr B on the other hand will need N2.5m to put all his children in such a school and may be well served by establishing a school not far from home(transportation cost too) and enrolling his children there, then hopes the extra admissions from outsiders helps offset the bill in that school to his advantage. If Mr B follows my advise, then he will have scaled up the size of his involvement in education to drive down per unit cost of educating his chidren on a basis, and that's what the economy of scale concept entails. If Mr B and Mr A are neighbours, Mr A may even choose to enroll his kids in Mr B's school to save transportation cost. Example Three - Education. A university faculty has 20 competent lecturers, allowed to admit 500 students but have space to comfortably accommodate 1000 students. They may decide to actually admit the 1000 student and support the faculty with 10 junior lecturers to assist with aspect of the faculty that scales up with more student. Areas like examination script marking and supervision of exams or projects or material handling. At the end, if 500 students can offset the cost of paying 20 senior lecturers, then 10 extra hands can aid scaling up of faculty size to 1000, we may well say scale of exonomics has kicked in, and to good effect. The main point - The church. Finally let's come back to ministry or the church which is the focus of this topic. Getting a jet does not conclusively connote wastage or avoidable luxury. It is all about the cost of the average travel by key members of the ministry involved. By scaling up their involvement in transport or travel, will it drive down average cost of travel for that church? Thats the main question to be answered and not why a catholic that's bigger in finances has no jets compared to smaller churches. Thats like saying because Holland or Belgium is smaller than Kaduna or Kwara state alone in Nigeria, they are being greedy by industrializing their country to be bigger and stronger economically than Nigeria. |

erad:If Adeleke wants to build a whole uni for AI, let's see the programs on offer in that university and a strategy to staff them effectively. Will the university curriculum come from NUC? If not from where? This is overdo in my opinion. AI shouldn't need a whole school but a department under science and technology faculty at most. |
Will it be a monotechnic? Thats one program they are building a while school/university for? Wonderment. |

After "cornering" the public amenities and funds, they are eyeing private owned organisations. That is chaos to the society. They like to enjoy what they are not part on their own terms. Thats satanic. |
