RomanceFirst Ever Same-sex Marriage In The Royal Family To Take Place This Summer by cokoesang(op): 1:11pm On Jun 19, 2018
The first ever royal family same-sex wedding between the Queen’s cousin Lord Ivar Mountbatten and his partner James Coyle.

Lord Ivar, 55, came out 2 years ago, 6 years after the end of his 16-year marriage with ex-wife Penny Mountbatten which saw the birth of their 3 daughters.

In an interview with Daily Mail, it was revealed that Penny will give Lord Ivar’s hand out in his wedding to James in a private chapel on his country estate in Devon later this summer.

They have described the wedding as a very small affair, saying:

We’ll be pronounced partners in marriage, but the ceremony itself will be very small. It’s just for the girls and close family and friends.

We’ll have lovely food and really good music, but there won’t be two men in tuxedos on a cake, white doves or anything twee or contrived like that, will there?

EducationRe: The Use Of "An" Before H Sounding Words, Is It Correct? by cokoesang: 11:39am On Jun 13, 2018
encryptjay:
If the sound that succeeds it, is consonant, use 'a' but if it's a vowel sound, use 'an'.
In simpler words, if 'h' is silent during pronunciation, use 'an' for example
An honour
An heir
An hour
For non-silent 'h', use 'a'.
A horse
A herd
A hospital.

It's an honour to meet with you.
This is a hospital

Good explanation, spot on

I think I've heard, "an husband" before. grin
PoliticsTheresa May Asks Nigeria, Others To Revoke Anti-same Sex Laws by cokoesang(op): 12:33pm On Apr 18, 2018
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, on Tuesday in London urged countries that had made laws banning same-sex marriage to change their stand.

She described such laws as outdated legislations.
May made the call while addressing leaders at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting holding in the British capital.

Nigeria is one of the Commonwealth nation’s that have promulgated laws against same-sex marriage.

May promised her country’s support for any country that would revoke the law.

She said three countries that had earlier made such laws recently revoked them and advised others to emulate them.

She said no one should make any law persecuting or discriminating against another person on account of who the person chooses to love.

The Prime Minister recalled that the last Commonwealth meeting resolved to float an organisation that would promote the interest of gays, lesbians and transgenders.

She said, “Recent years have brought welcome progress. The three nations that have most recently decriminalised same-sex relationships are all Commonwealth members, and since the heads of government last met, the Commonwealth has agreed to accredit its first organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

“Yet there remains much to do. Nobody should face persecution or discrimination because of who they are or who they love. And the UK stands ready to support any Commonwealth member wanting to reform outdated legislation that makes such discrimination possible, because the world has changed. When, in 1953, the newly-crowned Queen Elizabeth set off on a tour of the Commonwealth, she travelled by air, sea and land on a journey that took more than five months.
Today, many members of the Youth Forum have only ever known a time in which they can instantly converse with one another regardless of where in the world they live.

“Unlike previous generations, today’s young people don’t need an organisation like the Commonwealth to connect them. They can build their own bridges, forge their own links, mastermind and run their own campaigns.

“If the Commonwealth is to endure in such a world, we must demonstrate our relevance and purpose anew. We must show what the Commonwealth is capable of and this summit can be the moment where that change begins to happen.”

May also stated that her country was investing £44m for improving the abilities of member-nations to independently curb any menace of natural disasters in their countries.

The Presidency however declined comment when our correspondent sought to know if President Muhammadu Buhari would consider May’s call.

PoliticsUS Ambassador To Nigeria Accusses House Of Reps Members Of Attempted Rape by cokoesang(op): 3:31pm On Jun 16, 2016
Mr James Entwistle, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria has written a petition to the Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon Yakubu Dogara, stating that some members of the House of the Reps who recently visited the United States on an official programme, attempted to rape a hotel housekeeper, and that they also solicited for prostitutes.

According to the New Telegraph which obtained the letter, the accused members were among the team who attended the just concluded International Visitor Leadership Program in Cleveland, Ohio.

The accused people are: Hon. Mohammed Garba Gololo (APC, Bauchi), Hon. Samuel Ikon (PDP, Akwa Ibom) and Hon. Mark Gbillah (APC, Benue).

Read Entwistle’s letter:

“It is with regret that I must bring to your attention the following situation. Ten members of the Nigerian National Assembly recently travelled to Cleveland, Ohio as participants in the International Visitor Leadership Programme on good governance. We received troubling allegations regarding the behaviour of three members of the delegation to the U.S. Government’s flagship professional exchange programme.

The U.S. Department of State and the Cleveland Council on World Affairs received reports from employees of the Cleveland hotel where the representatives stayed, alleging the representatives engaged in the following behaviour: Mohammed Garba Gololo allegedly grabbed a housekeeper in his hotel room and solicited her for sex. While the housekeeper reported this to her management, this incident could have involved local law enforcement and resulted in legal consequences for Representative Gololo.

Mark Terseer Gbillah and Samuel Ikon allegedly requested hotel parking attendants assist them to solicit prostitutes.

The U.S. Mission took pains to confirm these allegations and the identities of the individuals with the employees of the hotel in Cleveland.

The conduct described above left a very negative impression of Nigeria, casting a shadow on Nigeria’s National Assembly, the International Visitor Leadership Program, and to the American hosts’ impression of Nigeria as a whole.

Such conduct could affect some participants’ ability to travel to the United States in the future.”

While the majority of Nigerian visitors to the United States do behave appropriately, even a few Nigerians demonstrating poor judgement leads to a poor impression of the Nigerian people generally, though it is far from accurate. Such incidents jeopardise the ability of future programming and make host institutions and organisations less likely to welcome similar visits in the future.

In addition, most of the members of this group reacted very negatively to my deputy when she brought this matter to their attention, further calling into question their judgement and commitment to the goals of the International Visitor Leadership Programme.

This leads us to question whether to include National Assembly members for other similar programmes in the future.

I request, in the strongest possible terms, you share this message with members of the National Assembly so they understand the seriousness of these issues, and the potential consequences of their actions, not only for themselves as individuals, but also for the future of such programmes designed to benefit Nigeria.”

Ten Nigerian lawmakers visited Cleveland, Ohio on the invitation of the US government to attend the International Visitor Leadership Program which held between April 7 and 13, 2016.

johnkent: You argument about polygamy is a lil stu-pid. Polygamy is illegal in most countries as a way to protect women's right. Your African fathers were getting married to these women not because they loved them but as a way to "enslave" them and their kids.
It's sad that an intelligent young man/woman like you in the 21st century is talking about the legalization of polygamy. This is just exactly what's wrong with Nigeria. We educated africans need to get away from our obsolete/archaic beliefs. It's absolutely not going to get us anywhere.
You absolutely do not have to be for gay marriage but atleast recognize that there are people out there that are gay and you should respect that.
In the next decade or so, this whole gay marriage controversy will be history.
