Politics / Re: Lagos Govt Sued Over Ban On Eze Ndigbo Title by colosal: 5:49am On May 08, 2009
I sometimes get worried reading comments on Nairaland primarily because most of the contributors are young supposedly open minded people but most the comments reek of ignorance and tunnel vision. Do we not realise that you have a right to assign whatever title u wish to yourself? The Governor also has the right to choose not to deal with these title holders in an official capacity. Much as I truly respect the work governor Fashola has done in Lagos, banning the Eze Ndigbo title was a mega goof and it does smack of some form of tribalism.
However I must quickly add that the so-called Eze Ndigbos played into the state govts hand by dragging themselves before the govt. I personally detest this title especially as it is invariably self imposed but I will defend to death their right to have it. I daresay that the Gov would never attempt to 'ban' the sarkin Hausawa title no matter how proliferated and meaningless it becomes. Gov fashola is shaping up to become the greatest ever governor in Nigerian history. He should avoid the murky shark-infested waters of ethnic politics. It is an Ill wind that blows no good.
PS. Ive struggled not to comment on supposed new generation-Nigerians who ask why some1 wld bear a title in 'anotha' persons land. Im sure u have no issues working in a company established in Lagos by an Igbo man and calling him 'daddy' to get promoted. We need to see ourselves as Nigerians first. People must be encouraged to integrate and contribute to the development of any state where they find themselves. This didnt happen with previous generations, we should at least make the effort to start it in ours.
Career / Re: Salary Structure Of Etisalat, Zain, MTN, Glo? by colosal: 8:40pm On Apr 23, 2009
Hey Mr Ajanlekoko,
While I may not have anyfacts to dispute your figures for most of the other companies, your figures for etisalat are a total hogwash. Entry level in etisalat, in this case sales/customercare earn between 2.5m and1.8m p.a for university graduates and experienced staff and 1.2m p.a for Poly graduates without experience. For the other positions, etisalat has embarked on a strategy of offering higher wages in order to attract much needed experienced staff from other telcos so you will find that wages are generally higher.
Zain has recently laid off several senior level officers with the majority being managers. Anyone with knowledge of telecomms will know that zain is in a mess financially at the moment and so many of their staff have had to move on.
You stated that managers at etisalat do not have medical benefits. Thats totally false as all staff are covered under the reddington health plan. Etisalat continues to increase bonuses and benefits for staff. A little over 2 months ago, staff credit was tripled for entry level from 10k per month to 30k permonth for entry level and managers get as much as 70k per month on their staff lines. One thing you must understand about these UAE people is that theyre not so much in a hurry for profits and they are more interested in establishing any kinda presence in Nigeria.
You were however right about outsourcing in the technology and IT areas but they recently advertised several vacancies in the IT and tech sections.
I work there and I can provide more facts if needed
