There is a fixed number of years service. I can't remember the exact number of years but I think that it's more than 15 years after which the person is retired. That's why it's called short service commission.

I think that bar is Major or there about. That's the highest until retirement. It's different from those that are commissioned through NDA. They don't have any bar.

It happens every time. That said, you need to upgrade yourself too. I am talking from personal experience and that of many people I know.
I came from a humble (not really poor) background. I studied at two federal universities in Nigeria, even worked in Nigeria for some time. My big leap came after I got a funding to do a Ph.D. in the US. From that moment, my social standing improved. I got married to a lady from a "rich" background, with double Ivy-league degrees, who is also a professional.

This would never had happened if I was comfortable with my previous state in Nigeria. My story is not unique. I have seen many similar stories to mine.

By the way, I have never made marrying into a rich family a priority of mine. I would not advise anyone to do so. Just focus on upgrading yourself.

OP, listen to me. As an immigration lawyer, what i am about to tell you is blunt reality. Many countries are tightening their immigration policies even for international students let alone immigrants. Two million naira in today's Nigeria is not more than $1,200. That amount cannot take you anywhere. America is a no-go area. Canada is trying to reduce the influx of immigrants into their country as they are undergoing a housing crisis, The UK has just made more difficult to acquire citizenship in the UK, Australia is far and expensive and Ireland is not that cheap. With the non-english speaking countries, you need to master the language before you can even consider moving there.

Your best bet is getting a remote job with an international company. From there, you can relocate abroad. If your intention is to study abroad, then you need to apply for scholarships. Look for a scholarship that will settle all your costs. Finally, acquire a skill that will make you indispensible to international organizations.

For speaking, don't stop speaking until the examiner asks you to. You won't score less than 7. Reading is the toughest; I usually start from 28-40 before attempting 1-27.

I applied for my passport via DIY online, my payment went through and I set my appointment date to tomorrow 4th April 2025.

Due to some reasons I cannot go for biometrics tomorrow but will make it there by Monday. Will this affect my passport processing negatively in anyway?
