The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered immediate closure of 44 out of the 104 Federal Unity Colleges in the country, due to the recent resurgence of mass abductions of students.

The order was given via a circular issued 21 November 2025 from the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the document, Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa approved the shutdown following “recent security challenges” in some parts of the country, and the need to prevent breaches.

The circular instructed principals of the affected schools to implement the closure without delay.

The 44 schools located in states across the North-West, North-East, North-Central, and parts of the South, are listed below.

Whilst you are right that certain people are egging the pudding on this matter, the targetfing of schools by Terrorists and the closure of unity schools is a concern.

Rules of engagement with terrorists now needs to be altered to a shoot on sight policy. They have upped the ante with targeting education in such a manner.

Its good to hear goodnews of rescued kidnapped victims of Niger and Kwara. Well meaning Nigerians support our security forces to ensure other victims are rescued asap.. esp Kebbi. Our thoughts and prayers to them.

Over 30 states are largely peaceful, less than 6 states of the Federation experiencing the ugly situation which we trust the Security forces to curb this soon as possible.

Security is both FEDERAL, STATE & LOCAL GOVT. responsibility.. Even traditional rulers play a big role in security.
