Buhari stole more than all of them combined

Eight persons, including children, were confirmed killed Wednesday evening in an attack by Boko Haram gunmen on a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) gave the casualty figure in a statement confirming the attack, although eye-witnesses said at least a dozen people died.

The attack on Dalori IDP camp started at about 7p.m. and lasted two hours during which the attackers reportedly overpowered soldiers guarding the camp.

Dalori camp, located few kilometers outside Maiduguri, is considered one of the largest in the state.

Eye-witnesses who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri said they counted up to 12 corpses after the attack.

Solomon Adamu, an official of the Civilian-JTF deployed in the camp, said “a total of 12 persons were killed here and outside the camp.”

“At Gwazari-Kofa, one person was killed, at Dalori IDP Camp II, two persons were killed; and at Bulabulin a village near the camp, nine persons got killed,” he said.

He said the attackers came in seven pickup vans.

“They were about 100 in number and all of them were fully armed. We had to run for our lives.”

NEMA, however, in a statement confirming the attack, said only eight persons died.

There is tension in Taraba State as armed herdsmen and their cattle allegedly occupied and completely destroyed over 750 hectares of a rice farm in Dubale Village of Lau Local Government Area, cultivated by Wal-Wanne Nigeria Limited.

Alhaji Muhammed Musa, the company’s farm coordinator, in a press briefing on Wednesday in Jalingo, lamented that the rice farm had yielded well and harvest was about to commence when the herdsmen brought in about 2,000 cows to occupy and destroy it.

Musa appealed to security operatives to help in arresting the armed herdsmen so as to bring them to book which will serve as a deterrent to others.
He called on the government to compensate the company and other affected farmers in the area in order to keep the hope of ensuring food security alive.
“As a company, we have been farming rice in many states of the federation but we have never witnessed a destruction of this magnitude.
“I am so surprised at the manner in which armed herdsmen move about destroying farms in the state.
Mustapha Mohammed, the farm supervisor, lamented that their dreams of ranking among the highest rice producing companies in the country had been thwarted by the activities of the herdsmen.
He said the much-needed peace and development would continue to elude the country until the authorities summoned the political will to address the menace of herdsmen.

Deputy farm coordinator of the company, Alhaji Adamu Haruna also lamented that herders and cattle were still destroying farms despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives to Nigerians to embrace farming.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to strike out a suit seeking an order compelling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate allegations of corruption against him.

The plaintiff, Bishop Osadolor Ochei, had, on October 28, 2016, petitioned the EFCC asking the commission to investigate some corruption allegations against Oshiomhole as governor of Edo State.

Dissatisfied with EFCC’s alleged refusal to look into the case, Ochei filed the suit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/628/2018 before the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order of mandamus to compel the EFCC to arrest and commence criminal proceedings against Oshiomhole over alleged financial fraud while he was governor of Edo State.

The plaintiff attached to his suit 86 exhibits.

His lawyer, West Idahosa, had told the court that there were documents and electronic pictures of palatial houses credited to the former governor, whose earnings throughout his lifetime, according to the plaintiff, could not have been able to afford.

Idahosa added, among other allegations, that there was evidence of diversion of Edo State funds by Oshiomhole.

He said there were also vouchers of exorbitant air fares that the former governor allegedly incurred.
