"When governments fear the people , there is liberty. When the people fear the government , there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." #Military Democracy don take over! |
Socrates speaks: Without bothering you with unnecessary rhetorics, I make bold to assert that the newly proposed NANS invasion/protest on OAU campus is nothing but another political boondoggle. The success of the protest is longdead. Our problem has always been strategy summersault. The NANS agendum raises more questions than answer. It is quite visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the TIMING and logistics of the gimmicks are erroneous. "You planning to invade my territory and you still have the effontery to send me a notification"You must be running after an illusion. NANS should be informed that the course they intend to champion, a good one it is, but there is need for strategic planning cum effective information management. Our SCIENTIFIC Aluta must continue, For Victory to be ascertained! Thanks dearly. Yours in Struggle #SOCRATES Head of Media & Research, WIKILEAKS. |

@Clockwise, You 'll do us good by giving us a list of those possible solutions or strategies that you as a person will advise the union to adopt. TY, the SU President, is not on exile, who knows whether he is equally following this thread too inorder to buy your beautiful ideas and submissions. What will you advise him to do if he wants to successfully fight the "Pharaoh"? I'm waiting...................! |
@Crosstodds Sequel to your prologue, I'm quoting now, **************************************** "No offense intended bro.Truth be told with no modicum of sentiment, all I read was borne out of the zeal to display grammatical proficiency and literal creativity" - ****************************************** I must say pointedly that that was a direct attack on my personality. Be that as it may, I'll not want to overflog issue here even thou I see it as baseless and a claim which cant be substantiated. Reason being that, the messages in my write-up were well articulated and clear enough even to the man at the bus-stop more reason why you were able to decode it and responded. So, how have I showed my grammatical muscles? Or probably you were expecting me to write the piece in Yoruba language may be by that I wont display any literary weapon as you claimed. ******************************************** *** "bear in mind these fellas we're fighting against are the ones who put us in power and can proscribe us anytime they want willingly"- ******************************************* It behooves me to inform you that it is not within the statory power of the management to dictate nor "put us in power". Students unionism by virtue of.the 1999 constitution as amended is well entrenched in the Federation's constitution. It annoyes me to see youths of nowadays talk this way. "Put us in power and can proscribe us anytime they want willingly" This is an erroneous statement that I never expect from any IFE student. It is a widely known fact that the right to association is an inalienable right of every citizen in any democratic entity which must not be tampered. The leadership of the students union was duely voted into office by the generality of the students not the management. The school management having passed through the same system we are passing one time or the other understood the IMPORTANCE AND POWER of our students union much more than the so-called students, as that it is the only potent platform or confluence in which students aggregate their opinions and decisions. In case you dont know, our school management today once benefitted immensely from the students union as at the time of high radicalism, the likes of Bamitale Omole made used of the students union to protest vehemently for proper welfare of students on campus and against tyrannical military administrators in the '80's. During this periods, despite the students aggressiveness, inspite of the powers wielded on the Kakki men, students were not being victimized compare to the way it is now, infact they were feared for they understood their rights and were ready to defend it to any length. ****************************************** ***"There's more to life than fighting needlessly and pointlessly, wasting your time in school whilst your mates and even your younger ones are making it out there stupendously" ******************************************* Of course, OAU's academic calendar is slower than slow motion, no doubt about that but I know you are not oblivious of the fact that THE RACE IS NOT FOR THE FASTEST BUT FOR THE SMARTEST AND THE FAVOURED ONES. SUCCESS is not measured by the ability to finish before your colleagues but by the ability to receive God's favour before any other person. Thus, peaceful and fast academic calendar must not be substituted for injustice and maladministration. It is unjustifiable for crying out loud. Should we continue to drink colourful and odourful water on campus all in the name of Stable academic calendar? Lets tackle issues and dump frivolities. Injustice is injustice. Why must you shut down the school and also suspend the union activities simply because your students SAID NO TO supply of chocolate water instead of Purified water? These are issues that require emergency attention from FG itself. Everyone wants to grad. on time, nobody wishes to stay a minute longer but I must tell you that the Nigerian system is in a state of commatose. You dont know how HOT and SATURATED it is until you enters into the labour barracks otherwise known as labour market. Graduating on time is good but how do you make a living for yourself after leaving the university. The alarming rate of unemployment is a killer on its own. You need go and see how many UNILORIN students that are currently suffering from the generational disease of JOBLESSNESS. Alas! that very school continues to chunk out nothing less than 10,000 fresh graduates on yearly basis consequently, adding to the unemployment rate in the country. Do you know that on average, Nigerian universities and Polytechnics both Private and Public, often chunk out nothing less than 500,000 graduates on yearly basis? Recently, the FG announced its intention to employ 5,000 jobless graduates as TEACHERS. Isnt that enough for us to ponder over? Pushing a graduate of Mechanical Engineering to classroom tells us that there are no jobs anywhere. The ruling class/politicians are DESTROYING our future via cyphoning of our common treasury and the only response we could give them is to smile in the face of sufferness. O ye YOUTHS! Wake up from your slumber! FREEDOM is not accidental, it must be fought for. Our leaders shall never take us seriously until we ourselves let them realize our stance as regard EDUCATION that it is a life-long legacy which must be well taken care of. But we cant achieve this until we raise our consciousness and drops the euphoria of bagging a B.sc certificate at the age of 16. ###The race is not for the FASTEST BUT THE FAVOURED.### |
I understand your plight and I'm not oblivious of the pain too. I was once a victim of OAU's adaniduro tendency. #Wink# It wont last forever. You 'll definitely get over it. Btw, were you admitted in the first list or via PD? I look forward to seeing you on campus. You shall one day turn a congress man no doubt about that. OAU has a way of processing her students. |
@Darhmmy, and you think students have the right/could be so daft or stupid to embark on strike? Oh! It seems you do not understand the situation of things on campus. Over the years, whenever the management introduces any of her obnoxious policies, the students' union can only react being a pressure group by declaring a lecture boycot which has never in the history of OAU gone beyond 72 hours or to embark on a peaceful protest to press home their demands in which they 'll return back to class immediately after the protest. On no occasion has the students voluntarily announced STRIKE as a way of making a request, it has never happened before. Rather, it has always been the management who because of their unwillingness and non-challant attitude towards the demands of their students always decide to SHUT DOWN the school, infact they wont call it strike as at the point of closing the school, instead, they call it MID-SEMESTER BREAK. The general public needs to be aware of the fact that IFE students does not have the effontery to proclaim STRIKE, it's erroneous. It's the responsibility and administrative power of the management to decide the closure and opening of the school. It's quite unfortunate seeing the people's perception of OAU's students. Whenever there is closure, we tend to blame the students. Dont forget, you all chose OAU because of its greatness, let me tell that her greatness was not by accident, MANY STUDENTS, GENERATIONS OF STUDENTS fought (Academically and Alutally) tiredlessly and painstakingly to earn the laudable grearness, to ensure that IFE did not metamorphos into Unilorin or OOU. |
It's been a frustrating experience for many prospective students no doubt about that. Likewise, it would have been a terrific wait especially to those who are expecting the much-anticipated 2nd batch of admission list. I so much share the pain, I was once in your shoes in last year, didnt see the list not until November, 26 2014 and we had to stay outside the school walls until May 17th, 2017. Having said that, I wouldnt want you to see the staylites as time-wasters so to say. Instead, you should see them as nothing but conscious and undaunting students that will never smile in the face of injustice and maladministration. I have no iota of skepticism to point out here that Great IFE students has never and will never embark on a baseless struggle nor protest. Our struggles have always been the ones that bother on students' welfarism and pro-masses activities. IFE students are known and respected for their unrepentant stance against tyrannical administrators and career saboteaurs. As intellectual minds, we maintained that for a school to record qualitative educational output, the welfare of the students in such school needs to be catered for. We have only said that the school management, having drained the purse of our poor parents, ( analytically, the acceptance fee was increased in 2011 from #2,000 to #20,000, In 2014, this same management brought up a killing 300% increment in school fees making the least payable fee by an average new student to be #90,000. During these life-saving struggles, the school management did not relent in using their oppressive hands on students, measures such as school closure, suspension/victimization of students activists have always been adopted inbring students to their kneels. Alas! we are not even protesting against the feek hike anymore, but we are of the position that if students could pay such an acrimonious fee to get educated then our welfare must be catered for. We are saying that the management of the so-called Africa's most beautiful campus should stop giving us colourful and odourful water as pipe-borne water, that there should be constant power supply, then renovate our collapsing lecture theatres vis-a-vis the construction of new hostels so as to provide more accomodation to cater for the increase in the number of admission seekers. The money collected that ought to have been used in putting in place the lacking amenities, is presently being spent in building a multi million naira 12 storey senate building, having previously built three administrative buildings, abandoning one. These I think are quite understandable even to a road-side mechanic. Alas, the tyrannical school management we've got did not reason along. Instead, they see us as "noise makers" and that our demands are as beautiful as illusions. Instead, they felt the only way they could respond to our demands is by shutting down the school, the only tool that has always been used to SILENCE the students. However, as a clear- headed students' union, every possible means of amplifying our voices have been adopted, including press comferences, interviews, social media platforms among others. Inspite of all these measures, the government is yet to say a word as regard the illegal and unwarranted closure of the school. What could have caused the silence of the educational stakeholders on OAU's crisis and the oppressive actions of her management? Your guess is as good as mine. It's as a result of the non- challant attitude of FG especially the sadists in the office of the Minister of Education, betterstill a conspiracy to between the office of the minister and the University administrators to further loot the education sector rather than ensuring that the sector is repositioned. FG cant tell us that she is not aware of the OAU saga and the misaction of its management to at every point in time resort to frequent closure of the school as if the university is their personal factory which can be closed anytime and opened whenever they wish. Also, considering the rate at which OAU students utilized every media platform both printed and non-printed version, it's more than true that it's only the dead government that can claim not to hear the cries and yarnings of IFE students. At this point in time, to proffer a relative sanity to the situation on ground, the Federal government through the office of the Minister of Education need to come out of its shell and address the OAU saga. This will go along way to restall confidence in the mind of the future leaders, safeguard the fundamental human rights of the citizens and 'll also help to forestall peace and relative continuity in the university. Thus, the non-intervention of Federal government in the on-going crisis may further worsen the situation instead of quenching or betterstill prevent future occurences. I am not a prophet of doom but based on IFE's antecedents, there is high probability that the re-opening of the school by the mgmt without the intervention of the government may mark the preparation for another untold crisis. Our management needs to get it right, that problems can never be solved by oppression or tyranny. It only worsen the situation. A system of oppressive managers and radical followers cannot avoid frequent crisis. #Our demands are meetable and must be me--t. #IFE students refuse to be silenced. #We are not commodities, we are humans! #He who charges heavily must give in return. #SayNOtoTYRANNY #WeCONDEMN every form of Financial maradonism in OAU. #La lucha sigue: Nothing shall discourage us.
