My experience at the immigration office this morning in Abeokuta
I got to the office around 12:30pm I met the officers( all female officers) and I told them I’m here to submit my documents because my appointment date for capturing is 30th of august and they said okay I should meet one of the female officers to attend to me ...To cut the story short they told me all the documents I need to present then I brought them out..They said I will need to buy a file, a small envelope and I will have to write an application letter which I did from one of the business centers ( they already have the formats, Just give them your passport) so getting back to the office after printing my application letter , the officer that was attending to me now said I can’t get the 30th of august that was stated on my appointment letter that I will get the middle of September..I was like wow don’t you follow the printout, she said she has the final say that it’s what she write on the file that they will treat ...I was like this is serious ooo... I told her how I was in a rush to get my passport done and she said what do I want her to do for me...Then I told her I want my own appointment date gangan ...That was when she said I should speak the language that she will understand...I already knew where she was helding to but I was still pretending...That was when she openly told me that I have to pay 5k so I can get my date...And she showed me files with 5k each in it ...That was when I had to cooperate too cos if I want to go strong head she will do what she wants to do...
Nigeria shall be great someday

It seems there's a different batch of interviewers for the second week. I really don't understand the incorrigibility of Nigerian lecturers. It sucks that students have to learn from masochists who actively derive gratification from their failure. I think that's a very important dichotomy between Nigerian Institutions and that of other countries. Lecturers there want you to succeed. However, as far as this interview goes, you should be more concerned with the person entering the grades and it seems in your case it was the more affable panelist so hopefully he was considerate. I'm sure by then he would've known how truculent the prof was. Have a little bit of faith.

For me, It was the opposite. I wanted a two man panel, got the most feared three man panel at the center because of a notorious professor I overheard someone being warned about. I went in, I was polite, so were they. The professor was very quiet and seemed impressed but I'm slightly worried because the main panelist grading the interview was not very engaged. I spoke, they listened with very little push back and we had a very amiable discussion about a variety of issues in the energy sector. Not to draw the ire of the anti north conspiracy theorists here but we even spoke a bit of Hausa at their instigation.

At the end of the day I'm okay with the whole thing, it could've been slightly better because I didn't get to say everything I wanted to before being interrupted by new questions but it could've been a lot worse. In fact, the spontaneously assured me that the interview went well but so did that of many others in many centers around the country so I took it with a pinch of salt. We exchanged pleasantries and I left. A friend who got the scholarship told me as long as your programme is related to energy, they just want to hear how articulate you are. Like you, I have resigned myself to destiny. I have my CAS ready, and I have my contingencies ready. I'm prepared for whatever outcome.

Don't know about your centre and panelists thou but for me and the panelists all of them were doing the grading ..

In Summary, the action and attitude of one of the panelist yesterday was very bad. I know this for the following reason

1. Even if Prof. wasn't satisfied or convinced, he doesn't need to behave like the Nigeria lecturer that I was running away from. It behooves on him to remain calm, listen more, advice, recommend and suggest good ways to do the same. This is what is called constructive criticism. But it's common among Nigerians to look down on others especially when he/she thinks he's in a higher position. In 2017, I was a member of the World Bank Consultancy Project on Nigeria electricity issues, I interviewed all the heads of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Company (NBET), the government agency that manages the production and distribution of electricity. So when Prof. was busy talking anyhow, he has no understanding of what is going on in the Generation side (GenCo) and distribution side (DisCo). He was just full of himself which was very bad.

2. Panelists should have an open mind. Of course in such scholarship, it's possible to see some weird ideas but this is 21st century, everything is possible and impossibility only exist in the mind. Someone who sits in such panel should be open to things he doesn't know, he should also be open to innovations and to learn too. One thing you will see abroad from lecturers is their humility. Irrespective of their years of experience, they are very humble and this is why they have good lecturer to student relationship. Prof. was everything a lecturer shouldn't be.

Yesterday, I didn't feel bad because of his possible grading (it means nothing to me, I know that the concept of winning and losing very well), but the entire process and the country having such kind of lecturers. While he was busy criticizing what he doesn't understand, I was busy pitying his students and imagining what it's like being mentored by people like this.

My own prof and the panelists doesn't know what pigging is all about and to even think of it that they don't even understand what artificial intelligent is capable of doing despite the explanation... They just believe you can't do it because you are not copying paper or textbook page to page.... We need to reshape our higher education lecturers

I have to share my interview experience, it was bad, I mean very bad but wasn't my fault anyway.

So I went in to meet a 2-man panel. They were of course other panels having 3 persons but when it was my turn, it was the panel with 2 persons that were empty and had requested for an applicant. I was feeling lucky believing I had 2 persons to deal with without knowing it was a bad omen for me. grin grin grin

So they checked all my documents, everything was fine, I had everything with me, but not the panelist. So when it was time for me to present, all hell broke loose. I couldn't believe they were people in this generation and a professor in that matter that haven't heard of nuclear. The very moment I mentioned Nuclear (it doesn't matter how I want to apply the nuclear), he stopped me and said "Nuclear in this Nigeria??" The professor was a very old man with little or no knowledge of the current research. I mentioned the use of Monte Carlo Neutron Transport Codes, but he head of only Monte Carlo and chuckled, saying it was what they used 40-50 years ago shocked shocked Haba, Prof. Calm down and listen nah, but he wasn't having any of it.

I mentioned nuclear waste management, and cleaning of oil spillage, he interrupted me and questioned how can I be mentioning nuclear waste in energy management. He even questioned if nuclear has waste? Jesus, I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. grin grin It was very funny anyway.

So that was how it went yesterday. It was bad with Prof. But then you don't blame him, Prof. didn't believe Ajaokuta steel can work, he said I should forget about what the government was saying that its a scam and just a consultancy project. He was very proud, but I reminded him that the reason why Geregu powerplant was sited very close to Ajaokuta was to supply electricity to the plant. I told him everything he needs to be convinced but then, his mind was made up and I can't change that. Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

He said the only thing that the government should do is to produce energy from Gas, and that Gas is a clean source of energy. We went to Germany where he mentioned that they shut down all their reactors and I told him that they were importing 34% of their electricity demand from France, he said it wasn't true, I told him it was and that the internet is there for him to check. And now asked him what he thinks Germany will do now with the Ukraine Was and stoppage of the gas flow, he got the point anyway.

Well, it was bad with Prof. but the second guy was amazed though openly didn't want to disagree with Prof. manner, so when Prof. went to fetch his tea, we had a good discussion and he even told me to wait and greet Prof. before I leave.

In summary, it wasn't smooth but then, there is nothing to worry about. If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

You were in Abuja yesterday?

Many people don't have luck regarding all these professors yesterday... Nothing seems to be possible with them

My observation from Abuja centre yesterday

1. The grading system seems different from the MSc

2. The panelists seems to just resumed that yesterday for the work and some of them are professor from the university

3. Patent is considered and not publications

4. Maximum of 5 professional certifications

May success be ours

The Appgallery may not be as equipped with apps as the play store but, it is a very promising challenger in the game of app stores. That being said, the only down in using Huawei device for now is the lack of core Google apps like the GMS, Drive, Maps, etc. However, key and popular appsike WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Facebook, twitter, Yahoo Mail, Meriam Webster Dictionary, bank Apps, etc are readily available on the Appgallery. Also, the use of Google mail is very possible with the e-mail app that comes pre-installed on Huawei devices.

With the devices coming at a very competitive price, I will recommend it to anybody without a doubt.

Thanks for your response brother..

What can you say about the durability and spare parts incase of damage?

Is it economical? Meaning does it easily get damage (screen)?
