Daring Nigerian robbers have sent an audacious letter to Lambe residents in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, begging them for a warm welcome when they strike in their community in the coming days. The robbers said in the letter, written in Yoruba language and pasted on many walls and streets, that they are coming ‘very soon’ and are not afraid of the police or other security agencies. “If you like, inform the police or your security men or OPC, you will just lose your lives,” they warned. Describing themselves as friends of the residents in Lambe community, the robbers called on them to get ready for their arrival and cooperate with them. “You residents of this area be prepared to receive your friends very soon. If you like, inform the police or your security men or OPC, you will just lose your lives. What is important is to cooperate with us and to get ready to give us a warm welcome,” the robbers said in the short letter. The letter written by robbers The letter ends with these words: “We your friends, robbers”. The letter, written in Yoruba language, was pasted on many walls on Akin Akindele, Community Road and Jelili Popoola Streets. Panic and confusion have enveloped the community with a resident describing Lambe as ‘the playground of armed robbers.’ “Lambe has become the play ground of armed robbers. Incessant robbery attacks have forced landlords to flee the area and are now tenants in other places,” he said, pleading that his name should not be mentioned. Landlords and tenants in the area are so confused that they do not know what to do and are prepared for the worst. When P.M.NEWS visited the area, many of the residents were so petrified that they refused to speak. A resident, who did not, like all others, want his name disclosed, said he will not inform the police as there might be mass killings. “Besides, the police and the OPC cannot be trusted because they may be aware of their coming and will not do anything,” he said. A female resident said her family will leave the place this week. She said her family needs money to celebrate Easter. She explained that the residents are worried because of the lack of security in Nigeria. She revealed that none of the residents wants to talk about it because “the robbers might be living among us.” “ I have warned my husband to stay away from this matter because you do not know who is who in the area, “she said. Another resident told P.M.NEWS that since they saw the letter, most residents do not sleep again in the night and the landlords and tenants are afraid to even inform the police or talk about it because those behind the letters could be among them. P.M.NEWS gathered that one of suspects behind the impudent letters was arrested in the night at about 1.00 am and handed over to the police at Ajunwo Police Division. When our reporter visited the station, the DPO was not around to comment on the matter. Police said they were not aware of the arrest and sent our reporter to the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi who did not return our calls CULLED FROM pm news http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/03/27/we-are-coming-for-you-robbers-write-residents/

addey: I f you want to know you have been under-dispensed in the fuel filling station.nope that is the not the way it work man, there is no any filling station you will get 100% of what you are buying ,even DPR and weight and measure give them tolerance of o.5liters in every 20 litre you are buying , which is negligible , but the seller turn it up to the tune of 2 litres from 20litres, so for every 20 litres you are buying you get 18litres in most filling stations some cases are worse more than this, the reduction might be done electronically or manually turning the meter , but you will never know from the reading on the display board. |

This sound crazy and funny but it is one of those things that happen in naija The Witches and Wizards Association of Nigeria (WITZAN), has deployed 500 witches to Abuja and other parts of Ahead of Nigeria to prevent any tragic occurrence and ensure peaceful inauguration on May 29. According to its national co-ordinator, Dr Okhue Iboi, the decision was taken after an emergency meeting at Zuma rock, Niger State. WITZAN also warned President Goodluck Jonathan to take adequate security as bad people and disgruntled politicians are planning to cause problems. Iboi, however, disclosed that the nation would soon have a respite from the people currently throwing bombs all over the places as they would be exposed: “We are going to expose those sponsoring bomb blasts in the country after May 29. They have been caged already. We are going to use our power to cause them to come out and confess their misdeeds. Nigerians would be surprised at how the saboteurs would be exposed.” He said it was revealed to the witches as far back as last year that no other candidate except Jonathan would rule the nation. The association which also predicted the failure of both former military president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and vice president Atiku Abubakar in their presidential quests also disclosed that Jonathan would serve his four-year tenure at the end of which Nigerians would be begging him to go for another term because he has been chosen by God to lead the nation. Iboi, however, warned Jonathan to beware of sycophants, while warning the incoming ministers and advisers to co-operate with the president and discharge their duties with dedication. The witches warned former Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) to stop wasting his time pursuing the presidency: “Buhari should stop wasting his time because his time is past. He can never rule the nation again. His time is gone.” The incoming National Assembly will deliver. This is the time Nigerians will know that they have real legislators. “Some people look at us as if we are evil minded people. Not all witches are bad. Our own type of witchcraft is progressive. We are willing to intervene in the affairs of the country anytime the government decides to seek our counsel. We have the solutions to bring lasting peace to the country. Witches and wizards in the country are ready to help restore Nigeria’s lost glory. “We saw June 12 crisis long before it happened and we warned the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola but he ignored us. Abiola would have been Nigeria’s president but some of us decided to punish him over the role he played in scuttling the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo presidential ambition. We warned him not to waste his time and life. This was reported in some national dailies. We also dealt with the late General Sani Abacha for the execution of the late Ken Saro-Wiwa.” |
The Senate on Tuesday passed the amendment to the National Minimum Wage Act by approving N18,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers both in the public and private sectors. This was even as the Senate hinted of a possible amendment to the constitution to get the issue of wages removed from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list. Following the amendment made to Section 1 of the Bill, it shall be the duty of every employer except as provided for under the Principal Act as amended to pay a wage not less than the national minimum wage of N18,000 per month to every worker under its establishment. The increase in the national minimum wage was done in 2004 to increase it from N5,000 to N7,500 just as President Goodluck Jonathan announced an increase to N18,000 last year. In his presentation of the Bill for third reading, Senate Majority Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, noted that the Bill was read the first time on Wednesday, February 9, adding that the revision of the Act brought about a realistic penalty regime for violations of the Act. Senator Folarin also recommended the alteration of the constitution to ensure the delisting of the minimum wage clause from the legislative exclusive list and listing it on the concurrent list, stressing that such an amendment would allow both the federal and state governments the free hands to negotiate wage increase matters with their workers separately as part of measures aimed at strengthening the nation’s fiscal federalism. According to Senator Folarin: “The passage of this Bill will definitely improve the quality of life of the Nigerian workers and indeed the Nigerian society in the following ways: (i) It is an important motivation for increased productivity of workers; (ii) It will improve the quality of life of workers and their dependants; (iii) It will reduce the incidence of brain drain from the public service to the private sector; (iv) It will bring about industrial peace and harmony in the work place.” Senators, however, had diverse opinions as to suggestion that the minimum wage be varied between the federal and state governments. In his contribution to the debate before the passage of the Bill, Senator Smart Adeyemi (PDP Kogi) said the N18,000 minimum recommended was too low when compare to the amount of resources accruing to the federal and state governments. Senator Adeyemi, therefore, submitted that all states are in a position to pay the minimum wage if they stopped the mismanagement of resources due to them even as he recommended life sentence for leaders convicted for corruption charges. Speaking in similar vein, Senator Ahmed Lawan (ANPP Yobe), said the minimum wage of N18,000 was still small in view of prevailing market forces, adding that besides increasing the minimum wage, Nigerian workers should be retrained to ensure that the increase in wage wasguaranteed by improved performance. However, Senator Anyim Ude (PDP Ebonyi) urged his colleagues to ensure that an enabling environment was created that would enable the states pay what they could afford. |
Nigerian security operatives on Sunday said a bomb blast attempt by an unknown person during a Church service in northeast Bauchi State was averted. State police commissioner Muhammad Indabawa and Adeola Ajayi, the Director of State Security Services (SSS), separately disclosed this at news conferences in Bauchi on Sunday. Ajayi said an unknown bomber had gone to the United Methodist Church (UMC), opposite the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, during a Church service and dropped a bag which contained the improvised explosive in the Church. The SSS boss said a member of the Church who saw the man with the bag trying to leave the Church after he dropped it, raised an alarm while church members run after him but could not arrest him. The man, the SSS chief added, had rushed to the motorcyclist who brought him to the Church and escaped to an unknown destination. Efforts by the police to arrest the suspect did not yield result as he had escaped, using the commercial motorcycle. The explosive device, which was made with a metal casing, was jointly detonated by officers and men of the SSS and police. Ajayi said investigation had started but appealed to the public to provide the security agents with relevant information that would ensure the security of lives and property. Indabawa, at a news conference, said following the receipt of the information from the church leaders, SSS personnel and some bomb experts attached to Governor Isa Yuguda detonated the explosive. He said the experts said if the bomb had exploded, it would have killed many people and destroyed many properties. The police chief urged the people to be more vigilant and report any suspected person to security operatives. |

Security agents have intercepted 15 containers of dangerous weapons illegally imported into the country. Daily Sun gathered that the illicit cargo, which contained rocket launchers, mortar bombs, small light arms and ammunition, were impounded at the Apapa Port in Lagos. The containers had a Bill of Laden indicating that the contents were building materials, but a search by the State Security Service (SSS) officials revealed they were arms and ammunition. Confirming the discovery, Assistant Director, Public Relations of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar did not disclose if any arrest had been made. She said a thorough investigation had begun with a view to unraveling those behind the illegal importation. A police source also confirmed that the 15 containers were laden with mortar bombs, AK 47 rifles and ammunition. The source said immediately the containers were discovered, all relevant agencies were informed. As at press time, a combined team of Army, Navy, Police, SSS, National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and Customs Service were still inspecting the containers. Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo and the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Anti-Bomb Unit, Mr. Chris Olakpe were also at the port. The area had been cordoned off while operatives were still inspecting the containers. A senior police officer said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Hafiz Ringim had ordered that the Lagos State command, Anti Bomb Unit and the Port Police command should remain at the scene till further directives. When Daily Sun visited the scene, the Nigerian Navy were seen moving in equipment to the scene to secure the cargo. Also, the Federal and Lagos State fire fighters were moving in fire equipment to the scene for safety. The senior police officer, who spoke to Daily Sun said for security reasons, the source of the arms and ammunition was being kept under wraps so as not to mar investigations. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2010/oct/27/national-27-10-2010-001.htm |
•Adamu Photo: Sun News Publishing * More Stories on This Section FIFA Ethics Committee, under the chairmanship of Claudio Sulser, Wednesday, provisionally suspended, with immediate effect, two members of the FIFA Executive Committee Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii from participating in any football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other). The suspension was slammed after the hearing of the committee, examining their cases on the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. The Ethics Committee considered that a provisional suspension was required, while the investigation continues, taking into account the gravity of the case and the likelihood that a breach of the FIFA Statutes, the FIFA Code of Ethics and the FIFA Disciplinary Code had been committed. Furthermore, the Ethics Committee examined the cases of four officials – Slim Aloulou, Amadou Diakite, Ahongalu Fusimalohi and Ismael Bhamjee – also in relation to an alleged breach of the FIFA Statutes, the FIFA Code of Ethics and the FIFA Disciplinary Code linked to the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. The committee also decided to suspend the four officials provisionally from participating in any football-related activity. FIFA opened proceedings against the two Executive Committee members on 18 October 2010 and requested the Ethics Committee to conduct an independent, in-depth investigation into the matter. The Ethics Committee will meet again in mid-November 2010 to take a final decision on the matter after gathering more information and evidence on the six cases. "The decision to provisionally suspend the officials is fully justified and should not be put in question. The evidence that has been presented to us today has led us to take this provisional measure, as we considered that the conditions were definitely met to take this decision and we deem that it is crucial to protect the integrity of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup bidding process. We are determined to have zero tolerance for any breach of the Code of Ethics," said the Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Claudio Sulser. Finally, and again at the request of FIFA, the Ethics Committee decided to open an investigation into alleged agreements between member associations and their Bid Committees in relation to the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup bidding process, something which would also be a violation of the Bid Registration document and the Code of Ethics. A decision on the case will also be taken by the Ethics Committee at its meeting in mid-November, following a thorough investigation

The remains of ex-minister of education, Prof. Babs Fafunwa, were buried on Tuesday evening in Lagos, amid wailing by family members and sympathisers. Fafunwa, 87, had died on Monday morning at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja, a day after he and he and his wife had travelled to the Federal Capital Territory for the second convocation of the National Open University of Nigeria. At the burial, which was witnessed by prominent Nigerians such as Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and former inspector-general of police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, encomiums were poured on the departed former minister by various persons. The body was conveyed to his Bendel Close, Victoria Island residence at 12.35pm in a hearse by MIC Undertakers and was laid in state in the premises at about 3.30pm. The body was later taken to Jamatul Islamiyya Mosque on Lagos Island, where scores of sad sympathisers had gathered to witness the prayers for the departed educationist. Many of the sympathisers were overhead discussing the life and times of the late former minister. Prayers were said for the repose of his soul at the mosque. The Chief Missioner of Jamatul Islamiyya Mosque, Alhaji Kamaldeen Shuaibu, who officiated at the prayers, urged Nigerians to emulate Fafunwa’s exemplary qualities. He urged them to realise that “people have come at different times and will go at different times. What matters most is that people should be prepared fully for such, especially with zealous service for God.” Later, at Ikoyi Cemetery, the Executive Secretary of Muslim Ummah in South-West Nigeria, Prof. Daudu Noibi, urged people to reflect deeply on the lessons of life. He said he saw the late Fafunwa in Lagos on Saturday, adding that the former minister told him of the trip to Abuja. The former minister was buried by 5pm amid wailing by the large crowd. In the condolence register perused by THE PUNCH at Fafunwa’s residence, Fashola wrote, “Fafunwa was a true icon who lived among us. He was a gift of Lagos to our country and the continent as a whole. He served with honour and dedication. “Indeed, it is ironic that as an octogenarian, he did not tire to serve and finally answered the call while still serving.” In his tribute, Tinubu described the ex-minister as “an accomplished and more rounded educationist; a contemporary Nigerian. It is a big pity that his lofty dreams of how education in Nigeria should be had remained unattained. Sincerely speaking, he ran a good race. Now, he should have a deserved rest.”
