The international community could mean any well meaning country or coalition with the will and the expertise to tackle the problem. Not necessarily the USA

This is like calling for a coup, and is rather shameful!
No it's not shameful.

Government is supposed to win the confidence of its citizens in matters like this but it's clear that they can't win the confidence of the people in this security matter.

Don't use this worn out blackmail of 'coup' for people who just want to survive and preserve their life in a failed state where human life has become an expendable commodity.

As long as there's an international community and this country remains a member of it, there's nothing wrong in requesting help to stem the lethal trend.

Let's be reasonable.

But we had that in the past!

It was called the Oyo Mesi.

A council of powerful chiefs and traditional priests that would be watching you like hawks if you are the Oba.

Any sign of nonsense or corruption from you, and then would send you an AROKO message (message of objects) featuring an order for you to commit suicide, or be sent to the great beyond by force!!

Of course this system if re-adopted, will be less harsh than olden times, as per the king, but it can still work.. undecided

Then again, the reason they ordered him to commit suicide was to prevent him from plotting against the new king..... wink
Usually the king would be given a covered calabash with a parrot's egg inside.
Once the king opens the calabash and sees the egg his soul is taken. tongue

I get several complaints like this on a monthly basis and I usually tell them always get a second opinion on serious life long diagnosis like hiv.

If possible, travel to another diagnosis centre a d repeat the test.

A pregnant mother thrown out by her husband can't thank me enough after giving birth, she went to repeat the test at UCH Ibadan

The rest is history

Let him not be discouraged. It doesn't always work on the first try. There are some huddles to cross for a successful IVF.
I have many instances, where IVF was successful on the first attempt.
In fact, the more the attempts the higher the chance of failure.
It's really wonderful when IVF works on the first trial.

But unfortunately many centres are not really doing the utmost best to ensure success on the first trial.

Take the IVF pre assessment/suitability Questionnaire
And get an idea of the probability for successful outcome before embarking.

So what do you suggest they do?
Before the procedure, every clinic will get you to sign a consent form. Terms and conditions are attached.
So you will know all the risks involved, financial and physical before proceeding.

let them get surrogate mother na
Surrogacy is a matter of renting a womb from a younger woman. The egg may or may not belong to the intending mother.

Surrogacy is recommended in cases where the woman has a damaged womb.
Absent womb (Hysterectomy)

Or the woman is extremely advanced in age

or suffering from a chronic illness which precludes pregnancy.

Not every couple is emotionally prepared to go down the route of donor egg/ Surrogacy. In Nigeria here, most specialist will tell any woman 38 years or older to get an egg donated.

The sperm of the husband , if suitable may be used but genetically the resulting babies are not related to the woman.
It's a hard pill to swallow for some couples, other couples are just too desperate to care and proceed with egg donation.

I will advise any intending couple TTC to take this survey before making any hasty decision about IVF treatment.

This issue popped up in my head yesterday. I have a question to ask though. Is the success rate here the same with what is obtainable abroad?
My good friend who has been TTC for years and has gone through a lot of process with no luck traveled to the UK with the wife and boom! They had triplets! Though I can't say for sure if they did IVF here in Nigeria, but at some point they just relaxed.
Cc: confidentialdoc
Success rate really depends on the clinic and the expertise of the specialist. A specialist in FESTAC Lagos may actually have a solid track record compared to a consultant in Birmingham UK.

It isn't really about equipment. It's about protocol and best practices. Some specialist are just so good at this compared to others. Irrespective of location.

That's very sad to hear. As much as IVF success rates have improved over the years, there are times results don't go as expected. Some IVF clinics do give discounts to returning couples especially after failed IVF.
Yes some clinics do offer discounts on repeats but with the rising cost of drugs and materials, those kind of offers are now diminishing.

My neighbor's younger brother and wife just lost 3.5 million naira to a round of failed IVF.
They are devastated.

They've been trying to conceive naturally 7 years now until a family friend out of good intentions directed them to a IVF specialist with a good track record.

After several investigations, physical examinations, scans, injections, pills, supplements. The resulting embryos did not do well in-utero.

And that was 3.5 million naira gone with the ocean breeze....

No free repeat cycle,no refund.
Quite an unpleasant development.
