This is without doubts the greatest Computing device in the world! The all-new 27-inch iMac with 5k retina display was today announced at the Apple event currently going on at Cupertino. This technology revolution features a 14.7 million pixels for the finest display of details and projected on an awesome 27-inch display; a display only 5mm at its edges and the iMac device is fully incorporated with a computing unit of the highest sophistication.

Personally, I am quite fascinated by the ergonomic and advanced design of this technology by Apple. It’s one of the reasons I admire Apple (and of course Samsung) – Innovation! Apple is obviously the definition of technology. The only concern I have is pricing, Apple products, even though of great quality, are more or less elitists’ equipment. But, it seems they are starting to get the ‘gists’ with the recent announcement of a slash in the prices of the iPads (earlier versions).

PhonesRe: Sharp Aquos Crystal 'edge-less' Smartphone! by coolakins(op): 6:34pm On Oct 14, 2014

nice design i must say

PhonesSharp Aquos Crystal 'edge-less' Smartphone! by coolakins(op): 1:33am On Oct 14, 2014
The Japanese electronics giant Sharp has just revolutionised the design of smartphones with the latest release of an edge-less (or bezel-free) Android smart device. The high point of the Sharp Aquos Crystal is its striking square shaped bezel-free design, with its IPS display running edge-to-edge. While the front-facing camera (1.2MP) and ambient sensor are positioned at the lower part of the device’s front panel. No physical buttons are present on the front and right sides of the phone. However, the power button and 3.5mm jack port are located on the top side, while the volume rockers are situated on the left side and a primary microphone and USB port are located on the bottom side of this impressive piece. It also features the speaker and a secondary mic at the back for active noise cancellation and HD Voice, eliminating background noises.
The Aquos Crystal smartphone is built of fine glossy or shiny plastic finish on the front panel and around the edges, while the back panel is of smooth dimple feel. The device has a body dimension of 5.16x2.64x0.39 Inches, sporting a 5-inch IPS display at resolution of 720x1280 pixels (294ppi - pixel per inch detailed resolution). It is powered by Snapdragon 400, Quad-core Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1.5GB RAM and 8GB ROM (internal storage – expandable up to 128GB via SDCard). The specs are mid-range but design is simply breathe-taking!
The sleek phone sports an 8MP rear camera capable of 1080p video capture at 30fps, enhanced audio production with Harman Kardon (audio designer) Clari-Fi and LiveStage technology with a fantastic music app UI. Other features include – 3G/4G LTE/Enhanced 4G and wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi hotspot, Mobile ID suites (for apps, ringtones and wallpapers personalised functionality) etc.
The uniquely designed edge-less smartphone runs Android 4.4.2 ‘near-stock’ KitKat and is available in two colour variants – while and black and powered by an efficient 2040mAh battery. The phone is priced at $149.99 on contract from Boost Mobile and Sprint in the US and available at $230 off contract.
The only heart-break I personally have about the one-of-its-kind device is the fact that IT’S A CDMA phone with NO GSM NETWORK SUPPORT! May be I can use this medium to urge Sharp electronics to consider making the GSM versions available and globally as well, we definitely want to have a feel of it in Nigeria alike... PhonesKitkat 4.4.4 Successfully Ported To Galaxy S3 (I9300 Int’l Version) by coolakins(op): 9:23am On Oct 06, 2014
Three members (Korean Developers) of the XDA-Developers – Arter97 (Park Ju Hyung), sktjdgns1189 (Ra Sung Hun) and JustArchi have been able to port successfully official Touchwiz Android KitKat 4.4.4 earlier released by Samsung to Samsung Galaxy S3 SHV-E210S (Korean version with 2GB) to the Samsung Galaxy S III I9300 International version. The Korean developers were able to debloat, de-KNOXed, Deodexed and uncompressed the Samsung custom UIs to lighten KitKat OS and able to deploy on the Galaxy I9300.
This is coming on the heels of earlier statements by Samsung that the Galaxy I9300 would not be receiving an official update of android KitKat to the users of the international version due to its 1GB RAM size, which they claim is insufficient to smoothly run the OS on the device.

PhonesRe: Review Of Windows 10 Technical Preview by coolakins(op): 2:33pm On Oct 03, 2014
texazzpete: Nice write up, but there's some misleading info in the OP.

No indication that this version of Windows is 'heavier' than Windows 8.1. This is purely the OP's opinion.

It is also an extremely early look at Windows 10. Numerous tech blogs have been told by Microsoft that this first look only contains about 10% of the new consumer facing features planned for W10. Stuff like Cortana are not in this release.

There will be loads of UI changes in the months to come. MS says there's still a lot to be done concerning the UI, icons, fonts etc.

The OP should be giving an 'impression' and not a 'Review' at this early stage.
From first hand user experience, yes I can tell its heavier & also from the download size. Windows 8.1 is 3.62GB compared to test version of Windows 10 @ 3.81GB (this is not unusual if we all desire the 'change', its okay).
I like your contribution. Thank you!

dasdexter: can u install it as a dual boot btw win8, i don't intend to upgrade from win8, i want a clean install, while still keeping my win8 ?
To be honest, am not sure. I didn't try that but I heard complain that it couldn't be installed as Dual boot, it gave errors....
PhonesReview Of Windows 10 Technical Preview by coolakins(op): 7:29am On Oct 03, 2014
It is in the public awareness already that the Windows 10 has finally restored the conventional and unique Windows Menu for easy access and more user friendliness. In the process to finalise the build of the Windows 10, Microsoft recently released (today) a technical preview of the operating system for Computer Enthusiasts to experience and make useful contributions towards it complete development and final launch.
I personally downloaded and installed the Windows 10 Technical Preview via the Windows Insider Program. Here is my take on the features and usability. The downloadable ISO image file is about 3.81GB (available in English, English – United Kingdom, Chinese etc.) and its installation straight forward, can be installed as an upgrade (maintaining personal settings and data) or clean installation (deleting previous files). The total installation duration took about 2:30hrs, subjective though, depending on the capacity of the host PC.
One of the most prominent features of the Windows 10 is return of the START MENU and this time it’s more improved and re-sizable with Vertical, Horizontal Orientations achieved with a drag of the mouse at the edge of the menu pane to the desire orientation (quite flexible and interesting). The Start Menu also features, a list of recently opened apps (with more sub-menu of files previously worked on). Above that, is a list of Documents, Pictures, PC Settings and File Explorer folders for quicker and more convenient access. Towards the bottom is a link to all applications installed on the PC.
Applications on the Start Menu can be dragged and dropped on the ‘tile’ side of the menu or right-clicked to PIN TO START MENU which can also be re-sized. Other shortcut menu options include - PIN TO TASK BAR, REMOVE FROM THE LIST etc.)
Another unique feature of the Windows 10 is the TASK VIEW button and MULTIPLE DESKTOP SUPPORT. The Task View button enables user to call up apps or tasks currently open and allows you switch in-between tasks or better still ADD NEW DESKTOP (a new desktop environment sporting a line marker differentiating apps/tasks opened in a different desktop area).
Improved App window with the TITLE BAR feature, RE-SIZING BUTTONS) and the new APP COMMANDS (“ellipses” menu) expanded to
further increase exploration using the – SEARCH, SHARE (Facebook, Twitter, Mail, One Note etc.), PLAY, PRINT, PROJECT (projection display modes), SETTINGS (app settings, permission and security) and FULL SCREEN options.
The Windows 8 Start Menu (Start Screen) is interestingly still being maintained but hidden at first, allowing you to boot straight to your desktop area. I personally love the display of the Windows 8 Start Menu delighted is still maintained.
The menu can be prompted to display from the TASK BAR’s properties (a click on the Start Menu tab and un-check the “Use the start menu instead of start screen”) and you are required to sign out and in again to have it active.
Slight change of appearance of a few icons as well could not go unnoticed i.e. 'This Computer', 'Network' etc.
Other observations - No more horizontal task view of running tasks peeked when point to the top left corner. No more Charms.
No change for now on the WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, Explorer etc. I believe a few changes and tweaks will be made on other areas necessary in the final release. Overall, it’s a pleasant and very convenient to use but of course, it’s a little heavier (compared to 8.1) could come with a bit of lag.

It features a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410, Quad-core processor (Cortex-A53) clocked at 1.2GHz for the LTE and Dual-core 1.2GHz for the 3G. A 5MP (2592x1944) rear camera with autofocus and LED flash is available on both Ace devices and also with front-facing camera – VGA on the 3G and 1.3MP on the LTE variant.
Lithium battery capacity of 1900mAh will be dispensing backup power on the LTE while a 1500mAh battery is obtainable on the 3G version. A snippet of the device high end specs - 4.5-inch IPS display at resolution of 1440x1440 (453ppi high pixel density for a more detailed display). It is powered by a Snapdragon processor 800 (Socket-on-Chip), 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage with nano SIM card support.
The uniqueness of the device comes in its square shape (booklet) design which actually draws attention on first sight and its improved operability in terms of application software enhancements i.e. enhanced reading feature, which supposedly allows you flip between pages like a book etc. Personally curious to see its performance in the market when its finally release and level of acceptance it will muster amongst die-hard blackberry fans and potential users alike.

I suspect this could be a battery issue. Try testing it with a spare battery to see how it works....
