You better wake up and face reality. Only the national assembly can restructure Nigeria

The entire South only has about 39% of the votes of the national assembly compared to the Norths 61%. Just the core North, NW&NE, have almost 50%.

How will anyone get restructuring with that? Not possible

If the North or even just the core North say no to restructuring, and you can bet they will, it is dead.
...and what would the southern leaders do...?

There must be a way to bring the parasitic north who got more numbers due to military rule... to the bargining table?

The north said restructuring will affect their interest. How huh

The other day they said Nigeria cannot do without the north. How huh

The have been in power for more than 40 years and the south especially the SE has been held down so they could catch up, yet there is nothing in sight to show they will catch up.

Why must we wait for Abuja to revive the coal industry in the east or to repair the roads, or rebuild the Niger bridge, or build a befitting Internation airport?

Agreed.

Emmanuel Addeh in Yenagoa

In what could easily pass for one of the single largest gatherings of ethnic nationalities in recent times, leaders drawn from the Niger Delta, South West, South East and the Middle Belt, converged on Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, to drive home their demand for immediate restructuring of the Nigerian Federation.

Most of those who spoke highlighted the need for the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, to expedite action and begin the process of renegotiating the current federal structure, or on the alternative, allow the country to drift by allowing the status quo.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is currently on a mission to Sierra Leone as an election observer in that country, in a prepared speech read on his behalf by Senator Nimi Barigha Amange, maintained that the 2014 confab report spearheaded by him remains the most inclusive roadmap to pulling Nigeria from the brink.

Some other leaders from all parts of the country, except the ‘core north’ who were present during the event organised by the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) were: elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark; President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo Jnr, and a chieftain of the pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae; former governor of Plateau state, Senator Jonah Jang; Leader of the middle belt group, Dr. Bala Takaya; Senator Stella Omu, Walter Ofonagoro, Asari Dokubo and representatives of governors from the region also spoke during the event.

Recalling the efforts he made as President to change the current trajectory of the country, Jonathan said: “I am delighted that Nigerians of various ages, classes and trade and of diverse faith and different zones are showing deep commitment to this spirit-lifting debate towards arriving at a practical and acceptable solution that will guarantee a better future for our country and our hardworking citizens.

“I am even more delighted that this geopolitical zone, the Niger Delta is quite upbeat about the public consultation and debate going on across the country. This is heart-warming because it’s a pointer to the fact that the Niger Delta has come a long way from the time of unease and militancy to the present situation where the people of the zone can gather to hold a peaceful dialogue and conversation on how best to move our federation forward”.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, on Saturday confirmed that the Boko Haram terrorists was set to release Leah Sharibu, the only Christian Schoolgirl still in captivity.

IGP Idris made the revelation while speaking to reporters in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

“I was suppose to be in Dapchi today but I couldn’t go because l learnt that Leah Sharibu may be released today by the Boko Haram terrorists.

“I would have gone to Dapchi today but by the time I fly in with a helicopter and police escort, they(terrorists) may think I’m trying to break the arrangement”.

Meanwhile residents of Dapchi are excited over the news that the insurgents have agreed to free Leah Sharibu.

“We are very happy about this development but for now we are waiting patiently to receive Leah Sharibu” a resident told Aledeh.com

“Some residents have ran out of Dapchi for fear of the unknown by the time the insurgents bring Leah Sharibu back,” Kachalla Bukar, Secretary of Association of Parents of Dapchi missing school girls also stated.

I agree those with the funds should start building medium high rise structures instead of always build bungalows.

All those bungalows along Ogui road and Okpara avenue need to be sold to entrepreneurs who will replace them with medium high rise as in the picture. They can just limit it to a maximum of 4-6 floors to make available parking space enough.

....and they don't need to make these buildings just for offices. They can make spaces for supermarkets, banks, small shops / furniture shops and other private companies that may want to hire. Even some people can hire some floors as their hotel or some high end restaurants. The buildings must not all be for offices.
Aside Sullivan all Enugu state governors are just able to pay salaries. Dubai was nothing before but it took an aggressive emir to turn it into one of the best destinations on earth.

All it takes is to employ some experts to develop a deliberate infrastructure master plan in the city. I know they have low IGR...but they can get loans. Dubai has huge debts too.

We need people with excellent ideas and not people who are just able to pay salaries..even my grand mother can that.
Politics › Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Cooly100: 7:17pm On Mar 24, 2018
ChimaAdeoye:
I don't think there is anything wrong with developing the villages. Having said that, i will tell you the risk of that approach.
The problem is that Enugu state is one of the states with the lowest financial resources in Nigeria. Just look at the national budgets of all states from 2000 to 2018. Enugu is among the last 5. Some of the investments we are seeing in Enugu today are because of Gov Chime's foresight to drastically improve the ambiance of Enugu to compete among the choice investment destinations in Nigeria with Abuja and Lagos.
Let me tell you, it was a very very smart move. I know many people here in the diaspora that now see Enugu as an alternative destination than the usual Lagos and Abuja mentality for investment among Diasporas. The state government must help facilitate communities to organize and embark on self help projects. The state government might be able to assist by coordinating communal efforts to achieve the stated goals in electrification, schools or health centers, community markets or roads.

I am glad Governor Ugwuanyi has continued in Chime's foot-steps to bring Enugu to international city standard and also just added Nsukka to the list. Creating two or three standard major cities in Enugu state is not only desirable, but the best thing to do for the state. It will be a gradual process to develop enough economic activities in these places to boost IGR for the state government. But, spreading the current resources too thin to develop every village at the same time will achieve nothing.

Therefore, spending in Enugu state must be very very smart. It makes every sense to try to build up and position Enugu city as the choice destination for investors into the South East and even Southsouth. If more investments are available, you can have more jobs and internally generated revenue to help improve finances of the state to develop the rural areas more. If you are not smart in how you spend to help create an attractive Enugu for investors to troop in, you will perpetually be living in penury sharing your inadequate resources to reach every village and a little for Enugu city which will end up not being enough for either the villages to develop nor for Enugu city to be a choice destination.
I can't agree more.

There is nothing wrong with developing other towns, but there must be continous investment in the capital city.

Its like the federal goverment having zero budget for the FCT Abuja, just because they needed to develop states to stop migration to Abuja..

These tragic thieves keep on giving flimsiest of reason why nothing will happen in the SE.

The other day a northern minister of state for aviation like this his brother from the north...was giving reason why the International Airport in Enugu might never be completed...

The same reason they gave why the 2nd Niger bridge will not go on..as they needed to do impact analysis...why wasn't it done since 1999 when Obj started work on the project?

It is now becoming too obvious for even the ardant supporter of "one hopeless Nigeria"...that there is script to ensure eastern Nigeria is held down.

My mind tells me that they envisage that Biafra would come one day..so no point spending resources there.

I might be wrong wink

Still on Industries...to ensure Enugu has things for the youths...does anyone know what is happening with this?

Enugu partners Chinese firms on Industrial Hub:

Enugu State Government on Friday witnessed a major breakthrough in its efforts to attract foreign investments in the state, with the presentation of a N300 million cheque to three communities of Ogwofia Owa, Enugu Eke and Akama Oghe by Lion Business Park Limited.

The money is a compensation for the economic crops and structures on the 2000 hectares of land acquired for the development of the Lion Business Park industrial project in partnership with Chinese partners under the coordination of the company.

The Lion Business Park industrial project is a bold initiative of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration, designed to create a manufacturing and integrated industrial hub in Enugu State and the South East geopolitical zone at large and facilitate Chinese manufacturers’ entry into the state to feed the Nigerian and African market through the existing sales channels of Onitsha and Aba in partnership with Nigerian business organizations.

Presenting the cheque, Gov. Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, stated that the project was in line with his administration’s determined efforts to attract direct foreign investments to the state, disclosing that the State Executive Council approved and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the group of Chinese Investors for the establishment of the Industrial Market, to be known as Lion Business Park.
