Foreign AffairsOusting Assad Was More Tragic Than The West Canonizing Jihadists by coputa(op):
When Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city fell on Friday, November 29, 2024 , I thought it was a big blow, but that the Syrian Armed Forces would quickly recover and fight to retake it. However, in the following days, as the Syrian military melted away in the face of advancing Islamic terrorist rebels of al-Qaeda, Islamic State, ISIS and al-Nustra, now called the Hayat Tahir al-Sham, HTS, I was worried.

The Syrian government announced that its troop withdrawals were tactical and strategic moves. But it reminded me how the Taliban in Afghanistan raced through towns and cities within a few days before arriving at the gates of Kabul on August 15, 2021. They then entered the city without a fight.

My fears were confirmed on Sunday morning December 8 when a friend called to inform me that the rebels had entered Damascus. We discussed for about an hour as I tried to convince him that the fall of President Bashir al-Assad’s government is a tragedy of monumental proportions as it was the glue that held the country together. So, it will be a miracle if the country does not disintegrate.

'My songs will make you buy bedsheets'- Ironha, who took hawking when fire razed his Yaba shop0:00 / 0:00

First, it was the liberal Assad government, despite its frailties that had kept the vicious Islamic terrorists from power. So Syria would now be run under a backward regime that would make it a virtual crime for Syrians to be Alawite Muslims, minority Christians, marginal nationalities or liberal-minded.

The HTS leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa alias Abu Mohammed al-julani, had at various times been the right hand man of ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, headed al-Qaeda in Syria and founded the terrorist al-Nusra Front which later changed its name to Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, JFS.

Only myopic Western leaders think robing Syrian Islamic terrorists in cassock would turn them into born-again liberals or democrats.

Secondly, it was the Assad administration that kept expansionist Israel from rolling down the Golan Heights it seized in 1967, to occupy more Syrian territory. Now, within three days of Assad’s fall, Israel has rolled out its thanks, seizing more Syrian lands, claiming it wants to build a buffer between the Golan Heights it is occupying and the new regime in Damascus.

Thirdly, the fall of Assad would give Turkey which already occupies 8,835 square kilometres of Syria, the opportunity to further expand, using its surrogate Syrian National Army.

Fourthly, Assad’s absence may make the Syrian Democratic Forces, SDF, and its Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units, YPG, fighting alongside Christian minorities, breakaway and establish a state of their own. Although currently, the SDF and the new regime in Damascus are not at loggerheads, the likely advance of the Turkish military and militia may force them into a war of survival.

The fall of Assad also presents an uncertainty for the US and its troops in Northern Syria who are holding over 40,000 ISIS combatants and their allies in various prisons. These prisoners and the jihadists now controlling Damascus, belonged to the same group and share the same jihadist ideology.

Yet another major factor in the unfolding tragedy is that the defeated Syrian armed forces, except for those who may defect to the new forces, have not been decimated. They are virtually intact. Some of their heavy arms have already been delivered to their allies in Iraq.

Syrian rebels name interim PM
In Damascus, life resumes without Assad
Syria's ousted president, Assad, family arrive in Russia, granted asylum
Also, the Alawites, a liberal Muslim movement which produced Hafez al-Assad, the father, and Bashar al-Assad the son as rulers of the country in the last half century, may build their own regional militia force that may be backed by Iran, Iraq and Russia.

Apart from the Americans and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO, with military interests in Syria, there are the Gulf States, including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia which had funded the establishment of ISIS primarily as a force to destabilise Syria and overthrow the Assad government. After ISIS became a Frankenstein monster and a beast to be put down, these regional powers continued to maintain links with its off shoots like the HTS that now holds power in Damascus.

Syria under Assad had its problems like all other countries, but the crises that led to its civil war was a contrived one. It was one of the countries the West and US pencilled down for regime change under various guises. The others included Iraq under Sadam Hussien, Afghanistan with Mullah Muhammad Omar as leader, Libya under Mouammar Ghadafi, Sudan with President Omar al-Bashir and, Iran. All those leaders are gone, remaining the leadership in Iran.

I have tried to understand the world and why we have ended up almost in a cul-de-sac. The overthrow of Assad gave me an added perspective. A world led by Western elites and their US first cousins, cannot but be a confused one because their philosophy is not about development, but acquisition and control.

This is not about their attempts to conquer the rest of humanity, slavery, colonialism and leading humanity into two World Wars, with a drive towards a nuclear-powered Third World War. It is more about being partially blinded by a myopia that sees weaponising religion thrice over, and expecting a different outcome.

The unfolding tragedy in Syria has its origins in the December 24, 1977 to February 15, 1989 conflict in Afghanistan. It was part of the Cold War battles. Pro-Soviet Union governments ran Afghanistan, and the US and its allies concluded that the best way to remove them and impose a Pro-capitalist government, was by mobilising Muslim youths across the world to carry out a jihad against the Afghan government which they labelled atheists. These youths became known as Mujahedeen and they succeeded in taking out the pro-Soviet regime, but could not agree on a new government.

When the Mujahedeen fighters returned to their various countries, their mainly conservative governments were afraid as they were battle-tested fighters who were outside the regular armies. When they moved against the returnees, the youths fled. Many re-assembled under a new internationalist organisation called al-Qaeda. It was led by US favourite, Osama Bin Laden. The al-Qaeda which was given refuge in Afghanistan, was later accused of masterminding the 911 attacks in US. For this, the US and its allies, invaded Afghanistan for two decades. When it was decided to invade Syria, the US and its Gulf allies, created ISIS and al-Nustra Front from al-Qaeda. ISIS like a mad dog turned against its owners and created a short-lived Islamic Caliphate spanning Iraq and parts of Syria.

So, having failed to learn from those experiences, the West, US and their allies are hailing the HTS Islamist jihadists.

SportsJake Paul's Net Worth After Mike Tyson Fight by coputa(op): 5:35pm On Nov 20, 2024
Controversial internet personality turned boxer Jake Paul has built a considerable fortune between his sports career and internet ventures. Here's what he's worth after the Tyson fight

How does Jake Paul make his money? His career explained
Jake Paul's rapidly growing wealth
Jake Paul has built his wealth using a number of income streams. The 27-year-old, who has been in the public eye since he blew up on now-defunct video-sharing app Vine as a teenager in 2013, is an influencer, a podcaster, a rapper, a YouTuber, and a boxer, among other things.

And on November 15th, the controversial internet star added a reported $40 million to his growing wealth by going toe-to-toe with legendary retired heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson, who is 31 years Paul’s senior at 58 (and whose own net worth has fluctuated considerably over the years)

"I'm here to make 40 million dollars and knock out a legend."

—Jake Paul, speaking about upcoming boxing match with Mike Tyson in a recent press conference

Here, Tyson and Paul, among others, appear at a November 13th press conference for their fight on the 15th.

The polarizing young streamer and semi-retired former heavyweight world champion were originally scheduled to box in July, but the match was postponed to allow Tyson time to recover from reported health issues.

The rescheduled event, during which two bouts preceded the main event, began at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, November 15th. Subscribers streamed the event live on Netflix for no additional pay-per-view charge. No knockouts were had, but Jake Paul won the match unanimously.

The weigh-ins for the bout occurred the day before, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, also streamed live on Netflix. During the weigh-in, Tyson slapped Paul. Viewers took to social media, noting that just prior to the slap, Paul appeared to approach Tyson while imitating a gorilla, in what some took to be a racist taunt, prior to stepping on Tyson's sock-clad foot with shoes on.

What is Jake Paul’s net worth in 2024?
Jake Paul’s exact net worth is unclear, although after the reported $40 million prize from the Tyson fight and $80 million as the commonly reported figure before the fight, a $120 million net worth isn't out of the question.

According to Forbes’ profile page for Jake Paul, the multihyphenate creator had earned $13.6 million prior to the Tyson fight in 2024. That would bring him to at least $63.6 million for the year afterward.

While the bulk of Paul’s early income (and notoriety) came from his aggressively irritating YouTube and social media antics, he now makes far more from his high-profile boxing career, which has earned him $80 million so far, according to Front Office Sports.

In 2020, Paul made $1.2 million fighting NBA player Nate Robinson. He reportedly earned $2 million for his winning 2021 match against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

Paul stated that he made a whopping $30 million from his first-ever losing match against British boxer Tommy Fury in 2023, and for his upcoming bout with Mike Tyson, Paul says he will take home $40 million — his biggest payday yet.

No stranger to vertical integration (having previously founded his own influencer incubator and content house to capitalize on the content-creation industry further), Paul is also a boxing promoter. He promotes his own bouts and those of other fighters — most notably, unified featherweight world champion Amanda Serrano — via Most Valuable Promotions, a company he co-founded with advisor Nakisa Bidarian in 2021.

With almost 70 million social media followers, Forbes ranked Paul #13 on its 2024 list of the world’s top creators.

Despite his YouTube channel being temporarily demonetized in 2018 as a result of his brother and collaborator Logan filming the deceased body of a suicide victim in Japan, Jake Paul has generated substantial wealth by producing content for YouTube and other platforms.

In 2017, Paul was the seventh-highest-paid YouTuber according to Forbes, taking in $11.5 million from his efforts on the platform. In 2020, Paul and ex-partner Tana Mongeau reportedly generated over $3 million in pay-per-view income by broadcasting a fake wedding.

By 2021, Paul had redirected the bulk of his efforts toward boxing and promotion but still made $5 million outside of the ring via YouTube and other ventures, according to Forbes.

While exactly how much income he generates from other ventures is unclear, Paul’s boxing wealth is certainly supplemented by his substantial cryptocurrency holdings, a traditional stock portfolio, ownership in multiple companies, and sponsorships from other brands.

Paul co-founded Betr, a startup sports betting and fantasy sports platform that was valued at $375 million as of early 2024 after securing $15 million in equity financing. He’s also been sponsored by Celsius, the third most popular energy drink in the U.S. according to Statista, since 2023.

Jake Paul's rapidly growing wealth
Over the course of his difficult-to-define career (entertainer would probably be the best catch-all term), Paul has used shock and controversy to generate attention — and income — earning a reputation as an arrogant but effective businessperson along the way.

Despite this reputation, however, Paul has, according to most authorities in the subject, managed to develop himself into quite the capable boxer, and has increased his earnings dramatically by doing so.

With an estimated $80 million net worth ahead of the Tyson fight — and an additional $40 million from bout on the way — Paul’s wealth and notoriety seem poised to continue growing at a breakneck pace.

Foreign AffairsIsrael - Iran War: Bad News For Israel As Iran Launches Lasers Technology by coputa(op): 4:44pm On Nov 10, 2024
Iran has emerged as a serious player, having exchanged two direct rounds of aerial attacks with Israel.

Iran, the only non-Arabian country in the West Asia/Middle East region was, for about 15-17 years largely considered a non-entity in terms of geopolitical, political, regional, and military issues. It was almost dismissed as a weak state thriving only on its petroleum and energy reserves. Somewhere in the beginning of the 2010s, there were a few flutters concerning the nuclear programme of the Persian nation, with Israel and the United States being most vocal and concerned amid the fears that the Islamic Republic is seeking a nuclear weapon.

The communication and action in this regard were confined to sanctions and rhetoric and Iran was not taken as a serious player, at least in the field of modern technology and weapons.

All this changed on October 7, 2023, with Palestine-based militant group Hamas launching a massive strike on Israel. It was the opening of the floodgates and since then, more than a year later, not only the proverbial proxies of Iran, Hezbollah, Iraqi Resistance, and Yemen-based Houthis, but Iran itself has emerged as a serious player, having exchanged two direct rounds of aerial attacks involving some of the most sophisticated ballistic missiles, drones, and fighters from both Iran and Israel.

Iran announced its arrival on the scene previously dominated by Saudi Arabia and Turkey as far as regional superpowers are concerned. Just how quickly it relegated these two and announced its arrival with panache. Even now, as of November 8, 2024, a day after Donald Trump secured his place as the new American president, Iran is suggesting with a firm tone not to take it lightly.

This background was essential to mention since the news here is about yet another achievement it has marked, “Laser Technology” at the 5th Iran Laser, Photonics, and Quantum Specialized Exhibition that started on November 3 at the Tehran International Exhibition Center up till November 6.

The exhibition showcased Iran’s latest advancements in the field of laser technology.

Iranian Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami inaugurated the event and said, “Today, lasers play a crucial role in cost reduction and quality improvement across various fields, enhancing standards. Once considered a luxury, lasers now support diverse applications, including human safety and environmental protection.”

While talking to the media, Eslami said that laser technology is introducing itself to the public more each day and will help industries by synergizing with other technologies.

“With the unveilings we made at the laser exhibition, we have reached the capacity for self-sufficient production of laser products,” he said.

Foreign AffairsDonald Trump's Speech On Why He Hates Africans & Arabs by coputa(op): 3:17pm On Nov 10, 2024
*We are not obliged, even for a second, to try to prove to anybody and especially to blacks and Arabs that we are superior people - we have demonstrated that to the black and Arabs in 1001 ways.*
*The America we know today was not created by wishful thinking. We created it at the expenses of intelligence, sweat, and blood.....we do not pretend like other whites that we like the blacks - We must admit, without any fear, that we don't like them, and for so, so, many valid reasons.*

*The fact that blacks and Arabs look like human beings does not necessarily make them sensible human beings. Hedgehogs are not porcupines and lizards are not crocodiles because they look alike. if God had wanted us to be equal to blacks and Arabs, he would have created us all of a uniform colour and intellect. But he created us differently. Whites, blacks, yellow, the rulers and the ruled. intellectually we are superior to the blacks and Arabs. That has been proven beyond the reasonable doubt over the years.*

*I believe that a white man is an honest, God fearing person who has demonstrated practically the right way of being a human. By now every one of us has seen it practically that blacks and Arabs cannot rule themselves. Give them guns and they will kill each other.*

*They are good in nothing else but making noise, dancing, marrying many wives, alcoholism, witchcraft, indulging in sex, pretending in church, jealousy, fighting and complaining of bad leadership; but, yet refuse to take a decisive action and protest to remove the brigands from position of power.*

*Let us all accept the fact that the black man is a symbol of poverty, mental inferiority, laziness and emotional incompetence. To make the matter worse, he can do everything possible to defend his stupidity. Give them money for development and they will fight and create hatred and enmity for themselves. Drill oil wells for them and they will not have peace all the days of their life.*
*See, for instance, what's happening in Nigeria (a Country blessed with abundant resources), Southern Sudan, Malawi, DRC just to mention a few.*
*"This proves to anybody including a stupid fool that Africans do not know what they want. isn't that plausible"?*
*"They are like monkeys looking for already ripping banana all over the world!!!.*

*Therefore that the white man is created to rule the black man, Africans will always have day dreams.*
*And here is the creature (black man) that lacks foresight but only sees what is near him and still fails to know what to do"*
*A black man is stupid to the extent that he cannot plan for his life beyond a year. Therefore how can they develop and live longer.*

*"Corruption in the west (And China) is a big abomination, but in Africa, it's so huge that it is slowly becoming an acceptable way of life!!!.*(Shame, isn't it?)

*They sing and rejoice to their corrupt political leaders. They worship their scandal-ridden religious leaders like their gods. Lest you forget, these so called Africans are praising, dancing and praying for the people that have impoverished them, and who comes to hide their loot here.*

*Then which fool argues that the black man is not born a beggar, grows a beggar, looks a beggar, falls sick as a beggar and dies a beggar. this has been proven beyond reasoning.*
*I wonder why even up to now most Africans still go to school by force, and those who are at school are are just drug addicts who don't know what took them there. This is a pregnant stupidity in Africa. The body of Africans is a very fertile ground for all diseases in the world because they don't fear even HIV/AIDS.*
*This leaves me with a question: Are our eyes created the same with those Africans? I hear there are still cultures in Africa that prohibit them from using latrines which is very annoying.*

*"They cried for independence but have failed to rule themselves". For sure being African is a very untreatable disease that even prayers are not enough.*
*They have minerals but they cannot do anything with it. Therefore let us (whites) go to Africa and pick what we can pick and leave what is of no use. Poverty is a disease to the whites, but to the blacks it is very normal.*

*"Look at what is currently going on in Nigeria National Assembly. Legislators amending the constitution to favor themselves at the expense of two (200) million Nigerians. The present administration now have no economic blueprint plan, rather than noise and false propaganda. Characterised with hatred and witch hunt/impoverishment".*
*"Majority of these legislators are treasury looters who are intellectually barren but using the ill gotten wealth to oppress the citizens of that great country".*

*"What a shame"!*
*Black people with black sense, and a sick president in London for medical tourism!!!.*

*The worst tragedy in Africa is that if you dare stand up and speak up for what's right, you may end up regretting.*
*"The few wise and open-minded Africans who have tried to educate these fools about civilization have met the worst. They have been pushed hard on the wall, they have been silenced and others have been killed".*
*Before I finish, let me tell Africans that before you jump and call me a racist, an anti-blacks or whatever term you may wish to use against me,1st tackle runaway corruption, dreadful terrorism, tribalism, poverty, unemployment, diseases, illiteracy, ignorance, and inequality, that have put your whole continent on the verge of collapse".*
*"Hate me or love me, I don't care.I know this is the plain truth which will never see the light of the day to the cowards that are afraid to be told as it is".*

Foreign AffairsBig Trouble For Iran As Israel Signs Deal To Buy 25 Fighter Jets by coputa(op): 1:06pm On Nov 10, 2024
Israel has signed a significant USD 5.2 billion deal to procure 25 advanced fighter jets, with funding provided through U.S. military aid, the Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday. The deal includes 25 Boeing F-15IA fighter jets, a modified Israeli version of the advanced F-15EX, with an option for an additional 25 jets. The aircraft will be delivered in batches of four to six each year, starting in 2031.

The new jets will be equipped with cutting-edge weapon systems, incorporating state-of-the-art Israeli technologies. The upgraded F-15IAs will feature enhanced range capabilities, increased payload capacity, and improved performance in various operational scenarios. These advancements will allow the Israeli Air Force to maintain its strategic edge and effectively address current and future security challenges in the Middle East.

“The upgraded aircraft will feature enhanced range capabilities, increased payload capacity, and improved performance across various operational scenarios. These advantages will enable the Israeli Air Force to maintain its strategic superiority in addressing current and future challenges in the Middle East,” the ministry was quoted as saying by The Times of Israel.

Zamir emphasized that while Israel is prioritizing the immediate need for advanced weaponry and ammunition, the country is also investing in long-term strategic capabilities. The recent procurement of the F-15 squadron, along with the third F-35 squadron secured earlier this year, is seen as a historic boost to Israel’s air power and strategic reach—essential capabilities that have proven crucial in the ongoing conflict.

Calls to restrict weapons sales to Israel
The news of Israel’s recent defense deal comes at a time when calls to restrict weapons sales to Israel are gaining traction within the international community, including from some of its allies. On Wednesday, Egypt joined Turkey’s efforts—supported by 52 other nations, including Russia and China—urging the United Nations to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

Earlier in October, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that an arms embargo was the only way to end the war in Gaza. Additionally, in September, concerned over Israel’s conduct in the conflict, Britain and Canada suspended certain arms trade licenses with Israel, though they stopped short of endorsing a full embargo.

Despite these pressures, Israel’s two largest arms suppliers, the United States and Germany, have resisted calls for an embargo. However, both countries have been accused of withholding certain military supplies during the ongoing conflict.

F-15 agreement is second major deal this year
For Boeing, the F-15 deal marks the second major agreement secured this year. In August, Israel’s flag carrier, El Al Israel Airlines, signed a deal with Boeing for the purchase of up to 31 737 MAX aircraft, valued at up to USD 2.5 billion, surpassing rival Airbus in the process.

The president of Boeing Israel, former Israel Air Force chief Ido Nehushtan, said in a statement, “Boeing takes pride in its longstanding partnership with Israel, a relationship that dates back to our nation’s establishment.”

“The company will continue working with the US and Israeli governments to deliver the advanced F-15IA aircraft through standard military procurement channels,” chief Nehushtan said as per The Times of Israel.

PoliticsAs BRICS Welcomes Nigeria As Partner by coputa(op): 8:12pm On Nov 09, 2024
The 16th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) summit took place recently in the city of Kazan, Russia with an enlarged compliment of countries attending as new members and observers.

Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia attended as new members following their accession at the last summit in South Africa. Also at the meeting were a host of countries and global institutions including the United Nations led by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which signifies the growing influence of the organisation across the world. Nigeria was added as one of the 13 partner countries to the organisation at the summit.

At the Kazan BRICS summit, which theme was: “Strengthening Multilateralism for Fair Global Development and Security”, members agreed to introduce a payment system called BRICS Pay to facilitate transactions and exchange of financial information between central banks of partner countries, which will serve as alternative to the Western Interbank System, SWIFT.

The BRICS nations also endorsed the call for the reform of the United Nations and the Security Council, as well as the creation of the State of Palestine under the two-state solution.

By all indications, the Kazan BRICS summit and the resolutions present positive signs for Nigeria in terms of expanding the scope of its international engagements, especially in these challenging economic times.

With the entry of Egypt and Ethiopia, added to South Africa, Africa now has three countries in the organisation. As emerging African economies, these countries face similar challenges similar to those of Nigeria in their bid to resolve existential issues of economic development. In a world where new centres of economic and political powers are emerging, Nigeria must also key into these developments in order to participate in shaping the future of the world. Nigeria should, therefore, see the invitation to partner with the BRICS as a recognition of its strategic importance to the ongoing efforts by a growing number of countries to reshape the world. The principle of no permanent friends but permanent interests, which guides the foreign relations of most countries, must come to play here.

In this regard, it behoves on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take full advantage of this invitation by the BRICS, especially as the administration is seeking pathways to economic transformation of the country. Of the resolutions reached at the BRICS summit, a particular point to note is the BRICS Pay system, which seeks to provide an alternative payment system in global finance and trade. This is certainly one of the avenues that Nigeria can utilise to diversify its global financial and trade relations.

But while the invitation to partner with the BRICS is a sign of good development, it also comes as a challenge to Nigeria’s commitment to good governance. It is instructive that the members of the BRICS and most of the partner countries of the organisation have reached remarkable levels of socio-economic development, which they can hold up to the world as evidence of good governance. Indeed, it is without doubt one of the reasons why sister African countries like Egypt and Ethiopia could make it to become full members of the organisation. We must show an agenda that demonstrates serious commitment to economic development, resolving insecurity, poverty and hunger as well as transparency and integrity in our governance system, both internally and externally.

Blessed with abundant human and natural resources and located in a geo-strategic position, Nigeria has been looked upon for a long time as leader of Africa. For some time, Nigeria had actually striven to fulfil this manifest destiny through its appreciable economic development strides and robust foreign policy engagements. But over a few decades now, this expectation of Nigeria had been regressing as a result of untoward happenings in our political and economic spheres. Thus, the opportunities that used to come to Nigeria to play its leadership role in Africa on global issues have been receding to the point where we no longer command the respect of fellow African countries as we used to.

Accordingly, we call on President Tinubu to use the opportunity provided by the invitation to be a BRICS partner country to rejuvenate our well known robust foreign policy posture. In this regard, we note that more than a year since the current administration came into office, Nigeria as yet does not have full ambassadorial representation in our various diplomatic missions abroad. For a country desiring to project its importance and status on the global stage and seeking economic and political partnerships for development, this is hardly the way to achieve the desired outcome. Countries and global institutions like the BRICS that desire to engage with us constructively on mutually beneficial issues would likely not take us serious if the current situation persists.

Although our international engagements have lost the fervour, we still enjoy considerable respect from countries and institutions that are not ready to write Nigeria off yet. Accordingly, we must work to demonstrate enough resolve that indeed, Nigeria is ready to repose the confidence that the world used to repose in it. The invitation to partner with the BRICS is one of such opportunities, which we should accept promptly and pursue with a well-structured agenda that will take us to full membership of the organisation.

SportsEdna Imade Could Be Nigeria's Next Attacking Weapon by coputa(op): 7:21pm On Nov 09, 2024
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are a powerhouse in African women’s football, with a legacy built on generations of gifted strikers.

Players like Mercy Akide, Perpetua Nkwocha, and Asisat Oshoala have carried the team through decades of dominance.

As Oshoala’s era begins to wind down, the search for a new goal-scoring queen to lead Nigeria’s next generation continues.

Among the top candidates is Edna Imade, a young, powerful forward making waves in Spanish football.
A Journey of Resilience and Hope
Imade’s story begins in Benin City, Nigeria, in 2000, when her parents left in search of a better life.

Pregnant with Edna and her twin brother Paul, her mother embarked on a perilous journey across the Sahara Desert.

Facing unimaginable challenges, the family reached Morocco, where Imade’s mother gave birth to the twins.

After three months in Morocco, they secured a spot on a boat to Spain, seeking safety and stability.

Upon arrival in Spain, Imade’s father was detained and deported, leaving her mother to care for the newborn twins on her own.

Alone, with no language skills or family connections, her mother searched desperately for assistance.

Eventually, a Kenyan nun offered shelter, and they settled in Seville.

However, the family continued to struggle financially, relying on welfare and small earnings from selling scarves on the streets.

Despite these hardships, Edna’s mother instilled resilience in her children.

Growing Up in Spain, with Dreams of Football Stardom
Raised in Seville, Edna embraced her Spanish surroundings, speaking with a distinct Andalusian accent.

Despite the challenging circumstances of her upbringing, football provided her an outlet and a pathway to something greater.

Starting at six years old, Edna played on boys’ teams in the small town of Carmona, refining her skills and proving herself against strong competition.

She later transitioned to indoor football and excelled, scoring nearly 100 goals in two seasons for Nervión, a club in the second Andalusian women’s division.

In 2019, Edna took her talents to Málaga CF Femenino in the Reto Iberdrola league, making her first significant step in professional football.

Her impressive performances led to a move to Cacereño Femenino, where she continued to develop her technique and on-field intelligence.

Physically strong, fast, and skilful, Edna quickly caught the attention of scouts and fans alike.

Last year, Edna moved to Granada CF, where she had a strong debut season, scoring five goals in 28 appearances.

This season, she has been in electrifying form, netting five goals in her first eight league games.

Her standout performances included scoring twice against Eibar, a crucial goal in a close loss to Real Betis, and a brace in Granada’s 3-0 win over Sevilla last weekend.

Her combination of strength, speed, and tactical awareness has made her one of the most exciting talents in Spain’s women’s league.

Could Edna Imade be Nigeria’s Next Star?
With the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on the horizon, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are undergoing a transformation under coach Justin Madugu.

The team will need fresh talents as they seek to reclaim their title from current champions South Africa.

Imade’s potential call-up would not only add a valuable attacking option but also give her a chance to connect with her Nigerian roots, a part of her heritage she has yet to fully explore.

To date, Imade has not visited Nigeria, although she keeps in touch with her family in Benin City.

Her mother dreams of returning to her homeland, but safety concerns have held them back.

Yet, the opportunity to represent Nigeria at a high level could bring Imade closer to her family, heritage, and a new chapter in her footballing journey.

As the Super Falcons aim for glory, Imade’s impressive abilities and her heartfelt story might just be the spark Nigeria need to continue their legacy at the top of African women’s football.

How To Start A Successful Cooking Gas Delivery Business In Nigeria?

Please note, this is for retail reseller refilling businesses in Nigeria.

What Do I Need To Start Gas Exchange Business?

If it is with bottles, I guess you may already have:

A location; and other refilling equipments like Bottles, scale, hose, filling nozzles and adaptors for different ball valves. That’s all you need.

In Nigeria, you can start with (5) 50kg cylinder bottles. It depends on the size of tank you want and the location you are.

So, how do i explain about a business to a clueless person? I did explain all details including example not this words "it depends".

First, you need to know the capacity of tank you want do per day. Secondly, you need a good location with good population to supply to.

Many rules here is that, some locations may not work for retail reseller shops like it work for lpg gas plant, east and north too that usually happens.

Next, once you already established yourself in that particular area, you should look for motorcyclist or Keke (tricycle) rider to be contacting to come take refilled cylinders to customers. You should be doing deliveries to customers.

Once your business is going on well, you can get a bike instead of getting a van. Doing pick up and delivery is good but not for a start (don't start what you can't finish).

MEGAWATCH:
What does Gabon produce that made them occupy that third position?

Nigeria's problem is big time mismanagement of resources and waste by government officials.
Gabon is a mature oil producer in West Africa, and its government derives a significant amount of its revenue from crude oil production. Revenue from petroleum and other liquids represents about 45% of gross domestic product (GDP), and petroleum and other liquids exports accounted for nearly 74% of total export revenue in 2019.
In 2019, oil-based GDP growth is estimated to be 7.9%, and the overall GDP growth is estimated to be 3.4%, according to the International Monetary Fund.
Gabon officially rejoined the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in July 2016. Gabon was previously a member of OPEC from 1975 to 1995, but it left the organization because of high annual fees.
In 2011, the government created a national oil company (NOC), the Gabon Oil Company, to increase the government's involvement in oil production by taking equity stakes in future awards.
Petroleum and other liquids
Gabon is among the top five oil producers in sub-Saharan Africa and has 2 billion barrels of proved crude oil reserves, including lease condensate reserves, according to the Oil & Gas Journal. The major international oil companies (IOCs) operating in Gabon are Total, Assala Energy, Perenco, Addax Petroleum, and Vaalco Energy. The IOCs have operations primarily in Gabon’s offshore fields.
Gabon produced about 201,000 barrels per day (b/d) of petroleum and other liquids in 2019. Low oil prices and mature oil fields have caused Gabon’s oil output to decline. Total oil production has decreased by more than one-third since its peak of 370,000 b/d in 1997.
China’s share of Gabon’s total crude oil exports increased significantly from 15% in 2015 to 74% in 2019. Other major export destinations include Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, and Italy.
In mid-2019, Gabon enacted the 2019 Hydrocarbon Law to reinvigorate its oil market and support its 12th bidding round for the allocation of 23 deep-water and 12 shallow water blocks. The new law decreases by half the government’s participation, to 10%, during development and exploitation. The law caps the increase of cost recovery at 70% and 75% for conventional areas for oil and deep and ultra-deep areas for oil, respectively. The law also establishes an option to renegotiate if additional discoveries are made and extends the exclusive authorization timeframe.
Following the Ivela-1 and Boudji-1 discoveries and the ratification of the 2019 Hydrocarbon Law, Petronas signed an exploration and production contract for offshore blocks F12 and F13. The blocks are expected to yield 200,000 b/d. Gabon plans to auction 35 blocks in the current offshore licensing round.
Gabon has a single refinery, the Sogara Refinery, which is owned by Société Gabonaise de Raffinage (SOGARA) and is located at Port Gentil. The aging refinery, which routinely operates below capacity because of maintenance issues, has a crude oil distillation capacity of 24,000 b/d.
Gabon and South Korean company Samsung signed a memorandum of understanding to construct a new 50,000 b/d refinery in Port Gentil to replace Sogara in 2012. They later abandoned these plans.
Natural gas
Natural gas production in Gabon was about 13 billion cubic feet (Bcf) in 2018. According to the Oil & Gas Journal, the country has approximately 900 Bcf of proved natural gas reserves, most of which are associated with its crude oil fields.
Gabon consumes all of the natural gas produced domestically and uses natural gas for reinjection into oil wells to enhance oil recovery. Gabon aims to use natural gas for two planned fertilizer plants and future petrochemical projects.
In July 2019, Perenco procured the license for the Olowi field, which is estimated to hold 0.85 Bcf of potential natural gas reserves. Royal Dutch Shell also discovered natural gas in the Leopard-1 well in 2014.
Electricity
Total installed capacity in Gabon was 750 megawatts (MW) in 2018. Thermal power from fossil fuels accounted for 56%, or 418 MW, of total capacity. Hydropower represented 44% of total capacity. Biomass and solar accounted for the remaining 2.2 MW.
Total electricity generation in Gabon was 2.2 billion kilowatthours (kWh) in 2018. Generation from fossil fuels accounted for 58%. In 2018, hydropower generation decreased slightly to 892 million kWh from 920 million kWh in 2017.
According to the latest 2018 estimates from the World Bank, 93% of Gabon’s population has access to electricity. Gabon’s urban areas consume most of the country’s generated power and have an electrification rate of 97%, but the electrification rate in rural areas is substantially lower, at 63%. The government of Gabon plans to provide electricity for 85% of rural regions by 2025.
Gabon’s growing and urbanizing population and its industrial development are straining the country’s power generation capacity. To meet the country’s electricity demand, Gabon continues to invest in new hydroelectric power plants. In early 2019, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Gabon Power Company (GPC)-Eranove Consortium agreed to finance construction of the 73-MW Ngoulmendjim hydropower plant by Asokh Energie and 15-MW Dibwangui hydropower plant by Louetsi Hydro. The Dibwangui plant will electrify the rural communities in southwest Gabon, which previously did not have electricity.
In October 2019, French fund manager Meridiam signed a 33-year concession contract with the government of Gabon to construct a 34 MW hydropower plant on the Mbei River, 100 kilometers from Libreville, the capital of Gabon. The Kinguele Aval Hydropower Project will be financed in part by International Finance Corporation (IFC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The Gabonese Fund for Strategic Investments (FGIS) and Meridiam will fund 25% of the project. It plans to provide 13% of Libreville’s electricity needs and is expected to replace some thermal capacity. Construction was scheduled for the second quarter of 2020, but it has been delayed following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Meridiam expects the project to be completed

Eritrea

This country in East Africa is very strict about citizens leaving the country. The Eritrean government punishes those who fail to complete their national service requirements and places restrictions on citizens' legal capacity to leave the country.

The government carries out yearly roundups to find and apprehend evaders, and border security personnel have the authority to shoot anyone trying to escape without authorisation. Financial penalties and incarceration are examples of penalties for noncompliance.

Offenders who return after 40 years risk extended imprisonment and loss of rights. Penalties extend to their family, with fines, seized properties, forced replacements, or jail.

Due to concerns about players requesting asylum overseas and never coming back, the Eritrean football team, which hardly ever plays in international tournaments, has decided to skip the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.

North Korea

North Korea restricts it's citizen movement

It is illegal for North Koreans to travel outside of their nation without permission from the government.

Those who do so risk harsh punishments like torture, forced labour, and life in a political prison camp.

The people are permitted to travel overseas are under strict surveillance and are required to return to North Korea for special ideological debriefings.

Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is an authoritarian country
According to Turkey's Law on Migration, which stipulates that a citizen's departure may be prohibited if it compromises national security, the government still forbids some citizens from leaving the country.

According to the NGO Prove They Are Alive!, law enforcement agencies have the authority to prevent citizens from travelling, including young males, people who are being prosecuted or facing civil or criminal accusations, family members of those found guilty of the 2002 coup attempt, journalists, civil society activists, and their relatives.

According to the group, 20,000 people were prohibited from travelling for political reasons.

In the past, Iran and Cuba had strict policies against their citizens leaving the country, but they have been relaxed.

PoliticsNigerians Question CNG Vehicle Safety After Malaysia Sets 2025 Ban by coputa(op): 11:00am On Nov 08, 2024
The recent announcement by the Malaysian government to phase out the use of natural gas for vehicles by July 2025 has sparked reactions from Nigerians, given the Nigerian government’s ongoing push to promote Compressed Natural Gas as an alternative to petrol.

The Malaysian Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, recently stated that the decision was made to prioritise the safety of road users and the public, according to Malaysia Reserve.

Loke reportedly cited the potential hazards posed by ageing CNG tanks nearing the end of their safe usage life.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Loke was quoted as saying, “These NGV tanks have a safe usage lifespan of approximately 15 years, and if they are not replaced, they become unsafe to use and may fail at any time.”

The phase-out will reportedly impact 44,383 active NGV vehicles in Malaysia, including taxis, private vehicles, buses, and machinery, which make up 0.2% of the nation’s registered motor vehicles.

The report added that the government-owned oil and gas company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad, will halt the sale of CNG at its stations in stages from 1 July.

The minister was also said to have announced a set of assistance programmes for NGV-powered taxi drivers, dual-fuel vehicle owners, and owners of purely NGV-powered vehicles.

In contrast, the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has been promoting CNG vehicles as a safer and more cost-effective alternative to petrol.

In August 2023, Tinubu approved the establishment of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas initiative to ease the impacts of fuel subsidy removal on citizens.

However, Nigerians have expressed concerns over the safety of CNG vehicles following recent explosions involving some converted vehicles.

Many have also taken to social media to question the safety of adopting CNG vehicles, citing Malaysia’s decision to phase them out.

Ini Ekott, tweeting on X.com as #iniekott, wrote on Thursday, “Meanwhile, Nigerian rulers are putting CNG forward as a safe alternative to petrol.
Note the clear-headed and tangible provisions made by the Malaysian government to help citizens with the transition.”

#Otunbakush1 wrote, “And here is Nigeria saying people should convert to CNG… Death Race.”

#PaschalNwosu5 commented, “Malaysia introduced CNG in the 1990s; now they are stopping it in 2024, while Bola and his supporters are asking Nigerians to change to CNG. APC is taking you 34 years backwards, but some of you’re defending it.”

#SmartAtuadi similarly wrote, “Yet, here in Nigeria, they want to decimate the population by their tacit promotion and coercive campaign for Nigerians to convert their vehicles to CNG.”

#Oserume1 commented, “If CNG was a good idea, Tinubu would have converted his official luxury Cadillac Escalade from petrol to CNG!”

#PastorGreatKing wrote, “Basically, President Tinubu is telling Nigerians to buy CNG as a way of diverting our attention from constant fuel price increases. When cars start blowing up like missiles, we all run back to fuel, but then it’s too late to argue/protest about fuel prices.”

PoliticsMilitary Confirms The Emergence Of 'lukarawas'terrrorist Group In Nigeria by coputa(op): 10:40am On Nov 08, 2024
Nigerian Defence Headquarters has confirmed the presence of a new terrorist group, ‘Lukarawas,’ that has started infiltrating the Northwest region, intensifying the insecurity already faced by local residents.

This was disclosed by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, 7th November 2024.

Maj.-Gen. Buba explained that the ‘Lukarawas’ group began operating in northern Nigeria following the recent political instability in the Republic of Niger.

The coup in Niger led to a breakdown of security cooperation between Nigerian and Nigerien forces, allowing the Lukarawas group to exploit border weaknesses.

“The terrorists took advantage of the gaps in cooperation between both countries and exploited difficult terrains to make incursions in remote areas in some Northwestern states to spread their ideology,” Buba stated.

According to him, these incursions have primarily impacted northern Sokoto and Kebbi states, where the group entered from the Niger Republic and Mali axis.

Unintended support by locals
Buba revealed that local communities initially offered support to the Lukarawas group, mistakenly believing it had peaceful intentions.

“The group was accommodated by the locals who initially thought that the group meant well for them,” he noted. However, this assistance unintentionally facilitated the group’s establishment in these areas.

In response to this Buba noted that the Nigerian military has intensified Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations to locate and neutralize the group’s members.

The Defence Headquarters pointed out that the Lukarawas group is exploiting vast, under-governed territories in Northwest Nigeria to evade detection and engage in activities that threaten local populations.

“The terror group has continued to take advantage of the vast under-governed areas to hide and evade troops as well as harass the locals,” Maj.-Gen. Buba explained.

What you should know
On July 26, 2023, a military coup took place in Niger when factions of the armed forces declared they had taken control and suspended the constitution.
The coup began after President Mohamed Bazoum’s plan to replace the head of the presidential guard, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, led to his arrest by the guard.
The coup led to the suspension of civilian rule and the establishment of a military junta, the army supported the new junta with military leaders stating their aim was to avoid a deadly confrontation between the competing factions, which could lead to widespread violence.
Before the coup, Nigeria and Niger had been working closely together to combat terrorism, with joint security operations along their shared border helping to curb militant activities.
However, the breakdown of this cooperation following the coup has allowed these terror groups to exploit the weakened security, using the remote and difficult terrains along the border to launch incursions into Nigeria.
