A naval officer by name, David Igbashal has been declared missing.

Until missing, he was working with the Naval Command at Calabar. The family and his office lost contact with him on 21st February when he was travelling from Calabar to Otukpo through Enugu. Even in America and Britain, Ph.D isn't compulsory for lecturers of clinical medicine and dentistry even though some of them have it. The main requirement there is to be a fellow (specialist). You only become board-certified. I've not seen the giant strides the Ph.D holders have ever made. In fact, those consultants are better in research than the so-called Ph.D holders. It's all about politics.

Some policies are poorly thought out. Let the NUC find consultants with Phds to teach in all the Federal, State and Private Medical Institutions in Nigeria. They will be lucky if they can find up to 10 consultants with Phds in the whole of Nigeria.

If this policy is not overturned, I predict that no medical student will graduate in Nigeria in the next 10 years, and no current resident will become a consultant.

If they don't want to get their PhD or request time to get it, then students can remain in the school as long as they are ready to. #Get a PhD

Actually not an association but the Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria which was set up by legislation just like universities and bodies LIKE NIPSS,NIALS,FIIRO, etc

Currently, the students now doctors that are being churned out by this "mere association" are in high in demand in many developed countries and international bodies. In fellowship exams, not only is there a standard exam, you also present at least 20 clinical cases you managed and a dissertation/ research work you did at the final exam.

If NUC accept your demand it will be a recipe for disaster because other associations will come up with claim of program equal to PhD. ASUU might even protest it with another strike. Medical doctors worldwide has never required PhD for teaching clinical medicine. Not even in in the US, UK or other climes.(except in in university in Uganda where they award PhD automatically when you complete your fellowship. The fellowship programme which spans 5 to 10yrs is the only requirement worldwide to become a professor in medicine
