It is a common sight to see buildings that were not originally designed to be storey buildings been converted to storey buildings.Those committing this unprofessional act seems not to know that the foundation structural strength of a non-storey building( church hall,block of flats,) is not the same as a storey building. Perhaps they are aware of the magnitude of their act,but chose to listen to the voice of greed. The Council of Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria ( COREN ) that is supposed to checkmate this unwholesome practice is more or less a toothless bulldog.The Local Government Council seems not to help matters too. What is the way forward? |
