Many men are having more unprotected sex after starting on HIV preventative drugs.
Some men report having more sex without condoms after starting on a daily pill to prevent HIV, according
to an unpublished survey of 90 patients from one California healthcare provider.
The result doesn't represent all users of the drug, Truvada , and it doesn't prove that taking the drug leads
men to have riskier sex, researchers said. The result also stands in contrast to two rigorous peer-reviewed
trials of the drug.
The doctor who conducted the survey said the finding is leading to a formal study.
"We need more information to really clarify the information we do have," said Dr. Jonathan Volk, who
helped conduct the survey at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco.
Truvada , which is manufactured by Gilead, is approved in the U.S. for pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP.
The pill may reduce the risk of HIV infection, which leads to Aids, by as much as 92 percent, according to
the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
As of right now, Volk said the survey shows the drug is working to prevent HIV.
"We now have over 500 patients on this medication and we have zero new infections," he said.
The CDC advises people taking Truvada to continue using condoms, because the pill does not completely
protect against HIV and does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections, which are effectively
prevented through condom use.
Volk told Reuters Health by phone that he decided to survey around 100 of his patients who had been taking
Truvada for about six months to get a better understanding about their behaviours and experiences with the
drug. The results have not been peer-reviewed for publication in a journal.

A 13-year-old boy, (name withheld) has been arrested by the Police in Bauchi State on allegation
of killing a six-year-old boy in a bid to snatch N500 from him.
The Police in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, DSP Mohammed Haruna said the incident
occurred at Runtum Village in Nabordo District of the state.
The statement indicated that the six-year-old boy was sent by his mother with the money to buy fire wood,
when the suspect allegedly stabbed him on the neck and stomach.
The police said the victim was rushed to General Hospital, Toro, where he was certified dead by a doctor.
It said police detectives attached to Toro Division have visited the scene of the crime and arrested the
suspect, who was helping them with their investigation.
The statement said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.

Munroe, and his wife Ruth have been killed
in a plane crash in Grand Bahama
alongside seven others, totaling nine
people who died. The tragic incident happened on Sunday afternoon, killing all nine people on board of the private jet. The plane was said to
have struck a crane at the Grand Bahama
Ship Yard, exploding on impact and
crashing into the ground near a junkyard
area.
The Department of Civil Aviation reported
that the plane was a Lear 36 executive jet
which departed the Lynden Pindling
International Airport (LPIA) for the Grand
Bahama International Airport. The plane left
LPIA at 4.07pm with nine people on board
and crashed while making an approach for
landing at Grand Bahama International
Airport at 5.10pm, the Department of Civil
Aviation said. However, a police source on the island
previously said two were feared dead but
police sources later confirmed that all
those on board had been killed. The group
was heading to a conference hosted by
Pastor Munroe – the Global Leadership
Forum. The names of the other people on board
have not yet been made known but the
statement said while the department was
advised of fatalities, it was awaiting
confirmation from police on if there were
any survivors.
The Bahamian preacher was born April 20,
1954, clocked 60 years of age early this

No fewer than 75 members of the outlawed Boko Haram
insurgents have reportedly been killed by local hunters in
Michika and Madagali local government areas of Adamawa
state.
The insurgents which had taken control of the two local
government areas of the state and parts of Borno State
were reported to have ran short of ammunitions, a situation
which left them unprotected.
A source in the area said that on discovering that the
insurgents were dearth of ammunition, the local hunters
pounced on them and started killing them.
He said normalcy has begun to return in the affected
areas as Nigerian Soldiers have recovered the local
government areas from the insurgents.

Security operatives have discovered Improvised Explosive Devices, including five hand grenades and other chemicals for manufacturing such devices, in an uncompleted building in Kabba in Kogi State.

The discovery was made on Monday in an uncompleted four-bedroom flat at Asunta Quarters, behind Baptist Primary School in the ancient city of Kabba, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

A combined team of the State Security Service, police and soldiers, acting on an intelligence report, cordoned off the building at about 2 p.m. They forced the iron doors open and with the aid of the Police Anti-Bomb Squad recovered the devices.

Other items recovered include NPK brand of feriliser and other chemicals that are basic raw materials in the manufacturing of explosives.

Also recovered are army camouflage cap, saw, cables wires, transistor radio, batteries of different sizes and video CD players, used for testing the devices, but no arrest has been made.

The Commander, Police Anti-Bomb Squad, Mr. Cletus Nzeji, said that all the recovered items would be taken to their laboratory for analysis.

He confirmed that the recovered five hand grenades were of high capacity and were capable of bringing down a three-storey building.

He said investigations would reveal whether the devices belonged to armed robbers or the Boko Haram sect, but promised that the owners would be tracked down.

Nzeji said that the building where the items were discovered would be demolished, while the owner of the building would also be identified.
