Nairaland GeneralControversy As Allegations Of 'shady Deals' Rocks Nigeria Election Debate Group by Crown01(op): 5:02pm On Mar 22, 2015
The Nigeria Election Debate Group, NEDG, has organised presidential and vice presidential debates since 1999, but fresh claims have emerged questioning the independence and partisan nature of the group.

The debates, the final lap of the series of debates organised by the NEDG, is holding on March 22, according to the organisers.

But there have been allegations that the group is actually a one-man show run by Raymond Dokpesi, the Chairman of DAAR Communications Limited (owners of Africa Independent Television, AIT), who uses it as a bargaining tool for private gains and political advantage.

When it was incorporated in 2011, the NEDG listed six organisations as shareholders, each with a representative.

They include Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, represented by Abubakar Aji; DAAR Communications, represented by Tony Akiotu; Nigeria Union of Journalists, represented by Mohammed Garba; Alliance for Credible Election represented by Emma Ezeazu; Nigeria Guild of Editors, represented by Gbenga Adefaye; and Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, represented by Moshood Erubami.

At a press conference on Friday in Lagos, a pressure group, Value and Integrity Group, accused Mr. Dokpesi of having turned the NEDG into a private estate put at the service of President Goodluck Jonathan and his Peoples Democratic Party.

“Our investigation reveals as follows: First, a First Bank account was opened for the NEDG and had Dr. Dokpesi as the sole signatory, though he is not listed as one of the Directors,” the group said in a statement signed by Sina Odugbemi and Popoola Ajayi, Coordinator and Secretary respectively.

“He also used the DAAR communications office address, a personal address as the address listed in the bank account documentation. These two moves effectively turned the NEDG into Dokpesi’s private company.”

According to the group, an initial N1 million was paid into the said NEDG account, and on March 28th, 2011, another N20 million was paid into his (Mr. Dokpesi’s) personal account.

“The N20m was paid into his personal current account number 2017171535 because the NEDG account opening was in process then hence he received the N20m in his personal current account instead of NEDG,” the group said.

“A text message from Dokpesi to the banker confirms this. The text message reads – ‘He sent about N20 million to the account since last week and I utilised about N50 million for the NEDG DEBATE. As soon as the sponsors pay, I will pay in.daar'”

The group, brandishing copies of Mr. Dokpesi’s bank account opening documents and NEDG’s certificate of registration at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), also said that Mr. Dokpesi tried to open another First Bank account in 2012.

“The First Bank account was opened by Dokpesi at the Maitama branch of the First Bank in Abuja with account number 2021069251 with Chief Raymond Dokpesi as sole signatory to the account with the help of his aide banker.

“The second account which Dokpesi equally instructed the banker to open in the Bwari branch of the First bank is pending to be opened because the banker left. However, before then, Dokpesi in fact signed the application forms, attached his passport photos entered his personal details in 2012. The account was yet to be approved before one of the manager handling it was eased out of the bank.”

‘Sole organiser’

The NEDG began organising election presidential debates in 1999 and describes itself as a coalition of broadcast organisations, civil societies and professional groups committed to entrenching enduring democratic cultures through organised television debates.

“The Nigerian Elections Debate Group has since transformed into a broad based non-partisan, non-profit making organisation with the primary mandate of organising and hosting live televised debates for all Presidential, Vice Presidential and Gubernatorial candidates in Nigeria,” the NEDG stated on its website.

But in their press briefing on Friday, the Value and Integrity Group described the NEDG as the non-profit wing of DAAR Communications, available to do the bidding of the ruling party and which had kept other NEDG directors in the dark about their financial transactions.

“An Organisation on the board of the Group, Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), had last year dissociated itself from the planned Presidential debate. TMG accused the organisers of the debate of fraudulently using its name in the promotion of the event and warned NEDG to desist from such shenanigan forthwith.

“Chief Dokpesi’s name does not reflect in the NEDG registration documents from the CAC only that of DAAR representative, Tony Akiotu. But Chief Dokpesi has opened the account in his name and went ahead to single handedly organise the 2011 election debate with AIT staff – Imoni Amarere and Nancy Ilo as moderators.

“Again, he is accused to be the sole organiser of the 2015 presidential election debate for the NEDG which has generated unpleasant credibility crisis for the NEDG.
“It is alleged that for the 2015 debate, well over 250 million has been paid to the organisers by the Presidency.

“Unfortunately, the refusal of the leading opposition to attend the integrity deficit presidential debate, AIT has chosen to unprofessionally attack and even defame both the candidate and the party.”

In January, the All Progressives Congress said it would not participate in the presidential debate organised by the NEDG, accusing the organisers of bias and “wearing the toga of government control, especially being composed mainly of agencies and allies of the incumbent PDP administration”.

The parties involved
When PREMIUM TIMES contacted Mr. Erubami, who was the Chairman of TMG when NEDG was incorporated, he said issues like that did not arise during his time at the helm of the civil society organisation.

“I only know to the extent of the time I was chairman of Transition Monitoring Group, but I have completed my time and I’m now at Ibadan, I don’t know anything about the group again,” Mr. Erubami said.

“If you want to confirm the veracity of what has happened you can contact the current chairman in Abuja.”

Ibrahim Zikirullahi, the current Chairman of TMG, was more forceful in his response, accusing the NEDG of lacking integrity and being involved in ‘shady deals.'”

“While I cannot authoritatively say whether Dokpesi is the only sole signatory, I will also say that the claims (of the Value and Integrity Group) are not far from the fact,” Mr. Zikirullahi said.

“I became chairman of Transition Monitoring Group in July 2012, till date, nobody informed me that TMG is a member of the Nigeria Election Debate Group, neither my predecessor nor those that are holding fort at the Nigeria Election Debate Group.

“Between 2012 and now, there was no meeting that was called upon which to deliberate on any issue regarding Nigeria Election Debate Group until now when I saw our name being floated in the media that we are one of the organisers of the presidential debate.”

Mr. Zikirullahi accused the NEDG of using TMG’s name to send out proposals to foreign donors seeking support for the presidential debate.

“So as far as I’m concerned, I don’t know anything about the debate. No phone call has been made to me or to any of my officers, no written invitation, and there is no meeting between us in which we agree on the mode and scope of the debate,” he said.

“So for me I cannot allow them to be using our corporate identity. It was on that strength that I wrote to them asking them to stop forthwith using our corporate identity.”

Mr. Zikirullahi said that he had it “in good record” that the NEDG had already collected billions of naira from a political party.

He declined to name the party.

“Yet, to make it credible they are just sending out proposals to donor agencies, and those donor agencies we have a very good relationship with them. And before they do anything that they see our name they need to verify from us.

“And it was on that stretch we got to know the extent to which they have gone to. If not they should mention the source of their funding,” said Mr. Zikirullahi.

“A lot of shady things they are doing that is not known to the public, and I said under my regime we cannot be part of that hidden agenda. It’s better they come out open let us know the direction they are going, let us know the source of their funding?

“Who is running the secretariat? How is the board being appointed? From 2011 till now there is no meeting that has been called. So it’s just a one man show, I can agree especially, it is a product of AIT and Dokpesi and so for us you have to count us out at any time we are not part of it.”

‘It’s not true’

Eddie Emessiri, NEDG’s Executive Secretary, dismissed all the claims, accusing Mr. Zikirullahi of dabbling into partisan politics.

“High Chief Raymond Dokpesi has no hand (in NEDG), or let me put it better, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi was even the founder of this whole thing because he started election debate in 1999,” Mr. Emessiri said.

“By the time NEDG was formed, a group of organisations now decided to get this thing over, and he handed the management over to Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON.”

Mr. Emessiri explained that the chairman of BON at any particular time was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NEDG.

According to him, the headship of BON is rotated between the three federal government-owned media of Nigeria Television Authority, NTA; Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN; and Voice of Nigeria, VON.
The current head of NEDG, Sola Omale, is the Director-General of NTA.
Before him were Taiwo Alimi of VON and Abubakar Jijiwa of FRCN.

“The only thing Raymond Dokpesi does, or used to do, or even now is simply we contact him and tell him please we need airtime, we want to do this, and he’ll just give his final approval, ask his Group General Manager, Tony Akiotu, to give us every support that we require,” said Mr. Emessiri.

“And that is why they have given us airtime to carry everything, all their stations anywhere they are we want to advertise anything. And they are the hub of the production.

“Raymond Dokpesi does not even attend our meetings. How then can they say Raymond Dokpesi is the person who directs NEDG.”

Mr. Emessiri denied claims that Mr. Dokpesi was a signatory to NEDG’s bank account.

“I am the Executive Secretary of the organisation, I manage the bank account and the bank account is Zenith bank. Come to Zenith Bank, Area 7, Abuja, and find out. That is the only account that we have,” he said.

“The First Bank account was the account that they ran many many years ago and we don’t use that anymore. It was at the very beginning when Raymond Dokpesi founded the organisation, even before 2003. We never used that in 2007, we never used that in 2011, not to talk of now.

“We moved over to Zenith Bank when the chairmanship of the organisation went to VON. And VON also has account in Zenith bank, that particular branch.”

Mr. Emessiri insisted that the NEDG had been having meetings, adding that TMG was part of the group but he doesn’t know “what got into the head” of Mr. Zikirullahi, its current chairman.

“He didn’t look through the books he had to know that the former chairmen of TMG were full time members of NEDG and present in every of our meetings. This man has taken over, because he has a bent on politics he started criticising.”

PREMIUM TIMES also contacted Mr. Dokpesi, who vehemently denied all the claims, particularly the allegation that he collected billions from a political party on behalf of NEDG.

“Which politician ever gave me money? Which politician ever gave me money?” he asked.

When told that some newspapers had already run the story on how he was using the NEDG as a private estate, Mr. Dokpesi said he had not seen the publication yet.

“I’m in Edo North at this point in time. Election is next week, I’m busy in my senatorial district so I do not know what you are talking about,” Mr. Dokpesi said.
“But you say there is a publication, they can publish anything they want. Before they invited you to a press conference I’m sure they already had what their considerations are.

“NEDG is a group that started the debate in 1999. DAAR Communications and I have always wanted a debate in Nigeria since 1999. Almost single-handedly, it is part of our budget.

“In 1999 when we held the debate in Lagos all the media people (that) are existing how did they contribute? When we held in 2003 was it not the same DAAR Communications that funded it? When they held in 2007 was it not DAAR Communications that supported It? When they did in 2007, did they not see It?

“Why is this one the particular one that is now an issue?”

Asked if he carried other board members along in NEDG’s activities, Mr. Dokpesi responded, “What do you mean whether I carry? Who do I have to carry? Mr. Gentleman, understand that there is a chairman, NEDG, in the person of Aremu Taiwo Alimi. There is a chairman Board of Trustees of the NEDG, that was Jijiwa but it’s now DG of NTA. They have their Board of Trustees, what is my role in It?

“I have no problem. I know that…. Who are these Integrity Group? Who are they made up?

Mr. Dokpesi also denied the claims that he single-handedly ran the account of the NEDG.

“So why don’t you find out, they have an Executive Secretary of NEDG, whether I know anything about the account?

“I have no apologies. I can understand. I’ve told you I’m in Edo north at this present time.

“Whatever is the issue it is good, if the fear of Raymond Dokpesi is the beginning of wisdom now, may God Almighty help Nigeria.”

Nairaland GeneralIntroducing Goodluck: Nigeria's Provincial Baby President. J.J. Omojuwa by Crown01(op): 12:21pm On Mar 18, 2015
People who say, “President Goodluck Jonathan has done nothing!” are not being truthful, but those who take it literally are even more guilty. Jonathan has done something.
In November 2013, I travelled into Nigeria and wrote about the mess that was the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on this column. Sixteen months later, that same airport is very far from being world class but it is a long travel from the seamy dump of shame it looked like that November. I also believe that his administration has not done too badly with Information and Communication Technology. There are people who believe the successes in agriculture are more noise than substance but I am of the view that agriculture, while still very far from where it ought to be, has seen some improvements in terms of the process involved in helping farmers access extension support. It may sound like a campaign catch but that we didn’t have a famine after the 2012 flooding is credit to the work done by that ministry. Sports haven’t been stellar but you can’t say, “nothing has been done” here either. A former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, achieved great things. So yes, Jonathan has done something. If you make a six-year old-child president, s/he also would get some things right in five years because someway, somehow, someone in his government would just decide to leave her own legacy behind and not mind the incompetence of the “baby president”.
However, President Jonathan’s failings are not as much about what he has done as it is about what he has not done. One believes the most important attribute of leadership is caring; Goodluck Jonathan does not care about the people. He is a provincial, insensitive, callous, selfish, clueless, top-of-the-range incompetent President who woke up one day with power and has spent half a decade still wondering what to do with it.
If you followed the Chibok girls’ abduction, you’d see the only reason Boko Haram successfully abducted the girls and still has them is because President Jonathan and his crew of “na our turn” handlers refused to believe the girls had been abducted. It took over two weeks for the President to acknowledge this. The cost of that delay is the reason almost a year after, the girls remain in the custody of their abductors.
President Jonathan refused to visit Nigerian soldiers in Borno State until he had to visit the state to campaign. He then made one visit to the state just before his campaign visit; to deflect the criticisms that’d come from being seen as visiting Borno just for elections and not to meet with the citizens who had been burdened by insurgency for years. It was a callous act on the side of the President but it was consistent with his attitude.
When 59 boys were murdered by Boko Haram at the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, President Jonathan and his handlers not only did nothing, they said nothing. The President only sent the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Abdul Bulama, one whole year after the tragic incident, to convey his “grief” with the parents. One year after? That is diabolical! Note this is not yet about the President failing in his sworn responsibility to protect the people of Nigeria – he has so failed that Nigerians themselves no longer care to expect him to be responsible on that front – this was the President not caring to commiserate with the parents and relatives. This is not only a failure of leadership; it is a failure of President Jonathan’s humanity.
A day after a bomb blast that killed over 200 people – government claimed 75 people but eyewitnesses including an online news medium stated otherwise – in Nyanyan, on the outskirts of Abuja, President Jonathan was pictured actually dancing “Skelewu” alongside a renowned northern artist, Sani Danja, while welcoming former Kano Governor Ibrahim Shekarau back to the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party. This happened last April. People say Nigerians suffer from collective amnesia but is it so chronic 11 months are so far into the past we cannot remember what happened? The late human rights activist, Bamidele Aturu, said at the time, “It is plain insensitive, really. It is an evidence that the leadership of this country does not take our lives seriously at all,” and few will argue against that statement even today.
You would think the President has learnt his lessons since all of the above and others too numerous to mention happened, he has not. Last Sunday, 80 people were killed as the Fulani and Agatu clashed. Instead of at least making a statement, the President chose to spend the time wining and dining with celebrities in Lagos. No word, no action. When 12 people got killed by terrorists at the Paris office of the satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, President Jonathan commiserated with the people of France, while on this same day about 2,000 people were killed at Baga – government claims the numbers are far less but no claim of it being less than 150 people – yet the government offered no commiseration, condolence or the usually tepid “we will bring the perpetrators to book” statements that both the spokesperson and the person who was being spoken for have never believed would happen.
This President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, does not care! There are many facts to back this statement up but if the above tragedies are not enough to make the point, the point would never be made with a countless other examples.
Remember that the fuel price increase of January 1, 2012 could have been done any other day and month of that New Year. What sort of a person looks at the first day of the year and decides to take such a decision? Many still have sad stories about how returning to their bases post-Yuletide season was tougher than anticipated. The President – two weeks to the elections – is announcing a joke 30 per cent reduction in certain salaries. This promise was made three years ago when Nigerians marched against his government. Nothing happened in three years. He also promised to cut on his and his aides international travel expenses; check, the numbers have only increased since then.
You would see the President has been running around over the last four weeks – since the elections were postponed – to see if he can turn the tide. He took all of us for granted in the past because he never envisaged there would be an alternative to the PDP. Until these elections, no political party stood a chance of beating the PDP at the presidential poll. The All Progressives Congress was expected to crumble latest by December of 2014 when it held its presidential primary. Miraculously and against the usual order of opposition politics, the party came out of that even stronger. It was then and only then that Jonathan began to see that he stood a chance of losing the election. It was then and only then did he remember he had a country to preside over.
As he meets with Yoruba Obas, celebrities and those who claim to be youth leaders, amongst other interests, let the ones brave enough ask him: in a sane world, would he even be a candidate to run again after all his failures? This is Goodluck Jonathan, and there is no rational argument available to vote this man as President. He has done enough and not done enough to show that he took Nigerians for granted. His cup is full; it is time to let someone finally pay for this mess we have come to get used to. The power is in your hands!

Twin explosions on Saturday evening rock one of the camps accommodating thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri metropolis.
The incident took place at about 6:15pm shaking many houses and structures around Maduganari ward, Ramat Polytechnic institute and other nearby communities.
Saturday, last week, multiple explosions rocked different locations including two major markets and motor parks in the metropolis living over 100 people dead with scores injured.

Unconfirmed revelation from sources said the incident took place at Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School, while other sources said, the incident occurred at Arabic Teacher’s College, unfortunately both schools which share the same fence have now became camps accommodating some IDPs in Borno.

Another source revealed that “the explosions were safely detonated by security operatives at Yewa Secondary School located at the heart of the city after discovering that it was planted by insurgents to cause havoc in the camps”.

PoliticsI Would Rather Resign Than Insult Buhari". -PDP Chairman Tells GEJ Campaign Team by Crown01(op): 12:37pm On Mar 14, 2015
The recent rumours within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over the supposed abrupt resignation of the party's national chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu may have not been completely false as was earlier claimed by the PDP in their official press release.

Information obtained from a competent source near the PDP national chairman indicates that the national chairman had announced his resignation to the leadership of the Jonathan presidential campaign team following a heated ‘argument’ over the new campaign strategy adopted by the PDP presidential campaign team – and his unwillingness to play along in their dirty politics.

Available information reveals that Muazu was asked to resign from the seat of PDP national chairman because he refused to join “the train of those insulting Buhari”.
And, according to a source who spoke to Muazu, the embattled PDP chairman was willing to walk away from the seat if the PDP insist on having him resign over his unwillingness to be critical of Buhari. “If PDP wants me out, I am ready to throw the cap away”.

The members of the presidential campaign team had agreed to pep up their campaign strategy in a manner to go after the integrity of the APC presidential candidate, Mohammadu Buhari and to expose the alleged skeletons that may exist inside his closet. But the national chairman of the PDP – who was reported to be in agreement with the frontal approach on the APC top boss, Bola Tinubu – was however not in agreement with such approach being adopted for the presidential flag bearer.

“He [Mu'azu] called their bluff,” said a source within the PDP national working committee. The PDP did not anticipate Muazu’s eagerness to throw in the towel and accept his sack in defiance to their request of him to be critical and vocal against Buhari.
“It caught them by surprise and they had to do a retreat away from their demand for him to resign”. The PDP presidential campaign team are not willing to undergo the crisis that the resignation of its national chairman would generate.
For this reason, the PDP backpedaled quickly with an apology to the national chairman. It took the intervention of the Emir of Bauchi, Malam Adamu for the national chairman to consider the apology tendered by the PDP presidential team.

Crime60 Year Old Traditional Healer Pastor Rapes 14 Year Old Daughter Of His Patient by Crown01(op): 7:45am On Mar 14, 2015
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old pastor who doubles as a traditional healer, Mr. Udo Job, for raping a 14-year-old daughter of one of his patients.

The girl had visited her sick father when the man sexually assaulted her.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Gabriel Achong, who was represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, said the pastor sent the girl’s mother to the market and lured
her into his room and forcibly defiled her.

Punch reported that parading a number of other rape suspects, the police also brought before journalists 11 secondary school students who gang-raped a 19-year-old girl in an open market at Esit Eket.

Not done, they later took the girl to their room where they continued the assault.

The culprits, mainly secondary school students of National High School, Esit Eket, in an interview with journalists confessed to the crime.

Also paraded was a rape suspect, Iniebehe Ebong, who allegedly overpowered a 10-year-old girl on her way to a stream to fetch water.

The police said Ebong tied her legs to a tree, taped her mouth shut and repeatedly raped her until the girl fell unconscious and he left her in that state.

The girl was said to have been rescued by a passerby who took her to a hospital.

Another set of rape suspects, Kenneth Udofia (20) and Ifiok Mark (29) were paraded for defiling a nine-year-old native of Ikpat Akpan village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of the state.

“The girl was sent to buy kerosene by her mother when she was whisked away by the duo to their room where they gang-raped her a number of times before throwing her out,” the police commissioner said.

PoliticsSouth West Youths Denies Endorsing President Goodluck Jonathan by Crown01(op): 11:22am On Mar 13, 2015
A group called the South West Youth Stakeholders’ Forum has dissociated itself from the purported endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by a section of youths in Ondo State.

The youths, who stormed the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ibadan, in their hundreds, said they were not in support of the meeting convened by Governor Olusegun Mimiko at Adegbemile Hall, Akure, where a section of youths with little representation purportedly diverted a post-confab summit into an “orchestrated endorsement of President Jonathan.

“We will not but extend our sincere disagreement and displeasure with the said post-confab summit chaired by erstwhile respected Professor of Agricultural Economics, Dupe Olatunbosun, who took time to show his dancing skills at the event while being ironically referred to as a youth at age 74, only for him to denigrate the person of General Muhammadu Buhari who is even two years younger than him as being old and not fit for public service,” the youths said.

Addressing newsmen on the topic: “Youths Jointly Say No To Lies of Endorsement,” the leader, Babalola Ayodeji, called on the youths from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States “to keep the fire burning as we yearn for the much desired change in the political administration of our country.

We wish to bring into remembrance an event that held exactly a week ago at the Adegbemile Hall of the Cultural Centre, Akure convened by Governor Olusegun Mimiko where a section of youths with little representation across board and commensurate inducement purportedly diverted a post - confab summit snowball into an orchestrated endorsement of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for a second term in office.
We will not but extend our sincere disagreement and displeasure with the said post confab summit chaired by the erstwhile respected Professor of Agricultural Economics, Dupe Olatunbosun who took time to show his dancing skills at the event while being ironically referred to as a ‘youth’ at age 74 only for him to denigrate the person of General Muhammadu Buhari who is even two years younger than him as being old and not fit for public service. While we have done well to follow varying reports of this conference which initially gave an impression of a post confab youth where salient regional cum developmental issues particularly relating to the future of the Yoruba nation were to be discussed simply became another avenue for the crass politicking that the PDP is known for.
It is also not forgotten that the national confab only accomadated 18 Youths out of almost 500 delegates which indeed showed that the Federal Government has little regard for our future as we were represented by less than 5percent of total delegates. We dare ask, which serious Country plans for her future while committing such minute participatory roles to its younger generation? This is even as these handpicked youths, particularly the ones who supposedly represented the Yoruba Youths at the National Conference unarguably only went in to lace their pockets with the national cake and played insignificant roles as they had and still have little or no following within their respective states and in their entire zones. This undoubtedly cast enormous aspersions on the credibility of the report of such confab.
For us, these issues are beyond the convocation of a national conference and the possibility or otherwise of the implementation of its report. It is more about the over 250 Girls who have disappeared and till date still missing from Chibok; It is about the gruesome killings of the Buni Yadi School Children; It is more about the continued number of unemployed youths who roam the streets of Nigeria looking for jobs after their National Service; it is about the businesses of young Nigerians that fold up due to lack of stable power supply; It is about the lack of good water supply and hospitals for the masses; It is about the marginalization of the South West in the policy of Nigeria vis a vis appointments.
To this end, we wish to state categorically that while we bear no grudge towards anyone, we are not without a thought for our future as this is currently being shaped by history from the past and the actions and inactions of the current administration. We wish to put it on records that only a few selected youths attended the said post confab endorsement – meeting; As vibrant youths of Yoruba land, We are highly disappointed with the turn of events at the summit which simply smirks of desperation by the People’s Democratic Party. We nonetheless, wish to unequivocally dissociate ourselves from and refute any such endorsement.
We have said and we keep saying that we do not need a national confab to secure our country, we do not need a national confab to provide power and water to millions of impoverished Nigerians, we do not need a national confab to address the rather embarrassing heights of corruption which has reached an all – time high under the present administration, we do not need a national confab to provide adequate learning facilities in our tertiary institutions as well as hospitals and neither do we need a national confab to see visible projects of the Federal Government in Yorubaland.
Conclusively, we wish to assure the youths of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States to keep the fire burning as we yearn for the much desired change in the political administration of our country. While we remain sticklers for peaceful and non – violent polls and are indeed ready for the use of card readers as planned by the INEC under the astute leadership of Professor Attahiru Jega, we ask that fellow young Nigerians remain resolutely committed to using the power of our thumbs to vote out mediocrity on March 28th, 2015 and April 11th, 2015. We are devoted to a progressive and positive change and we shall continue to work with all our strength towards achieving a better nation where we will be proud of as Nigerians.

Signed

PoliticsRe: What Buhari Failed To Tell UK Audience - Femi Fani Kayode by Crown01: 7:30am On Feb 27, 2015
Noneroone:
The spokesperson of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has stated that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress,
Muhammadu Buhari, has failed to inform his audience in the United Kingdom how he loves the extremist group, Boko Haram.

Mr. Buhari spoke at Chatham House in
London Thursday where he stated that if elected, he would restore Nigeria’s lost glory.

In his reaction via a press statement, Mr. Fani- Kayode said it was amazing that Mr. Buhari refused to participate in a debate in his own country but was ready to go to a foreign country to sell his message in a desperate attempt to curry favour with the people of that country.

“We wonder whether General Buhari told
his foreign audience whilst he was in
London how much he loves Boko Haram,” he said.

Boko Haram has been terrorising the people of Nigeria, with reports saying the terrorist group has killed over 13,000 Nigerians since 2009.

Mr. Fani-Kayode also said he wondered
whether the former head of state told his audience that he once said that he believed that ”an attack on Boko Haram is an attack
on the north” and that the Boko Haram
terrorists should be appeased, pampered, resettled and paid allowances.

“We wonder if he told them that he was
once nominated by Boko Haram to be their spokesman and representative during proposed negotiations with the Federal Government,” he said.

The PDP presidential campaign
spokesperson said he was surprised Mr. Buhari did not tell his audience that he was the one who ordered and organised the “violent injecting, crating and disgraceful kidnapping of a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the name of Alhaji Umaru Dikko from the streets of London 31 years ago when he was in power”.

He said the president’s campaign would
express its views about Mr. Buhari’s “stage- managed show of shame at Chatham House at a later date” and, that at that time, more details would be provided.

“For now, all we can say is that it is truly pitiful that a former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria believes that it is more important to win the hearts and minds of the British than it is to win the hearts and minds of the Nigerian people.

“General Buhari can run to any foreign
country in the world to say anything that he likes but at the end of the day the decision as to who will lead Nigeria as from May 29th this year will be determined by no one else but the Nigerian people. The game is on
here and not in London,” he said.
