Checking the phones may only be lawful if there is a warrant obtained from the court of law. A phone isnt a gun... It cannot pose a threat to life.. Why dont you try your luck with a judge and see if he will grant you warrant because you saw a young man that dresses well or has a car. When did these become attributes of fraud?. You want to prosecute financial crimes.. The EFCC want to prosecute financial crime, the ICPC wants to prosecute financial crime.. Why dont you "protect" life and property rather than assault and invade?.. In my opinion checking of personal effects without a warrant is ultra vires.

having stayed in Nigeria from a while and having understood the political landscape, i will say Lagos state governor is a tribal-list , i went through his commissioners lists and other positions, i could not find any ibo on the list, please, isn't this bad for a state that the ibos control virtually every aspect of the economy, what if the ibos decides to park their belongings and go back to East wont this affect Lagos state ?

Please i need the help of experienced people and lawyers in the house for purchasing a property in Lagos.
So recently i decided to purchase a property in Lagos at Agbara area, after negotiating the price with the seller i asked for the land documents, the documents which were handed over to me were the Receipt from Original family owner of the land, Survey plan and the deed of assignment,
what i am worried about now is that in the deed of assignment, there is a clause that states that the original family leased the land for 70 years to the person who wants to sell the property to me now, though currently there are flats with tenants on the said land. attached is the image of the deed of assignment.

So please experienced Nairalanders, i need to know if that 70 years clause will affect me in the future before i can decide to proceed with the purchase.

from my limited knowledge of the law, whatever land you're buying from whoever you are buying from is operating on a 99 year lease from the government which legally should return to the crown's (government) title after 99 years. The family "leased" the land for 99 years so upon your purchase you should continue on the "lease" to the family. However i do not think this should be a problem because in the real sense the government wont take your property after the 99 years. There is no land in the whole Nigeria that belongs to an individual we all tenants to the government that is why if the government finds oil on your land you will only be compensated and the land taken over as the government is the original owner of the land so the oil isn't yours. Id advise you to get a lawyer to authenticate the title of the land and work out your deed of transfer. I hope you get the property. I stand to be corrected as no one knows all. Cheers
