'Anyone else at home Karen.', I ask my glued to the TV sister as I dump my bag on the sofa. 'Nope. Just me. As usual.', she says not even looking at me. I always wonder how she gets good grades but she's the one person I always ask for advice. Seriously she's pretty smart with relationships for a 13 yr old kid. I grab a bottle of orange juice from the fridge and go sit next to her.
'So.', I begin.
'So what?', she asks.
'So I got invited to Megan's party but she said to bring a partner and Martins stuck with Susan and I can't ask Scot because we just broke up. So what do I do?', I ask her.
'Just wait.', she replies.
'Wait for what?',
'Duh... Kate. You're a cute girl. A guy is surely going to ask you to go with him.', she says looking at me like I'm a dumb 15 yr old. Well I can be dumb sometimes.
'What if they don't? ', I ask.
'Then they're all blind.', she says flashing me a smile. 'Thanks sis.', I say getting up and walking into my room taking my bag with me. I put it on my nightstand and I'm about to take off my clothes when I realize my windows are open and the curtains drawn. I go over to close them when someone catches my eye.

'Class dismissed!', the teacher orders and everyone starts leaving. Just as Katy's about to walk through the door, I hold her arm and pull her back. I don't know why I did it. I just did. She turns scowling and it's then it hits me that I had no good reason for stopping her. 'Um... where are we supposed to meet... for the project... um... I'm new so I don't know...', I stammer. 'Hold it idiot. Give me your number.', I'm too stunned yo speak. 'You have a phone. Don't you?', she asks jolting me back to reality. 'Of course.", I reply. 'It's 65-3456789', 'Got it', she says pushing a strand of hair out of her face. 'So I'll call you....', she says clearly asking for my name. 'Leo.', I say flashing a smile. 'Leo', she repeats milling the word around like it's some sort of strange language. 'It's short for Lionel.', I say again and she nods. 'Well then. It wasn't a great pleasure meeting you Lionel Davis.', she says walking away. 'It wasn't a great pleasure meeting you either.', I reply. She smiles. 'I guess we're even', she says walking away.

'Well then everyone, switch positions.', the teacher says and I notice everyone changing their seats. 'She means you should seat with your partner.', the girl beside me explains getting up. I look at the front. My scowling partner is making absolutely no attempt of moving towards me so I decide to go meet her instead. That's when I also notice the seats are arranged in pairs which are slightly separated from others. Is this a school or a matchmaking center? 'Hey, what's your name?', I ask the girl who was sitting beside me before. 'Sabrina.', she replies with a smile. 'Nice name.', I say returning the smile. She goes red. 'Thanks.', she replies. 'Who's your partner?', I ask. She points at the blonde haired boy my partner had just winked at a few minutes before. 'I thought he was partnerless.', I say surprised. 'Oh don't mind Katy and her antics.', Sabrina says laughing. 'Katy. Is that her name?', I ask again. 'No. It's actually Kaitlin. Some people call her Katy or Kate or Kat for short.', Sabrina says looking at the front. 'Nice having a name that people can change.', I say walking forward. 'Yeah. I'll see you later.', Sabrina says walking swiftly to meet her partner.

I prop down on the seat next to Katy. Yeah I think I'll call her Katy. It's been five minutes and so far so good because she hasn't scowled... yet. The teacher finishes talking and starts handing out star charts. When she gets to close to 'us', I raise my hand. 'Yes, Mr Davis?', she asks. 'Ma'am will it be a collective or partner thing. That is, will you set a place for all of us to read the stars, or will we do it ourselves. With our partners of course?', I ask. 'As much as I would love to set a place for you. I'm afraid Mr Davis, that you will have to do it yourselves.', she says motioning towards the whole class. Students start murmuring. 'No objections!', she snaps and the whole class goes quiet again. She hands us or chart and moves on. I hand it to Katy who looks it over and frowns. ' I hate astronomy.', she says quietly. 'Actually it's very interesting once you get to know it.', I blurt out and the look she gives me makes me wish I had just kept my mouth shut. 'Tell me about it.', she says sarcastically. '

'Actually I can if you give me the chance.', I reply surprising both myself and her. 'You're as stupid as you look. Aren't you?', she asks after a minute.
