Nigeria’s headline inflation rate dropped to 22.22 percent in June 2025, down from 22.97 percent recorded in May, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released on Wednesday, July 16, by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) “On a year on year basis, the Headline inflation rate was 11.97% lower than the rate recorded in June 2024 (34.19%),” the NBS stated Despite the annual drop, the agency noted a slight uptick in month on month inflation “On a month on month basis, the Headline inflation rate in June 2025 was 1.68%, which was 0.15% higher than the rate recorded in May 2025 (1.53%) This means that in June 2025, the rate of increase in the average price level was higher than the rate of increase in the average price level in May 2025” The NBS also reported that food inflation stood at 21.97 percent year on year in June, a significant drop from the 40.87 percent recorded in June 2024 “This was 18.93% points lower compared to the rate recorded in June 2024 (40.87%),” it said “The significant decline in the annual food inflation figure is technically due to the change in the base year” However, food prices rose month on month “On a month on month basis, food inflation rate in June was 3.25 percent — up by 1.07 percent compared to May 2025 (2.19 percent),” the agency said “The increase can be attributed to the rate of increase in the average prices of Green Peas (Dried), Pepper (Fresh), Shrimps (white dried), Crayfish, Meat (Fresh), Tomatoes (Fresh), Plantain Flour, Ground Pepper, etc” “The average annual rate of Food inflation for the twelve months ending June 2025 over the previous twelve month average was 28.28%, which was 7.02% points lower compared with the average annual rate of change recorded in June 2024 (35.3%),” the report added Geographically, food inflation on a year on year basis was highest in Borno (47.40 percent), Ebonyi (30.62 percent), and Bayelsa (28.64 percent) States with the slowest year on year rise were Katsina (6.21 percent), Adamawa (10.90 percent), and Sokoto (15.25 percent) On a month on month basis, the steepest increases were recorded in Enugu (11.90 percent), Kwara (9.97 percent), and Rivers (9.88 percent), while the slowest or even negative inflation rates were observed in Borno (-7.63 percent), Sokoto (-6.43 percent), and Bayelsa (-6.34 percent).

Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank beat a U.S. citizen to death, according to local officials, during a Friday confrontation between a group of Israelis and Palestinians. A municipal official and a relative of 21-year-old Sayfollah Musallet confirmed his death to NPR. Musallet was born in Florida and was in the village of Sinjil this week visiting family. The Israeli military said that a confrontation had broken out between Palestinians and Israelis, and officials were investigating reports of a Palestinian civilian killed. A U.S. embassy spokesperson confirmed Musallet's death. Israeli officials rarely prosecute those accused of violence against Palestinians, and when they do, a very small percentage end in conviction. The U.S. Department of Justice has faced criticisms from its own attorneys for the "glaring gap" between how the agency investigates crimes committed by Russia and Hamas, as opposed to accusations of crimes committed by Israel and its citizens. Since the deadly Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas against Israel that killed some 1,200 people and resulted in the kidnapping of several hundred more, tensions between Palestinians and Israelis have been on the rise, even among the civilian population. Israel's response to the attacks has resulted in the deaths of more than 55,000 Palestinians – over half of whom were women and children – and left more than 127,000 wounded. MIDDLE EAST As ceasefire talks drag on, more die every day in Gaza And Israel's unrelenting siege in the region has resulted in a humanitarian crisis that has pushed health and welfare infrastructures in Gaza to the verge of collapse. Despite widespread condemnation by some world leaders of Israel's heavy-handed retaliation against Hamas, the United States continues to provide funding for the 21-month-long conflict. Last month, the Trump administration said it would dedicate $30 million to an Israeli-backed program to control Gaza's limited food supplies that the United Nations has described as a "death trap." Ongoing attempts to negotiate a ceasefire have so far proven unsuccessful.

New Delhi: Fuel control switches to the engines of an Air India flight that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 260 people, were moved from the "run" to the "cutoff" position moments before impact, a preliminary investigation report said early Saturday. The report, issued by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), did not offer any conclusions or apportion blame for the June 12 disaster, but indicated that one pilot asked the other why he cut off fuel, and the second pilot responded that he had not. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was headed from Ahmedabad in western India to London when it crashed, killing all but one of the 242 people on board as well as 19 people on the ground. In its 15-page report, the investigation bureau said that once the aircraft achieved its top recorded speed, "the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec". "In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so," it said. The aircraft quickly began to lose altitude. The switches then returned to the "RUN" position and the engines appeared to be gathering power, but "one of the pilots transmitted 'MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY'", the report said. Air traffic controllers asked the pilots what was wrong, but then saw the plane crashing and called emergency personnel to the scene. Investigation ongoing Earlier this week, specialist website The Air Current, citing multiple sources familiar with the probe, reported it had "narrowed its focus to the movement of the engine fuel switches", while noting that full analysis will "take months -- if not longer". It added that "the focus of the investigators could change during that time". The Indian agency's report said that the US Federal Aviation Administration had issued an information bulletin in 2018 about "the potential disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature". Though the concern was not considered an "unsafe condition" that would warrant a more serious directive, Air India told investigators it did not carry out suggested inspections as they were "advisory and not mandatory". Air India was compliant with all airworthiness directives and alert service bulletins on the aircraft, the report said. The investigations bureau said there were "no recommended actions to B787-8 and/or GE GEnx-1B engine operators and manufacturers", suggesting no technical issues with the engines (GE) or the aircraft (Boeing). The bureau said the investigation was ongoing, and that additional evidence and information has been "sought from the stakeholders". Boeing said in a statement it will "continue to support the investigation and our customer", adding "our thoughts remain" with those affected by the disaster. Air India said it was "working closely with stakeholders, including regulators." "We continue to fully cooperate with the AAIB and other authorities as their investigation progresses," it said in a statement on X. The UN's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) stipulates that states heading an investigation must submit a preliminary report within 30 days of an accident. US and British air accident investigators have taken part in the probe. The plane was carrying 230 passengers -- 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian -- along with 12 crew members. Dozens of people on the ground were injured. One passenger miraculously survived, a British citizen who was seen walking out of the wreckage of the crash, and who has since been discharged from hospital. Health officials in the Indian state of Gujarat initially said at least 279 people were killed, but forensic scientists reduced the figure after multiple scattered and badly burnt remains were identified.

Softmirror:Tinubu is a mere mortal abegi We (Nigerians) too like to involve God in the simplest of things. As a matter of fact, God doesn't want to get involved because he gave us (humans) free will and I believe that free will is for a purpose. A typical proof of God doesn't get involved in Nigeria politics is Pastor Chris Okotie who claimed God told him he was going to be the next president during a previous election BUT pastor wasn't even in top 3 😂 |
Peter Obi's media team are just dumb aswearugod. Even if you dont knkw much about your political employer, you can just easily do your due diligent research so as not not make your employer look stupid when answering interview questions. |

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received new applications for the registration of seven political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. The electoral body said the list released so far is an update on additional requests from associations seeking registration as political parties. This was disclosed by INEC in a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee on Thursday. “Since last week, seven more applications have been received, bringing the total number so far to 129. All the requests are being processed. “Unlike the manual method used in previous registration, the Commission is introducing a political party registration portal which is a module in our Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS). This will make the process faster and seamless. “In the next one week, the Commission will conclude the final testing of the portal before deployment. Thereafter, the next step for associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage will be announced. The Commission will also issue guidelines to facilitate the filing of applications using the PFRAS,” Olumekun said. He further stated that the list of the new associations has been uploaded to our website and other platforms for public information. Below is a list of the new parties seeking registration with INEC: 1 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Protem chairman – Professor Ibrahim Modibbo Protem Secretary – Professor Emmanuel Adekunle 2 National Peace Congress Party of Nigeria (NPCP) Protem chairman – Tahir Omada Protem Secretary – Not Indicated 3 Alliance for Transformation Mandates (ATM) Protem chairman – Not Indicated Protem Secretary – Not Indicated 4 Democracy for the Citizens Party (DFP) Protem chairman – Mrs. Victoria Bature Protem Secretary – Mrs. Teniola Harrison Nosa 5 African Renaissance Party (ARP) Protem chairman – Dr. Adah Edache Obekpa Protem Secretary – Dr. Femi Ajetunmobi 6 United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Protem chairman – Amedu Ben Protem Secretary – Hassanat Olatunji 7 Future Democratic Party (FDP) Protem chairman – Not Indicated Protem Secretary – Not Indicated Source: newsnow.com
