Nigeria’s First Lady Sen. Remi Tinubu on Thursday donated ₦1 billion to Plateau State under her Renewed Hope Initiative.

She emphasised that this was not a political visit, but a deeply emotional one.

While calling for an end to the bloodshed that has plagued the State for years, the First Lady declared that future visits would focus on development, not responding to tragedy.

Tinubu stated while addressing a gathering of traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community members at the banquet hall Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

According to her, “This will be the last time I will respond to such a situation in Plateau. From now on, it shall be for the progress of the state.

“This visit is filled with mixed emotions for me. I came here first as a mother, whose heart bleeds each time I hear about killings or bloodshed.

“It took me some time to respond, but I want to assure you that this will be the last time I will come to Plateau for such a reason. From now on, it shall be for the progress of the state”, she maintained.

Tinubu shared a hopeful moment from her arrival in Jos, recalling how a young girl greeted her with fruits and vegetables, calling the state “the land of peace and tourism.”

“When I arrived at the airport, I remember the little girl who came to greet me with a bowl of fruits and vegetables, saying, ‘Welcome to the land of peace and tourism.’

“I knew at that moment that God had already spoken because, as the Bible says, ‘Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings, God has ordained perfect praise.’ From the mouth of this child, there shall be peace in this land. Amen.”

Tinubu also reflected on the renewed national anthem and its message of patriotism.

“When Mr. President decided to revert to the old national anthem this year, it brought back memories of the anthem that instilled patriotism and love for this land. When we hear the second stanza, ‘To hand unto our children a banner,’ we must reflect on our actions and the legacy we leave behind.

“But when we look at the killings, the rapes, and the terror, we must ask ourselves: have we truly protected our land?” she said, urging leaders to prioritise peace and unity.

Appealing to the men of Plateau, Tinubu urged them to step up as protectors of their families and communities.

“I want to stress this: we women do not fight. We do not carry arms. But we are asking you, as men, to protect us,” she said.

“We are asking you to ensure that our children can live in peace and grow up without fear. What legacy do you want to leave behind?

“When we speak of protection, it’s not just about security—it’s about safeguarding the future of our children.”

Tinubu’s donation of ₦1 billion was announced as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, which aims to support vulnerable Nigerians.

She clarified that the funds were not from government sources but raised through contributions from individuals and well-wishers.

“I do not have vast sums of money, but what I have is meant to bring life, not to pour money into a basket, If I kept money for personal gain, it would only serve to satisfy greed. But my goal is to use the resources I have for good, for the development of this country, not to waste it.” She stressed.

“You are the custodians of this land. We as officeholders will come and go, but you will remain. Please, I urge you to bring peace to this land. God will help you to protect and preserve this land,” she admonished.

Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed deep appreciation for the first lady’s visit and donation, describing her as “a mother of the nation.”

He commended her for consistently showing compassion and support for vulnerable communities across the country.

“Her presence here today is deeply appreciated. We are grateful for her continued support and prayers.

“We remain committed to peace and reconciliation, and with her encouragement, we are confident of lasting peace”.

Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Thursday announced that the military has killed scores of “high profile” terrorists and apprehended 1,191 others across various theatres of operation in the second quarter of the year.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Marcus Kangye, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Abuja, adding that the troops performed exceptionally well during the period under review.

He stated that several notorious terrorists were eliminated, including: Amir Abu Fatimah, Kinging Auta, Abdul Jamilu, Salisu, Mallam Jidda, Maiwada, Mai Dada, and Nwachi Eze, otherwise known as Onowu.

“Just two days ago, bandit kingpin Yellow Danbokkolo succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with troops the previous week, where many of his lieutenants were also eliminated,” he said.

The military, he said, equally arrested several notorious gunrunners and kidnappers, including: Buhari Umar, Hassam Mohammed, Saleh Sani, Adamu Dan Mai, Idi Yusuf, Hassan Bello, Muhammed Isah, Shimu Adamu, Ismaila Hassan, Michael, and Shittu Muazu.

Similarly, the troops rescued 543 kidnapped victims.

Gen. Kangye emphasised that the military has sustained operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements who have posed serious threat to national security and socio-economic activities.

He noted that the quarter under review also witnessed mass surrender of Boko Haram and ISWAP/JAS terrorists due to troops’ overwhelming firepower, with about 682 terrorists and their families surrendering to troops during the quarter.

The troops of Operation Delta Safe, he added, foiled oil theft worth over N3.5 billion, recovered over 10,000 litres of DPK, and 26,905 litres of PMS.

He expressed appreciation to the field commanders and their men for their determination and resolve.

“We want to assure Nigerians that the Military and all security agencies observed our Code of Conduct for Internal Security Operations (ISO), Laws of Armed Conflict, and Rules of Engagement (ROE),” he stated.

The head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog says recent US strikes on Iran did not completely dismantle Tehran’s nuclear capabilities, warning that Iran could resume enriching uranium “in a matter of months.”

This directly challenges former President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the strikes set Iran’s ambitions back by decades.

Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), indicated that while the attacks caused significant damage, Iran’s industrial and technological infrastructure remains largely intact.

“They can have, in a matter of months, a few cascades of centrifuges spinning and producing enriched uranium,” Grossi told CBS. “It is clear that there has been severe damage, but it’s not total damage.”

Grossi’s remarks align with early assessments from the US Defense Intelligence Agency, suggesting the strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites likely delayed the program by only a few months.

The 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran began when Israel launched attacks it said were aimed at preventing Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran maintains its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes. The US later targeted three critical Iranian nuclear sites before a ceasefire took effect.

Despite Trump’s assurances that nothing was moved ahead of the strikes, initial Pentagon reports indicated Iran may have relocated some enriched uranium. Grossi noted, “It’s logical to presume that when they announce protective measures, this could be part of it. But we don’t know where this material could be.”

Grossi also emphasized that the IAEA had not seen evidence of an active Iranian nuclear weapons program but had long-standing unanswered questions about traces of enriched uranium found at undeclared sites. “We were simply not getting credible answers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament has moved to halt cooperation with the IAEA, and officials have suggested reconsidering the country’s membership in the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which bars signatories from pursuing nuclear weapons.

Grossi underscored the need for continued international inspections to ensure transparency, warning that the situation remains fragile.

On the Fox News programme Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, Trump repeated his claim that Iran was “weeks away” from making the weapons before Israel attacked on June 13. Nine days later, the US targeted Iran’s top three nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

Both US intelligence and the United Nations nuclear watchdog have ascertained that Tehran was not building a nuclear arsenal. Iran has long insisted that its nuclear programme is for civilian purposes only.

While Trump has said that the sites were “obliterated” by the US bombers, in the wake of the attacks, several major news organisations, citing intelligence sources, have reported that the US strikes did not destroy the facilities.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Monday that it was unclear what damage had been sustained at the Fordow plant, which houses the bulk of Iran’s most highly enriched uranium needed to make a nuclear weapon.

On Sunday, IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said Iran could restart uranium enrichment in a matter of months, while Trump insisted over the weekend that the attacks had set Iran’s nuclear ambitions back “by decades”.

According to an IAEA report last month, Iran has more than 400kg (880lb) of uranium enriched to up to 60 per cent purity, close to the roughly 90 per cent weapons grade – which is enough, if enriched further, for nine nuclear weapons.

Trump told Fox News that the news outlets questioning the efficacy of the attacks he ordered and lauded were spreading “fake news”.

“It’s just horrible and I could see it happening, and they [news outlets] tried to build that into a story, but then it turned out, no, it was obliterated like nobody has ever seen before and that meant the end to their nuclear ambitions at least for a period of time,” Trump said.

Right from time I have always been a user, care less about people but myself and whenever I get into trouble I always expect others to help me out and I do get into trouble and they certainly will.
