Sports › Adonbelivit! Leicester City Are Top Of The English Premier League Table by cybermic007(op): 5:06am On Nov 22, 2015
History was made today! Forget the woes of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, forget the tipsy-turvy relationship Arsene Wenger has with winning matches at Arsenal, forget the star studded over half a billion pounds assembled team called Man City.

Today November 21, Leicester City have gone top of the English Premier league. Leicester City, who just came in from the championship have exceeded their wildest expectations this season so far, and this weekend they leapfrogged over Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City into first place in England following a win away at Newcastle.

Sports › Chelsea Fans Come Here, This One Is Directly At You! by cybermic007(op): 1:31pm On Nov 19, 2015
This is not supposed to be a guide to failing Managers like Mourinho. It is not even a piece of advice; it’s merely some rant by me, a Barcelona fan, who derives pleasure from seeing Chelsea and Mourinho play badly. For the Chelsea fans who have the privilege (or misfortune) of reading reading this piece; this is my opinion, not Nairaland

With that said, let’s get down to it, shall we?

Career Lesson One

Story:
Chelsea FC have only won ONE Champions league trophy and I remember vividly that after that final, the only set of football fans who ‘had the right’ to speak at viewing centres were Chelsea fans. The rest of us dared not, even though at the time fans of FC Barcelona, Manchester United, FC Bayern, R.Madrid, Juventus and a few others had won (or celebrated winning) that same trophy multiple times. But Chelsea got it once and all hell was let loose; they just wouldn’t let us rest anymore.

Again, Mourinho is famous for repeatedly insisting that Arsene Wenger is a ‘specialist in failure’. The guy sees every pre and post match press conference as an opportunity to rant, complain and insult the person of Arsene; that’s more like his favorite pastime. Well, I bring good news; the dude called Mourinho now wins just one match in every month. Now, who’s the specialist in failure? I can’t laugh abeg.

Lesson:
Enjoy your success, but don’t rub it in the faces of other people.

Career Lesson Two

Story:
Chelsea sacked the only coach to have ever gotten them the Champions league trophy (what Mourinho would never be able to do for them) just a season after. The guy was dismissed like he never did anything good for them — the same idiotic way some bosses dismiss their secretaries/typists after a small typo.

Fast-forward to 2015, Mourinho in his characteristic autocratic manner ‘disciplined and dismissed’ the pretty, affable and reliable team physio, Eva Carneiro over some flimsy and almost irrelevant on-field situation. By the way, the Physio was clearly doing her job by attending to the injured Chelsea player– I think it was Hazard…or err Fabregas; can’t really remember, I hardly watch Chelsea matches — they bore me.

Need I remind everyone that that was the beginning of the slump for Chelsea and Mourinho. Apparently, the lady wasn’t just a Physio, she was very integral to the team, she had some influence and even though her impact might not have been very visible on the surface, they only had to let her go to realize their folly. There are people like that in every team. I like to believe that that event affected the team morale and see where they are on the table today — too low for me to even see.

Lesson:
Don’t Sack Your Eva Carneiro.

Career Lesson Three

Story:
Mourinho has a terrible attitude: he blames everyone but himself when things go awry. Many examples come to mind, but one is fresh. When Chelsea lost to Southampton earlier this season in the premiership, Mourinho cleverly brought in Matic, a defensive midfielder, when he needed to score. Now Mourinho perhaps had seen that that match was a lost cause and wanted to take the media attention away from him. Guess what the ‘special one’ did: baba brought in Matic, waited for Chelsea to concede an inevitable goal and almost immediately removed Matic again.

Now the uninitiated in the mind-games of Mourinho would not easily understand that move, but I will enlighten you. By removing Matic after Chelsea conceded that goal, Mourinho cleverly diverted media attention away from himself, and summarily made the Matic the scape-goat by simply making it appear like Matic was responsible for that goal and he had to be removed. In the end, most people blamed Matic, not Mourinho for the loss.

Lesson:
Prepare for downtime. Things will not always go right and when they eventually go wrong, don’t
push the blame to others, take responsibility and man up.

Career Lesson Four

Story:
Mourinho has a consciousness of self that is unrivaled. The man exhibits the highest form of self-love (or selfishness). When he first came to Chelsea after winning the Champions league with Porto, the guy ceremoniously announced to the English media that he was ‘the special one‘. He had a brilliant spell thereafter. Correct me if I’m wrong, I think he later announced himself as ‘the only one‘ (can’t remember if that was in England, Italy, or Spain).

Frankly, Mourinho is a great coach and winner. But the guy doesn’t just praise his teams as much as one would expect especially as his success is largely tied to the efforts of his players. Mourinho however takes more of the accolades for himself. Mourinho competes with his star players for glory and attention.

Lesson:
It’s okay to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done, but it’s better when you do
more of same to your team. You might be special, but you equally need a great team to succeed.

Pheww…that’s all folks!

Crime › Early Start ‘I Started Robbing When I Was 7′ – Suspect Tells Police by cybermic007(op): 1:20pm On Nov 18, 2015
Yusuf Lawal, a 20-year-old armed robbery suspect
arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, shocked
officers and journalists that he started his robbery
expedition at the early age of seven, reports Punch.
Lawal, also known as Eletu, was arrested alongside his
19-year-old sidekick, Taju Alabi, alias Kolo, at the Ebute
Meta area of the state, with the police describing them
as some of the deadliest and merciless robbers that
have been terrorising the state.
The duo was arrested by officers of the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad (SARS), attached to the State
Department of Criminal Investigation, while patrolling
Kadiri and Kano Streets in the early hours of Monday,
November 16, when they heard a cry for help and on
storming the areas, police discovered that a group of
robbers, numbering 19, were operating in the community
at the time.
The police, while responding to the call for help,
arrested 20-year-old Lawal who was said to be
dispossessing a victim of money, phones, and other
valuables while his accomplice stabbed the victim and
fled the scene.
Lawal, a father of one, told the police he is an only
child said he started with petty robbery and refused to
stop even after his father had told him to.
“I am the only child of my parents. I grew up not
knowing my mother, who died when I was still a child. I
don’t know what my father does for a living.
My father could not correct me because I always
overpowered him whenever he attempted to do so. I
later ran away from home and started living with a
friend in Idi-Oro, Mushin.
I started robbing when I was seven after I quit primary
school. My friend, Sule, introduced me to robbery and
we always went out to rob residents. We stole phones,
money, and other valuables.
Also, we usually rob very early in the morning. I will turn
a new leaf if the police can release me.”
His partner in crime, Alabi, denied knowing Lawal and
never participated in any robbery operation with him, but
a confrontation ensued between them as they
exchanged words.
“On two different occasions, I stole phones and gave
them to you to sell, which you did and we later shared
the money.
You saw me living large and you asked me for the
secret, and I told you. We have been doing this together
so tell the truth. When we were robbing people, you
should have known this will be the end,” Lawal said.
Alabi, confronted with the reality, subsequently owned
up, adding that he had only gone for three operations.
“Yes, he’s my friend and we have been friends since
childhood. We met at Mushin. I work at a car-wash and
I am also a bus conductor. I have only stolen three
phones. It is true that we rob people.”

Politics › Fayose, Others Should Return To Elementary School – Minister by cybermic007(op): 5:49am On Nov 17, 2015
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has suggested that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and others kicking against President Muhammadu Buhari’s Treasury Single Account policy should return to elementary because they have failed to understand the workings of the policy.

“Those behind the rumour that a single company made N25 billion from charging one per cent of TSA funds that passed through the company’s software, may need to return to elementary school to get some lessons in arithmetic,” he said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr Segun Adeyemi, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

“This is because in order for one per cent charge to fetch N25 billion, the funds accruing into the TSA must have reached N2.5 trillion.

Yet, the total amount of funds in the TSA to date is still much less than 2 trillion.

“More importantly, at the time the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) ordered that all monies that were erroneously charged as ‘revenue’ be returned to the TSA Account late last month, the TSA had less than N800 billion.

“It therefore beggars belief that anyone could attempt to mislead the public by raising a false alarm that a firm made N25 billion in TSA charges.”

Mohammed appealed to Nigerians not to allow those who had been funding their lavish lifestyles and encouraging corruption, to the detriment of ordinary citizens and without bothering about national interest.

He said the accusation was to sabotage the laudable TSA programme with contrived lies, dangerous innuendoes and misinformation.

It would be recalled that Fayose , in a statement on Sunday, declared that he would not be part of the meeting the Federal Government was to hold with state governors on the TSA because the policy itself was a fraud against Nigeria and its people as it is aimed at recouping money spent on the last general elections by the APC, as well as raise money for future elections, especially the Kogi and Bayelsa States gubernatorial poll.

Fayose also asked the Federal Government to expose those behind REMITA so that Nigerians would know those “through whom the All Progressives Congress, APC, is siphoning Nigerian money to fund Kogi and Bayelsa States governorship election.”

He added that System Specs the company that manages TSA made N25 billion.

Education › LASUTH Performs Its First Kidney Transplant by cybermic007(op): 7:29am On Nov 13, 2015
Thursday, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, became one of the hospitals in Nigeria that offers kidney transplant services following a successful kidney transplant on a 56-year- old man in Lagos.
The life-saving procedure which took two and half hours was the first of its in LASUTH.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Wale Oke, said the successful kidney transplant was part of the state government’s promises to deliver excellent healthcare services to the people of Lagos State. He added that several consultations were made before the surgery to make sure that the patients were well selected to avoid complications after the exercise.
He said: “But thank God today, both the donor and recipient are in sound health,"
Oke explained that the patient, who was at the end-stage renal disease, was selected for the maiden surgery, and after about six-hour surgery (organ harvesting and implantation), the operation was successful.

The elated CMD said:
“LASUTH has come of age and we are glad. We are able to harness what we have and so we will continue to improve on infrastructure. Kidney transplant is not free; it cannot be free, but with us doing it here, the cost will be affordable (compared to traveling to India or United Kingdom for operation).”
The Chief medical Director assured Lagosians that the hospital will continue to bring excellent and special services at the hospital.

The leader of the transplant team, a Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. Jacob Awobusuyi, said the initiative was conceived three years ago.

He said that the latest of several services offered in the hospital would help stop the trend of patients going to India and returning with complications that often eventually kill them.

Awobusuyi, said that the patient, who is still recuperating in the ward, had to be persuaded to have the operation here in Nigeria instead of India.
So after a year of dialysis, the patient came up with his nephew as a donor which made LASUTH medical team start the operation.
He said that both the 56 year old recipient and the 26-year-old donor expressed concern before the surgery but that they were both relieved and happy after the successful operation.

“It is fare that everyone is given a chance to eat and I believe that my turn to eat has come. It is hypocritical to lie to the people that you are going to serve them yet your appetite is directed at the jumbo moneys that belong to Mwananchi. Most of these leaders are elected to positions pencil thin yet, after three months in office; their waists grow from 18 inches to 80 inches. Is this not hypocrisy? Instead of concentrating on national infrastructure, they concentrate on stomach infrastructure”

Sports › Suspended FIFA President SEPP Blatter Hospitalized by cybermic007(op): 8:48pm On Nov 11, 2015
Sepp Blatter, the suspended president of soccer’s world governing body FIFA, is spending the week in a Swiss hospital following a stress-related incident, according to his personal spokesman Klaus Stohlker. Blatter, 79, had originally undergone tests and planned to stay home, but his doctors elected to keep him under observation in hospital over the weekend, said the spokesman.

Stohlker added that Blatter, who is serving a 90-day suspension imposed by FIFA’s disciplinary body in October, is doing well and “fully working on his fight against the ethics committee.

In a statement relayed by Stohlker on Wednesday, Blatter said: “I’m the elected president of FIFA, elected by the FIFA Congress and its 209 members, and no committee can replace me.” Blatter, who has denied any wrongdoing, is accused of making a “disloyal payment” of 2 million Swiss francs ($1.99 million) to Michel Platini, who is currently suspended from his role as head of European soccer, in 2011, and cutting a television rights deal that was detrimental to FIFA.

Politics › Falana To Saraki: Stop Attending CCT With Senators by cybermic007(op): 5:14am On Nov 11, 2015
Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has urged Senate President Bukola Saraki to stop attending the sittings of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) with other senators.

The frontline lawyer noted that it was illegal and unlawful for the Senate President to suspend Senate’s sittings whenever his case was to be heard at the CCT.

Besides questioning the political will of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to fight corruption and impunity in the country, Falana said the action of the Senate and its President was an assault on the nation’s collective morality.

In an address, titled: As Corruption Fights Back, delivered on Monday at the investiture of Mr. Dare Oseni as the 2015/2016 President of the International Association of Lions Club, Lagos Isolo Lions Club, at Samkoll Graden, Idimu, Lagos, Falana noted that Saraki violated Paragraph 1 of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

The paragraph states that ”a public officer shall not put himself in a position where his personal interest conflicts with his duties and responsibilities”. Falana stressed that Saraki violated the paragraph by suspending Senate’s sittings to enable him to attend court sittings in company of fellow senators.

He said: “If this morally despicable behaviour is not halted, the distinguished senators may soon resolve to appear in the various courts in the country in solidarity with other members who are facing terrorism and corruption charges.

“As the Senate President, Dr Bukola is required to preside over the affairs of the legislative house in the discharge of its constitutional duty of making laws for the country. Attendance at court sittings in solidarity with any criminal suspect is certainly not part of the constitutional responsibilities of the senate.”

The frontline lawyer averred that it was wrong to allow public servants facing corruption allegations to remain in office in the course of the trial.

He said the proper thing was for such officers to step aside, pending when they would be cleared of such allegations.

According to him, paragraphs 303, 404 of the Federal Government Public Service Rules (Corrected Version 2008) stipulates that when a public officer is charged to court with a criminal offence he/she shall be interdicted and cease to report for duty until the determination of the case.

Falana noted that this contradicted what he called the misleading impression by some lawyers that public officers accused of corruption could not be asked to step aside.

He said: “During the period of interdiction the public officer concerned shall be entitled to 50 per cent of his/her entitlements provided that if he/she is discharged or acquitted, the officer shall be immediately reinstated and receive his/her full entitlements which have been denied him/her during the period of interdiction.”

Politics › PDP Apologises To Nigerians, Says It Made A ‘mistake’ by cybermic007(op): 5:06am On Nov 11, 2015
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has admitted that it made a mistake in not allowing proper contest during the primaries that produced former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The party also apologised to Nigerians for its mistakes during the 16 years it presided over governance in Nigeria.

In a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman of the National Planning Committee of the conference, Dr Raymond Dokpesi, also condemned what it called the selective anti-corruption war of the present administration.

The PDP also alleged witch-hunt of its members.

Many Errors Committed

In the last General elections, the PDP not only lost the Presidency to the then opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), it lost its majority hold in both chambers of the National Assembly and many states that hitherto, were considered its stronghold.

Mr Dokpesi attributed the defeat to many errors committed by the party and its leadership, but asked Nigerians to forgive and forget the past.

He said, “We are aware that there were errors we made. We admit that we made mistakes and we have not met the expectation of Nigerians and we tender unreserved apologies for these mistakes.

“You must have seen Ike Ekweremadu’s report on why we are apologising. There was no internal democracy, there was impunity within the party and there was no level-playing ground for members of the party.

“Zoning principles of the party were abandoned and a gamut of all other issues, which would come out during the conference and for all these and the people who have been offended, for people whose toes were stepped upon, we also tender unreserved apology.

“We Are Begging”

“These are the reasons we are begging and apologising. We want to assure every founding member of the party that we deviated from their visions, and that’s why we are going to have all our founding fathers like Adamu Ciroma, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and other members of the G.34, to come and talk to us at the conference.

“For every and any mistake we have made, I therefore say, we tender our unreserved apologies”, he added.

Sports › Moment Cristiano Ronaldo Was Slapped By Real Madrid President (photos) by cybermic007(op): 10:11am On Nov 04, 2015
Television cameras caught Real Madrid Florentino Perez waiting for star player Cristiano Ronaldo as he arrived at the stadium with the rest of the players for Tuesday's crucial champions league clash with Paris St Germain. Florentino Perez could be seen asking the forward about a recent interview he gave German magazine Kicker, in which he hinted that he might not stay at the club.

The president gave him a playful slap as he questioned Ronaldo, who looked less than amused and walked away saying: 'What did I say? I never said that. I said it differently,' he said as he made his way to the dressing room.

Ronaldo looked a shadow of himself in the first half and wore a gloomy look in the opening minutes of the game. After the match he was seen whispering into PSG's coach Laurent Blanc's ears with rumours swirling he could join PSG next year or even return to England.

PSG president Nasser El-Khelaifi was interviewed after the match and refused to rule out a move for the three-time Ballon d'Or winner. He said: 'Ronaldo has a contract with Real and we respect that. Negotiations would be in secret but nothing for now.'
