Politics › N8bn Has Been Refunded To Govt Treasury – Melaye by cybermic007(op): 11:15am On Dec 17, 2015
Senator Dino Melaye has said that the federal government has recovered N8billion and believes that more monies will be refunded in a short while.

“As I speak to you, about N8billion has been refunded to the treasury of government and I know more monies will be refunded”, he said.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Senator Dino Melaye said, “Basically, I want to say that when I raised this motion on the floor of the Senate, I got a lot of insults on social media, everywhere, that I was blabbing and there was no truth in the content of my presentation.

“But I tweeted that the truth has no colour and every lie has an expiry date.

“I want to thank God that I have been vindicated by the public hearing where my revelations on the floor of the Senate have given room for confession even by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor, Godwin Emefiele”.

While answering a question on how he got an insight into the alleged illegality and exorbitant commission charged for the deployment of Remita, the senator said, “I will want to say that the Treasury Single Account (TSA) is a very laudable programme which is going to help in blocking leakages and I support it.

“My prayer on the day I moved the motion was to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for the implementation of the TSA, but I was challenging the instrumentality of the TSA, that it is being used by some individuals to undercut Nigerians and our national patrimony”.

Senator Melaye had argued that the use of Remita was a violation of Section 162(1) of the constitution, which stated that “the federation shall maintain a special account to be called the federation account into which all revenues collected by the government of the federation except the proceeds from the personal income tax of the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the ministry or department of government charged with foreign affairs and the residents of the FCT, Abuja”.

He further stated that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) could only appoint a registered bank as an agent for collecting and disbursing the funds.

The senator said that since Remita was not a bank, its appointment as a collection agent was in violation of the CBN Act and the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2007.

Giving his view on the amount he would recommend for private bodies for doing government jobs, Melaye said that “the Senate is geared towards blocking leakages and also negotiating to the barest minimum, the advantage of Nigerians and the national treasury.

“We are not saying that private companies engaged in almost all platforms used by the government shouldn’t be paid, but what we are saying is that nothing outrageous should be paid at the detriment of our national purse”, he said.

The minister said that the event was part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts and commitments to provide safe and affordable means of mass transportation in Nigeria.
According to him: “The Nigerian Railway Corporation has completed the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line B segment of the narrow gauge Eastern rail line from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and the line is ready for commissioning and commencement of operations.”

The Chairman Senate Committee on Land Transport, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, described the service as a signpost of seriousness of the Federal government to reinvigorate the railsway systems in the country.

Crime › Fresh Trouble For Dokpesi As Efcc Traces More Funds Nearing N10bn Paid To Him by cybermic007(op): 9:10pm On Dec 08, 2015
The dilemma of the former Chairman and founder of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi seems to have widened with more discoveries by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), There were hints last night that the EFCC had discovered that Dokpesi will have to account for about N10 billion votes for publicity. A source said: ”We have been trying to reconcile records with Dokpesi and he has about N10 billion to account for.” Apart from the payment of N2.1 billion, a highly-placed source within the Commission listed more issues against Dokpesi as follows: payment of $50 million by ex-President’s campaign organisation; alleged plot to hack into number 60959146 with Sort Code 201334 belonging to one Dr. Haggai I. Ali with Barclays Bank, Queens Road Branch and Bristol, UK; alleged indebtedness of about N3.3 billion to Fidelity Bank out of N7.5 billion; operating DAAR Communications account alone despite the fact that it is a publicly quoted firm; and over-payment of more than N8 billion for the transmission of U-17 Junior World Cup (2009) and non -payment of dividends to shareholders. The source added: “So far, Dokpesi has to account for over N10 billion and he has been confronted with some evidence which he admitted were some of the transactions he engaged in. “We have discovered that Dokpesi was paid N8,047,275,290.99 on January 27, 2012, through account number 2017679134 with Maitama branch of First Bank Plc. We have proof of acknowledgement by the bank on January 28, 2012. “In spite of the fact that the technical facilities used for the World Cup belonged to NTA, Dokpesi presented a bill which varied from N5 billion to N3.5 billion between 2009 and 2010 to N8.047 billion. “Records showed that ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua rejected the bill and the National Broadcasting Commission advised against the payment of such outrageous amount.” Asked when the suspects will be arraigned in court, the source simply said: “Very, very soon".

Politics › At This Point Only God Can Save Buhari – Dogara by cybermic007(op): 8:55am On Dec 08, 2015
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has urged politicians especially President Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressive Congress, APC,-led administration to embrace God as a requisite for success.

Dogara insinuated that talks and faint human effort as revealed in APC’s defence and attack mechanism is inadequate and can hold no moss without God and the peoples support.

He disclosed this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, in Abuja when he visited Keffi, Nasarawa State, to condole with the family and state Government over the death of the Emir, Chindo Yamusa II.

The APC led administration in the last 6-months has shamelessly failed to nail any of the numerous problems that have bedeviled the country.

These problems cutting across the economy, security challenges, petrol scarcity unemployment power failure, have only escalated without a blueprint for meaningful progress.

The ruling party has continued to be embroiled in playing the defence and attack game with the opposition and paid little or no attention to issues hampering the nation’s progress.

The Speaker stressed that the change mantra campaign of the APC can only be actualised with the citizens support and prayers for the government to succeed.

“Nigeria needs divine wisdom and intervention for the present crop of leaders to address the challenges facing the country.
“Even when we have good intentions, we cannot achieve anything without the support of the people.

“There is no human wisdom that can take us out of this quagmire except divine wisdom from God Who is all-knowing. That is the only way out,” Dogara stated

In essence Buhari’s numerous foreign trips across the continent on the claims of seeking high profile solutions from world leaders which has attracted wide criticisms may have no effect without support from Nigerians.

He further urged the people of Nasarawa State to emulate the life of the late monarch, who he believes left a legacy of peace.

“Peace is becoming a very rare commodity, particularly in the North, without peace; there cannot be any meaningful development in the society.”
“Everybody knows the situation we found ourselves especially in the North,”He added.

Politics › Bayelsa: Nigeria Under Buhari Is Becoming A Shame – Fayose by cybermic007(op): 10:40pm On Dec 07, 2015
The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has raised the alarm that Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari was fast becoming a shame.
Fayose described the alleged failed attempt by the All Progressives Congress to manipulate the Bayelsa State governorship election as clear invitation to anarchy.
The governor, who said it was shameful that the two elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission under Buhari’s kinsman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, were inconclusive, called on all well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to rise up in condemnation of the APC government’s plot to destroy democracy in the country.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose who said everything under Buhari was becoming inconclusive, adding: “If in three days, INEC could not conduct credible election in Bayelsa State of just eight local governments, one wonders what will happen during the general elections in 2019. The simple reality is that INEC under this Buhari’s kinsman, Prof Yakubu, who is fast becoming the classical example of incompetence cannot guarantee free and fair elections in this country.”
He saluted the courage of the people of Bayelsa State, describing them as “worthy heroes of democracy that stood their ground against agents of darkness that were prepared to short-change them by imposing a governor they do not want on them”.
Governor Fayose also congratulated the Bayelsa State Governor and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Seriake Dickson, for having the people of the state behind him, adding: “The people of Bayelsa have shown that their power is more than that of the Abuja political oppressors.”
He urged the governor and the people not to lose their guard, saying: “Now that they have failed in their bid to use one local government to rig themselves to power, they will surely go back to their evil drawing board to plan fresh assaults.
“Therefore, Bayelsa people must henceforth sleep with their two eyes opened because the APC thieves come not only to steal, but to kill and that can be seen in the way and manner they murdered over 20 people just because they wanted power at all cost.”
While warning on the consequences of destruction of the legacy of free, fair and credible electoral process bequeathed on Nigeria by former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Fayose said: “Nigerians, especially we in Ekiti State are already taking a cue from the Kogi and Bayelsa States experience and are getting prepared for future elections.”

Romance › My Father's Advice To Me When I Was Searching For A Wife... by cybermic007(op): 6:22pm On Dec 07, 2015
My son, I will be very raw and sincere with you. Do not worry about the size of a woman buttock or breast but worry about the size of her heart and brain. Worry about the size of her love and endurance. Because after 5 or 10 years, it will not be about the breast or buttock. As you can see, your mum now has a flat chest and almost flat buttock but we still live together happily, I still love her and she still love me. Be careful of a woman that loves money. I mean the woman that talks ‘every time’ about her hair, cloths, shoes, bags panties and make-ups. Marriage is not all about these things. Without make-up, cloths, shoes and panties a good marriage will still stand but without love, no marriage can stand. When I got married to your mum, I didn’t have a car or house of my own. I was not even educated. But I had dreams and she appreciate and support me. Any woman that does not support your dream is not worth thinking-a- minute about. There are women that will see your dreams better than you, you are lucky if you find one, My son, open your ears very well, there is a kind of woman you should avoid, do not make a mistake to marry this kind of woman or you will regret it. I mean a woman that always has bad things to say about everyone. If you see this kind of woman, run away. One of the worst kind of woman you can marry is the one that complains about everything. If you buy this, she says you should have bought that, if you do this, she said you should have done that. Please stay away! Most women enjoy talking but the one who talks for two hours and listen for two minutes is a potential ‘bomb’. Be wise Be very careful of a pretending partner. A pretending woman is not hard to know. She will always know everything about everything, she will be careful. Just close your eyes and open your heart and you will see! No woman is perfect. If you see a woman who believes in your dream , who respects you who is committed and who is not all about herself alone then don’t let her go. But remember, you must not be a wayward man. I have trained you! If you find a good woman but you are a bad man, you wont have a good marriage! I won’t pick a wife for you but I have given you my advice. When you find her, bring her for my blessings. May you find a woman that will increase you not decrease you..

Crime › Photo: 54 Year Old Man Arrested By RRS For Swindling Lagosians by cybermic007(op): 2:12pm On Dec 06, 2015
Press statement from RRS
A 54-year-old man, Michael Bisa, who is an expert in swindling members of the public by disguising to be selling a mobile phone, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). He was arrested along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway over the weekend at about 17:50 hours when the police suspected his movement on sighting him. Items such as fake phones, key soap cut to size, shirts, sum amount of money, packet of envelopes and cut to size cartons were recovered from him.

He is a native of Delta State and confessed to the crime. He claimed that it was poverty that led him into the act of defrauding innocent public. He explained the tactics that he uses to swindle his victims under false pretense, “What I usually do is called Exchange. My prospective victims will have the mind of buying handset from me but unknowingly to them I would have changed the real handset to soap wrapped with cut to size carton put inside an envelope. I will engage them in discussion after showing them real phone initially, and in the process of bargaining for the price, I will change it with the aid of white handkerchief to fake phone. And I will tell them to keep the phone inside their pockets immediately that people are watching us…. He narrated further", As soon as they left the spot, I will change my clothe to another for uneasy recognition in case he discovers the trick in miles away that he has been duped.”

The suspect, who had fathered four children from three different women, further explained "I was a refrigerator technician in Uvwie LGA, Effuru in Delta State. I came to Lagos to look for greener pastures about 15 years ago, but my expectations were dashed when situations got so hard for me in the center of excellence. I met one guy then, Hakeem Tijani, he is late now, and he was the one that introduced this act of stealing to me. Since that time, about 4 years ago now, this act of stealing has been my only source of livelihood… My first wife taught me how to smoke all sorts of hard drugs including cocaine. She died sometimes ago from the complications she suffered due to much intake of hard drug", he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Joe Offor, warned the general public to be weary of individuals and shops where they purchase their mobile phones in order not to fall victim of con men. The suspect was charged to court immediately.

Crime › Dismissed Police Officer, 1 Other Arrested For Vandalizing Man-hole (photo) by cybermic007(op): 9:11pm On Dec 02, 2015
Read the press statement below...
In a renewed effort to rid Lagos State of criminals, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad yesterday arrested a dismissed police officer and one other person for vanfalizing and stealing man - hole cover. The suspect, Earnest Young (30),, who co incidentally is a son of a retired Deputy Superintendentbof Police was arrested with his accomplice, Rasheed Tiamiyu, (20), on Eko Bridge around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Young hails from Yala Local Government in Cross Rivers. He was arrested in possession of man – hole covers , vandalized and stolen on the Eko Bridge.

Young stated that, he and his accomplice trekked from Ijora Under Bridge to Eko Bridge to steal the man hole cover. He added that they were in search of food when they saw the man – hole cover, which they planned to sell to cart pushers.

He explained that his accomplice, Rasheed Tiamiyu, a primary school dropout invited him into the crime, a claim Tiamiyu promptly denied, stressing that, ‘Young, rather, was the one who invited him into the crime.

‘He insisted " we steal the cover even when I protested that we leave it and that was why the cover was found in his hand. The entire plan was all his idea’, ".

Tiamiyu maintained that "despite the fact that cover was very heavy, Young insisted in stealing it with the plan to resell it to scrap metal buyers the following day" .

‘Both of us work as load carriers in Ijora. We sleep in Ijora park. We had no money to feed ourselves and he requested that go to a party in Isale Eko, and that on our way we would pick up the man – hole cover to sell to cart pushers’, Tiamiyu added.

Politics › We Know Those Behind The Friday's Bomb Blast In Kano- Leader Of The Islamic Move by cybermic007(op): 12:12pm On Dec 02, 2015
Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, says that the association is aware of those that are behind last week's bomb blast in Kano during a Muslim procession at Dakasoye village in Kano last week. Zakzaky said this while speaking at the end of Nahjul Balagha study session held at Hussainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria on Monday November 30th
“We know the names of the contractors and those contracted to commit the massacre; their identities are not hidden. Therefore, we cannot be cowed by an imaginary Boko Haram tale; let them tell it to the fools and ignorant.
They should know that they are dealing with people with foresight, wisdom and intelligence, and above all, the real religion. I refute the claim on the Kano Friday attack as the attack was manipulated to make the public believe that certain faceless group named Boko Haram were behind it. There is nothing like a suicide bomber; they tortured and drugged unsuspecting captives and made them carry the explosives which they detonated. The announcement by the Department of State Service (DSS) that there would be attacks on mosques and churches by female insurgents has given them away; how did they know about it and where it will happen? It clearly means they are accomplices to the atrocity. The perpetrators of Kano bomb attack were the same people that seven years ago in broad daylight attacked Ashura procession and killed people in Potiskum. They also killed 34 people during Quds Day procession in Zaria in 2014. In most cases, these killers carry out the offensive under the watchful eyes of security operatives, sometimes escorted by tinted glass vehicles. Last year, bombs were buried along routes of the trek, while similar episode was planned to be repeated this time around. The mass massacre of Muslims has become a vogue across the world. Who is carrying out senseless killings in Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon? They are the same people carrying out attacks here and we know them and we cannot be cowed.”he said

If he goes to court to challenge us outside of Nigeria, he would be using the money he has taken (stolen over these years) from the Nigerian people to pay expensive (pricey) lawyers outside the shores of Nigeria whereas all the evidence (s) of his corruption are based here in Nigeria." he told Premium Times

Politics › DAPPMA Depots Begin Massive Loading Of Petroleum Products by cybermic007(op): 3:17pm On Dec 01, 2015
Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMA) said its members had begun massive loading of petroleum products to ease the effect of their scarcity in the country.

Mr Olufemi Adewole, the Executive Secretary of the association, told NAN in Lagos that the loading was going on in Lagos, Oghara, Warri, Calabar and Port Harcourt where the members had depots.

Adewole said that the marketers were doing this, hoping that the payment of outstanding subsidy debts owed since August 2014 would be passed by the National Assembly (NASS).

“DAPPMA member depots that have petroleum stock are loading massively in Lagos, Koko, Oghara, Warri, Calabar and Port Harcourt.

“While awaiting the payment of outstanding subsidy debts owed since Aug. 2014, DAPPMA members have been speaking to their banks for loan facilities.

“While some have obliged and opened fresh loans to import Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), some banks claimed their external lines are fully utilised.

“All the same, we are hoping for a speedy passage of the supplementary budget and payment to marketers.

“We expect the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make adequate provision of foreign exchange to enable us pay off our foreign suppliers,” he said.

On the allegations that private depots were loading above government price, Adewole said DAPPMA members were complying with PPPRA specified ex-depot price.

NAN correspondent who monitored filling stations reported that most of independent marketers were selling between N120 and N130 per litre.

Meanwhile, few major marketers that sold the products at government controlled price witnessed long queues of motorists.

Politics › FG To Commence Registration Of Unemployed Nigerians Nationwide by cybermic007(op): 10:22am On Dec 01, 2015
In a move aimed at actualising the planned social security for the teeming unemployed Nigerians, the federal government monday said plans were underway to register all unemployed citizens across the country.

The decision came amid the slow pace by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to fulfill its campaign promise of paying unemployed graduates N5,000 as social security stipend.

The acting Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr. Olakunle Obayan, stated this during the official handover by the former Director General, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed.

Speaking on the current template to address the challenges of unemployment in the country, Obayan said: “Actually some of them (projects) are brand new and they are coming up in 2016. We are going to tenaciously pursue the employment generation activities of NDE, and we are going to expand their scope.

“This new schemes when they come on board, are schemes such that they are going to take care of the social security issues and something that will need majority of the people to get something doing.”

He stated that: Besides, we have programmes that are for the graduates of the tertiary institutions as well. We have so many programmes that have been designed such that it will improve our service delivery system.

“We are going to pursue that vigorously, we are going to start a national registration of the unemployed. That we are going to take on fully so that we will have a great idea of how many of them are around.” Obayan stated: “We have some but we are going to improve on the information we have in our data base and we are going to make sure that it is something we can access from our different locations, even if you are down in the hinterland, you should be able to do so.

“We have all these things planned in place, all these will drive as soon as I settle down which is this week and you will start seeing these activities around NDE.”

Regarding funding of such programmes, the acting DG stated that “the issue of funding is something that is hindering the NDE to even do more in meeting its mandate. How are you going to go about funding so that all visions won’t waste?

“Being in government, so many times, you have to be conscious about what goes on in your funds from here to there. Right now, we are going into PPPs so that we can extend the mileage of our funds and how many people we can reach and several collaborations as well that we are getting into.

“Some of them with the members of the national assembly, world bank, we will want to partner with DFID, ILO and so many development partners, but asides that, we try to do more in 2016 because government does not have that kind of money right now, and actually employment generation, and job creation should not be solely for government; private sectors generally, they should come on board.

“This is one of the reasons we are planning a stakeholders’ forum, where the private sector will actually know its role. It is not strictly for government, these people we train, are not only for government, they are for all.” While presenting his handover notes, Mohammed said he would leave behind an efficient workforce that had been groomed in tackling the nation’s employment crisis.

He explained that NDE has diversified into various areas in the training and mentoring of Nigerians not just for acquiring jobs but also for creating employment opportunities for other Nigerians.

Politics › Ooni Crowned In Secret by cybermic007(op): 6:55am On Nov 23, 2015
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, was early this morning crowned in a secret traditional ceremony.

The monarch will enter the palace and be received by palace chiefs.

An informed source said he would meet the press at 10 am at the palace.

The source said Ogunwusi was crowned traditionally in a confidential ceremony between 3am and 5am.

According to him, there was nothing like coronation in the Ife tradition.
He said “experts” had enlightened those in charge of the process that there could only be an inauguration for the Ooni instead of coronation.

He added: “Ooni gives crowns to traditional rulers and he is not expected to receive one like others. His crowning is usually done in secrecy or confidence, not in the open.

“And traditionally, whoever is pronounced by the kingmakers and the government becomes the Ooni. He does not need to wait till he undergoes rites and crowned before he is referred to as Ooni.”

Crime › 21 Members Of A Nigerian Criminal Organisation Arrested In A Raid By Barcelona P by cybermic007(op): 4:29pm On Nov 22, 2015
On Monday, Nov. 16, Catalan regional police launched a large-scale raid against human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women in Barcelona, Spain. 21 people, 15 men and 6 women, tall Nigerians, were arrested in the early morning operation for forcing Nigerian women into prostitution. Above is one of the arrested Nigerians

The Central Unit against Human Trafficking disclosed that the suspects are part of a criminal organisation, known as "Supreme Eiye Confraternity", that has forced more than one hundred women into prostitution since the beginning of 2014.

Investigators believe the group may have exploited dozens of women, many of whom were charged large sum of money to be brought to Spain from Africa with the promise of a job and a better life. The women, instead were forced into prostitution to repay their debts to the human trafficking ring.

The group was born in university circles in Nigeria in the 90s, and gradually became a feared criminal organisation, El País newspaper reports. "We have taken action against the local branch of this organisation, but also against some international members here." a police spokesman added.

Officers are also searching 20 properties in Barcelona, Terrassa, Sabadell and several other Catalan towns and cities. According to El Pais, this is not the first time that the Catalan police have acted against the Supreme Eiye Confraternity. In November 2011, several members were arrested on similar charges.

Politics › Nigeria On The Rise Again, Says Buhari by cybermic007(op): 9:15am On Nov 22, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Saturday in Jos that Nigeria is on the march to its glorious era in spite of insecurity and economic challenges.

He stated this on Saturday at the graduation of Senior Executive Course 37 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS) in Kuru near Jos.

Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari said that Boko Haram and other such insurgent groups around the country would soon be consigned to history.

While acknowledging that some issues of agitations by some groups and sections in the country could not be ignored, he said that creating employment opportunities would reduce the tension.

He charged the institute to conduct comprehensive study on causes of insurgency and how to build civil capacity to defeat mindless violence.

“ I want the institute to come up with policies which integrate needs of the vast majority of the populace and not just based on GDP projections. MNI’s end up in their offices after their course of study at NIPPS, without the required enthusiasm to enforce implementation of the policies they made.

“I think we must encourage ourselves and take ourselves seriously instead of doing this just to take a title. The institute will find a way of monitoring members instead of just producing high quality results which just die here.

“Let’s make efforts to see that those who implement policies use them, “ he said.

The president said that his administration would support the institute with funding, but remarked that corruption was the bane of the nation’s development.

“What has eluded our leadership is not lack of good policies but strength of character to implement them. Our problem is not legislative, but lack of political will and weak legal process- delay in the judiciary and suppression of the entire legal system, “ he said.

He, however, said that his administration would address this and other distortions in the system on which corruption of leadership thrived.

Buhari called on persons and interest groups within the country to submit to peaceful means of expressing themselves without violating the laws of the land.

No fewer than 63 persons graduated as Members of the National Institute (MNI) at the ceremony, bringing the total number of its granduands since inception in 1979 to 1,784.
