Mrphantom99:
What a cruel twist of fate!
Just because of 0.75, I couldn't get admission into Unilag last year. I decided I won't let an exam result decide my fate. I perspire to acquire my desire in 2016 and I got caught in another wind.
Is fate conspiring against me?

Just 0.75? Wow, sorry to here about that.
No. Fate is not conspiring against you. Don't give up just yet, things might just turn out good for you this year. Cheers smiley

Minister of Education Steer Clear of My Education — A JAMBite Writes

For fear of being victimized, I’ll choose to be anonymous.

When I heard about the scraping of post UTME, I did not know whether to be happy or sad. Truth be told, we young people are tired of the rigours of having to write two very tough examinations just to gain admission into higher institutions of our choice. Although this is my second JAMB, somehow I have this feeling that if not for this bottleneck that was placed in our education system in the year 2005, yours truly would have been an undergraduate by now. Examination, they say is not a true test of knowledge, but the worst nightmare is to organize a shoddy exam. I have written series of examination, right from my primary school days to the time I wrote WASSCE and emerged as the best graduating student, one thing I’ve come to find out is that people don’t pass exam by chance. However, what happened to me in this year’s JAMB is what I am yet to comprehend.

Last year, I applied for Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. When I wrote JAMB and had a score of 270, I sat down and took a closer look at the individual score I made in different subjects; I smiled because the result was a reflection of my ability. From my very tight schedule, I had to make out time to start preparing for the post UTME. Remember that it was the same year I wrote WASSCE and NECO. Honestly, I lost a lot of weight, and when Post UTME result came out, I made 250. My average for both JAMB and PUTME last year was 260. Guess what, that score was not enough to give me Law because UNN had 287 as their cut-off mark. For those of you that wrote JAMB last year, recall that JAMB came up with this idea of redistribution. That is, moving students according to their score to other schools that have less applicants. I was very happy when I heard about the idea. Of course I was happy because I knew that with my 270 JAMB score, I would have a shot at UNN, my dream school. My happiness was short-lived because JAMB later did not implement that policy. I guess that’s what they are trying to enforce this year by getting the Minister of Education, tell us, on the 2nd of this month that Post UTME has been (or should be) scraped. In my opinion, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde is in bed with Mallam Adamu Adamu. They have both orchestrated this wonderful plan. Truth be told, this is a good plan but the timing is very wrong.

Let me take you down memory lane. This year’s JAMB received a lot of criticism. Students complained that the exercise was badly organized. Some aggrieved students even took to the street to vent their anger. Unfortunately, Prof. Ojerinde who, I thought should know better came out and claimed that the demonstration that was carried out by students was orchestrated by aggrieved CBT centres that had their contract cancelled. Prof., you and I know that was a fat lie. By blaming CBT centres and lesson centres instead of accepting the ineptitude of your system and the laxity of your workers, you lost the respect I used to have for you. Prof. let me ask you a question; do you think we are fools? Yes, I know that an average Nigerian youth does not read but the truth remains that we are not fools. I may not have gotten admission into the university but I know whom I am! I am an intelligent Nigerian youth who works hard every day. God knows that I’m better than my counterparts in most part of the world, and I’m not a fool. Having tasted success in my secondary school days, I know what it is like to be a winner. Unfortunately, JAMB decided to make me look like a fool when, on March 10, I wrote JAMB at a centre in Anambra State only to come home two days after and have JAMB send to me a text message that states that I scored 232. How is that possible? I thought. After being depressed for some days, I went online to look at the details of my result. I shouted when I saw that I was given 49 in English. This is not my result, I told mum who was with me in the room.

Well, when after a month I accepted the result that was sent to me by JAMB, I vowed to do my best, in terms of preparation to make sure that I prove my worth in post UTME when the time comes. Because I’m a go-getter, I had since got a Post UTME Past Question Paper and have been marrying my textbooks ever since. So, for Mallam Adamu Adamu to wake up one morning and tell us that he has scraped Post UTME is just unacceptable, especially at this point. In my opinion, I’ll rather they scrap JAMB and allow schools conduct examination for prospective students. JAMB as a body is messing up. They should take a cue from WAEC. Remember that Post UTME was introduced to clean up the mess up by JAMB. If the Federal Government wants JAMB to assume her constitutional role, they should first of all return her to her previous glory.

I gave up a JAMB score of 270 and a post UTME score of 250 because I believed that I’ll do better this year. My friend had advised me to buy a supplementary form and shop into English and Literary Studies last year but I told him that I’d make the merit list for Law this year. I had studied very hard for JAMB but they almost killed my zeal by sending me another person’s result. Just when it seemed I’ve gotten over it, Adamu Adamu now wants to put sand in my garri. God will judge you all! One calendar year of staying at home has taught me a lot of lessons, but trust me, unlike last year, I can settle for another course in UNN but God will punish anyone who reassigns me to any other school that is not University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Apart from the issue of proximity, I’m obsessed about the school.

Finally, Mallam Adamu Adamu, if really you want to scrap Post UTME, I suggest that this year’s JAMB be remarked by a neutral body and the results obtained be checked with what JAMB sent to candidates. I also suggest you call Prof. Ojerinde to come and explain why 40 marks were added to some candidates and were later removed from that of some people. JAMB had a lot of issues and I put it to you that scraping Post UTME shouldn’t be an option until JAMB is brought to a standard.

PLS SHARE UNTIL IT GETS TO MALLAM ADAMU ADAMU

Education / Nigerian Students Abroad Are On Their Own - Buhari by cynthy2000: 7:30am On Mar 07, 2016
With the current free fall of the Nigerian currency (Naira) against the major foreign currencies (Dollar, Pound, Euro etc.), the Nigerian government under president Muhammadu Buhari has stopped the sales of forex to parents of students studying abroad.

Parents of Nigerian students abroad who just last year obtained dollar at the then official exchange rate of ₦166 are now forced to obtain the dollar at the current parallel/black market rate of over ₦300. What this means is that parents who last year paid about ₦1.6 million for a $10,000 tuition fee abroad will now have to pay about ₦3 million for the same $10,000 tuition fee in foreign Universities/Colleges or withdraw their wards.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, President Buhari while responding to a question on the challenges faced by parents with kids in schools abroad, who are now facing the possibility of having to pull their kids out, simply said “If the country cannot afford it, so be it.”

When probed further by Al Jazeera's Martine Dennis about his children who obviously will continue their studies abroad, the president said "Those who can afford it, can still afford it. But for those who can’t, Nigeria cannot afford to allocate foreign exchange for those who decided to train their children outside the country. We can’t just afford it.”
“Well, that’s the true situation we are in.”

The federal government is convinced that the high demand for forex by parents of the students studying abroad has contributed to the current free fall of the Nigerian currency.

The president also frowned on those who received foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) at the official exchange rate but divert same to make more profits.

“Anybody who is given dollars by the CBN to import pharmaceuticals and decides to go and sell at parallel market in order to make, maybe additional N100, we will pursue them and punish them”, the president vowed.

His relationship with the mysterious new girl in class, Efua. His family troubles and determination to succeed against all odds.
The novel highlighted some adolescence challenges and teaches perseverance in the midst of adversities.

With the annual JAMB UTME in mind, we at Campus Portal Nigeria decided to provide only a brief chapter by chapter summary of The Last Days at Forcados High School. We highlighted only the important points from the chapters that will assist candidates to easily answer the exam questions. Read below.

Chapter by Chapter Summary of The Last Days at Forcados High School

Chapter 1.
Jimi had just returned from a holiday in Ibadan. His father sent him there on discovery that he had kept in touch with his rogue brother, Wole, against the father's instructions.

Jimi woke up at home to a surprise. His brother, Wole, who had been banned from the house by their father, has returned. Jimi and his mother, Kemi, were happy to have Wole back but their highly temperamental and intolerable father, Kola, was not keen to have him back.

Chapter 2.
First day of new school year at Forcados High School, Lagos. Jimi re-unites with friends. Though worried by troubles at home, he resolves it's going to be his best year yet.

The school's head boy, Seyi Lawal, invited Jimi who is the health prefect to prefects' meeting with the principal, Mr Mallum, where they met a new girl, Efua, who came with her mother to the principal's office.

Chapter 3.
Efua Coker, a very attractive young girl, was brought to Lagos by her flamboyant and carefree mother, Funmi, to stay with her aunt, Moni, from where she could attend Forcados high school and complete her final year in secondary school. Aunty Moni introduced Efua to the devout Nene who in turn introduced her to Ansa and Jimi but Efua was repulsive to the boys. She also had a tough first day in school, dealing with the not-so-welcoming teachers and nostalgia of her former school, St Catherine's, Abuja.

Efua's mum influenced her admission into SS3 at Forcados High where students are not usually admitted in senior class. The teachers frowned at this because they felt new students would lower the school's usually excellent result.

Chapter 4.
Kola Solade had travelled after a bout of argument with his wife over Wole when Jimi courageously jumped to his mother's defence which further infuriated his father, Kola.

Jimi, looking for an opportunity to spend time with his brother, Wole, followed him to a strange location where alcohol, Indian hemp and prostitutes were a common sight. Jimi got upset when he ran home, after policemen stormed the joint, and discovered that Wole hid illegal drugs in his Jeans pocket.

Chapter 5.
Efua rebuffed Jimi's advances and a rather silly approach from Jolly, a pompous arts student, who in turn threatened to deal with her. Everybody in school disliked Efua for her unfriendliness. They went ahead to nickname her "The Witch". Nene tried to talk to Efua about the seeming unfriendliness to everybody but she snapped at her.

Chapter 6.
Efua visits Nene to apologies for snapping on her earlier in the day at school. She meets Nene helping her mother out with house chores as usual. Nene once again encouraged Efua to be friends with Jimi. She would later have a re-think about her suggestion to Efua considering that Jimi's attention to her had reduced since Efua arrived.

Chapter 7.
A young Youth Corper, Agbenenovi (Miss Novi) was introduced to the school by the Vice principal.
The students had their Mid Term dinner. Jimi, Ansa, and Nene played active roles in the event's planning. Jimi so much wanted to dance with Efua and in his desperation infuriated Efua the more when he bullied away little Jide who was already dancing with her and also accidentally spilled drinks on her.

Earlier, the new corper, Ms Novi, saved a fainted junior student by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him. Ms Novi and Efua would later become friends.
Meanwhile, Efua's rivalry with Jimi's current and jealous girlfriend, Caro, was on the rise.

Chapter 8.
Towards the end of the term, there was Inter-House sports competition among the four houses in the school; Tiger, Lion, Cheetah, and Leopard.
There was Carol Night organized by Nene which Jimi took interest in on noticing Efua's name on the Carol list.
Jimi won the 100 metres race for his house (Tiger), won the best athlete's trophy, and a prize for the best exam result.
Efua was involved in several interesting community programmes introduced to her by Ms Novi. The principal openely commended her on her excellent results.

At the end of the term, the friends were all happy except Ansa who failed his first term exams and dreaded his mother's rebuke who would most likely blame his failure on his paintings.

Chapter 9.
Jimi' mother had fallen ill during the first term holidays. She opened up to Jimi that she had been diagnosed of ovarian cancer. She reassured him that she will get better and that their father truly loves his boys. Ansa and Nene together with their parents visited the hospital.
Jimi is worried that his wonderful life has turned around all too sudden.

Chapter 10.
The second term had started and Jimi is downcast as a result of his mother's illness. His condition brought Efua, who has general tenderness for helpless beings, closer to him. That lightened Jimi's mood and made him happy once again.

Chapter 11.
Jimi's poor state of mind affected his performance in the football team.
His friends Ansa, Nene, and Efua had been supportive. Sometimes, they all accompany Jimi to visit his mother in the hospital.

Alas! Jimi's mum gave up the ghost on a saturday morning after a heavy rain the night before. It was a terrible experience for Jimi who wished it could all be a lie.
The incident brought the whole Solade family and relatives together, and Efua much closer to Jimi.

Chapter 12.
Mr Solade embarked upon a 5-month-long journey out of the country leaving his sons behind. As soon as he left, Wole turned their apartment to a house of commotion, always hosting parties, and forcing Jimi into illicit drugs.
The situation at home affected Jimi's concentration and performance in school. His friends decided to confront him. They all agreed that he should now stay with Ansa's family.
Meanwhile, Nene was becoming increasingly jealous/concerned about Efua's sudden relationship with Jimi.

Chapter 13.
Jimi is gradually getting over his mother's death, thanks to his encouraging friends.

Nene had stumbled upon a somewhat "romantic" letter written by Efua and addressed to Ms Novi. She misinterpreted Efua's relationship with Ms Novi and confided in Jimi.
The letter reads;
Dear Erdoo,
When you told me you were leaving, I cannot describe the utter blackness that enveloped me. I will not shy away from it any longer. I love you and I don't care what people may say or think. My Erdoo, my Miss Novi, mine. Whenever we talk and hug each other I believe I'm in heaven. You are the most fascinating woman in the world.

Chapter 14.
Efua's letter was leaked in school and she became a laughingstock. She and Ms Novi were summoned by the principal.
Following Ms Novi's denials, the principal cautioned her, stating that she is familiar to her students more than is expected of a teacher. The principal then sent Efua home for the day and demanded to see her mother or guardian.
Before Efua left, she discovered the letter was made public through Jimi, though unintentional. Jimi made it clear to her that he had little or no regrets for the leaked letter. This is because he was angry and felt she had made a complete fool of him.

Chapter 15.
It was Jolly who photocopied and leaked Efua's letter when he stumbled upon it, while illegally searching for assignment to copy, in Jimi's locker. He was flogged publicly by the principal.
Efua's mother meets with the principal and once again influenced his decision to not suspend Efua. At home, Efua's mother severely scolded her, calling her a slut.

Efua was all alone, starving, having nightmares, and eventually fell ill. She ended up in the hospital after she passed out on the street while being attended to by a mad woman who called her "my daughter".

Chapter 16.
Nene felt guilty of all that happened to Efua. Encouraged by her mother, she went to see Efua in the hospital where she apologized and confessed that it was out of jealousy that she told Jimi about the letter.
Efua also opened up to Nene. She told Nene her father died when she was 12 and her mother married her now step-father who sexually abused her. She sadly added that nobody believed her story, not even her mother. Nene promised to help her reintegrated in school.

Efua had also received get-well messages from her friends at her former school, St Catherine's, and her former principal, Mrs Obange.

Chapter 17.
Jimi was swallowed in his thoughts. Nene was no longer talking to him. His most loyal friend, Ansa, had also disagreed with him on the way he treated Efua.

Wole told Jimi he had got into trouble selling drugs and his life was on the line. He had to run out of town with assistance from Jimi.

Chapter 18.
More troubles for Jimi as the Chemistry Lab he had a spare key to got burgled. It was later revealed that Wole Solade and some other boys were caught while trying to sell a stolen microscope and other Lab equipments. Wole had named Jimi an accomplice in the crime. Before long, the news spread round the school that Jimi, the school hero, was being questioned at the Police station over the Lab theft.
Earlier in the day, Jimi had apologized to Nene for his role in the leaked letter and also tried to make up with Efua.

Chapter 19.
Following Wole's suggestion, Jimi lied that he assisted his brother with the robbery with hopes that his confession will persuade the principal to desist from pressing further charges thereby saving his brother from going to prison.
Jimi was punished in school. He wasn't allowed to participate in any social activity, even after their WAEC exams.
The day he was made to publicly apologize to the whole school, Efua and Ansa stood up for him and made the principal and other students to know the truth. The principal eventually dropped all charges against Wole because he was sorry for him.
Jimi felt guilty Efua stood up for him in his time of trouble but he didn't in hers, now she had left the country unannounced.

Chapter 20.
Most of the Final year students performed well when their results came out in October.
Nene was hoping to study accountancy, Ansa had planned to study architecture while Jimi had won a scholarship to study electrical engineering.
During a Valedictory service that held in July, Jimi won prizes in chemistry, physics and technical drawing. He also got a letter from Efua shortly after she left the country. In the letter, Efua confessed that she liked Jimi back but hinted that she had to sort out things inside herself first. She concluded by telling Jimi that what he did for his brother, Wole, was a sweet thing. This made Jimi very happy. It was a happy ending for all the friends.

I suspect some persons in Nigeria will soon copy the idea
Education / Virginity Scholarship Introduced In South Africa by cynthy2000: 2:21pm On Feb 04, 2016
Maiden's Bursary Award, a bizarre scholarship program targeted at female virgin students has been introduced in South Africa where beneficiaries are expected to undergo virginity testing every vacation.

The scholarship, which has attracted condemnation from women and other rights groups, was introduced this year in the Uthukela district of South Africa and has provided 16 women with college funding for retaining their virginity.

The young women who applied for the scholarships voluntarily stayed virgins and agreed to have regular virginity tests to keep their funding, said Uthukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko.

The mayor stated that the scheme was intended to "reduce HIV, Aids and unwanted pregnancy" among young girls in the Uthukela district of eastern KwaZulu-Natal province.

"To us, it's just to say thank you for keeping yourself and you can still keep yourself for the next three years until you get your degree or certificate," Mazibuko said.

Certain rights groups have described the scholarship arrangement as invasive and sexist. Javu Baloyi of the Commission on Gender and Equality said "The scholarship promotes stereotypes - that you only get a bursary because you are a virgin, not based on your capabilities".

People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) said they were shocked because the move was unconstitutional. The use of taxpayers money to violate the rights of girls, added insult to injury, they claimed. By giving scholarships to girls who are virgins, South Africa is trying to control women's bodies while ignoring the role of men and sexual violence in spreading HIV/AIDS, another rights campaigner said.

However, the Mayor behind the scholarships is standing her ground.

"What I have noticed about all the critics is that they are not bringing solutions," says uThukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko, who says she got pregnant in high school as a teenager and doesn't want girls to go through the same struggle.

Mazibuko says they have tried different ways to stop teenage pregnancies in the schools of her district, but nothing has worked.

Asked whether she would be comfortable submitting her own daughters to the practice, Ms Mazibuko said that she would be, and that her own granddaughter was hoping to take part in this year's ceremony.

However, Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Professor Emmanuel Iornumbe Kucha has promised that Facilities for 25th NUGA games will be ready in record time. He stated that the institution will host the best NUGA Games in 2016.

The Institution who recently adopted the computer based test (cbt) method for her post utme screening exams, plans to extend the same exam method to her internal semester exams.

As a pilot scheme, the computer based exam is being rolled out this semester with General Studies (GS) courses only. Information available on the school's website shows that the new development will affect first year, second year and carry-over students only.

See the full notice published by the school below;

The 4th edition of West Africa University Football and Hockey Championships hosted by the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has come and gone. A CampusPortalNG.com staff was there live and brought us this report.

The games which was earlier scheduled to commence on 15th October eventually started fully on the 17th day of October, 2015 after a few hiccups and attracted 26 universities across West Africa. In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the host University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, welcomed athletes and guests to the University, stating that the idea to host the games is based on the University's philosophy of restoring the dignity of man.

The games started with a football match between the host university (UNN) and the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). The UNN team won the opening game by a lone goal against their opponents, OAU. The ESUT team beat the host (UNN) 4-3 on penalties in a controversial Semi-final match, then went ahead to beat University of Calabar (UNICAL) in the final match.

Below is the full list of winners at the tournament;

so NUC is not a reliable source to rank her own Universities?
NUC stopped ranking universities many years ago, 2004 precisely. So any ranking published lately and claimed to be done by NUC is simply fake
