Since 2004, the Ranking Web (or Webometrics Ranking) is published twice a year (data is collected during the first weeks of January and July for being public at the end of both months), covering more than 20,000 Higher Education Institutions worldwide. We intend to motivate both institutions and scholars to have a web presence that reflect accurately their activities. If the web performance of an institution is below the expected position according to their academic excellence, university authorities should reconsider their web, open access and transparency policy, promoting substantial increases of the volume and quality of their electronic publications. You now know your university's rank. What do you think about the ranking? Source: http://campusportalng.com/top-universities-in-nigeria-university-ranking/ |

What is happening in the University of Nigeria lately is becoming very worrisome. cc: Fynestboi lalasticlala |
Students of the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) have protested the next-to-none existence of electricity in the campus. Campus Portal Nigeria investigation revealed that the school is largely powered by generating sets since the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) hardly supply electricity to the school. It was learnt that lately, the school authorities decided on electricity rationing for the students' hostels to prevent the generating sets from total break down due to excessive usage. The move resulted in the hotels being powered for only 2 hours in the night. Last night, the students who felt the 2-hour power supply a day is too little for them to achieve all their electricity needs in a day, protested the erratic power supply. An eye witness report has it that the protest started from Keneth Dike hall when the students occupants started throwing garbage downstairs in frustration after the customary 7pm - 9pm supply was cut off at 9pm. The protesting students then marched to the popular Manuwa bus stop where students from other hostels joined. The gathering forced the the generator operators to cut off power entirely and ran away for their safety. The protesters moved round the staff quarters, the Dean of Students affairs and DVC's house. And with no response from anyone in authority, the protest became violent leading to the campus main gate being almost brought down by the angry students. As at this morning, the presence of heavily armed policemen can be seen around the University campus to forestall possible further protest by the students. The University of Nigeria (UNN) vice-chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ozumba, has allegedly threatened to shut down the institution if the protest continues. Lately, we have received a lot of inquiries from UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates trying to verify the authenticity of their admission as appeared on their institution of choice’ website but not on JAMB website. The candidates have asked questions like “My name is on the admission list published on my school of choice’ website, but my admission status on JAMB website says No Admission Offered Yet, does it mean my admission is fake?” We want to categorically state that your admission is authentic if it appeared on your school’s official website, even when it is yet to appear on Jamb website. Anybody who says otherwise is simply misleading you for selfish interests! Some persons online also claim that if candidates does not have the JAMB admission letter purchased through them, such candidates were not actually admitted, even when their names appeared on their school’s admission list. That’s a fallacy! There are a lot of reasons why some candidates’ name may be on school’s admission list but not on Jamb website and thus cannot print the Jamb admission letter. Such candidates admission are very much valid! Let’s clear some misconceptions with the following points; 1) Ideally, the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) had sole responsibility to determine who was admitted into any higher institution in Nigeria, but now, the schools actually has the final say on who gets admitted, and thus is the only place you can really get help whenever you have trouble with your admission. 2) JAMB does not have any other way to determine who is qualified for admission but through the schools who organized Post Utme screening tests. The admission lists on JAMB website were first approved by the schools. If you get the “no admission offered yet” response on JAMB website when your name has actually appeared on your school’s admission list, it’s simply because JAMB is yet to update their database with your details or due to some errors while processing your information which will definitely be sorted out through your school. In the case of double admission (I.e. Candidates admitted into two different institutions), Such candidates need to reject the less preferred admission and accept the more preferred one by following the instructions supplied by the schools for such cases. 3) Many schools actually do not compulsorily ask for the admission letter printed from JAMB website before admitted candidates can be accepted to the school. Some schools even issue the admission letter themselves. Therefore, whenever your name appears on your school of choice’ admission list, we advice you get to the school first, then follow the instructions outlined there (and no where else) to accept your admission and proceed with your registration. 4) The JAMB admission letter is of course an important document but you shouldn’t be in a rush to get one to avoid falling into the hands of scammers. Only print the admission letter when you are requested to so by your school. Some schools request their students to pay certain amount of money to process the admission letter and validate their admission even years after the admitted candidates have already matriculated. In the case of students admitted through pre-degree and other related programs whose names never appeared on JAMB website, they will need to regularize their admission with JAMB by following the instructions provided at their school’s admission unit. 5) You can always get the JAMB admission letter anytime, even years after you were admitted and you can do it yourself. You do not need anyone to charge you outrageous fees to get it for you. You should also beware of scammers who now send fake JAMB admission letters. A word is enough for the wise! How To Print JAMB Admission Letter: You can get the original JAMB issued admission letter by following the simple steps outlined below; Step 1] Check your admission status on JAMB website to confirm that your admission letter is ready. Click the following link to learn how to do so, http://campusportalng.com/jamb-admission-status/. If you get a congratulatory message and the details on the admission notification page are correct, proceed to Step 2. If not, proceed to your school’s admission unit to lay a complaint. Step 2] Purchase the JAMB Admission letter printing scratch card from the JAMB office nearest to you or a cyber cafe. The cards are officially sold at the rate of N1,000 at the JAMB offices. A little extra charge may apply, depending on where you are buying the card from. Step 3] Visit the JAMB UTME post registration e-facilities website, www.jamb.org.ng. Step 4] Click on the Admission Letter Printing link under your specific year of admission. Step 5] Enter the Scratch Card PIN, Serial No. and your JAMB Reg. Number in the space provided, then click the Submit button. Step 6] Proceed to print the admission letter. Important: Print in “colour” and keep the document together with the scratch card in a safe place. Best Wishes!! Source: @CampusPortalNG |

Federal Government on Tuesday defended the controversial cut-off point released for admissions into the 104 Unity Colleges in the country. The government said it was persuaded by the need to make quality education accessible to all Nigerians irrespective of ethnic and geographical locations. Whereas a pupil from Anambra State, irrespective of gender, is expected to score at least 139 to gain admission into the schools, a male pupil from Yobe and a female from Zamfara is required to score only two. It also showed discrimination between male and female students in some states. While a male student from Yobe requires only two out of 300 possible scores to gain admission, a female requires 27 to gain admission into the same school. For Taraba, it is three for male and 11 for female. It is nine against 20 in favour of male in Kebbi State. In an interview with our correspondent, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, who is the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of State at the education ministry, Nyesom Wike, said there was no ill motive behind the cut-off points as “the reason the schools were established in the first place was for unity”. Our correspondent however learnt that the principles of Merit, Catchment Area, and Educationally Less Developed States was insisted on by the Federal Government to accommodate the educationally backward states in the North, especially those suffering from security challenges. A source who spoke to our correspondent in confidence said, “Many schools don’t even have candidates at all. While there is over subscription for Kings College, Queens College, Federal Government College, Enugu and Port-Harcourt, there is no subscription for schools in Yobe, Sokoto Adamawa, Borno and others that do not even have security issues.” http://campusportalng.com/education/o-level/federal-government-backs-disparity-in-unity-schools-cut-off-marks/3553/ |

https://campusportalng.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/HOW-FUNAAB-CHECK-MALPRACTICES.png 1.Eagle-eyed security personnel of the Sheriff Deputies screening students on one of the Holding Points. 2. A no nonsense Invigilator, Chairman, ASUU-FUNAAB, Dr. Biodun Badmus (Left) on duty in one of the Centres. It will be easier for a Camel with hunch-back to pass through the very tiny eye of a needle than for any student of the University to cheat in the ongoing 2012/2013 First Semester Examination. This was the conclusion of FUNAAB Bulletin Crew after monitoring the conduct of examination at all Centres on Friday. For one, our Crew observed the presence of eagle eyed security outfit, the Sheriff Deputies and the ‘Internal Rapid Response-Environmental Management Unit, which screened students and took position vigilantly within and outside the examination halls. Besides, the no-nonsense invigilators, notably the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, FUNAAB Branch, Dr. Biodun Badmus and Dr. Eniola Fabusoro spared no effort in ensuring that no student play a fast one on them. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Toyin Arowolo, Chairman, Time-Table Examination Committee (TIMTEC), Dr. Ikechukwu James, the Director, Exams and Records and Special Duties, Mrs. Christiana Kuforiji, Ag. Head, Information and Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), Dr. Olutayo Ajayi were on guard against malpractices at Centres visited by our crew. As a matter of fact, movement of students to and from the examination halls, as well as the seating arrangement totally discouraged malpractices. Check it out. STAGE 1 (STEP-DOWN VENUE) This is the first port of call for students writing the examination. In FUNAAB parlance, it is known as STEP DOWN. This is where the candidates are hosted or lodged in a spacious hall or under a sprawling canopy, preparatory to their movement to the next port of call. For those who are conversant with Airport operations, FUNAAB Examination Step Down is like Departure Lounge. STAGE 2 (HOLDING POINT) This is the transit point or movement from STEP DOWN to the examination hall. It is known as the Holding Point. Here students proceed reverently to the waiting hands of invigilators and security men who scrutinized their examination requirements like a typical Airport scenario, this is where eligible students are giving “body pass” and check into the examination hall. STAGE 3 (EXAMINATION HALL) This is the “nerve centre” so to say. It is the venue for the examination proper. Here you find eagle-eyed invigilators who are fully at alert. The sitting arrangement is such that two students occupy a long bench or chairs in a role. One is seating at the extreme end while the other is at the tail end of the same modern bench. The gap in between them is so wide that even the man with the longest neck in the world wont be able to “Giraffe” (peep) into the work of the other. http://campusportalng.com/funaab/how-federal-university-of-agriculture-abeokuta-funaab-check-exam-malpractices/1370/ |

THE Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia, has decried increase in corps members who most of the institutions, illegally included graduates who ordinarily are either over-aged, underwent part-time programmes, or products of internally introduced unaccredited courses/programmes. The NYSC boss who made this known in Ilorin, Kwara state at the 2013 batch A pre-mobilization workshop also frowned at corps members who can hardly communicate in English Language let alone being able to teach in the classrooms. Okore-Affia disclosed that the level of academic deficiency amongst corps members has heightened corps rejection and redundancy. “Unfortunately too, we have corps members who can hardly communicate in English language let alone being able to teach in the classrooms,” Okoe- Affia said. According to him “this worrisome development has resulted in a situation whereby members of the public wrongly condemn the NYSC for the poor academic standards displaced by these corps members.” He said that the inability of corps producing institutions to produce eligible corps members has created a herculean task for NYSC management. He added, “going through the figures presented for mobilisation by Corps Producing Institution (CPIs) in the same year 2012,it was discovered that many exceeded the admission quota approved by their respective regulatory bodies by as much as 500% in extreme cases. “Upon further scrutiny, it was discovered that most of the institutions, illegally included graduates who ordinarily are either over-aged, underwent part-time programmes, or products of internally introduced unaccredited courses/programmes. “The direct consequence of this on the NYSC scheme is massive corps population explosion, sometimes exceeding even the safe bound of acceptable standard of geometric progression. “This has made planning in the NYSC rather difficult and is fast drawing the ire of both government and the general public. The NYSC DG added that most of the Principals of schools and other employers are now rejecting corps members posted to their schools and offices stressing that, it was difficult to even re-orientate such corps members. http://campusportal.com.ng/education/nysc-education/nysc-director-berates-youth-corpers-who-cannot-speak-simple-english/1116/ |
