Now 2016 and one
common thing people do is to make
resolutions they intend to keep in the new
year. At the end of the year, most Nigerians
evaluate what they have done during the year
and what they should change in the upcoming
year. Giving that this is the last week of the
year and people would be coming up with their
different resolutions, INFORMATION
NIGERIA has has put together 10 of the most
commont new year resolution Nigerians
make….
Quit smoking: Most smokers know that the
habit is harmful to their health, even the
commercials say so, therefore it is always a
top new year resolution to quit smoking, but
nfortunately, only a few of those who make the
resolution to quit will keep it past a few
months into the year before the jump back
into, damning all consequences.
Lose weight: This is one of the most common
resolutions people make but sadly one of the
hardest to realize as most of them loose their
determination usually a few weeks into the new
year and go back to their old ways of eating
whatever they want, whenever they want and
how they want it.
Take a vacation: Nigerians work way too hard
and witht he tight economic situation, who can
blame them so making a resolution to take a
vacation in the coming year isn’t rare.
However, this resolution isn’t often realized
because of tight family budgets and other bills
that keep coming up.
Quit job for a new one or pursue passion: A
lot of Nigerians are unhappy about their jobs,
most of them are just doing it to either get by
or save some money to pursue their passion.
So it is not unusual to hear people make it
part of their resolution to quit their job but
the fear of getting a new one makes it harder
for this resolution to come true.
Save more spend less: People always want to
spend less and save more in order to be able to
achieve some of their dreams like buying a new
car, overhauling their wardrobe and so on. |so
this is a common resolution Nigerians make.
Quit drinking: Some people actually make this
part of their resolution. You hear them say,
they never ever want to drink again or cut
down on the amount they usually drink but
just like smoking, getting rid of the addiction
is a serious matter.
Take the bull by the horn : A lot of people
are very good at finding excuses to avoid doing
important things. Procrastination has become
some people’s middle name. Stopping this bad
habit has become one of the most popular
New Year resolutions people make .
Getting out of a relationship: Most people
are unhappy in their relationship, therefore it
isn’t uncommon to hear people say they want
to move on from a toxic relationship and find
love.
Spend less time on social media: Some
people are social media addicts. They could
spend their whole day jumping from Facebook
to Twitter, from Instagram to Snap chat, then
Whatsapp and neglect other important things
billed for the day. For this reason, people
make it a resolution in the new year to spend
less time on social media.
Change your wardrobe: Most women in
Nigeria love clothes and taking out the old
clothes and getting new ones is one resolution
most people make but the problem is, some
people have emotion attachment to their old
clothes and make it difficult to give them
away.

Maybe she as a spiritual husband and it a goat |
A general
hospital located
in Jahun, Jigawa
state became a
theatre of
absurd and
bizarre when a
woman who
had labored for
9 months gave
birth to what
looks like a
combination of
human head
and goat legs.
The woman whose identity is yet to be revealed had
delivered peacefully only to have had a child with
human head with no neck, and goat legs handed to
her by the doctor.
The question on the lips of many people as the time
of this report was what would have led to such an
incredible child’s birth.
Our correspondent on getting information about
the incident rushed to the general hospital to speak
with the doctors, but none of them was ready to
speak to them. Their refusal will definitely be
connected to medical ethics of confidentiality.

separate attacks in Borno and Plateau States.
While eight persons were killed and several houses
burnt down in separate attacks on Mangari and
Warawara villages in Biu Local Government Area of
Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists 14 were killed
by suspected Fulani attackers at Kwata in Jos South
Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Mangari and Warawara villages are about five
kilometres and seven kilometres away respectively
from Buratai, the home town of the Chief of Army
Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
One of the residents of Mangari who fled to Miringa
town, Mallam Ibrahim Abubakar, told THISDAY on
phone yesterday that the insurgents besieged his
village at about 3:15p.m. on Sunday on motorcycles
and bicycles.
He said they shot sporadically and set houses ablaze.
Abubakar said: “I saw three person who were killed
and their corpses laid on the streets.”
He added: “When we arrived Miringa I was told that
five other person were missing, I cannot, up till now,

they were equally killed or abducted by the
rampaging insurgents.”

Iranian officials have condemned the Nigerian army's
crackdown on a Shi'ite religious sect that reportedly left
hundreds dead in the country's north.
Iran's parliament on Tuesday called on the Nigerian president
to launch an investigation into the deaths, while the foreign
ministry summoned the top Nigerian diplomat to protest the
killings.
Activists and sect leaders say up to 1,000 Shi'ite Muslims were
killed during weekend raids in the northern city of Zaria, in
Kaduna State. The Nigerian army confirms there were clashes
in Zaria but has not released a death toll.
The violence began Saturday after members of the Islamic
Movement of Nigeria (IMN) blocked a highway and according
to witnesses stoned the convoy of Nigerian army chief General
Tukur Buratai. An army spokesman called the stoning an
"attempt to assassinate" the general.
The Shi'ite group says there was no assassination attempt and
that the army had launched a pre-planned attack on the group.
It says troops launched attacks and killed people
"indiscriminately" at three locations, including the home of the
group's leader, Ibraheem Zakzaky. One of Zakzaky's wives was
reportedly killed along with a son.
Nigeria's Vanguard newspaper quotes an army official saying
that Zakzaky is in their custody.
The Islamic Movement of Nigeria seeks to establish an Islamic
state in northern Nigeria through an Iranian-style revolution.
The group is not connected to Boko Haram, the Islamist radical
sect blamed for more than 10,000 deaths in Nigeria during the
past six years. |
Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu
Petrol to cost N97 per litre
Tumbling crude oil price threatens budget
Omololu Ogunmade, Chineme Okafor in Abuja and
Ejiofor Alike in Lagos with agency report
Pleading acute shortage of funds, the federal
government monday said it would begin a gradual
withdrawal of fuel subsidy next year.
The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, who disclosed the government’s decision
while appearing before the Joint National Assembly
Committee on Finance, Appropriation and National
Planning on the consideration of Medium Term
Expenditure Framework (MTEF), said the subsidy put
at over N1 trillion in 2015 was no longer sustainable.
The federal government’s decision to shave off fuel
subsidy coincided with reports that tumbling crude
oil prices might adversely affect the nation’s 2016
budget.
According to Reuters, crude oil price tumbled four
per cent yesterday to $36-40 per barrel, coming close
to its 11-year low, and potentially endangering the
implementation of the 2016 budget, which is
predicated on oil price of $38 per barrel and output
of 2.2 million barrels of crude per day.
The sharp drop on crude oil prices, it said, followed
growing fears that the global oil glut would worsen in
the months to come in a pricing war between the
Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries
(OPEC) and non-OPEC producers.
Kachikwu, however, at a press conference in Abuja,
said OPEC might convene an emergency meeting
earlier than its June 2016 scheduled meeting to
assess the measures it had put in place to check
further slide in crude oil prices.
At the Senate, the minister of state said the gradual
removal strategy would begin with the nation's return
to the pump price of N97 per litre from the current
N87 because the government has no money to
sustain the current price.
He added that if the strategy was not effective, the
government would be compelled to consider total
withdrawal of fuel subsidy.
"The total subsidy figure for 2015 when taken along
with the NNPC will be in excess of N1 trillion. We can
get this specifics but the point is largely that it does
not involve NNPC because the agency takes its off-
cuff. We will work towards taking those figures off
our budget in 2016,” he said.
He said with the federal government’s current pricing
work, it was clear that subsidy was no longer
sustainable. “The government doesn't need to fund
subsidy. There is energy around the removal of
subsidy. Most Nigerians we talk to today would say,
that's where to go,”he stated.
The minster said: "I have since left the dictionary of
subsidy by going to price modulation, which is a bit
more technical. Price of refined products today is
N87. It was N97 before it was removed and we really
have to go back to that because we don't really have
the finance to remove it. There are lots of safety
barometer between the N87 and N97 per litre regime
between which government does not have to fund
subsidy.
