Sowell is only attempting to clear the erroneous conception that the Oro region is an extension of Ibibio land, though he is not going about it properly. The Oro people have a very different and unique/distinctive origin, they migrated from upper camerouns at a time long before the ibibio's migrated to modern day Akwa Ibom, the Oro people share more in common with the Efiks than the Ibibios. Peaceful coexistence and intermarriage has over the years forged a strong and common bond among this indigent ethnic groups in Akwa Ibom/Cross River to a point whereby the dialects intermingle. If u research the family tree of the Ibibios and the Oros, you will understand that they are brothers by association not by kinship. As regards Oil, given the fact that Oro is on the bank of the Atlantic Ocean and having a very huge chunks of territorial rights, offshore oil in that territorial waters fall in d domain of the Oro people, thus making them the biggest Oil producing region in the Delta. Fratermathy, thanks for your write up, we indigent Ibibios/Oros will contribute to it positively.

the soul and the spirit are different. both are emanations of the creative energy of God. the soul is the positive which is also known as the breadth of life(this enters the body at birth when the child is born and leaves at transition. the spirit is the negative essence which is responsible for the formation of the human body or matter. this is known in science as the force of adhesion,cohesion,attraction, its vibratory rate determines the state of manifestation (solid, liquid, gas. All of creation has a spirit and all living things have a soul (your awareness of self as human comes from the presence of the third point called the soul personality, some call it the mind, others call it the conciousness, call it whatever you like, this is the particular essense that differentiate you from animals and trees.) this particular essense is what faces judgement, the soul leaves the body and goes back to the creator thereby death, the spirit leaves the body causing disintegration of the matter called body, the soul personality faces judgement or reincarnation.
the confusion about the soul and spirit came as a result of man's inability to comprehend beyond the realm of materiality. to him only two forms exist. (the material and the immaterial)the body and the spirit/soul..
