kofoWGT: I believe that for you to want to apply for Masters, that means you have a B.Sc. Associate degree is equivalent to OND in Nigeria. So if you have a B.Sc, why do you want to apply for OND again? or may be your question is incomplete. |

Joynwa: Hello Joynwa, It's good to have you on board. I am willing to guide you step-by-step all the way but not to spoon feed you. As a starting point, I will advice you to first read through the thread from the beginning to the end. This is because I do not have time answering questions I have already answered in the thread. After you might have done this, I am willing to answer any additional questions you may have. I hope this helps, Regards 1 Like |

Amakyzuu: The best way to get it done is to send it to WES and let them get the evaluation done for you. Their website is www.wes.org I hope this helps, Regards |
Educational Services / Re: Studying In US And Canada Faq's by dafemlions: 3:03am On Jan 11, 2018 |
LazyFolk: Go to www.wes.org to read more. You need to fill out the application and make payment before sending your transcripts. I always recommend course-by-course evaluation. Once they obtain your transcripts, they will send a copy back to your University to confirm whether they actually issued the transcripts. Once they get a response from your University confirming that they issued the transcripts, they will go ahead to evaluate them and send you a copy when they conclude the evaluation. Once that is done, you can always request for your transcripts from WES at anytime. Please note that if you need to evaluate your undergraduate and Masters transcripts, you do not need to make separate payments. That is, either you evaluate your B.Sc transcript alone or evaluates both B.Sc and Masters transcripts, or evaluates B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D transcripts, you will pay the same amount of money. |

ShylockConsults: Hello Guys, As I have always told you, do not let these theives take your money. You can do all the processes yourself. I know we Nigerians don't believe something is authentic until we put down money. However, I will suggest that you give it a trial. Some people have gone to the US just following the directions in this post. Just follow the directions and if you have questions, send an email to gre.nigeria@yahoo.com and I will answer all your questions provided they have not been answered previously in this thread. I hope this helps |

Adeolaraji: BSc and HND are equivalent in the US. I have a friend who used his HND and got accepted directly into a Masters program. I will just suggest that you do the WES evaluation of your OND and HND together. That will be equivalent to BSc here in the US and Canada. I hope this helps. |

ewa20buredi100: Sure. a post graduate diploma in Engineering from a Nigerian University will do. I do have a friend that just used that to obtain admission although my friend is not in engineering. I hope this helps |
Educational Services / Re: Studying In US And Canada Faq's by dafemlions: 3:38am On Oct 12, 2017 |
ewa20buredi100: To the best of my knowledge, US and Canada do not offer post graduate diploma. As regards switching to an engineering field, It is not impossible but you will have to come in for chemistry Masters and then proceed to a Ph.D after your Masters. During your Ph.D, since you can take an average of 3 classes per semester, you can then take 2 classes in Chemistry and a class from engineering. by the time you are graduating from Ph.D, you'll have completed the requirements for Masters degree in engineering. This route seems too long but that is the best way that you can change into engineering without paying out of your pocket because once you get scholarship from Chemistry department, they will be paying for all your classes. An alternative is for you to go for undergraduate degree in engineering. However, getting funding for undergraduate studies for international students is very difficult. I hope this helps |

FirstTImeUser: If the school requires your Original transcripts, then send it to them. On every transcript is an explanation or the interpretation of the grades. So once they go through your transcripts, they should be able to place you on their scale. I will suggest that you try to calculate your CGPA based on the regular Nigerian CGPA scale. Once you pass the 2:1 mark, you will definitely pass the 3.00 GPA. I hope this helps |

akinsondan: You can always start all over. However, you need to be able to justify that long gap because the admission committee will always want to know why? For example, some people drop out of school to take care of family, some may have other issues like crime that took them to jail and after coming out of jail they want to continue their education, some may have family issues that makes it difficult to afford the cost. Different cases requires different consideration. For example, no school will admit someone who is a s*x offender because such a person will pose a threat to the security of other students. As a result, you need to be able to give a good reason why you've been out of school for that long. I hope this helps |

vivianharmony: Hello Vivian, Your relatives or people outside your department would not be credible enough to give you reference because it will not carry enough weight to justify your fitness for admission and funding. Your boss in office could be a good one if you are working in a discipline related to your undergraduate course and he can say a lot about your academic potential such as research capability (if your job is research-based). Apart from this, your best and most credible references that will increase your chances are your lecturers. I will encourage you to try your lecturers one more time. However, it is important that they give you excellent references because references counts a lot in the admission process in North America. Using generic languages in your reference letters may be why you have not been admitted and funded. The references needs to be specific and mentioning some of your achievements (while in school) in the references could be a plus for you. mentioning you relative position (such as she graduated top 1% of her class) in class could also be a plus. I hope this helps, Regards |

sassy92: I will suggest that you go through the websites of potential schools that you are likely to apply to. Look at the profiles of their professors and send the professors whose area of research match your research interests emails. I will suggest that you use a gmail to send out these emails because based on experience, emails sent through yahoo end up in the spam of most professors and they may not check their spam mail. As regards writing the GRE, I will suggest that you send an email to gre.nigeria@yahoo.com to request for GRE materials. There are better materials than the princeton materials that will be shared with you via the dropbox. Please note that not all programs require that you have a potential supervisor. So I will suggest that you do extensive search and also send emails to potential supervisors. I hope this helps, Regards |

EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) There are many determined and talented, low-income students in Nigeria who only require financial resources and access to information to better their educational future. For the 11th year, the United States Embassy, Nigeria seeks to identify academically qualified and highly motivated, low-income students in Nigeria to join the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP). OFP’s mission is to assist talented and determined, low-income students who are good candidates for financial assistance from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front cost of obtaining admission. Sakaslim: Please note that scholarships are not on first come first serve basis. it is based on holistic review of your application materials (Academic results, GRE score, Statement of purpose) and this is then used to rank students that apply to the program (department) and admission and scholarships (Tuition waiver, monthly stipend, and health insurance) are given based on merit. You can start applying for Fall 2018 once the fall semester for 2017 has started which is about September 1st, 2017 on the average. I hope this helps, Regards |

gensteejay: As I have always said, doing TOEFL is like a waste of money and time. Nigeria is an anglophone country. As a result, all you need to do is to request from the school you are applying to to waive TOEFL for you on this basis. Most schools in US and Canada will do that. If any school refuses tot do that, then find other schools. To the best of my knowledge, schools that do not waive TOEFL for students from Anglophone countries are usually not the very good ones. if you are bent on writing TOEFL, kindly send an email to gre.nigeria@yahoo.com to make the request.
