EFCC Siezes This Beautiful Properties In Bayelsa (pics)

EFCC seals home of Apere Embelakpo, SSA on MDGs to Governor Henry Seriake Dickson and also seals the below gigantic twin shopping complexes and offices situated at opposite Kpansia market, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, owned by the same man who is wanted by the EFCC for embezzling over 1bn MDGs fund

If you can recall, some weeks ago a top ex-aid of Seriake Dickson, Evarada was arrested by the EFCC , trying to bribe the agency with 10m cash in Portharcourt to bury the corruption case against the SSA

"KEEP OFF, PROPERTY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY EFCC" is boldly written in red colour.

See how they spoiled the fence, what if the guy is found innocent who'd pay for the repairs of the fence

Business / Re: Will Nigerian Banks Ever Start Issuing Credit Cards? by daftpikin: 10:33am On May 13, 2016
SmartMugu:

I think there might be some problems with that approach. What would happen in the case of a billionaires that want their children to own everything they had after they're gone? What if they expect to leave infants behind? I know a 2-year old don't need a bank account, hence has no need for BVN.
So, if banks rely on only those with BVN, several others would be segregated, no matter how much they're actually worth from inheritances, investments etc.

Sane countries assign a different kind of identifiers to their citizens that don't depend on them having a bank account.
In the US for example, the SSN is enforced from birth for those born there. Attending schools, getting medical help etc rely on the fact that people's past, present and their future can be tracked from their SSN, not because they managed to open a bank account and suddenly got assigned a BVN.

As celebrated as the US is, a huge fraction of its population still doesn't have a bank account. Many even believe the banking system is fraud in its own.

Well said, but I feel a minor has no need for a credit card. So even if he has billions in investments or inheritance he still would not get a credit card.

On the issue of Social Security, we have not gotten there yet and I do not think we will even in the next 5 years but that should not stop the banks from starting with the BVN. If you don't have a bank account then you don't get a credit card, cause knowing Nigerians they would try various means of defrauding the financial organizations if there's nothing to check them.
Business / Re: Will Nigerian Banks Ever Start Issuing Credit Cards? by daftpikin: 8:02am On May 13, 2016
InvertedHammer:
Think about the mindset of a Nigerian.
Mr. A works for XYZ. He has a credit limit of N500,000. And in this era of uncertainty, Mr. A is fired on Friday. He walks into his bank and maxed out on his cash back. Worst case scenario, he will have a bad credit. No jail time, no asset s foreclosure because credit cards debts are unsecured loans.
Repeat this similar scenario a thousand times. Will collection agencies work in Nigeria? Will the banks hire Samoans with baseball bats to collect on deliquent accounts?
The best a bank can do is give credit backed by the amount in the individual's account. Then it defeats the whole concept of credit facility.
SmartMugu:
With the current state Nigeria is in, credit opportunities will not work in that system - except may be for a select few, but yet it won't be same as in sane countries.

The reason is simple. The US for example has a unique identifier for everybody living there legally - Social Security Number (SSN). Nigeria doesnt. With the SSN, everything else can be linked - your properties, debts, equities, family members, criminal history, insurance records, census reasons etc.

Every business in the US (an example) can decide if you are credit-worthy once they look through your past records from your SSN. Banks, financial firms, employers, etc and rely on that to make informed decisions.

If it took forever for Nigeria to think about BVN, how much longer would it take to implement something close to SSN that the US uses? Unless BVN will be used to represent SSN. But what about people that don't have bank accounts and don't need BVN?

The right approach would be to have a unique number assigned to every citizen in Nigeria, even babies. From that, everything else can be done. I thought that was the whole reason for the National ID card, until...

So, I won't blame banks if they don't think Nigeria is ripe for that yet. Like everyone, they don't want to lose money from people fleeing with funds they borrowed. The right system has to be put in place to establish a confidence level for them.

The BVN for me is very ineffective right now, but would be very useful if the Crédit card is adopted by all banks. On the issue of running away, since all our accounts are linked to the BVN all our credit cards would also be linked to our BVN and any bank should be able to use it in accessing credit card debts to ascertain whether to or whether not to issue another credit card to a customer.

When you complain in this country , Nigeria.. Whats the end benefit of it..
Everybody has been complaining since 1960, nigeria got her independence till 2016, as of nw...
Tell me, has the system changed for better?
Are schools adequately equiped with books ,practical materials and necessary amenities to ease the life of a student?
Has it improved to the enviable state we want it to be? Coupled With all the complains, screams, fights and strike actions?

If your answer is Yes? And you can prove to me complaining and carrying of placards has changed the system to a better one? Then my dear friend, i will gladly shut down my company and mobilize my staffs to join Unilag students and other students in the campaigne of change and better living.

But if No?
Then keep wasting time complaining, till eternity... Its your choice...

that is because the protesters always bow out at the slightest form of threatening from authorities and if we do the same thing our demonstration would be added to the list of failed protests.

My brother history is a great teacher. History has always shown that in tertiary education in Nigeria, protests especially violent one, usually cause more woes and regret to the students in the end. There is never a limit to the amount of dialogue you can have otherwise you will burn your fingers. How many of us get everything we need from our parents at home? And the few who actually do are seen as over pampered. Do you go about throwing tantrums at your parents whenever they dnt provide you with what you need? My two pence o and nobody have to agree with me.

At least our parents respect us enough to explain things to us. You talk about history, just look at how the school system is right now, worse that it was before because those who had their chances in 'history' were to scared to do anything and didn't care about the future as long as they graduated.

Ok ooo
At least there are some set of serious students who will study, learn and graduate with good degrees and honours in our " uncondusive environment".. As soon as they are done with service, its either companies retain them or within a year or two, they have a good paying job..
While some top companies will keep on employing graduates abroad that fits their bill.

Time, my dear is always our friend... And time is always there to remind us , how well and far weve gone.

So you think those that are protesting are 'unserious' , going to the University is not just to acquire a degree from your course of study you are also expected to learn other things.

we always let leaders push us around, and that's why our country is where it is today. If we don't start speaking up now, when and where would we learn it.

I won't be part of those that would be qualified with the clause 'Suffering and Smiling', if I am suffering I would complain
Education / Re: 5 Reasons Not To Attend Private Institutions by daftpikin: 7:20am On Apr 27, 2016
Topmaike007:
Going to school nowadays are not to get certificate but to defend what you carry. ..in this thread I shall be disscusing some major point not to go to private institutions such as poly or uni.

1) there fee are high that it takes the rich alone to be there or maybe your parents are also having some helpers such younger brothers, sisters, uncle,or any relatives..Compared to federal or state institutions some federal institutions are paying #20,000 as school fee and I trust my self if I keep up with my importation biz I can pay my school fee even without letting my Parent to know.

2)promoting them whether do test or fail a single paper no carry over nothing because they can't pay a very huge amount of money and still fail them is rubbish come and do such in OAU if you're not serious you will go back home

3)not able to defend their result, you cannot expect school that has no competition to know book because when you are busy reading hard in public institutions to maintain your slut in the department you vouch For chai if they bring their overall best from private Institution them no fit defeat you because you spending most of your time reading all ways and not to be rusticated from school private cannot match US... My guys in Angola and awo hostel can testify to it..

4)if you are going to private just know in your heart that your issue of getting employed is base on I sabi person or I go work for papa company because I have seen a situation that a girl has a certificate from one private poly in southwest I will not mention name of the school this girl was dismiss when she can't write a good application letter,i was dissapointed in me because if people are talking about school she will also be talking..and also public certificate are well recognized than private. .it is very hard for private ond student to do direct entry to public institutions even hnd in public institutions is very hard for private to be admitted.

5)they don't do post utme they buy space in the school admission and become there student, by so doing I believe they are dull if you are not dull why not go and compete with your mate In federal poly or uni because the idea of people saying that they was denied admission that was the main reason they went to private but if you know the formula you will not be denied admission and the formula is this you scored 185 in utme and you chose unn or some other mighty schools in Nigeria and still put medicine and surgery as course oga no waste your time and money na come back next year be that but if you change your institution and course plus hardwork in reading it will Surely

Add yours if you agree and quote me wrong if you are a victim of private institution grin

OP your view is laughable.

1. it's nobody's fault if you cannot afford it, do not discourage those who can.

2. that's a very big lie, even though this might be true in some private institutions, it's not the same everywhere.

3. another big lie, first of all the teaching system in your government schools is very bad most of you only cram to do your exams so you're also guilty of being wack graduates

4. I would not say anything as your can easily infer my reply from the first 3 above.

5. who UTmE don EPP, JAMB is a failed system as we all know that it's not all about who is smarter.

Although, I am in a government uni, my siblings are in private schools and one of them started here but because of their bad system he had to leave.

I concur with the forms the students have to fill.. It will keep them on check and make them realise , they are given admission into Unilag to read, learn and graduate as responsible and knowledgeable candidates required on various fields of career out here in the world.
If not ? Na parties every weekends, and clubbing..
Hence graduating and becoming a huge liability to our over populated country.
But with these rules and undertaking bn signed.. There heads go screw tight well.
They had better embrace it.. Its a wonderful way to go and rebrand unilag all over again.. Other tertiary schools , pls take note
.
If not ? Na the same garbage in.. Garbage out.
And companies will certainly not employ graduates that cant even defend anything, how much more assist and make a company grow... Honestly its really appalling .
Nigerian students sit up , study and learn the course u are admitted for.

No time to play or party or carry placards... Just focus and come out with honours that companies worldwide will beg to have u guyz on board..
To be successful is not easy.. Be serious and focused.
sad angry

when the learning environment is not conducive how do we learn. And protesting and playing doesn't stop anyone from graduating with honours

I was lucky to attend Unilag during the four most peaceful period in the history of the school 2006-2010. Coincindentally there was no SUG during this period. Save for 3 months ASUU strike each in 2007 and 2009, there was no disruption in academic activities occassioned by student's restiveness. There was no SUG then and actually students were not bothered because there was no need for it. The school management did its best to make students comfortable and whenever they fell short, students just bear with them. There were periods during exam when therep is no light at night in the hostels and students who want to prepare for exams would take their books under the street lights to read. Whatever problem the school has is not a permanent problem. You have to dialogue with the management and give them time to look into it. They should proscribe SUG if that would bring back lasting peace in the school.

What do you do when you have tried to about 10 times in 6 months to have a dialogue with the management and the refuse to give you audience.

This is just stupidity and wickedness on the part of the school!

This undertaking form is a slave contract, and ULSU dissolved means any form of treatment we get from the school, we can't do anything about it!!!

This is a federal school not some private uni, why is Rahman Bello heartless!

The SUG didn't do anything bad to warrant being suspended, I urge any akokite on here, not to sign that shii, yet! At least not yet, till we are sure nothing can be done.

Meanwhile the reason we protested and stayed home for two weeks hasn't been treated fully! Is it too much to ask the school!

Do no sign, there's no way we'd let the school authorities bully us into committing all our rights to them.

we did nothing wrong in asking for a better academic environment and they have no right whatsoever to suspend the ulsu constitution that was adopted by the students congress without any good reason.
