PoliticsAtiku Denies Running For Presidency In 2019 With Mimiko by DaFuhrer(op): 4:02pm On Aug 01, 2016
Former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports alleging that he has formed a new political platform on which he will run for president in 2019, with the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as his running mate.

A statement, signed by Abubakar’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said the report bore the features of a political hatchet job planted by his opponents who are desperately trying to invent events in order to draw a wedge between him and President Muhammadu Buhari on the one hand and the leadership of the APC on the other hand.

According to Atiku, the “report was an incompetent product of fiction, so shallow and vacuous that even its authors could not validate its credibility with reliable and verifiable sources.

“Some people of bad faith trying tooth and nail to spread the seeds of discord in the party, and destroy the much needed unity, harmony and cohesion, which are the pillars of strength for every political organisation.”
"Despite all the smear campaigns and reputation lynching and sponsored falsehoods, his loyalty to President Buhari and the APC leadership would not be shaken an inch.

"I would ordinarily have ignored the malicious report, but I chose to react, lest my silence would be mistaken as an admission of the falsehoods published against me”.

Christianity EtcMuslims Pray With Catholics Over Priest’s Murder by DaFuhrer(op): 3:19pm On Jul 31, 2016
Muslims attended Catholic mass in churches around France on Sunday in solidarity and sorrow following the brutal jihadist murder of a priest, the latest in a string of attacks.

More than 100 Muslims were among the 2,000 faithful who packed the 11th-century Gothic cathedral of Rouen near the Normandy town where two jihadi teenagers slit the throat of 85-year-old Father Jacques Hamel.

“I thank you in the name of all Christians,” Rouen Archbishop Dominique Lebrun told them. “In this way you are affirming that you reject death and violence in the name of God.”

Nice’s top imam Otaman Aissaoui led a delegation to a Catholic mass in the southern city where a jihadist carried out a rampage in a truck on Bastille Day, claiming 84 lives and injuring 435 including many Muslims.

“Being united is a response to the act of horror and barbarism,” he said.
The Notre Dame church in southwestern Bordeaux also welcomed a Muslim delegation, led by the city’s top imam Tareq Oubrou.

“It’s an occasion to show (Muslims) that we do not confuse Islam with Islamism, Muslim with jihadist,” said Reverend Jean Rouet.
The Muslims were responding to a call by the French Muslim council CFCM to show their “solidarity and compassion” over the priest’s murder on Tuesday.

Said a woman wearing a beige headscarf who sat in a back pew at a church in central Paris: “I’m a practising Muslim and I came to share my sorrow and tell you that we are brothers and sisters.”

Giving her name only as Sadia, she added softly: “What happened is beyond comprehension.”

The most poignant moment of Sunday’s mass in Rouen was the sign of peace, a regular part of the liturgy when the faithful turn to greet each other in the pews, either shaking hands or kissing.

Archbishop Lebrun used the moment to step into the congregation and greet Muslim leaders attending, as well as three nuns who were at the church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray when Hamel was murdered.

Outside the Rouen cathedral a few policemen and soldiers stood guard but did not conduct searches, seeking to reassure a jittery population after the second jihadist attack in less than a fortnight.

In addition to prompting fears of fanning religious tensions in the officially secular country, Father Hamel’s murder sparked renewed recriminations over perceived security lapses.

Both of the 19-year-olds attackers , Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean, had been on intelligence services’ radar and had tried to go to Syria.

PoliticsNNPC Increases Kerosene Price To N135 From N73 Per Litre by DaFuhrer(op): 11:40am On Jul 29, 2016
Product racketeering worsens, sells at N180 per litre
Ejiofor Alike

The official price of kerosene will move up to N135 from N73 per litre on Monday, THISDAY investigation revealed wednesday.

According to reliable sources, the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has decided to increase the ex-depot price to N135 per litre with effect from Monday, after the next consignment of about 17,000MT capacity imported vessel arrives Lagos this week.

THISDAY gathered that following foreign exchange crisis, which makes it difficult for the private marketers to access foreign exchange at the official price, the PPMC assumed the sole importer of kerosene, thus leading to the scarcity of the product.

But THISDAY learnt that the public who are the end users would not be losing much as the product had always sold above the N73 official price because of racketeering by officials of PPMC and the marketers.

In the massive scam, officials of PPMC allocate the product to marketers at ex-depot price of N73 per litre, while the marketers sell to the public at over N180 per litre, THISDAY’s investigation revealed.

In a circular number: PPMC/MKT/IBN/01/2016, signed by one LNS Madubuike, the PPMC had directed marketers to pay N73 per litre for kerosene imported by the company. The marketers, however, sell the product to the public at between N180 and N250 per litre.

Some independent marketers, who could not get allocation from the PPMC, told THISDAY that some officials of PPMC collect bribe of N1 million on every truck of kerosene allocated to the marketers.

Another alleged scam by PPMC officials in kerosene importation, it was learnt, is that up to 50 trucks are not discharged in every imported vessel.

According to a PPMC source, after discharging kerosene to the private marketers, this quantity is left in the vessel by PPMC as Remain on Board (ROB) and nobody knows what happens to this product.
NNPC’s spokesman, Mr. Garuba Deen Muhammadu, however, told THISDAY yesterday that he would find out the true situation from the PPMC before responding to the issues raised.

But it was gathered that PPMC has been the sole importer of kerosene as the private marketers use their limited foreign exchange to focus on the importation of petrol.

An official of PPMC, who was not happy with the fraud in kerosene allocation, said that it was brisk business between some officials of the company and the marketers.

“We thought that things will change with the new administration. It actually changed initially but is now business-as-usual. It does not serve public interest to allocate kerosene at N73 or N135 per litre to some people at public expense and the beneficiaries will sell to the public at N180 and even N250 in some instances. This arrangement serves private pockets and something has to be done fast about it,” he said.

Investigation revealed that from the last consignment imported by the PPMC, the independent marketers were selling at ex-depot price of between N170 and 182 per litre.

Some of the independent marketers whose depots had sold kerosene between N170 and N182 per litre include: Capital Oil, Eterna Oil; Rahamaniyya, Aquitane, AA Rano, and Obat Oil.

It was also gathered from PPMC sources that Honeywell, Aiteo and NIPCO Plc would share the next consignment of PPMC’s kerosene that will arrive this week.
However, it was gathered that PPMC has increased the ex-depot price of this new consignment from N73 per litre to N135 per litre.

It was also learnt that because of the scam perpetrated by the marketers and the PPMC officials in kerosene allocation, the major marketers have shunned kerosene business to protect their business integrity.

“The whole kerosene thing is messy and that is why the major marketers do not want to get involved. The major marketers are not ready to give anybody bribe and sell above stipulated price. The whole thing improved when President Buhar

PoliticsNigerian Army Set To Manufacture Its Own Weapons by DaFuhrer(op): 11:28am On Jul 29, 2016
– Rear Admiral Samuel Alade has said the Nigerian military is set to manufacture its own weapons

– The National Defence College commandant said steps have been taken to manufacture military hardware

– Admiral Alade has said that DICON has been strengthened to produce arms

The Nigerian army has said that all is in place for the commencement of arms production in Nigeria, this was disclosed by the commandant of National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Samuel Alade.
Nigerian army
Alade said that the Nigerian military has begun taking steps towards the manufacture of military hardware.

The commandant made the assertion in Abuja on Thursday, July 28, while addressing State House correspondents after he led the Course 24 of the college on a courtesy visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

According to him, the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna is being strengthened to produce arms while the military industrial complex will produce heavy military equipment.

Alade said: “We have an institution that was established basically to help develop production of hardware.
“That is the Defence Industry Corporation, which is located at Kaduna.

“That institution is being strengthened; I believe that in the new dispensation a lot of things will start happening.
“As we speak, they produce rifles and some other hardware. “But I can assure you that we have started.

“Just recently we had a defence cooperation workshop with South Africa and that workshop was held at the Defence College and that is the beginning.

“We want to develop our military industrial complex and within that framework we will be able to manufacture hardware and even the software as well.’’

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in August 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Ministry of Defence to design a plan for the establishment of a military industrial complex for local production of weapons.

He gave the directive at the graduation of Course 23 of the National Defence College in Abuja. Buhari had said that such weapons, when produced, would meet some of the requirements of the country’s armed forces.
He had described as unacceptable, Nigeria’s over-dependence on other countries for critical military equipment and logistics.

Alade said that the group visited the Vice President to submit some policy proposals to the Federal Government on how to effectively administer the country.

He said the proposal emanated from the recent workshop at the college with the topic “Youth Bulge in Nigeria and its implication for National Security’’ .

Alade said the presentation was a way of contributing to national development and national security. According to him, the students made some useful suggestions on how to move the country forward especially on youth development.

He said the presentation would continue based on the directive of the presidency adding that the college was ready to conduct various researches to engender development. On the battle against insurgency and militancy in the country, Alade expressed gratitude with the military for defeating Boko Haram.

“Obviously, we are winning the war on insurgency; you are aware of what the military is doing in the North East.

“Of course we can conveniently say that there is no more Boko Haram; we have defeated them. “When you talk of issue of insecurity in the Niger Delta, you are aware that discussions are on and the military, if called upon, will usually give their assistance to civil authority,’’ he added.

In the same vein, the Nigerian army has launched one more training exercise code named “Exercise crocodile smile” .
Reports suggest that soldiers will practice in amphibious and internal security operations in riverine environment.

The soldiers are also to check criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities.

According to a statement released by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman “The Nigerian army will from this weekend commence another training exercise code named “Exercise crocodile smile” in 82 division and part of 2 division areas of responsibility traversing the South-South geo-political region.

The aim of the exercise is to practice our special forces and other units of the Nigerian army in amphibious and internal security operations in riverine environment and also check criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities in support of the civil authority.

The general public is please requested not to panic on the sight of unusual movement of large number of troops, heavy military weapons and equipment in these areas.

PoliticsObasanjo Advises Buhari To Spend Money To Dislodge Saraki by DaFuhrer(op): 2:26pm On Jul 27, 2016
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has given President Muhammadu Buhari some strategies to get embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki removed from office, reports Sahara Reporters.

Obasanjo divulged the strategies during his meeting with Buhari on Monday.

During the meeting which lasted about two hours , Obasanjo told the President that it would be very difficult for Buhari to achieve his goal for Nigeria if he continued to tolerate a corrupt leadership at the National Assembly.

Obasanjo reportedly told Buhari to spend money if he is truly willing to ease Saraki out as the Senate President and weed out other corrupt elements at the National Assembly.
He was said to have told Buhari that he must be willing to outspend Saraki in order to remove him.

Obasanjo gave several instances when he had to use such methods during his tenure to dislodge his enemies from the National Assembly.

He also told Buhari that that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who hid huge sums of money in Ghana and elsewhere are reorganizing to take power from him.

Buhari later thanked Obasanjo, describing the former President as a unique person who could do the unthinkable.

He, however, responded that he could not in good conscience spend all the monies available to oust just a few people because he needed to show to Nigerians that he was elected to perform.

He reiterated his wish to use lawful means to prosecute those members of the Assembly involved in corruption.

BusinessLagos Emerges As One Of World’s 41 Smart Cities by DaFuhrer(op): 10:42am On Jun 22, 2016
Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos State, as well as Johannesburg in South Africa has been enlisted as two of 41 smart cities in the Networked Society City Index 2016.

Stockholm is the top-ranking city in the index followed by London, Copenhagen, Singapore and Paris, the Ericsson report showed.

The index measures the performance of 41 cities from around the world from two perspectives: sustainable urban development and ICT maturity.

Although starting at a low level, Johannesburg and Lagos are progressing in all ICT dimensions of the index which includes infrastructure, affordability, and usage.

Stockholm is ranked number one in the sustainable urban development part of the index, closely followed by Copenhagen, Helsinki and Paris. London ranks top in the ICT part of the index, replacing Stockholm, which now ranks second before Singapore on third place.

Lagos is ranked in a category of better performing cities from an environmental standpoint. Cities in this category perform well with regard to CO2 emissions and energy usage per capita but experience high levels of pollution.

Cities that have noticeably moved up the Networked Society City Index 2016 ranking, compared with the 2014 index, include Barcelona, Istanbul and Jakarta. However, Hong Kong, Moscow and Dubai dropped in the ranking.

In general, cities with low ICT maturity tend to mature faster than cities with higher ICT maturity, which indicates the presence of a catch-up effect.

PoliticsBadagry Should Not Become Another Ogoniland by DaFuhrer(op): 9:52am On Jun 22, 2016
“With the flag-off by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo of the cleanup of Ogoni due to decades of damage done to the environment as a result of oil spill, inhabitants of oil producing areas have a glimmer of hope of getting their lands back.

The Niger Delta is arguably the most devastated region on the planet. The people have lost their predominantly fishing and farming livelihood; they have no drinking water and are afflicted by various health challenges.

Earlier in May, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, declared that Lagos had officially joined the League of Oil Producing States in Nigeria following the discovery of crude oil by Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited in Badagry. The discovery reportedly cost the company $400 million and 25 years of hard work. Lagos, with this finding, would be entitled to the 13 percent derivation that is due to oil producing states, based on section 162 Sub-Section 2 of the Nigeria Constitution. This breakthrough is expected to generate more than N30 billion worth of internal revenue every month for the state. The oil well has the capacity to produce at least 12,000 barrels per day, with a possibility to increase to 25,000 to 50,000 barrels per day in the nearest future.

This would supplement Lekki Refinery which is expected to produce about 500,000 metric tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas per annum when it starts production in 2018.

Lagos is home to Nigeria’s most key commercial activities with banking, telecoms, manufacturing, maritime, insurance and other strategic sectors. The country’s biggest air and sea ports are situated in the coastal city, as well as the head offices of the biggest companies. These, complemented by a rapidly growing population and consumer market, have propelled the growth of its economy. Lagos alone has a larger economy than many African countries. It contributes about $80.61 billion (35.6 percent) of Nigeria’s GDP. Lagos is also the highest contributor to the Non-Oil GDP (with $129.4 billion, representing about 62.3 percent).

These figures may, however, be tempered by the pictures of the fragile ecosystem oil exploration had turned the Niger Delta and its people into. Would the serene and tourist destination, Badagry, require another cleanup issue by the United Nations Environmental Programme? It may be argued that Lagos is a developed state and would better manage the environment from abuse, but one should consider that rural and remote areas even in Lagos State are decades behind their urban peers.

They rank low on all human development indices making one wonder whether they are in a highbrow state. They still lack the state of the art hospitals or schools that past and present administrators have commissioned in the city centres. So, what happens to the previously unknown Aje when there is an oil spill and its quiet residents lose their subsistent aquatic occupations?

Next step for the Lagos government is to dialogue with the leaders of this and neighbouring communities on the urgent delivery of basic infrastructure in the form of model primary and secondary schools, primary healthcare facilities, developing the tourist and recreation spots, and provision of clean water. Apart from being proactive and responsible, it makes the inhabitants part of the value chain and not one of exploitation.

This move will reduce agitations, if any, in the future. There could also be an arrangement where some fraction of the shares of the oil well goes to the community.
Despite Lagos’ economic glory, the rate of youth unemployment is on the high side.

Governors after governors are yet to find a permanent solution to the area boys/agbero menace in the state. These semiliterate and unemployable youths are ready tools of violence tomorrow and could be the next militants bombing the very oil well that is bringing smiles today asking for their share of the wealth extracted from their soil.

Well mapped out road and transportation network leading to Lagos West senatorial district, where this crude oil was discovered, should be developed. This is important so that those who manage the state can deliberately encourage industries and businesses to move to that part of town.

Besides the indirect and direct employment in the short and long term that this provides, the iconic architectural presence of multinationals around the ancient settlement will give the Badagry area a modern commercial landscape and not that of its slave trade past.

Discovery of oil in this age of alternatives to fossil fuel should not call for popping champagne. Although, humanity may not completely do without petroleum products, but with advancement of battery powered vehicles, this would greatly reduce the price of crude in the international market. So, as Lagos celebrates this economic feat, earnest plans should be made for a post-crude oil economy. Tourism, for one, would thrive well in Badagry.

Knowing that it is now a major player in the petroleum industry, the government of Lagos State should use its political alignment with the centre to press the federal executive to present again the Petroleum Industry Bill. This bill has suffered many controversial setbacks in previous legislative sessions.

Though watered down from its original version, the bill as it is now is a win-win for all in the oil business and host communities in a deregulated oil industry. So, the government of Lagos can then urge its senators and representatives in the National Assembly to do the necessary on the passage of the bill. This should be done so that the state gets the best from this oil discovery in Aje.
CrimeNon-fasting Muslims Arrested In Northern Nigeria by DaFuhrer(op): 5:30pm On Jun 20, 2016
The religious police in Kano State have been cracking down on Muslims who fail to fast during the holy month of Ramadan. As DW’s Nasir Zango reports, the suspects could be caned in public if found guilty.

The Kano State Police, also known as Hisbah, have arrested scores of people for failure to fast and ensuring compliance with the rules of Ramadan, the third pillar of Islam.

Ramadan is a special month of the year for the over one billion Muslims throughout the world. It is determined by the lunar cycle and will run until July 5 this year. For Muslims it is a time for inner reflection, devotion to God and self-control.

During fasting, strict restrictions are followed. Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink during daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden. At the end of the day, the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the "Iftar."

Since Ramadan began on June 6, Kano police have deployed its men to strategic places in the state to ensure compliance with the rules of Ramadan. Those who are found to be violating the rules have been arrested and held for interrogation.

Deputy Commandant of Kano's Hisbahm, Nabahani Usman, said that those arrested would be prosecuted and be sentenced according to the law. "We hold them at Hisbah for at least two days to teach them the importance of fasting," Usman said. He added that every adult Muslim must observe the holy month.

According to Islamic teachings, fasting helps one feel compassion for those who are less fortunate and underprivileged.

Fasting is obligatory for all healthy Muslims - a test of patience and endurance
"We deem it fit and necessary to ensure that every Muslim in Kano State observe Ramadan. We have a report of people who are not complying with this important pillar of Islam; hence we mobilize our men to arrest them," Usman emphasized.

The "men" referred to are Muslim scholar operatives whose work is to enhance Islamic teachings based on the Quran. They also have powers to arrest and detain notorious "non-compliant" followers.

Arrests condemned
Besides the arrests and detentions, the convicts are subject to beatings after they have been handed a sentence by the religious courts. However, punishments given out by the Hisbah police have been strongly criticized by human rights activists. They accuse the police of overstepping mandate.
Muslims who fail to refrain from eating during daylight can be held for couple of days
Activist and law professor at University of Bayero in Kano, Barrister Audu Bulama Bukarti, said the Nigerian constitution does not allow any religion to punish anybody for not fasting.

"Section 36 of the constitution of Nigeria is very clear that nobody should be arrested or punished except for an offence which is defined by a written law of Nigeria," Bukarti said. "I am not aware of any law that makes fasting compulsory in Nigeria whether on Muslims or on any other person in the country." However he called on Muslims to abide by Sharia Law unless they have "acceptable excuses."

DW's correspondent Nasir Zango in Kano State has seen several people at the headquarters of the Hisbah in the Sharada area who are being held for non-observance of Ramadan. One of them told Zango that he failed to fast due to chronic ulcers.

"I cannot fast while also taking both modern and herbal medicine to cure it," he said.
It is not the first time the Hisbah religious police have cracked down on people for not observing the rules of Ramadan in the region. In 2012, more than 20 people were arrested by Hisbah for deliberately refusing to fast and they were held in detention for three days.

FamilyMan Impregnates 15-year-old Daughter In Lagos, Wife Aborts Pregnanc by DaFuhrer(op): 11:11am On Jun 20, 2016
One Ike Iwuanyanwu has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.

The suspect, a driver residing on Anuoluwapo Street at Ajao Estate, in the Isolo area of the state, was arrested at the weekend after the matter was reported at the Ajao Estate Police Division.

According to the Punch, Iwuanyanwu had also beaten his daughter and wife, warning them not to disclose the incident to anyone but his wife informed her family members who went to the girl’s school to confirm the story from her.

Upon her confirmation, the case was reported to the state Ministry of Youth and Social Development, which informed the police and the victim was taken into custody by the Lagos State Government.

Meanwhile, the unnamed victim’s mother had reportedly aborted the pregnancy, saying she cannot bear such abomination.

The pregnancy was said to have been aborted before she was rescued and taken into custody by government officials.
The Coordinator, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Lagos State, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the victim was safe in government custody.

She said, “Social workers have rescued the victim. She is now at an orphanage provided by the state government. We have also called for the duplicate case file.

“The girl’s mother was arrested for allegedly aborting the pregnancy. The police may grant her bail on the grounds that she has a four-year-old boy,” Lola added.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said investigation was ongoing.
The PPRO said, “The man raped and impregnated his daughter, while the mother also procured abortion for her.

“The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has ordered that the case be transferred to the gender unit of the command for investigation.

“The girl is placed in a shelter because we cannot afford to see her go back to that vicinity,” she added.

Christianity EtcPastors That Are Poor Were Not Called By God – Uma Ukpai by DaFuhrer(op): 10:59am On Jun 20, 2016
Dr Uma Ukpai, the president and founder of Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has said poor men of God did not receive divine calling.
He also told Daily Independent that it was untrue that people resorted to Church establishment out of joblessness.
According to Ukpai, “Jesus calls church business. He said, ‘I am about my father’s business’. He called church work business and what is business? Business is investment plus gain, minus loss. In church planting, no pastor can collect offering without giving account and survive. Every church has elders and the job of the elders is to make sure that account is given; it is not even publicly but given internally but the account must be given.
“Church is all about investment and the gain they make is not in money but in people; that is the gain they make. People also can be called money because for instance, if a pastor’s ministry can cause 20 women to get pregnant; those women will not forget the pastor. If a pastor’s ministry can produce one of the richest 10 men in the country, those men will not forget the man who made them what they are.
“When you are into ministry and you have what we call anointing, you have become profitable; you begin to touch lives; you begin to bless people; you begin to change the stories of families and your own story will change also because the man that waters others shall be watered by God. There is so much misinformation about the church. It is not all about money. If your pastor has anointing that can make the blind see, cripples walk, leprosy to disappear, that pastor is in money.
“The only man you can worry about is a man who has no anointing; a man who God has rejected; a pastor who God has not approved what he is doing. God does not bless what he does not approve. If God approves what a pastor is doing, he will have more money than he can spend. I am an example.”
On the forthcoming general elections vis-a-vis the challenges of Boko Haram insurgency, Ukpai said the crisis was part of Nigerian culture.
“There is nothing new happening. We are used to fighting; we are used to killing and duping one another. People try to magnify little problems here and there as things that can overwhelm or swallow Nigeria. Let me tell you, we shall still be here after 2015. All these problems are old problems. Nobody has been able to manufacture new ones.
“Even APC (All Progressives Congress) or PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), they have not been able to manufacture new problems. So, this country will still be here after 2015. All those stupid prophecies are from uninformed prophets, who have neither heard from nor seen God. Take it from me that this country will still be here and intact after 2015”.
Commenting on attacks on Christians in some parts of the country, Ukpai said persecution had been part of the Christian calling.
Quoting from the Holy Book, Ukpai pointed out that “The Bible promised us persecution; it did not say we shall not be persecuted. Secondly, persecution sharpens us and makes us pray better. I would rather have Christians persecuted than Christians not persecuted, because the more you persecute Christians, the more they will pray; the more they will seek after God. Those who seek after God shall know their God and those who know their God shall do exploit. So, in the attempt to harm us, they are sharpening us for a better and greater day.”
Ukpai, however, appealed to politicians and other well-meaning Nigerians to work towards the peace, unity and prosperity of the country.
His words: “We are praying for politics with principles; we are praying for politicians who have prepared themselves to serve and not to lord over us; and we are looking for politicians who are accountable to us and to themselves. But most importantly, we are asking for electorate who would not ask for bribes. Let nobody collect money to vote. If you collect money to vote, you have destroyed your moral right to account from the elected officers.
“We want our politicians to know that we cannot continue to run in circle; let them show some level of maturity. Finally, every politician must respect the sacredness of human beings. Let nobody be killed because of another person’s ambition. When anybody is killed, he cannot be reproduced and because we didn’t create anybody, we don’t have the right to kill anybody. So, can our politicians try to show good measure of maturity and intelligence, fear of God and preparedness to obey the laws of the land? They behave as though there are no laws. There are laws and we must obey those laws; that is what will help us move forward and move in a manner that will bring reward to the whole nation.”

Health10 Greasy-skin Cures To Make Your Skin Makeup-friendly by DaFuhrer(op): 2:54pm On Jun 19, 2016
Your skin’s condition is pretty much cyclic and often depends on our menstruation cycle, changes in weather patterns and stress. These factors are out of your control. Fortunately, there are many things you can control to improve your skin's condition.

1. Never go to bed with makeup on
Sleep is essential for your body to renew itself and your skin is no different. Going to bed with makeup on can cause clogged pores and dull skin.

2. Your skin needs a detox too
This is no myth. If you can bear it, go a few days without applying foundation or concealer and allow your skin to breathe.

3. Don’t skip your skincare routine
This goes beyond removing your makeup. It also washes away the day’s dirt. Stick to your regular cleansing routine and put back the necessary moisture lost throughout the day.

4. Keep your hands away from your face
Touching your face transfers all the impurities from your hands to your face. Remember that your hands touch almost everything.

5. Take note of skincare ingredients
There are countless ingredients used in skincare products that all claim to restore, nourish and basically turn your skin to gold. But who knows what those ingredients really are. Always research your product and read reviews from others who have used it before.

6. Include avocados, tomatoes, berries and, yes, lots of water to your diet
In order to nourish your skin you have to nourish your body. Add fresh food to your diet like green vegetables, avo, tomatoes and berries. They’re all rich in antioxidants and water.

7. Spice things up - literally
Spices such as turmeric contain a great amount of anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic qualities. Include it in your cooking regularly.

8. Occasionally add apple cider vinegar to your cleansing routine
Not the best smelling thing on earth, and also quite astringent, so let’s place emphasis on occasionally. But Apple cider vinegar is a great way to balance your skin’s pH and, according to Glamour, Scarlett Johansson swears by it.

9. Routine facials – especially masks
A facial gives your skin that much-needed deep clean, so make getting a facial once a month should be a priority.

10. Take the shine off
If you’re really prone to excessive shine, powder your face with a loose powder, mattifying primer or foil-wrapped packets of alcohol-saturated wipes for oily skin.

Health4 Diseases You Can Catch From Kissing by DaFuhrer(op): 12:58pm On Jun 17, 2016
Knowing a potential significant other’s sexually transmitted disease status is mandatory these days. But is there even more to be concerned about?

It seems as though before you even kiss goodnight, you may want to check your date’s dental records. Studies show that cavities and gum disease are contagious—and can be transmitted through swapping spit, just like colds and flu. In fact, some experts estimate that up to 500 different germs can be transmitted in a single kiss.

Saliva and the mouth are full of viruses and bacteria, including some that cause cavities and gum disease.

Kissing a partner who is actively infected with gum disease or cavity-causing bacteria can cause a person who previously had a low concentration of these bacteria to ‘catch’ problems, due to the extra dose of bacteria from kissing—particularly if that person has poor oral habits that set the stage for tooth decay.

1. Periodontitis
In a dental care article published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, it was revealed that periodontitis might be passed from parents to children and between intimate partners.

The bacteria that inhabit the periodontal pockets are also present on the oral soft tissues, teeth, tongue and saliva. They can be transferred from one person to another through saliva, intimate kissing, sharing of food, utensils, or toothbrushes, and can result in exposure to saliva that contain the bacteria that cause periodontal disease.

2. Cold sores
Cold sores are caused by Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1). In contrast to infections spread through the saliva, HSV-1 is spread through open cold sores on the lips or near the mouth. Although the infection is contagious through all stages of a cold sore, the infection is most contagious when the sore is open and leaking fluid.

3. Hand, foot, and mouth disease
Hand, foot, and mouth disease, caused by Coxsackie virus, is another infectious disease that is spread through open sores in the mouth. This infection is common in kids, especially those in daycare or preschool settings. It spreads primarily via the fecal-oral route, a common problem among daycares, since changing of diapers goes on all day.

4. Strep Throat
“Strep” bacteria are highly contagious, and they spread through airborne droplets. This means that tiny droplets containing the bacteria are released into the air when someone with strep breathes, coughs, kisses someone or sneezes.

To prevent transmission of periodontitis between family members or intimate partners, it is important to follow proper dental care and oral hygiene techniques that include daily brushing and flossing and to see a dental care provider routinely and possibly a Periodontist for professional cleanings and examinations.

Now, the good news: Most people have natural defenses in their immune system that protect them from infection. However, if you do have gum issues, it is a good idea to avoid kissing infants and those with compromised immune systems (including people with chronic diseases) on the mouth, says Reynolds.

And don’t let wet kisses scare you: In fact, bacteria are more likely to lurk in a dry mouth.
Even if your partner has gum disease, you don’t have to stop smooching. Just take extra effort to practice good oral hygiene, which of course includes regular brushing and flossing, and see your dentist every six months.

RomanceSix Reasons Women Leave The Men They Love by DaFuhrer(op): 12:29pm On Jun 17, 2016
Love is without judgment, bias and bigotry or at least it should be. Love is effortless, but a relationship does require work. It’s like slow dancing in a burning room and many times it can end disastrously. These are the six reasons why most women leave their men.

1. They Feel Lonely
Women need to feel like they matter. If they feel like their man isn’t present, there is no point in continuing the relationship. Men tend to detach quickly as they get comfortable and for women, it can get very lonely. Physical presence isn’t everything as women want their partners to be emotionally present as well. A lack of love and attention can cause this feeling of loneliness to grow, which can cause your paths to separate.

2. They’re Not Acknowledged
There isn’t anything more detrimental to a woman than not being acknowledged or listened to when she is speaking. It’s important that she feels like she is being understood, respected, and accepted. Women love to share, and when they’re talking, they want to be listened to and paid attention to. Love is all about communicating, and if a woman doesn’t feel like her presence is being acknowledged with attention and love, she’ll not hold on to her man for much longer.

3. They Don’t Feel Sexy Anymore
It’s no secret that men are creatures of sex, but women are more inclined towards intimacy and pre-intimacy. Women want to be desired completely and not just for sex. They want spontaneity and can be easily bored by routine. They want to be romanced and craved by their men. Men do that, but once they get the women they love, these efforts go away very quickly. However, women want to be desired throughout the relationship if they’re to stay in it.

4. A Significant Life Change
If a woman feels like she’s going through a significant life change without the support and presence of her man, she will let go of him. Life changes constantly and women want their partner’s support and constant motivation if they’re to give their all in return. It’s not a lot to ask for and it’s most certainly doable for men, but their selfishness often gets in the way.

5.Their Man Is Predictable
Men are very vulnerable to fall into a routine, and most men don’t want to participate in stuff that isn’t about them. Women want a man who is unpredictable and delivers spontaneous moments throughout the course of their relationship. Predictability can very easily lead to growing apart and soon the relationship feels like it is not worth carrying on.

6. Their Man Is Absent
Women are very tolerant, but a man who doesn’t give them enough time is very seldom tolerated, and if so, he doesn’t last long. Women want men who are present and by their side most of the time, if not at all times. Being physically as well as emotionally present is all that some women want from their men and not getting it can lead to a change of heart.

Foreign AffairsThe Massive Implications Of Trump's Muslim Travel Ban (photos) by DaFuhrer(op): 12:07pm On Jun 17, 2016
(CNN) — Donald Trump said Monday that if elected he would "suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats."

What would this latest version -- there have been several -- of the GOP presumptive presidential nominee's proposed ban look like? And how many people would it affect? The short answer is millions. Here's the math, including nonimmigrant and immigrant visas from countries that have any sort of terrorist activity:

Start with 'terrorist safe havens': 12 countries; 496,436 nonimmigrant and 74,283 immigrant visas in 2015.

The State Department's annual report on global terrorist activity lists 12 "terrorist safe havens" around the world where "terrorists are able to organize, plan, raise funds, communicate, recruit, train, transit and operate." These safe havens include Somalia, Mali, Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.
Total countries so far: 12

Add 'state sponsors of terror': 3 countries; 45,935 nonimmigrant and 10,722 immigrant visas in 2015
An additional three countries -- Iran, Sudan and Syria -- are designated as state sponsors of terrorism.
Total countries so far: 15

Nations where terror networks are based and operate: 14 countries; 1,741,169 nonimmigrant and 63,106 immigrant visas in 2015

The report lists a further 14 countries where terrorists operate or are based, though are not considered "safe havens." This list becomes broader since terror groups ranging from ISIS to al Qaeda and its affiliates have successfully recruited and infiltrated numerous operatives and cells into countries ranging from Turkey and Russia to Nigeria and India.
Total countries so far: 29

Other countries with active terror cells: 11 countries; 295,695 nonimmigrant and 16,883 immigrant visas in 2015
The State Department's list does not include countries that have smaller though substantial presence of jihadis or suspected jihadis, such as France, Belgium or the U.K., each of which has dozens of known terror cells and hundreds of known and suspected terror suspects. A total of 11 countries fall into this category.
Final tally: 40 countries

The State Department granted 2,571,762 nonimmigrant visas to residents of those 40 countries in fiscal year 2015. State also granted 158,877 immigrant visas to individuals from those countries in that same period.
Citizens from some of these countries, such as France, Belgium and the U.K., do not require visas for tourist travel to the U.S. More than 7.5 million tourists from these countries traveled to the U.S. in 2014, according to data provided by the Department of Commerce.
All told, as many as 10.2 million people could be barred from the U.S.

CareerDaar Communications Sacks All AIT, Raypower Workers In Benin by DaFuhrer(op): 11:17am On Jun 15, 2016
The management of the African Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower FM Stations has sacked all the workers of its station in Benin, Edo State.

The decision was conveyed in a letter dated June 2, 2016, signed by Victor Okasoga, the Senior Manager in charge of Human Resources.

Daar Communications Plc is the owner of AIT and Raypower FM stations.
The letter advised the sacked staff to surrender all company properties in their possession and added, "Failure to surrender company properties in your possession may delay the processing of your entitlements".
The dismissal came three weeks after some of the affected staff that include reporters, cameramen, newscasters, presenters and producers, who are owed up to 24 months of arrears of salaries, protested the non-payment of their salaries.

The company's head of administration, in charge of Benin, Ndah Muhammed, told PREMIUM TIMES the decision to lay off the workers was taken by the management at the head office of the company.

"Please, get in contact with our head office. The sacking was not from Benin here. It was from head office," he said.

PREMIUM TIMES understands that the management gave all the sacked workers forms to fill and return, purportedly for payment of the outstanding salaries, under the intimidating presence of armed policemen at the premises.

The latest sack action by AIT/Raypower followed a similar lay-off of 13 senior journalists by the management of Leaders and Company Limited, publishers of ThisDay Newspapers in Abuja last Friday. ThisDay also owes its workers backlog of salaries and allowances.

Earlier, the management of Global Media Mirror Limited, publishers of National Mirror Newspapers, had also relieved some of its workers in what it described as "a reorganization exercise" without paying some of the staff the arrears of 12 months unpaid salaries.

HealthVery Hot Drinks May Cause Cancer – UN by DaFuhrer(op): 11:08am On Jun 15, 2016
Drinking very hot beverages “probably” causes cancer of the oesophagus, the UN’s cancer agency said Wednesday, while lifting suspicion from coffee and the herbal drink mate if consumed at “normal serving temperatures”.

“These results suggest that drinking very hot beverages is one probable cause of oesophageal cancer and that it is the temperature, rather than the drinks themselves, that appears to be responsible,” said Christopher Wild, director of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

PoliticsManaging The Buhari Brand by DaFuhrer(op): 10:57am On Jun 15, 2016
The seeming dwindling trust and popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari in the first one year of his administration has exposed the unsavory manner his image has been managed by his media aides. There is no doubt that the hitherto much taunted personal integrity and “body language of President Buhari” seems to have started evaporating considering that at the moment, everything he says or does comes under the scrutiny of many Nigerians. This development therefore needs to be addressed urgently.

Recall that President Buahri was overwhelmingly voted into office in the March 28, 2015 Presidential elections, following his vigorous propagation of the message of change and his perceived personality as a man of impeccable character, astuteness and trust. He canvassed for the support and votes of Nigerians with a solemn undertaking that our wobbly socio-economic situation will be improved. Unfortunately, one year after, it has become increasingly tedious for President Bahari’s media aides to adequately defend and manage the image of the President sold to Nigerians on election.
In confirmation of this fact, the senior special assistant to President Buahri on media, Femi Adesina, while speaking at the monthly meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), in Abuja recently, reportedly admitted facing some challenges managing the Buhari brand due to the President’s reticence and thriftiness.

This is perhaps the reason why there have been so much conflicting reports and flip-flopping in the information being disseminated to the public about the President’s state of health and itineraries. For instance, on May 22, available reports from the Presidency stated that the President’s May 23 trip to Lagos had been cancelled due to his busy schedule. But it was later reported that the aborted trip was due to the President’s failing health which his media aide, Femi Adesina denied, saying that the President “is as fit as the fiddle”. 24 hours later, Mr Adesina issued another statement implying that the President was not that fit after all, ‘President Muhammadu Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London on Monday June 6th to rest. ‘During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T. specialist for a persistent ear infection.” On the contrary, on his way to London, President Buhari reportedly confirmed to newsmen at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport, Abuja that he was going to check out his ear.

Further media reports reveal that perhaps it was the President’s failing health that prevented his scheduled trip to flag off the implementation of the UNEP recommendations on the clean up Ogoni land programme. He also shelved his engagement at the 48 Ordinary Summit of Head of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) that he was supposed to host in Abuja.

We are aware that President Buhari is having some challenges with the economy and security in the country. He has equally scored some good marks over the last one year of his administration especially with corruption and fight against terror. For so many Nigerians, his commitment and integrity are not in doubt. But it needs to be emphasized that the President is occupying a very important and sensitive office.

He is the President of all Nigerians. Like he declared during his inaugural speech on May 29, ‘he is for everybody and for nobody’. Therefore, Nigerians have the right to know the true health condition of their President rather than politicising such vital pieces of information that would keep the citizenry abreast of what is happening with their President. This would certainly impact negatively on the President’s image as well as create some tension in the polity beyond whatever benefits, if there is any, arising from overstretched propaganda.
We believe that the President’s image and popularity would be better managed if the true information and facts are left to thrive in line with international best practices. This is because Nigerians have become a lot more hardened and pedantic and would no longer want to be taken for granted. We therefore believe that President Buhari’s media aides should be more strategic and proactive in information management.

It is crucial for them to get out of the seeming larger than life portrait of the President they are painting, stem propaganda and confront reality as it is by ensuring that there is a much more correct and coherent information flow from the government to the people on matters of governance. This way the President’s trust and image can be a lot guaranteed and better promoted.

PoliticsFree Meal In Schools Will Curb Drop-out Rate – Ikpeazu by DaFuhrer(op): 12:34pm On Jun 14, 2016
Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has opined that the government’s Free School Meal Initiative is a move to put an end to the school drop-out condition in the state.
Ikpeazu made the statement during the School Lunch Programme held on Monday at Ntigha primary school in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

The governor pointed out that the scheme would ensure that all the children were adequately taken care of irrespective of parental status and background.

The Governor said he felt indebted to the children who were the future leaders, hinting that the scheme guaranteed that every pupil in Abia State was sure of at least one meal a day.

He said the initiative was geared towards closing the gap, providing meals to the children and assisting the needy which, would be sustained by Abia families.

Free school lunch bags, a bus for food distribution to various primary schools and employment for the chef and stewards amongst others were part of the gains associated with the scheme.

The governor’s wife, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu also dewormed thousands of primary school pupils during the programme.

PoliticsNigerian Oil Production At Historic Low by DaFuhrer(op): 2:39pm On Jun 13, 2016
Militant attacks in the Niger Delta have pushed Nigerian crude oil production to its lowest point in more than a decade, OPEC said.

VIENNA, June 13 (UPI) -- Nigerian crude oil production in May was the lowest in more than a decade because of militant activity in the Niger Delta, a report from OPEC said.

A group calling itself the Niger Delta Avengers emerged in late spring to declare war against national and international oil companies operating in the Niger Delta. The group said it was frustrated that the government in Abuja is favoring the industry and the corresponding revenue stream over the welfare of the people living in the Niger Delta.

Vowing to bring some operators to a halt, the group last week said it bombed one of the major crude oil pipelines running through the region. A new group calling itself the Ultimate Warriors of the Niger Delta surfaced mid-June to say it would shut Chevron's operations down completely unless the government hands over 60 percent of the oil blocks in the Niger Delta.

Of the 13 members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, Nigeria ranks seventh in terms of overall production. The country is one of the top exporters to the United States, the world's leading economy.
In a comment on short-term market disruptions in May, OPEC said "Nigerian output slumped to levels not seen in over a decade on the back of a wave of militant activity."

OPEC reports Nigeria crude oil production for May averaged 1.4 million barrels per day, down 15 percent from the previous month. Production averaged 1.8 million bpd during the fourth quarter of last year.

Nigeria relies heavily on oil for a source of revenue. In its latest survey, the International Monetary Fund said the challenges for Nigeria's economy are "substantial." Government deficit has doubled and total exports are down roughly 40 percent.
The IMF estimates the Nigeria economy will decline for the rest of the year, while inflation runs close to 10 percent.

CrimeAnother Judge Kidnapped In Kogi, Orderly Killed by DaFuhrer(op): 2:31pm On Jun 13, 2016
Barely one year after a judge of the Kogi State High Court, Justice Samuel Obayomi was kidnapped and his police orderly killed, a judge of the Customary Court of Appeal in the state, Mr. Isaq Momoh Jimoh Usman has been Kidnapped by suspected gunmen.

His police orderly was reportedly killed during the incident which occurred along the Itakpe – Kuroko road Sunday evening while they were returning to Lokoja.

The judge was said to have travelled to his village over the weekend and was returning to Lokoja when the suspected gunmen stopped his car along the Okene – Itakpe bye pass in Okehi local government.

It was learnt that the suspected kidnappers mowed down the police orderly immediately while the driver of the judge received bullet wounds, before their victim was taken to unknown destination.

A source said that the late police orderly made to prevent the kidnappers from abducteding the judge when he was shot by one of the abductors, and his service pistol taken away.

The remains of late police orderly said the source, was deposited at the morgue in an undisclosed hospital, and the driver who was said to have received several gun shots is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lokoja.

Confirming the incident, the information officer, Kogi State Ministry Justice , Mr. Saqeeb Saeed, said that the Customary Court of Appeal judge was kidnapped along Okene – Kuroko bye pass on Sunday evening.
Efforts made to confirm the killing of the police orderly proved abortive as calls made to the Kogi Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wllly Aya was not responded to.

Similarly, it was gathered that two yet-to-be identified women coming from Abuja were abducted along the Obajana – Okene road last friday.

It would be recalled that a forthnight ago, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase deployed a detachment of Special Anti-robbery Squad from Abuja, while apatrol helicopter was stationed in Lokoja to combat the menace of kidnappers in Kogi State.

However, barely one week after the federal SARS operatives returned to their base, activities of the abductors appeared to have spiked in Kogi State again.
