Mintayo, yetseyi, Esdb and all I will attempt to use an analogy to explain Lev19:28 perhaps it will help us to better comprehend the passage. “You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD.”Lev 19:28….. Let us replace “make any cuttings in your flesh” with “Use your TV” in Lev 19:28 and Let us replace “tattoo any marks on you” with “Use your Laptop” Let us replace “the dead” with “watching Indecency” in same Lev 19:28 This implies "Make any cuttings in your flesh= Use your TV"………eqn XThis is what we will get “You shall not Use your TV for watching indecency, nor use your laptop: I am the LORD.” (Permit me to call this Mintayo 19:28)……………… (This is an analogy please) From my knowledge of English what Mintayo 19:28 is saying is that: “I should not use my TV and my laptop for watching indecency”. Good. Ok, If someone comes and say “It is wrong for Christians to tattoo on their body” according to Lev 19:8, you would agree with me that what the person is saying according to our derived passage( check eqn Y above) is same as “It is wrong for Christians to use their laptop according to Mintayo 19:28. But, sincerely, is that what “Mintayo 19:28” actually says? Mintayo 19:28 specifies what I should not use the laptop for, but never condemns me from using the laptop. Same in Lev 19:28 "don't make any cuttings in your body for the dead(This was the religious practice at that time) and don't print on your body for the same reason. Now pagans use Laptop, atheist do, Muslims do and Unbelievers do, is that enough reason for me to say "Use of Laptop"(in this context) does not glorify God? If Some other people use the laptop wrongly perhaps use it for yahoo yahoo, watching indecency and all that, Is that automatic that I have been denied Use of Laptop? I believe the "what for" makes all the difference and is specify in the passage. I don't use tattoo, I will never use it,but like Timmytimmy rightly posted, the Bible does not clearly condemns it like some people make it appear to be. I believe it will not be right for me to be misinterpreting some passage because I am not comfortable with it or have been taught not to be comfortable with it. If we refuse to look at Lev 19:28 in context we would as well tell Christians that having tribal marks is wrong because Lev 19:28 mentions "cutting in your flesh" which I believe tribal marks is. Lale which is used for beautification and is lovely would also be religiously condemned cos what the NKJV translates as tatoo is "Print" in KJV". Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.Lev 19:28 (KJV) At the end of it,writing on my palm too will become wrong according to the passage. |
@Timmytimmy God bless you for your contribution. You have said it all. I couldn't agree more with your opinion on this |
HumbledbYGrace: vickyO:I think VickyO have answered you ... |
Mintayo:Leviticus 19:28 is referring to pagan rituals that where performed over the burial of their dead. This verse is prohibiting worldly, pagan rituals that the nations outside of Israel had as tradition. Lale is an art of printing on the body which the same Lev 19:28 you quoted condemned. As regards body modifications just like yetseyi and you I will also say hmmm . But will seize the opportunity to ask a few questions, "Is it a sin to undergone correctional surgery of humans born with a defect? Is it a sin to separate Siamese twins? Are they not beautifully and wonderfully made? Don't you think an attempt to do so is synonymous to saying God didn't create them well? I still stand on my conviction tattoing the body is not for Christians!I understand and I respect your conviction, we could go on and on as whether it is appropriate for whether someone has a tattoo or not or whether one should have a tattoo or not but My final shot is this “in essentials, unity; in doubtful matters, liberty; in all things, Love. I have read of testimonies of people who through this same tatoo have brought the lost to share in this amazing grace of Christ. Shalom! |
Mintayo:Hey, Minty, It is important to note that in Lev19:28 the context of the passage was clearly related to false religious practices and is not that of body decoration and other cosmetic body modifications but one of marking one's self in connection with religious worship,God was specifically telling Israel to stay far from the religious practices of the surrounding people groups. But, today tattoo is a decorative means of self expression and personal decoration. There is something called lale which the Hausa's use which is similar to tattoos and is also for ornamentation aimed to beautify their looks just like applying eye pencil. Christians have the liberty to modify their appearance for beauty in many ways such as clothing choice, makeup, correcting a club foot, plastic surgery, hair cutting and colouring, weight loss, body-building, ear piercing.etc Tattoo is not for everyone, and is certainly not for a Christian who feels uncomfortable with it.I totally agree with that. But to generalize and say it is a way of defiling God's temple, you may be wrong. If you see the emboldened part of your post you will discover the "I"s and "Me" as regard definition of defiling the temple not as the Bible stated it in I Cor 6:18,19.Believe me, Is just your perception and largely what you have been taught. Having say that, i reiterate what i posted earlier,I won't encourage it for Christians in this part of the world. |
Mintayo:Including tribal marks .....IMO, there is nothing wrong with tattoos generally. But I won't encourage it for Christians in this part of the world because of the kind of message it sends and the perception. In other not to cause believers with weaker conscience to stumble, it is better avoided. Yes, knowledge makes us feel free but love is what strengthen the church. |
And you post this in investment section fa,tori Olorun...smh |

odimbannamdi:Guy, I salute your reasoning to have thought of that but if you understand what Omakay posted earlier, you will realize that this system you are talking about is same(even more stressful) as entering a trade for "Goes out/stay between" for 10 mins with +2,-2 as your barrier......talking about time of volatility, i don't think you can determine that cos Random like he mentioned is Random. However, there may be tactics to go about this .. |
