Vela01: My Fellow Ibadan man😂
I started this job this year too, I had not driven well in Lagos, except for few trip into Lagos. I lived in Akobo Area of Ibadan and relocated to OTA. So I believe I was like you when I started.
There were lots of challenges. The first few weeks were my learning time. Yes, you will always work with the Map, but it is not always accurate, but most times, it's 80% good.
You have the right information by only wanting to stay majorly on the highland, for a beginner, it's the best advise you can get out there.
The only thing/person that will help you is YOU!
You have to be determined to succeed. It is important to start and test the Waters and then, there are many things you'll learn on the job. Boss man... thanks for your contribution. I’m staying at Eleyele. I want to relocate this December and start fully by January. I no wan rush things. The fun, the stress, the wahala, the good part and all involved in the business is what I want to experience with my free time. Ibadan is great but the business no too make sense here. Make I come experience Lagos like you too 😁thanks for your contribution again, Boss. Hope to join you all soon. |

Olayetan: Map will help you but you can't fully rely on the map, you can always ask your riders for directions. Let them know you're new to lagos and they will direct you so you don't go and follow 1 way road unknowingly.
Work 8days or 7days weekly? Well, it's very possible to net 20k daily, even more than that, but are you aware of house rent in badore, it's pretty expensive o. Thanks Boss. Sorry, I meant 7-8 hours daily. As for the rent, I’m aware. I have online side hustle that is paying too just that, I have so much free time that I want to invest in another business. But if you have any other suggestions, I will so much appreciate it, Boss. That’s why am here reading and learning from you all and it will also help others too. Kindly share suggestions, pls. Bless you! |

Happy Sunday, bosses. Please everyone, for the last time, I want to ask this question before I jump into it.
Here’s the question;
“I have never driven before in Lagos and am planning to relocate from Ibadan to Lagos so please, CAN I DRIVE WITH GOOGLE MAP WITHOUT ISSUES?” (Though, I don’t mind using/practicing with it for 2 to 3 weeks before I start fully - even if to practice for 1 month to be familiar with the roads)
As someone advised and even helped with house agent’s contact, I want to get apartment in Badore, Ajah and I PLAN TO WORK AROUND ISLAND “ONLY”. I also plan to work for 8 hours daily and hope to be netting at least 20k daily after all expenses.
God bless you all |

Biodun1929: On whether 40k a day is guaranteed in Ibadan. That's a capital NO. It's not even fully guaranteed in Lagos, not to talk of Ibadan. Maybe 15k a day is guaranteed in IB, someone else can speak on this, but honest opinion, the business doesn't pay much in IB. That's why I stopped and came back to lagos. Thanks so much for your response, Boss. I said, 40k weekly NOT daily 😁. If it’s guaranteed that I can make up to 40k weekly after all deductions. Thanks, Boss. 🙏 |

emmancecute: for someone that lived in ibadan for several years and started the business in 2018, here are my candid advise to you. Considering cost of maintenance and fueling now, I'd advise you go for a cheaper car. You can look toward a toks standard Corolla if that's what you want for 4 -5m max but I will never touch that car even with a long pole as I have discovered better alternatives. Doing this, you'll have extra money to cater for other business ideas that might come up later which might eventually be your exit plan. Secondly on the accommodation, depending on your budget and needs which I don't know until you give clarifications on, I'll abstractly advise you tend towards alagbole, ajuwon and akute axis. Reason being this areas share very close proximity to civilisation. Places like Ikeja, ogba, Maryland are closeby, this places now have good road networks too and I believe the rent here won't dig a hole in ur pocket either. You'll surely make 20k net as soon as you're able to master the trade and that's where this thread comes in. Thanks so much, boss. Please, kindly list the alternatives. Bless you, sir!! |

Nelochukwu: Brotherly. Biodun has done justice to ur questions. I'll just add for u to get a cheaper car if u can as someone suggested like a Honda Civic etc so u can recover quicker.
Certainly u will atleast net 20k driving for 8hrs daily.
You can also consider Ikorodu as houses are cheaper there. You can work ur way to the mainland and island then close with a trip back to ikorodu daily.
Godsped Thanks so much, Boss. I appreciate! God bless 🙏 |

Biodun1929: You're welcome.
On where to live in lagos... As I said, I was away for almost 10 years, and just got back earlier this year. Things have really changed, and I might not be the best person to answer this question. I live around a place called Ikotun (Governors road). I got a house in this area cos I'm into poultry farming and where I use for the business is close to the apartment I got. Also, because I grew up in the area and know it well.
My rent is 850k for a room and parlor self contain. The building was nearly renovated. But if you're looking for room and parlor self con in a new building in the area (Ikotun, Idimu, Gowon estate, Akowonjo, Igando area), it cost like 1 million a year...some places, 1.2. And then you add the other charges, the total package might be like 1.5 to 1.6 million. My total package was 1,250,000. This axis I mentioned is relatively peaceful. I drive mostly at night and enter my house after midnight most nights. Another peaceful area I know is surulere (Masha, Akerele, Ogunlana drive, Adeniran Ogunsanya axis), but the rent is surely way more expensive than the area I know. Thanks so much my brother. This is really helpful... God will continue to bless and protect you. I really appreciate, boss. |

Biodun1929: I'm sure someone will answer with even more details than me, but I got drawn to your post cos I lived in Ibadan for 8 years and I relocated back to lagos in February. I also did Bolt driving for a month in IB before coming back to lagos.
On your first question about not knowing Lagos roads, I won't lie to you, it will be difficult at first, cos there are a lot of law enforcement on lagos roads unlike Ibadan roads. You might not know a road is one-way and pass it. But if you know how to use Google Map while driving, then it will surely make things easier for you. I'd advise you to practise with Google maps for like 2 weeks before starting full.time driving. This would save you a lot of time you might waste trying to locate places in lagos without knowledge of lagos roads or knowing how to use GPS.
On your second question, working 8-4 is 8 hours. Since you're planning on buying a tokunbo corolla, you will sure make 20k a day if you drive 8 hours in lagos. I don't know about 50k like a lot say on here, but 20k is more than 100% guaranteed as long as you have a good car.
The first few weeks might seem tasking since you're not familiar with lagos roads, but trust me, it gets better with time. Practice makes perfect. You wont regret it. Thanks so much, boss. I really appreciate! The bolded part — I will start practicing very well with google map as suggested even here in Ibadan before I finally relocate. I know Ibadan roads very well but I will be practicing the google map when I get my car.
Please, where do you suggest I can rent apartment in Lagos? This question might be funny but it’s necessary cos I don’t really know Lagos and I don’t want to relate with my cousins there. Please, kindly suggest areas with affordable prices and peace of mind.
Thanks again, boss! 🙏 |

PulaPower: Morning bro..
For you to understand how most of these Africa countries works, try Benin 🇧🇯 republic first.
In Benin 🇧🇯, your bills are monthly - water, light, rent, & some other mini tax bills. This is how other Africa countries are too. Nigeria is the country that differs in terms of paying bills..
If you move to Benin 🇧🇯 and find it convenient for you to live, then you can try any other Africa countries. I'll suggest other Africa countries you can try but try Benin 🇧🇯 first to understand what life outside Nigeria fills like.. You can always keep me updated!
Benin 🇧🇯 system and other Africa countries system is the same system they use in Europe, as all bills in Europe are also on monthly basis.. Thanks so much Bro |
