NYSC / Corps Member Builds Corpers Lodge In Kaduna by dai513(f): 7:52am On Feb 02, 2013
Batch A 2012/2013 Corp Member Builds Corpers Lodge In Kaduna State

Miss Monica Onuoha used this one year youth service to make impact on the lives of her fellow corp members and the Sabon Gaya community of Chikun Local Government. It was an emotional commissioning on Jan 31st,2013 when Ms. Onuoha stood with the State Coordinator to cut the ribbon, formally opening an 8 room lodge for Corp Members at Government Secondary School Sabon Gaya, Kaduna. There was much joy on the faces of the NYSC officials and the LG officials who were in attendance. Some of her donors were on hand that day as well.

Miss Onuoha, an Abia State indigene began the project a month after being posted to her PPA. She shared her experiences with Corp Members, the press and the general public present at the commissioning. One thing that stood out to the crowd was her willingness to bravely knock on doors to solicit funds, get contractors for the project and actually complete the project. She also mentioned that apart from living in a different place, she has now learnt the basics of building a structure (Skill Acquisition!!).

Due to the construction of the Lodge, GSS Sabon Gaya will have a comfortable place for Corp Members to lay their hands. This will greatly benefit the students.

Ms. Onuoha also completed other community service projects during her service year: a skills acquisition programme for women in her host community, donation of school books, donation of hospital materials, and afforestation.

As a corp member, I was inspired by Ms. Onuoha's selflessness and courage to execute such a massive project.
I hope to do something (even on a small scale) to make impact on my host community as well. I was also touched by the hands that were on deck throughout the project. She did not fail to speak highly of her fellow Batch A Corp Member posted to the school, a person who acted as her right hand man throughout the building process; selfless team work at its finest!

Kudos Monica Onuoha and all those completing CDS projects in their host communities.

Great job on the projects listed. We should all strive to do something during our service year. It is a Personal Community Development Project so there should be no expectation for a reward/compensation right?
Culture / Re: Are The Idomas Igbos by dai513(f): 3:16am On Oct 14, 2010
Excanny, it did sound confusing. I am Idoma, maternal side is from Nsukka like a lot of people from my part of Idoma land (You can easily jog from my grand father's house to certain parts of Nsukka), so there is a lot of mingling. My roots are in 2 beautiful cultures that I continue to learn about everyday.

We are relatives, we have similar cultures, looking at the history books, some parts of Benue State (parts of Idoma land) were carved out of Igboland. all the "no we are not, we don't need you" talk is unnecessary. I embrace my culture, I love it so much but I also recognize my roots and love the fact that my ancestors are from a rich culture despite us being given a new home. I love my "relatives" in the South East and some of them have love for their Idoma brothers and sisters.

This is a late response but you are right, there are great similarities between both "tribes". Idomas can be found in Enugu. I have seen the dance done in a similar way but my people are also partly from Enugu.
We have similarities with our languages, certain rites and passages and aspects of the culture in general.
Romance / Re: Should I Just Move On? by dai513(f): 3:06pm On Mar 22, 2009
RUN!!!!RUN AS FAST AS YOUR LEGS WILL CARRY YOU. Honey, if a man says I am contemplating someone else, he is contemplating someone else. Don't even try to sift through the comment with a fine tooth comb, it is what it is at this point. You will survive, we pay too much attention to how difficult a process will be instead of its worth at the end. You are young and you will find a wonderful guy soon (or he will find you). Don't let any body use you as their reserve because if it doesn't work out with his ex and he marries you, there will be some other person down the line that he will cheat on you with because he knows you will always stick around.

NYSC / Re: Help Please! Advice For Expatriate Going For Nysc by dai513(f): 2:23pm On Mar 22, 2009
Una harsh o lol!!!! Anyways concrete, expatriate or no expatriate, please do not try to serve in Naija if you don't plan to work there, I feel like you just want to be able to say, I did my NYSC!!. Coming on here talking about you want to arrange for three days and what not is blatant disrespect to those who do not have that luxury, please let's be considerate of others. I had the opportunity to school outside the country, but by God once I am done, I am going to do my NYSC, will the conditions be different than what I am used to, yes, but my friends that served and are currently serving do not have two heads. I know people who finished from here(after spending close to 10 yrs abroad) and went home and served the whole 1 year and survived. I don't have any connections so I will probably be posted to wherever they want to post me. I will complain about it on somedays but I will finish it like every other Nigerian that has gone through the process. I understand you need advice on going for NYSC but you could have simply said:
"Hi guys, I am an expatriate(born in canada and yada yada) looking to participate in the NYSC program, I am not sure if I qualify but I was hoping you could tell me what documents I would need to bring to camp, if I infact qualify to serve" (SHIKAINA, that means finish grin).
No need for explanation on what charities you have donated to and what you have done "for' Nigeria(Lets be a bit modest). Let's not act like if it was a mandatory process in the US abi Canada, you would be able to bribe your way through it. If we are really trying to make a change in Nigeria, lets act like we would if it was a requirement in the US or Canada or wherever. Grit your teeth and go through the process or sit your behind in Canada.

As for the guy that decided to declare Mama Charlie as his own, sit there with Mama Charlie then(I don't know if she would declare you as hers lol lol lol), I know we are all entitled to freedom of speech but once again keep your opinions to yourself, if you are going to come on this board and insult the people who have to live through the standard of living that you look down on so much. Being a foreign born Nigerian is not the problem, the problem is people who want to act like the color of their passport makes them better than everyone else. I am sure you are on this website because Naija has affected your life in one way or the other, you were either raised there or spent memorable vacations there and you hold some sentiments associated with it. Try not to make yourself look so ignorant by coming on here and speaking in the manner that you did. (No hard feelings but you can't come and talk about my homeland and expect niceties in return).

Lets keep our heads up dears. Naija is not where it should be, but it is on its way there!!! God willing.

Romance / Re: Why Are You Still Single? by dai513(f): 11:21pm On Oct 28, 2007
@ Babycool, I could send you some money for what you said, folks need to remember that, esp femmes, we need to know that marriage as sweet as it sounds is work, albeit its beautiful its not for the weak at heart. Theres an "I want to get married bug floating around" and people are rushing because of "age" and to save face, Please make sure you are happy before you get hitched, its a life long commitment and when all the wedding bruhaha is over, none of the folks you are trying to please will be there with you.
, OOO and to answer the forum question, I will be single till my best friend and soulmate finds me(He might be around me now, he might have never met me) but I will not settle for less.
Romance / Re: Nigerian Girls In The U.S. Are Lonely by dai513(f): 11:09pm On Oct 28, 2007
Is it true that there are a lot of single Naija chics in Yankee, yes!! That's partially because our guys are half stepping, there are good guys no doubt, unfortunately the bad seem to outnumber the good:
You have the ones that are two-timing and are dating you and half of your city
The ones that have caught the "Yankee flu" and feel that because rappers are wearing goldchain, they should do too(lol), they are 25 and over trying to live like they are in their teens, got their priorities mixed up.
Then ofcourse we have our girls who walk around chasing peoples pockets, so there is fault on both ends but from what I have seen, our guys are not representing in Yankee at all,
But ladies, we have to remember that as there are good women out there so are there good men too.
Politics / Re: May 29th The D-day? Will It Be Successful? by dai513(f): 2:03am On May 28, 2007
Abeg na God go bless you Gift4all, May 29th WILL go well. There are enough people calling on God for a smooth transition. God's hand is over Naija and whoever is going to lead us, we should commit to His hand instead of complaining and predicting doom. Our futures(those home and abroad) are partly dependant on our new leader's actions, so let's keep praying for him.
Politics / Re: Yar'Adua: President In Waiting? by dai513(f): 1:51am On May 28, 2007
My people, my people. How will we sit down and say Naija will never get better. First off it will get better(all you naysayers will be put to shame). Now I agree with the person who asked what our young people are doing, those abroad and at home, let's take example from Hurricane Katrina. A whole US government responded so slowly and are still responding in a snail like manner, but its college kids doing fund raisers, different organisations and just normal people that are really making a difference and making sure that the people affected are taken care of, granted we are talking of a developed country here but my point is we the normal people are the ones that need to start doing something to make the country better, all we do is sit and bitch about the situation. You dont even have to be in the Naija to start doing something,
