So missionary journey finally complete (I already posted my POE story). Been wanting to post this but I kept postponing. So I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl in nov in Colorado. Hospital costs: 2day vaginal delivery stay: 2300 Doctor: 2190 (but I got refunded 230 for some reason, no complaints here!) For anesthetiser awon oloriburuku people. I didn’t take epidural o! During labour one of the nurses offered me Nitrus oxide to help with the pain and I said fine, I was even pretty out of it sef cos I can’t remember. Apparently the anestheologist came in for like 5mins and left. Only for me to get a bill from them like three weeks after of $2000!! If I took epidural at least I will know I gained something, nitrus oxide didn’t even do anything. I still felt all the pain. Anyways I fought well and btw guys most hospitals have patient care representatives they help with any issues you might have especially billing problems with external specialists. Try and find their details cos it was the babe that helped me cos she knew one of the doctors in the anestheologists’ office. I eventually paid $600 After plenty fight! Before delivery I got admitted for high bp monitoring, got charged $535 after plenty haggling. Tests: $500 ish Got social security no three weeks after, applied for expited passport ($165)in Philly and got it same day. Applied for visa on arrival and got a response two days later. Paid $280 for baby’s Ticket for virgin atlantic, also apparently it was cheaper for me to get it there than in Naija. I’m so thankful for this forum cos I got all the info I needed here. |
SuperDad:No, you don't need to buy have uk visa to buy the ticket with long stopovers. |
Lemme wade into this issue of information sharing and research. Yes a lot of people like being spoon fed not only on nairaland sef, I know someone that didn't want to take the pain to do this research and got her friend that had gone on a missionary journey to help her. That one did everything, all she needed to do was carry her things and cross PoE, only for her to get to Chicago and they sent her back due to some inconsistencies in her answers (she wasn't confident cos she didn't even know some of the things in her paper work, such carelessness ehn!) People should take the pain to research, I spent hours and lots of data and airtime on research cos there was no info about Colorado here (even if there was I would've still searched cos there's always a better deal somewhere), funny thing is when I started I was only getting hospitals that we're quoting $10k and above (on just hospital o!) even my cousins started discouraging me sef that we might never find until I finally got this one. In fact my cousin didn't believe me, she went there herself to confirm the cost and all which they did. All that research gave me so much confidence for PoE cos I knew I got all the information myself firsthand, no them say them say. Like people have said, since we're spending a lot of money on this journey we need to invest as much time into it to be sure we're getting right. There so many hospitals here that have affordable deals which I found out when I 'researched' and it wasn't even difficult. I'm so invested that the front desk lady at my doctor's office is already my padi cos I called and called her tire. Please let's take the pain and do this little work, it's your money. |
Pls did you need a transit visa, flying Virgin Atlantic...and If you didn't, how long was your stopover pls? Thanks superdad, as for virgin God is watching them! I didn't need a transit visa cos I have a valid uk visa although I didn't need it cos my layover was about three hours. But there were lots of people on my flight that had long layovers like 20hrs that were told in Naija when they were checking in that they'll be given transit visas and put in hotels when they get to Heathrow. Only for people to get there and those ones told them nope! The only thing they did was the ones that had valid uk visas were told to go out of the airport and sort themselves out, the ones that didn't were told to go stay at one lounge like that. I don't know how the lounge was tho but I don't think it could've been that comfortable for that long period, I really felt bad for them. There was even pregnant woman going to LA the following day, they told her the same thing. So that's my gist about virgin, don't fall for their bobo in Naija!
|
Congratulations on your POE. Seems JFK is always with ease. I wish you safe delivery. You may find it difficult to renew your visa after it expired. God bless you. Yeah I have that at the back of my mind. This is my third US visa tho but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. |
Hi guys! Like you say, in the spirit of giving back, just got into the USA and I had to to do this cos this journey won't have been possible without nairaland. Had an existing visa I got before I got pregnant, hadn't used it so I sent change of intent and got the generic reply. My aunts and cousins here researched and researched cos I'm going to Colorado. We finally found a very affordable deal (will post the details later) Don't want to post any details here till I go there first. So I flew virgin at 34wks 5dys, they accepted my fit to fly, flight was uneventful, landed at JFK by 10:15pm. I requested wheelchair and I'm glad I did cos the crowd was insane, finally got to PoE Cbp: hello what're you here for? Me: Holiday and to have my baby Cbp: oh you're having a baby? Me: yup I am Cbp: did you inform them when you were collecting the visa Me: no, cos I wasn't pregnant then but I sent them a mail ( he asked to see it and I gave him) Cbp: hope you're ready to pay all your bills and I said yup, he said how much do you have? Me: $7k Cbp: why colorado? Me: that's where I have family Cbp: how did you get the hospital? Me: myself and my aunts researched and I have my correspondence with the hospital ( bringing out my docs, he said he didn't need to see it) Cbp: ok please pay all your bills and keep your receipts, all the best with your baby. Me: thanks. I declared food but no one stopped me, carried my kaya and disappeared. Big thank you to everyone that contributes here, you guys help out a lot. I'll post the details of my bills or what it might be when I settle in and finalise plans. |
Hi guys I saw this and thought it might help someone out. The price seems reasonable!
|
Hello, this thread has helped me with this america journey so much, so big thank you to all the posters. Im a colorado bound mum in November and I've finally gotten affordable hospital but still waiting on doctor. Will update the house when I get full details to help others out. |

Philadelphia:HI, do you know whether one can ask for permission to miss a day in the training school? |
Hey guys, we had a thread for the test but it was closed due to that other online test. Have you guys heard anything from them since? I mean since the workforce test we did, cos this is taking too long o. I got congratulatory message from them like two weeks after the test and nothing again since then. Please let us know whether youve heard from them. Thanks |
