The Awolowo coup (previously called Ibo coup) also had Yoruba officers who were main actors like Maj. Ademoyega, Fola Oyewole, Ganiyu Adeleke etc. Facts that our Yoruba writers at Champion newspapers (now moribund), the Nation newspaper, and PM news always like to downplay..

Two things Babangida tried to do is, get ibos to praise him to high heavens and have him as a look-upon for political directives for 2027. Babangida has really said nothing. We know Abiola won the 1993 election and that he annulled it with the help of the ibos. The 1966 coup is an IBO COUP and Babangida knows that, but he wanted to get praises and die as ibos hero , so he gave them what they needed

If he wanted the praises of the Ibos, to what end?

Is he looking to contest presidency?

I thought we all agreed that the Yorubas are more important than the Ibos in Nigeria. Wouldn't it make more sense if he was seeking the praises of we Yorubas than the Ibos?
