Sports / Bruno Chigekwu's Over 173 Goals by damianchiemezie(m): 3:49pm On Feb 04 |
Okafor Bruno Chigekwu, fondly addressed as Cristiano Bruno, is one of the fastest rising talents in the game of football. This is no surprise for he is fast, swift, and intelligent, thereby making him a formidable force, a threat to the opponent, and an exceptional go-getter, whose quality in delivery is unmatched. In his quest to advance his football career, Bruno has made a name for himself and has played for many clubs. From Anointed Stars FC, Amateur 1, MFM FC Premier League Nigeria, Jossy United Football Club Nigeria National League and Giant Brillars FC Nigeria National League, Euro Sul FC Dubai and back to Jossy United Football Club, NNL. As a versatile player who could play center forward, left wing forward or offensive midfielder, Bruno netted over 100 goals for his Grass Root Team before moving on to play for amateur side, Anointed Stars, which is fourth division in Nigeria. In his first professional season, Bruno made a loud feat by scoring 11 goals, 4 assists in only about 35 games. Impressed, the then coach of MFM, Fidelis Ilechukwu, invited him to MFM in the summer of 2013. He didn’t fail to meet up to the expectations for he shined brilliantly in pre-season but unfortunately was later injured before the season started. However, because of his brilliant display during the pre-season, he was given a two and half year contract. He left the following season to the NNL side, first on loan to Jossy United Football Club in 2016 before making it a permanent deal in 2017, in which he played a total of 38 games and scored 16 times in both league and cup games. Assisting 9 times in the process. In 2019, Bruno left Euro Sul FC Dubai and later returned to Nigeria in 2021 to play for Giant Brillars before leaving for a club side in Ethiopia. Many years before, in 2009, Bruno had got a call from National U17 coach, Yemi Tella. He was part of the last 40-man standing but didn’t make it to the competition proper. That notwithstanding, in 2012, he was invited to the National U20 team but he left early due to some personal reasons. Bruno has proven himself a star, and is still looking forward to playing with greater teams as he is currently a free agent.
