Congrats!! You have been accepted into a course based program. Usually less intense and tasking than a thesis based program that demands tedious research experience and skills. Course based programs also qualify for some or same of the same funding as thesis based programs. Depends on the school. At some schools, no funding for course based programs.

Most likely the school of graduate studies( the School) will agree with the recommendation of your department. Graduate admissions is a two pronged process of the department making a recommendation and the higher power in the committee of the school of graduate studies accepting or declining the recommendation. Your admission then becomes official when the School makes its decision to agree with the academic unit’s recommendation. Then you have to send your official transcripts directly from your university bearing the official city postal appendage that your school is located in. Do not try and collect the transcript in a sealed envelope and mail it yourself like some people on this forum usually do. It likely would be rejected if you do that. Have your university mail the transcript themselves directly to the school in Canada. Then an unconditional letter of acceptance will go out and you may then apply for your visa to leave to Canada if you are successful. Exciting stuff. Wishing you the very best!!

From what I know, you've been accepted into a course based program as opposed to the research based program you applied for.

Course based programs usually don't have funding hence you'll most likely have to pay your fees yourself. At least for the period before you switch to research.

If I may ask, did your department require you to secure a supervisor first before applying for the research based program? If yes, did you secure any supervisor?
