Usage, pronunciation and spelling of a new word happen simultaneously.

It does. When you see a new word, three things come to mind:

Its usage

Pronunciation

And spelling

You have to make more efforts to know the spelling, you check your dictionary for it's usage and most times have to go back to the dictionary (two, three or even more times) to confirm that your spelling of the word you learnt a while back while reading is correct.
