MacCantStopMe: I am a new person.
If it were the old me, I would have said that you are an ignorant, fucktarded imbecilĕ, and that if you were any slower, you would be walking backwards. This is because you are talking rubbish about those actors' filmographies.
However, I am a new person in Christ the Lord. I shall not insult you but correct you with love.
Take Chris Evans for instance. Apart from being captain America, he has been in movies like gifted, knives out, snowpiercer and many more.
Dont just claim that all those actors have is marvel.
God bless you. It's similar to how Mr VintageNight ignorantly claimed that RDJ was a nobody prior to MCU. Yep, the same RDJ that has starred in many hollywood box office hits before Marvel came knocking. Some of the people that post brain dead opinions here ought to be tongue lashed every once in a while, because like Jon Snow, they know nothing. |

DriggityDre: I side with blingxx. Tom Hanks is a confirmed A-lister that won two Oscar's for his works. Like Will Smith, he is also regarded as one of the best acting talents of all time. Robert Downey, on the other hand, is someone's who used Iron Man as a major 'pusher' in his career. He was greeting kinda popular. But after his substance abuse and felony case, he became as irrelevant as Shia LeBouef. Iron Man is the only feasible thing Robert Downey can boast of. To prove my point, check out Dolittle (2019). It was an eye-sore.
Even with his Iron Man status, comparing Tom and Robert is an insult to an A-lister like Tom. Don't let your love for Marvel blind your criticism. RDJ is nowhere as talented and/or accomplished as Tom Hanks, but calling him irrelevant is disrespectful to his acting talent. Seems you have forgetten him in Tropical Thunder, where he convincingly played a black man. Or David Fincher's masterpiece, Zodiac, where he outshone everyone, bar Mark Ruffalo. Or Sherlock Holmes films. He even won a Golden Globe if I recall correctly. RDJ is one of the best acting talents around, don't insult the man. |

Kaycee7: Which is why I didn't name Gollum. Thorin was more relatable to me as he was dealing with human emotions and temptations which I have an idea of as a person, unlike Gollum that was twisted by a magical ring. You don't understand. What do Thorin and Gollum have in common? They are both mythical creatures, yes? Empathizing with Thorin and Gollum is no different from the way we empathize with cunning Tortoise from our African folklores. Superficial. To compare, GRRM's characters are historically inspired. The emotions they inspire in readers are real because their actions are drawn from history, rather than folktales. The unrelenting grit is embedded in realism. |

Kaycee7: Tolkien did the same to me with Thorin in The Hobbit. And there's a character in The Silmarilion who's looking like they'll fvck with my head at some point. Still a draw, IMO I was expecting you to say Gollum. He was by far the most complex creation of Tolkien. Gollum inspired somewhat superficial conflicting emotions in me. Superficial because, Tolkien's characters are mythologically inspired, and hence, are incapable of inspiring real emotions in readers. Can you sympathize or hate something you can't relate to? |

Dr7Manhattan: Nothing to argue about here I totally agree I prefer GRRM books too But that might change after I see the Lord of the ring series that Amazon are developing.
If it's better , I'm jumping ships right away GRRM's lazy ass won't complete the books anyway. This. It's the only chink in GRRM's armor. The guy's a lazy writer. In a period it will take him to complete a single book, Stephen King would complete 2. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 4:30pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Kaycee7: I'll concede gritty. But on complex storytelling, I'll admit a draw. GRRM also wins at characterization, character development and manipulating reader's emotions. Only GRRM has made me go from liking a character to absolutely despising them, and wishing them the worst, and after getting my wish, started feeling sorry for, and wishing them the best. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by DandeNummeruno: 3:28pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Dr7Manhattan: Not according to critics or most people really, but from my perspective I like a song of fire and ice better. But Tolkien literally inspired GRRM, he even admitted it himself. Lord of the rings is regarded as one of the greatest novels of all time, he is the master of fantasy storytelling, I agree your opinion if that's what it is, but don't ever disrespect Tolkien. Tolkien inspired loads of modern fantasy writers, but it doesn't give his literature a mantle of invincibility. GRRM books are better imho. |

Kaycee7: How? They both have great stories, characters and awesome world building but GRRM admitted that crafting languages wasn't his thing and that was one of the areas where Tolkien had him beat. Tokien was from a different generation. In his generation, fantasy writers pay more attention to wordplay and poetry. It made him a superior writer. But it terms of gritty, and complex storytelling, GRRM had Tolkein beat. |

With Ishilove I am not surprised. Always forming.
Cc abduleez1, alexistaiwo, etc al What discussion? I don't recall engaging in a Shakespearean English discourse, mister. What a boring discussion it must have been! I hated The Witch (2015) solely because of it's old English audio track. Boring shits are not my thing, bro. Be guided! |

abduleez1: "One of the most intriguing upcoming movies is an adaption of Shakespeare's Macbeth play, to be directed by Joel Coen, starring Denzel Washinton and Frances McDormand in the lead roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The project is currently on hold due to the global lockdown".— excerpt from Movieweb.
This is another spin on the Macbeth story. Hope this is better and thrilling than other iterations. The audio track of the last MacBeth film I saw, was in Old King James English. Every time they speak, it gives off a reciting-a-passage-from-KJV-bible vibe. Verily, 'twas a very boring experience. Seeing Joel Coen up there brings me joy. Joel and his brother are satire grandmasters. I've watched every movie they have made, and if there is one thing they are good at, it's making mockery of issues many would term serious, and/or sensitive. I'm also amped seeing Frances McDormand. She's wife to Joel Coen, and has collaborated with the Coen brothers multiple times in the past. I tell ya, she's pretty good at what she does. However, Denzel doesn't inspire similar optimism in me. I feel that he is no longer what he used to be. Part of his onscreen charisma and charm stem from his handsome face, but lately, his face is no longer debonair. Add to that, he isn't funny. I wonder how he will be used in the script...? Well, the Coens know what they are doing. They know best. |
