QuinQ:I wrote a thesis on this caste system in Igbo land during my University years and interviewd some traditional rulers and elders in many towns and villages in Enugu and Imo state and I can authoritatively tell you that Ohu and Osu are not the same. Ohu is a common slave owned by a person or a family and the offsprings automatically inherits it, while Osu is one owed by or betrothed to the gods of the land. Interestingly, most of these Osu being freeborns, willingly consecrated themselves to the gods so as to avoid punishment for a crime commited, like murder etc, thereby becoming immune to prosecution as no one dares touch what belongs to the gods. The person is now under a convenant with the god and is being protected by it. This is usually done via a blood covenant and the person in question and his/her offsprings becomes the property of the God he/she has sold their soul to forever. Hence the freeborns tag them as Osu. Ohu, which is a slave owned by a freeborn can be undone. It only takes the master to give his word and he/she becomes free. Reason this community can easily set them free to become equal and freeborns. It is commendable. The Osu which involves a blood convenant cannot be undone easily. Reason being that the ancestors who entered the convenant with the gods has all passed on and a blood convenant can only be broken by them and not the offsprings. If you marry one, automatically you become one. No two ways about it. They are often blessed with immense riches by the gods, but then they mostly die mysteriously and untimely. |
helinues:When Boko Haram started under the administration of Good luck Jonathan, churches were being bombed on the steadyband thousands of Christians were killed. Is your memory that dull? Now lately, Christians in Benue,Taraba and other states are being massacred on the steady and thousands have been unalived by these non state actors with the government doing little or nothing in checkmating these terrorists who attack helpless citizens in their communities at night and massacre them. The killing of Rebecca and many others for so called blasphemy which were endorsed by the leaders who should instead have condemned the acts and bring the perpetrators to book are also glaring. In as much as most of these killings may not have religious undertones, the truth remains that Christians are being killed because most of the targeted communities are majorly Christians. The truth is that the American government knows much more than me and you on this matter, based on the Intel's they have gathered. And we all will be shocked when they make these Intel's available to the public . Have you sat down to ask your self who the sponsors of these terror groups are? Why are they untouchable and why it seems the government has failed in stopping them? These are the questions every sane Nigeria should be asking |
Quelme:What he is cooking is going to be SWEET. ![]() |
This should serve as a wake up call to everyone. Nigerians are hungry. The cost of living is too high and something must be done urgently by the government to address the situation. |
Bestunclejoe:In as much as I want to agree with them on this, but then, not all Nigerian youths are lazy. There are millions of Nigerian youths ready and ever willing to engage in legitimate work. Go to our markets, you see Nigerian youths engaged in carrying loads for suppliers and for people who bought plenty goods. You can see them engaged in other legitimate works too. The bulk of the blame should fall on those elected in political offices, who has failed to create an enabling environment for job creation through thier actions and inactions. Those who loot our commonwealth and leaves the country more impoverished than they met it in office. Those who loot our commonwealth and use it in building companies, hospitals, refineries, and highrise buildings abroad, thereby creating zero jobs in Nigeria. Those who would rather destroy other people's legitimate businesses because of political differences, thereby destroying means of livelihood for the youths engaged in the businesses. The scenarios are endless. In all, the government should be fully blamed. Those engaged in fraud just a product of a government who have failed in their duties. Fraud will reduce drastically when jobs are made available to the youths. Mind you, I do not support fraud or have ever done being involved in one. Presently in a working country where there is job opportunities and zero crime in terms of theft and fraud. |
Freetech:ln Reno should be paid in his own coins. Your private life is no longer private the moment you start attacking and dishing out false narratives about others to the public. By so doing, you have opened doors for others to attack you either by agreeing or disagreeing with you on such attacks. Chinua Achebe said that he who brings home an ant infested firewood is simply inviting lizards to feast at his house. Reno should enjoy the feast with lizards. |
A wanted man or criminal can hide in one and move around undetected for years. This is not about religion. It is about security. Nigeria should tow this line too. |
ratcock:Was it not obviously obvious to you in the first place? Someone who speaks from the two sides of his mouth should never be trusted. Real men takes bold stands come rain, come shine |
Well all can tell. Nigerians are merely surviving by the special grace of God. Those who are earning salaries are complaining, business men/women are complaining, entrepreneurs and investors are complaining and the millionaires and billionaires are complaining. Every living thing in Nigeria are complaining of hunger, starvation and stagnation excerpt those in government and some of their hatchet men and cronies who are getting their fair share of the national cake. So tell me where where the IMF would have gotten a positive ranking from in terms of Nigeria. Nigeria and Nigerians has never had it so bad. |
MAN like Davido... OBO to the world. Man wey get doings! I love your doings! |
An inspiring story. She must be a phenomenal woman. A woman worth her salt for Mandela to choose her as a wife. As a woman, always get knowledge/wisdom and understanding. It will carry you far in life. It is not by slaying over the internet. |
Namaster:They did see and acknowledge the wrong they did to the Jews. That is responsibility and accountability right? Israel was defenceless then, but not again. They now have a Strong state to take on whom ever that will attempt that again. Never again is the rallying cry of the Israelis. I pity whoever has not learnt to leave the Israelis alone! You can try but you will surely learn the hard way. |
nedu666:Una no go kii persin for nairaland o. Reno or whatever he is called, deserves what is coming to him. He is having a taste of his own medicine. I never take the attention seeker serious anyways cause I know he is a fraud |
makavalley:They are only trying to pass on a message to those who are seeking to destroy them. The long arms of Israel will get you anywhere in the world and you would be made to pay for your sins. I would be proud to be an Israeli citizen first and maybe an American citizen second. Israel has the God given right to live, to protect itself and to defend itself. They don't and would never shy away in the least from doing just that. |
Deepspirituals:We can only correspond via mails. Using only laptops and internet over here. No phones. Only radio? But I will be on leave soon and then we can chat. Just DM me ok? |
Deepspirituals:Ok. DM me when you get back to Lagos. Will send someone to you. Looking forward to engaging you then. All the best. |

MartinCorridon:So it is safe then to say that Ibo ladies are way better than Yoruba ladies then. I married an Ibo lady too though am Yoruba. It is a known thing then. |
Ttalk:And what does that tell you? Does it mean his tribal ladies are inferior to the so called Ibo ladies or not? Reason he always choose them? Those of you ilks always quick to stoke tribal sentiments on this forum should all be deleted from this forum. Seun should just start doing that. I mean what is the correlation of this post to Ibo ladies? I will soon delete myself from this forum. |
[quote author=shortgun post=136930854]Exactly😂😂 I find it amusing when some people claim that no other tribes settle in the Southeast. Seriously, Social media has really exposed how ignorant some people can be. Take Enugu for example from Coal Camp to Ogui, Abakpa, Uwani, New Haven, Achara Layout and Emene, Yorubas are well established. Even at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, you’ll find plenty of Yoruba lecturers, traders and civil servants. I once visited Onitsha and was surprised at how many Yorubas I saw actively trading in spare parts, textiles and household goods. Many of my Yoruba brothers here on nairaland have not left the Southwest region for once in their lifetime. Those who did choose to act ignorant of the fact. I grew up at Nsukka where both parents were lecturers at that time and we have many other Yorubas both in the in University and in town engaging in different trades and businesses. Do not let the few paid agents on this forum with their dark agenda decieve you. |
Kudos to the joint operatives. We need to be more proactive rather than reactive in forestalling future kidnapping of citizens of the state. The security operatives need to up their game! |
Believe this you will believe anything. The world needs peace, but some folks and countries are hell bent on seeing the world in chaos. They should be stopped at all means. The devil we know is better than the Angel e do not know. Iran should be stopped from aquiring a nuke by all means necessary. |
SarkinYarki:This is like three now. I wander what is responsible for the all females death. Nigerian politics shaa! |
Interesting times ahead. Abuja of all cities? May God help us in this crazy times. Amen! |
malali:A big building like that should have a separate building for the inverter batteries away from the main building. If big generators can be assigned a different building away from the main building, then why not same for inverter batteries? The government should work on implementing this on all big buildings in Nigeria. Those batteries are prone to explosion and fiery fires. |
Dazzay:You are very wrong. That is a confirmed Nigerian MOPOL uniform. They operate in different uniforms at given days including the camouflage presently approved for them. Look at the badges on his shoulder and the ranks and insignia too. It is all that of Nigerian police,MOPOL division. |
Don27tiky:So aptly and clearly put. You just broke it down for the folks who don't understand what's up or chose to be indifferent. You can't be throwing stones at me from another person's house and the owner of the house where the stone is being thrown from, refuses to do something about it and keeps harbouring the stone thrower while pretending to mediate peace. I will simply invade your house and do away with the stone thrower myself. If the owner of the house stands in the way, then so be it. We will fight to finish. |
I can relate. He is a humble man who has the interest of the common man at heart. A detrabalised Nigerian and a good leader who under him as governor, led Kaduna state to new heights. |
There is no smoke without fire. No doubt the wannabe strong man is gone. In whatever you do in life, learn to live peacefully with everyone and do not let someone else confuse you into a fight bigger than you. Peace is golden. |
The country is not at war, but keep recording fatalities more than that of the countries at war. It very alarming and worrisome and the government have to do something and do it quick. |
