Which of the above is your "basics"? No administration (either military or democratic) in Nigeria has been able to thoroughly deliver the promises usually made during campaign when it comes to the basic area highlighted above. So, tell me, which basics are we going back to?

I see nothing different that GEJ wants to do again. Obasanjo was a Head of State under Military rule, he came back as a civilian president...what significant transformation did he make apart from securing the future for his children, grand children and his unborn children? Till now, Nigeria can't be proud of constant electricity supply for at least 18 hours per day...all over the nation. Bad road, corrupt civil servants in every state, harsh government policies that kill start-up businesses, substandard education and shameful economy are still what we are battling with in the country. The same thing happened in Buhari PMB' administration...so what exactly does GEJ want to do again?

Are there no more well meaning Nigerians that can blaze the trail?


I want to believe that majority of those pushing the idea of GEJ come back are just the selfish politicians who benefitted grossly from the corrupt/clueless leadership of GEJ and feel no other president can be so loose for them steal from the nation's treasury. No more, no less

I noticed we’re both based in the UK and left Nigeria around the same time. Recently, I’ve been reflecting critically on the rise in heinous crimes committed by Black individuals. It’s a topic that weighs heavily on me because, as we know, the actions of one Black person often impact the entire community. I’ve found myself increasingly apprehensive when I see Black people behaving rashly, as we already struggle with a negative reputation.

Living outside London, I’ve experienced and witnessed passive racism firsthand. For example, I’ve seen women cross the street at night out of fear, or noticed the subtle looks I get when walking with a white colleague. At first, these experiences felt strange, but over time, I’ve come to understand the underlying reasons. Black people are a minority in the UK, so any crime committed by a Black individual tends to be amplified. In a society where news consumption is high, the repeated portrayal of Black individuals as perpetrators of violent crimes—such as stabbings or gang-related activities—creates a damaging boomerang effect on how the entire community is perceived.

This has made me deeply concerned about starting a family and raising a balanced Black child in this environment. Cases like Axel Rudakubana and Valdo Calocane have been particularly troubling. Both committed horrific crimes that are almost beyond words—Axel killed three innocent children and could have taken more lives, while Valdo killed three random strangers in Nottingham. The ripple effects of such crimes on public perception of Black people will be devastating.

I’ve been trying to identify patterns or psychological factors that might explain their actions, hoping to learn how to be a better parent. Were they influenced by being first-generation immigrants? Were their parents too busy to be actively involved in their upbringing? Did their environment, schools, or peer groups play a role? Did they struggle with feelings of not belonging or trauma passed down from their parents? These questions keep circling in my mind.

Ultimately, I’m left wondering: How do you raise a confident, well-adjusted Black child in the UK—one who embraces their uniqueness, has strong self-esteem(Alanis Ogundipe comes to mind), and isn’t easily swayed or bullied? Would sending them to private schools or living in a better neighborhood make a difference? Who do I need to become to be a good Role model etc

Great development! We need more of this. More NGOs should focus on creating reformative programs for the inmates. They can also be empowered while they are in the prison. We can learn from Halden Prison in Norway. It is deemed the best prison in the world because it provides its inmates with beautiful sceneries surrounded by vast vegetation and natural light. Each convict receives private, luxurious living chambers. Some prisons also empower their inmates by teaching them how to make money legitimately while in prison. Some inmates learn vocational skills and produce while their products are sold to people outside the prison.

But on the other hand, if the dudes presented laptops were convicted on the basis of internet fraud, is this not another opportunity for them to start running scamming biz right in the prison yard? It is just my crazy thought though. Don't mind me
